Absolutely horrendous. We should have walked out when we seen the heaps of plates and crumbs on every table. We decided to grab two coffees "for here" anyway because it was hot outside and we didn't want to walk around with hot coffee ... Well, I don't have to worry about walking anywhere because I physically cannot walk after having scolding hot coffee spilled in my lap when my waitress handed me my coffee in a to-go cup with no top. I spent 10 minutes in the bathroom just sobbing and holding cold wash rags to my inner thighs. I have burns. It hurts to walk. It will heal and I'm not about to pull a "McDonald's lady" sue-happy moment, but maybe you should use some common sense when handing someone a scolding hot coffee. It doesn't make any sense. My husband was given a mug for his. We ordered together. I am angry. I kept getting angrier as I sat down on the absolutely horrendous, disgusting couch with worn down padding. As I'm staring at a table in front of me with an inch of dust on it that hasn't been cleaned in years. And then looking to my left where there is a trail of ants crawling to and from a plate that's been there for hours... All with a cup of ice between my thighs to stop the blistering. Shut. This. Coming in to the business was a bit disappointing. We called ahead and we were told there was no wait, but when we arrived 5 minutes later were told everyone just walked in and they were out of menus. The waitress did provide us menus after approximately 15 minutes (after I gave her a seriously hard, dirty look). After perusing the menu, I had to flag down the other waitress to try and order, and she refused claiming she was going to take other orders first "from the order they came in". After a few more minutes the order was taken by the first waitress. It took approximately 12 minutes for our orders to arrive. The order was accurate and the food was a mixed bag in terms of satisfaction. The double chocolate pancakes were very good (recommended). The bacon was very good (recommended). The sausage was ok (Jimmy Dean from the freezer). They missed the mark on the French Toast. Too dry, and clearly didn't soak in the egg bath long enough (do NOT recommend). The coffee and hot chocolate were to the Starbucks standard (ok/good). The decor was tea shop hipster, and the exposed brick walls have a pleasing vibe. The servers appeared to be VERY harassed and over worked and visibly uncomfortable and sweaty, but tried to be attentive and friendly. I guess the AC in the dining room, which seemed to be working very well, did not extend to the work area. Which is shameful since these ladies were hustling!! The kitchen staff should have AC if they don't. The prices seemed about average for the area, which is a bit high, but we can blame the "green new deal" for that bs (raised fuel costs and transportation taxes). Over all, I'm giving a modest score of 3. I'm willing to give them a 2nd chance as this could be a one off day. read more

I so enjoy meeting a friend for coffee and cinnamon toast over conversation at this unique cafe. It's only open for brunch type hrs. The famous DELICIOUS cinnamon loaves available for purchase are on random days and often out. The service is great . I've been here a few times over the years. It's frequented by both college students and people from the retirement home across the street. The exposed brick, high ceilings and large windows at this brunch spot make it different from other ones in the area. There's lots of space which is nice for big parties. But there's also a lot of light -- so don't go in hungover! Get the cinnamon swirl raisin bread with your meal. Try all of the crepes but pass on the frittata. read more

I do not have bad allergies, or asthma, but after spending a few minutes inside, I started to get a sinus headache. I highly suggest they try to dust, or maybe open some windows to get better air circulation. 2. and they didn't seem prepared to serve a group of my size (5 ppl). I've always known about their raisin bread (you can't grow up here and not run into it), but only recently did I actually enter the Tea Company for the first time to have brunch on my birthday. I was really impressed with the decor - it's really cozy and very cool. My friend thought it looked like the best cross between a trendy coffee shop and a favorite local diner. The service was great and the food was delicious! I think they need to keep the menu more updated (I initially wanted a lobster bisque that they no longer serve), but the butternut squash bisque suggested to me was wonderful. Since it's a tea company and all, I also ordered some chamomile tea and they gave me a teapot-full, which really hit the spot on a blizzard-y Oswego morning. If you want breakfast, lunch, or something in-between, there's something here for you. Even the classic eggs and toast some customers next to me ordered looked special. I was up for a college parents weekend and we decided to go to the Oswego Tea Company for Sunday Brunch It was very busy, much busier than a normal weekend, so all and all the wait was not horrible and we were seated and waited on within a reasonable time based on the high volume of customers in the place. The food was decent, I had eggs Benedict and family had the "Amazing raisin bread French toast" which was not that amazing. I am guessing that since it was so busy, the cook quickly dunked the bread into the egg wash and dropped it into a hot pan right away, leaving it very dry inside and the cooked egg coating on the outside. French toast should be a little bit wetter. Prices were not unreasonable, average for a decent place. Nice rustic look inside, with brick walls. My biggest issue with this place and what made me really disgusted was when I looked at my ketchup bottle. The Hienz ketchup bottle was very old and obviously re-used many times, filled up after it gets too empty. Many places will refill the bottles instead of buying new bottles because of the cost. I don't have a problem with that practice, but at least clean the damn bottle once in awhile. This black gook on the inside of the cap and around the edges takes months to form, and is extremely nasty and gross. After seeing my disgusting bottle I looked around and saw that all of the bottles at every table were the similar. After asking for a new bottle, the waitress came back with a better one, but it still had black on the inside of the cap, just not as bad. Ketchup and hot sauce should be refrigerated after opening, just in case anyone was not sure. If something as easy as a simple ketchup bottle is overlooked, and there is one in every table, how bad are things in the kitchen itself? I'm sure I'm not this first person to be grossed out by this and won't be the last, cut corners somewhere else and buy the plastic red Heinz ketchup bottles, they always look full and please clean the spout once in awhile read more

After reading the prior reviews and looking at their menu, I decided to give this place a try. During my visit, I had a cappuccino and eggs Benedict. Eggs Benedict along with the potato fries were very nice and I would definitely recommend it. The cappuccino, I found to be like all of the places in Oswego. I don't think anybody knows how to make a one. they simply give you a latte and call it a cappuccino. Regardless, the coffee was good. Based on my experience, will definitely go back. On a side note. I Have read many reviews of restaurants here in Oswego, and it appears that there is a trend in service being slow. I spoke with a few restaurant owners and it appears that the challenge has become a lack of servers. The job market is in dire need of servers but the available people is limited. For this reason, I will continue to focus on the food and give very little mention of the service. Remember, local restaurants aren't the Coporate machines grinding out meals, they are our local culinary artisans. read more

My mom and I went for late lunch about a week ago. It has very lovely decor and the aroma of fresh bread baking was intoxicating. It was empty so we had our choice of tables. We both ordered herbal iced tea (freshly brewed per order) and gyro salads. The food was pretty good; the iced tea was great. The negatives: Service was very slow and as we were the only table, it would have seemed easier to get the server's attention (she had dropped the bill right after our salads and we never saw her again; we waited over ten minutes at the table to pay and then another 2 at the counter before we left the bill on the counter; she said thank you and goodbye as we walked out. I checked the sign and it wasn't that we came in right before closing). Sadly, we also noticed however there were crumbs on our table and the other tables around us, potentially from an earlier breakfast and lunch crowds. Tables really should be thoroughly cleaned after every sitting. The bathroom was also in disorder and not clean. There were also lots of cobwebs and spider eggs at the top of the windows in the dining area. I realize that there is a lot of work that goes into maintaining a restaurant having been in the business over 12 years. I can assure you that the negatives here can easily be remedied (both the young girls that were working we're not busy cleaning or cooking, one kept leaving to go outside) as this place has great potential. read more

I used to look forward to visiting the Oswego Tea Company for a good cup of tea, coffee for my wife, and, of course, a loaf of the "famous" raisin bread. However, I am sadly looking for another go-to to satisfy my carb cravings. The quality of the raisin bread has been deteriorating over the last few visits, but I was willing to write off a couple of bad days. At this point, I'm quitting. The bread used to have a swirl of cinnamon yummy that went all around the slice. It was great to have the sweet flavor in every bite. I know that it's more work to roll out the dough more think, but OTC had apparently gotten lazy in their success. The "swirl" - if you can call it that - is thin around the edges and appears as a thick chunk in the middle of the loaf. Typically, it's a triangular shape with dry, powdery cinnamon mix on the middle. At the ends of the loaf, there is little cinnamon at all, and at least half the loaf is just bread. Don't get me wrong, the bread itself is of good quality, but it has stopped being the special treat it once was. I hope they make a come-back, but for now, I'm out. (see pic) read more

We waiting for a table for about 15 minutes which wasnt bad, but once we got to the table and ordered it took an hour for our food which wasnt anything special. My frittata came with mushrooms and tomatoes which I specifically asked not to be in it and had kraft single cheese "melted" on the top. The pancakes and kitchen sink were cold after waiting an hour. My friend ordered crepes which was 90% of their menu and after all the other food came out they let him know they ran out of crepes. Coffee was also cold. I do not recommend! read more

Went there with a few friends for breakfast on a on Thursday. There were five of us, and only four other people in the entire place, but the employee taking our breakfast order seemed completely overwhelmed and harried. It was like we could all feel her anxiety because as soon as she took our order and left, we all talked about it. I asked for a glass of water, and when she brought everybody their coffee, there was no water for me. Another 10 minutes went by and I finally had to ask for water a second time. One person at our table orderedordered the breakfast platter which came with sausage gravy, and she asked for no sausage gravy. You guessed it. It came smothered in sausage gravy. I asked for my toast to be well done and dark, and I received toast that didn't even seem to have been put through the toaster at all. We passed one slice around the table and everybody agreed it was not toasted. I did not ask for my toast to be redone because at that point I figured it wasn't worth it. I ordered something called the Gyro omelette which was supposed to have thinly sliced beef in it, and when I opened the omelette, there wasn't any beef at all. No meat whatsoever. I'm not sure what this particular employee will do if the place ever gets crowded but I guess we'll never find out because we're not going back. Cooking an egg over easy is an under appreciated art form and the cook at this place is expert. Delicate, thin whites drape out around slightly pinkish treasuries of yolk just waiting to drench the toast or run under the home fries, which are also as near to perfection as you'll ever see. This morning I ordered an egg white omelette with Swiss cheese and mushroom, and it, too, was done just right-it seemed criminal to hurt it with a fork. Spotty service and a stubborn country music habit used to keep my visits here intermittent (seriously, modern country music is like kryptonite to me), but they've shelved the Rodney Akins and made some good hires, so I'll happily crown them king of the breakfast hill in this town. read more

The cheddar was also yellow which I usually relate to poor quality cheese. My boyfriend eggs benedict was shaved ham (which was stated on the menu), not Canadian bacon, and the Hollandaise was nearly broken. Again, nothing special. They attempted to put fruit on the plate. It consisted of the thinnest quarter slice of orange possible and a half of a grape. Cinnamon raisin bread was outstanding! The coffee was not appetizing and bitter. Service: fair - when we arrived or waitress said we snuck in on her. There were only 2 other tables taken. She was attentive at first but as soon as one more table came in she started getting over whelmed and eventually stopped helping us. We gave up on the check and went to the counter to pay. Atmosphere: good - Building was cute and inside was unique. Cleanliness: fair - dining area was clean for the most part. 2 legs of our table was propped with napkins. Everything on the counter was covered in plastic wrap. The bathroom was disgusting! I won't go into details (yup, that bad) but it was not good at all. Not from Oswego.. but Oswego Tea Company has made me love this town! Starbucks coffee?! yes please! and it is more affordable than the actual starbuck shops. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My first time eating chicken and waffles (I know.. where have I been?) It was so delicious! I love the crispiness from my waffle, and also the chicken! This is a delicious place with an incredible tea selection and wonderful service (and wifi!) I went here with a large group on Saturday morning and could not have been more satisfied (and impressed) by the service of our waitress - whose name escapes me. She was attentive and pleasant and really did a great job dealing with such a large (and unexpected) party. As it was my first (of many) trips to the Oswego Tea Company, I had to get a tea! I had the Chocolate Strawberry Saffron, and it was fantastic and flavorful, and served in a gorgeous pot. To eat, I had a delicious belgian waffle, but am beating myself up for not getting the cinnamon raisin french toast or cheddar jalapeno bread that everyone else in my party was raving about.
