We went on a Sunday morning and there was a little bit of a wait but we expected that. The place is fresh and new, nice decor and typical OPH menu. I had 2 eggs over easy with Canadian bacon and buttermilk pancakes. Everything came out fresh and hot. Waitress was cheerful, polite and efficient. Opening day is upon us, and it looks like it was a busy one. I was told it would be a 45 minute wait, but it ended up being only about 25-30 minutes. We were seated at a booth, and our order was taken quickly. I felt like Rose in Titanic.. the silverware had never been used, it was the Pancake House of dreams. I will say though that the booth is pretty narrow! I sat beside my wife and we scooted the table away from us. I guess the layout designer must have been told that people with eating disorders are expected to frequent this place, and it was mistaken as skinny people disorders, not the kind fat Americans have. My tiny Asian wife decided to cram her gullet full with bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and a Dutch baby, while I explored the intricacies of the ham & cheese baked omelette, a side of bacon, and 3 buttermilk pancakes. Sidebar.. apparently everything in this joint comes with a side of pancakes.. you're gonna leave full af! Anyway, the menu does not include any sodas, but they got some cans in the back if ya ask nicely, or whisper the secret phrase "I shoehorned my butt into this tiny booth, please fetch me a carbonated beverage." Now I'm not a pancake fan by any means, it actually ranks lowest for me: 1) French toast. 2) waffles. 3) pancakes. 4) what are those, crepes? Get that the hell away from me! The pancakes here were pretty good, which is nice since "pancake" is in the name. The thick bacon was thick and cooked quite well.. firm, but able to bend and not break. My wife's bacon was a bit on the crispier side, so she kept trying to swipe mine, despite her being a crispy bacon person. The omelette was delicious and pretty large. Who the hell brings leftovers from breakfast? Well, for the first time in my life, this guy! I tried a bite of my wife's Dutch baby(which is a weird sentence to say), and it was decent, but I'm still kind of confused by it, so I'm gonna keep my guard up. My current favorite breakfast spot. I'm picky with breakfast and they deliver all around. They get pretty packed on weekends but you never feel like you wait too long- for a table or for your food. I appreciate them using the yelp waitlist function. They are the rare restaurant that actually has enough staff working which helps them turn tables quickly without patrons feeling rushed. Paying at the front registers helps with the efficiency too. The food is very good and portions are gigantic, especially considering the prices. My favorite is the cherry kijafa crepes. Be careful if you google what "kijafa" is or you might feel the need to go get some right now! Finally, extra bonus points for actually having fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. Overall, they have good quality food at reasonable prices. The pancakes are excellent, and the butter they provide with the pancakes is wonderful. Sometimes the consistency needs improvement. I tried Biscuits and Gravy there for the first time yesterday. Not surprisingly, the pancakes that came with it were great. I dug into my first biscuit. The gravy was good, but I was surprised at how hard and dry the biscuit was. It was very unappetizing, and I decided I would never order B&G here again. When I got to the second biscuit though, it was light, fluffy, and fresh, as it should be. It seems that the first biscuit was either outrageously over cooked or had been sitting under a warmer for many hours. The Original Pancake House in Champaign is way better! This one is just ok. There was a hair stuck to the bottom of my coffee cup by a sticky substance like syrup. The knife was very dirty. The sugar and salt were moist and stuck in the jars. You had to open the lid to get it out. The bowl of strawberries were from a frozen bag, soggy, and flavorless. The waitress was also below average. When our food arrived there was no butter or syrup for the pancakes so we waited 15 mins for the waitress to return to ask for that before we could start eating. Prices are higher than average but portions are strong and service is decent. It's a new place so it's still enjoying the inexplicable Bloomington-Normal insanity that accompanies new eatery openings. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain their strength after a year. First, I want all small businesses to succeed, hopefully, this review will encourage the needed workarounds. Very poor service took forever to get Coffee, the order was wrong, the server had a thumb in my food (undercooked hashbrowns and crepes). I had to ask another waitress for help because ours disappeared. $$ Pricey as well. Lastly having your waitress server 3 tables inside & 1 outside makes for more work for them and slows them down. The sausage was greasy and lifeless. The potatoes were, just fried potatoes, nothing special. One would think, with the name The Original Pancake House, they would have better pancakes, than say Denny's. However, I found them more closely related to those from IHOP. Boy, did they exceed my expectations! We were told of a 30 minute wait, and got a table in about 20. The staff was very friendly. Wait staff did an amazing job of checking on us and refilling coffee. Manager even came by to check on us. This was a busy Sunday morning no less! The décor was extremely nice. But the crème de la crème was the food!! Amazing what they give you at a reasonable price. My family and I were in town because of a basketball tournament so we just happened to stop at this pancake house. We came in and were excited to see how nice the restaurant looked. My daughter has a severe food allergy to gluten and the waitress informed us that they had gluten free pancakes, my daughter was ecstatic. We ordered our food and the food came out , for 3 of the 4 people in my party. I just happened to ask the food runner if the pancakes my daughter was given were gluten free. He told me no, so her food went back to the kitchen. Luckily I asked or she would have eaten food that could have made her very sick. My daughters remade pancakes came out but my husband's omelette still had not come out. 14 minutes after the rest of our food was delivered his omelette was finally brought out. We finished our food and waited another 12 minutes for the waitress to come back for boxes. While we were waiting another waitress in uniform sat down and started counting her tips right in front of our table. We were very excited to try the Pancake House and left very disappointed. First off I would say the food overall was decent, not great. I had bacon pancakes and my wife had an omelet. 6 big pancakes were more than I could eat and her omelet was huge. First issue was they brought my wife the wrong omelet, then our waitress never came back to check on us or to refill our coffee or water so we had to eat most of our food without anything to drink. We tried to get another persons attention but we gave up and just ate fast. When we were done eating I had to waive down the manager just to get our check and when we walked out our waitress was eating outside at a table. We expected much better service than what we got. The manager was apologetic and took the coffee off our bill which was a nice gesture but it doesn't excuse the behavior. We waited to visit until a slow morning and there were plenty of open tables so it wasn't a "too busy" issue and they had plenty of other staff that could have checked on us knowing our waitress was apparently on break. For the prices they charge we won't return if that's how they treat their customers. read more

It was a large omelette, so that was nice, but there was no cheese in it that I was charged extra for!
