I stopped into the pancake house assuming I would have a decent breakfast and dinning experience like the one i had in the past. Sad to say but every one working including the manager on duty looked and acted as if they didn't want to be there! I waited for a table for a long time, and people who came in after me were being seated before me. When my food finally arrived the pancakes were cold and my eggs were supposed to be over medium but they came over hard. I was very disappointed overall because this place use to be a perfect example of customer service standards and it seems like they don't care anymore. I have worked in food service for many years and I know what customer service means.The manager before that I remember was always smiling and made you feel like you were having breakfast at home. It's always a joy to spend brunch at the Original Pancake House! Such a fun and energetic staff! Most mornings, the manager with the hat, is there to great you with a big smile and a warm hello! My husband loves the huge omelets, with a side order of the meatiest, crispy bacon ever. My favorite is the Dutch baby, with the plentiful fresh fruit toppings! It takes awhile to bake, but definitely worth the wait! Tip: Be sure to use the NoWait app, especially on the weekends, to avoid the lines... best time save ever! read more

I've been going to the Original Pancake House in Champaign every since I was little and I always loved it. This new one is also amazing, even though the decor is way less kitschy. The fresh squeeze orange juice is actually fresh squeezed and really worth the money. The pancakes aren't huge but so good. I also recommend the hash browns and bacon. read more

So this place went above and beyond. Only Coke products are served here, and when the manager noticed one of the people in our group wasn't interested in Coke products or water he went out of his way to find a Mountain Dew (the person in our group only drinks Mountain Dew). This was a pleasant surprise. We were just passing through and needed some breakfast and had a really great experience (especially for a chain franchise!). The food was really good and the menu extensive. It was great that there were gluten and dairy free alternatives for my wife on many menu items, good options for kids, while also have the classic favorites I go for (I had a delicious eggs Benedict plate). While the food was great, by far the highlight of this place was the service. We were there on a busy Saturday morning, but we by no means felt any lack of service due to the place nearing capacity. Our amazing server ("Jessica A." we are guessing from the receipt), was extremely attentive and patient with our questions and requests. A few different staff members assisted us with different things during our visit and made us feel very well taken care of. I actually work in the service industry myself and would use the experience that we had at your location as an example of the level of quality any establishment in the industry could follow. Although I've reviewed this restaurant before, it's been quite some time and we've eaten here many times since the last review. The Original Pancake House continues to be our favorite breakfast spot. The food is excellent and the portions are huge so that my husband and I frequently share and still walk out full. The management is always circulating through the restaurant to say hello, thank you for coming in, and asking about the quality of your meal or if you need anything. I don't know of another restaurant in the area that makes you feel so welcome and appreciated and serve such great food. Do yourself a favor and try out something new on their menu.... it's all good! read more

I've always been a fan of pancakes, but for me, they were disappointing here. I ordered the Bacon Pancakes and as soon as they came out I was greeted with the smell of yeast. My daughter had an omelette with the customary side of 3 buttermilk pancakes and I could smell the yeast from them as well. Trying to get past the smell, I added some butter and warm syrup to 2 of the 6 pancakes and dug in. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the smell and weird aftertaste of the yeast. My daughter felt the same, but my wife didn't really notice when she tried a bite. Apparently, most people either don't notice this or it doesn't affect the taste the way it does with me and my daughter. I'm not going to lower their score because of this since I think it's more of an individual thing than the food itself. Everything else was great. The staff and management was attentive despite how busy they were and my daughter's omelette was fantastic. My wife had the famous Apple Pancake and wasn't disappointed. Our coffee mugs stayed relatively full (I can down coffee pretty quickly). I do wish they gave you a carafe of coffee for the table like some places do, but that's not a big issue. It's definitely pricey, as you're paying for the name, but it's still a place I'll come back to occasionally. I just won't be getting the pancakes. We avoided the 30 minute wait by using the No Wait app. We ended up only waiting 5 minutes. read more

Always my number 1 choice to go get breakfast at. The corned beef hash and potato pancakes are out of this world. The staff are very friendly and kind, especially the manager. Hector always comes to check on us and makes sure everything we want is provided. Paul is my favorite server there! But everyone else is also very friendly. Honestly the food is my favorite in town. Amazing pancakes, waffles, eggs, hash browns, and even coffee. The atmosphere is super nice and I really like the whole feel of the place. However, I rarely get to visit because of the cost of everything. I think it's a little too pricey for the food you're getting. If it was creme brûlée and espresso, sure but.. come on it's just pancakes and other breakfast foods that I can make in 5 minutes at home. So while I do love this place and love going here, I wish that the prices where lower. read more

There were two of us dining today, we had no wait (Thursday at 10:30) and got to sit outside on the patio on a beautiful day. There was some confusion on who was going to be our server, once that was settled our drink order was taken and about 10 minutes later our juice (fresh squeezed) and coffee arrived. Our waitress seemed very distracted during our ordering process and we didn't see her again until after our food was served. We had to ask for syrup, and since our waitress wasn't around we asked another employee. The food was actually the high point, very good and fresh tasting. When our waitress finally checked on us I asked for more coffee (it had been empty about 20 minutes) and she never returned with it. Or our check. After sitting for awhile we decided to just walk inside to ask for and pay our check. The cashier asked how our meal was and I told her the food was good but the service was not. We visited OPH twice and both times have been underwhelming. The best things are the fresh orange juice and the pancakes with fresh made butter. Downhill after that... Such a hype for such a poor restaurant. We waited about 15 minutes before our server even made it to the table. Once she did make it, the entire experience was just beyond awful. From our food being cold, to having to constantly ask for things multiple times before she remembered. Honestly, Denny's or iHOP have better service than the Original Pancake House.
