Came here to grab breakfast with my buddy before flying and got fueled up on a solid and inexpensive breakfast. Being in our 30's, we were probably the youngest ones in there as it's a solid elderly clientele. Service was quick, kind, and delightful from one of the female employees (didn't catch her name). Wren's cafe is one of the old staples in the area that brings the ambiance and nostalgia of the Nut Tree era and is decorated tastefully inside as such. Best Ive had in a year... had the man size steak and eggs cooked to perfection, seasoned well and delicious, my son had an omelette and a half order of biscuits and gravy both very good selections. But time has not been kind to my old friend, Wren's Cafe. The place has not physically changed; same interior. Looking tired and worn as time usually will do that. The staff is polite and cautiously friendly. The food is not fancy schmazy, just classic, diner fare. My go to here is the breakfast. Simple and comforting. The place is rinky dinky small. The seating is mainly all booth with a few counter swivel stools. The restroom door opens directly into the dining room making the place seem even smaller, so try to avoid the seating in the back right corner near the restroom door. read more

I have driven down Interstate 80 thousands of times and passed by Wren's Cafe. I always wondered what it was but I never stopped in. Well, today I met my former student teacher there for breakfast. It is a very cute little diner. There are spots at the bar and a dozen or so tables. We sat down in a booth and were brought menus right away. It was my first time so I looked over the menu for a bit before deciding on the basic eggs and bacon plate with potatoes and sourdough. We spent some time catching up and our food came out pretty quickly. I noticed that my eggs looked pretty plain so I sprinkled on some salt and pepper - which I don't often do! The bacon was cooked to how I like it and the potatoes were crispy! We ended up chatting for almost 2 hours and not once were we given the stink eye about taking up a table. And they were constantly getting people coming in. We appreciated that a lot!! All in all, I would say the food is your basic diner fare. My friend said his family comes fairly often. His daughter loves the pancakes. And he usually likes to judge a place based on their Eggs Benedict, but Wren's Cafe does not serve them. The Wren Cage is outstandingly bad, so outstanding that I am compelled to put this to writing. I stopped during the week, around 11 on my way home and wa hungry for some eggs, something simple. This place has that "run down, vintage diner vibe" upon entering but then all of that initial impression quickly faded with lack of the good things that go along with that.....This place has very poor quality of food, cooked in so much grease that it was the dominating theme, everything flavorless. I had a breakfast sandwich with 3 ingredients, egg (hardly any cooked hard and tasteless, ham, so poor quality NO flavor, not recognizable as ham and they forgot the cheese....The bread was toasted enough, swimming in butter which fought for space with the grease on the plate. It was GROSS....the "home" potatoes were just overly fried, tasteless I guess potatoes that were cooked I old grease...Again, tasteless and gross....I only had water and my bill was $18.00 with a couple of dollar tip....Just awful! read more

We did a pick up order- ordered via doordash- to support local. We have driven by this cafe several times and never been. It's a small town cafe with limited seating and parking. One Saturday morning we decided to pick up and it was majorly busy and packed. There's not much of a waiting area inside (one bench that fits 2-3) and you end up standing around by the door or outside. Well, when we were alerted our food was ready, I walked in to a crowd and no signs of where to pick up. I went to the register, as there was a host/server ringing someone out. While standing behind waiting for that to finish, i was passed by several hosts/servers and not acknowledged. When it was done, i still wasn't acknowledged and so I said out loud and that I had a pick up. I was then told stand AWAY from register. Like where am I supposed to stand? There ain't no place, or no one to ask and no signs of where to go? Annoyed, I told her "sure, I'll stand right here" and took 2 steps back. She wrapped up my food, handed it to me and said thank you. I wasn't a fan of the service but the meal was alright when we got home. Although your posted hours indicate a 1:30 PM closing time, the staff decided to close the restaurant early at 1:15 PM. The door was still unlocked, and staff were inside, yet when I asked for an explanation, I was told they were closing simply because it was a slow period. I found this rude and disrespectful to customers. We arrived at 1:16 PM, and another car was pulling in at 1:20 PM. What were you thinking? We came here on Saturday morning for a "brunch" which was more like lunch. It wasn't busy at all and we sat right away. The staff were super attentive and helpful! they understood the assignment when it came to bringing our coffee. I got the French toast plate with chicken apple sausage and my man got the omelette with chicken apple sausage, spinach and cheese. Everything was really good. The potatoes with the omelette- DELICIOUS. My French toast was perfection and my eggs were cooked just right. We both agreed that we really liked it and couldn't wait to go back. Except this one is still here, still great, still feels the same, and is right here in Vacaville. This if by far the best chicken-fried steak and eggs for 100 miles. The omelets are excellent. I love to visit Wren's Cafe, especially between 6am and 7am on a Saturday morning that I am headed to Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma. It's an establishment that goes back a very long time. The people that make it run do a very good job at making the experience great for me. I recently had the Man's Size Breakfast Egg Sausage and Bacon and it lasted me till dinner. I really appreciate seeing the "Pulse of Vacaville" group of men that have been there every single time I have visited. I usually visit once in April and once in October. I love the view of the freeway from the booth I sit in on the far side of the restaurant. Simple and elegant breakfast is the best in Vacaville and in Solano County. The value of a dollar still holds true at Wrens. The business has been in place for over 30 years and I just made my first visit yesterday. I also made my second visit today! The food is good but the portions are unbelievable! With good service and hefty portions I had to make sure I reviewed this cafe. I enjoyed the chicken fried steak (comes highly recommended) and tried the ham steak today. Very good, but I will make my go to, the chicken fried steak. But if you're looking for a down to earth , mom& pops local place, with hearty food and simple selections, this is your spot. A lady answered the phone and she hung up on me when I was trying to ask her a question.
