The Outpost is part of the Post Hotel, the entrance around to the right side when facing the front hotel entrance. It was very busy and very noisy when we stopped in for dinner. They have a bar and a few TVs. I ordered their Post Burger, which came with a huge pile of fries. The burger was fine, pretty standard, except there was a sweet red sauce, I assume the house burger sauce listed on the menu, that did make it different. I liked our server, even though he forgot I had asked for a salad instead of fries and he had to be reminded we wanted a to go box for my wife's pizza. We got to chat with him for a couple of minutes, nice guy. I think he is just someone who is easily distracted. read more

After a day of hiking in the Lake Louis area, we decided to stop by for a nice dinner. The staff were excellent, with great customer service despite being very busy during the dinner rush. This is the pub at the Post Hotel & Spa. We stopped in our first evening for a beer and a light dinner. It's warm & cozy and the wait staff is friendly and efficient. A really nice way to start our trip. Just beware - the portions are HUGE! (see photos below). They have a great choice of beer, as well as a full bar. Our server, Florence, was an absolute sweetheart. This cozy little underground spot has a charming, cabin-like vibe that makes you feel right at home. Our tour guide, Vincent,  raved about this place, saying the food was five star. So, we had to drop in and check it out; especially because it was in easy walking distance from our hostel.  When we entered the pub, we were impressed by the old world charming decoration. We were seated by a friendly server and he took our order quickly.  We ordered a house old fashioned and a glass of rose. Both were really easy to drink. Then we ordered some poutine. I must say that I was so glad we had our first poutine at the Outpost Pub, because it was sooo good! As the sizzling fries were topped by tender Elk with a savory gravy and fresh cheese curds. Damn it was delicious!!  We also ordered a chicken club sandwich, a burger and a grilled cheese with tomato soup. I think my favorite was the grilled cheese because the thick artisan bread was grilled to the perfection, while the oozing cheese made the dish super delicious.  Overall, I really liked the Outpost Pub and I would definitely return if I ever visit Banff again. read more

We spent a few nights in Lake Louise and were surprised there are not that many restaurant options. We were lucky enough to hear about this restaurant pub from the people at the front desk of our hotel (not the Post itself). It doesn't have a ton of tables and you may be told that you have a 20-30 minutes wait when you walk up to the host, but they didn't seem to actually take that long to seat us so, it's worth the wait. This is a more casual dining atmosphere with a bar and pub-style lounge area. I loved the Australian accents by most of the waitstaff. All the service was so friendly and helpful, just what I need after a long day of hiking and lakeside viewing. They do have a list of daily specials listed on the chalkboard, but if you don't come early enough, they may be sold out. Seems like they update their menu often, so don't necessarily rely on what other Yelpers have posted, but most everything we tried was delicious and well-designed by the chefs. Between the four of us in the family and after two times patronizing the place, we ate most of the items. The kids' burger is a hefty size. The steak was huge that even my teenage son couldn't finish the whole thing but it was delicious. I ordered the scallops and polenta which were also yummy. My husband had the chicken wings both nights because they were that good. Pizzas were also a good size for sharing. The crunchy chicken sandwich was also a winner. They don't take reservations, but are able to accommodate you quickly. If we are ever in the area again, this would be a place we would come back to. The food was solid -- really good fish and chips, fresh salad, and tasty mocktails. Unfortunately, the service left a bad impression. Our waitress never once checked in on our table, while she regularly stopped by the older, more senior-looking customers around us. Great place in Lake Louise. We were staying at another hotel, right down the road, and we took the shuttle to The Outpost (great choice). In terms of overall vibe, it feels upscale (maybe luxury) rustic with a pub feel and great food. The service was fast, friendly, and terrific. I ordered the beef stroganoff and I've gotta say it was delicious - and a bit different that I expected. After a long day of skiing, it's nice to roll into a great place and enjoy some great food! Try harder... Ordered a Shirley temple and they gave me some sort of orange juice drink. The steak frites looked nice but the fries i got were like, fries from Burger King or something, not frite. The steak was mediocre. Most importantly, it took 45 minutes to get our food and no one really knew what a steak knife was. I finally got one on the third request. Not your average Pub! Our second choice tonight for dinner, next time it'll be our first! Great ambiance sitting at the bar, we declined a table when offered. Yummy cocktails with an additional tasting of Jura scotch whiskey. For dinner she had the Quina Burger on fantastic sourdough french bread with salad while I suffered through a Ribeye steak with mashed potato and vegatables. To bring it all together we enjoyed a solid bottle of Malbec red win from Argentina we did not finish until we returned to our campsite. We ate here several times this week and I'm smitten. The service is fabulous and the food is varied and very good. I had the seafood chowder twice and really liked it. We had nice salads, ginger carrot soup, leg of lamb, and Coupe Danemark for dessert. The place was always busy the week of Christmas, so the waits to get in can be long and the food slow to arrive, but that's to be expected. We go to the Post evry other year. We alternate with Key West, (another fun spot). But as we are getting older we usually go to Canada. LOVE the country, love the drive in from Calgary. Turning into Pipestone we get the feeling we are home. To be honest I DO miss George and Andre BUT they got older too. BUT they sold to another "family" that also owns Emerald Lake Lodge and another Inn (Deer lodge?) in the Lake Louise area. But I digress. EVERYTIME I was there and I do mean every time the service and meals were great. The last time I had the pleasure of meeting Katie, one of the best and greatest servers. We eat at the main dining room, (kinda pricy, but worth it) and alternate with the pub. I must say I like the relaxed and pubish atmosphere better. Both atmosphere and food were, to me, ALWAYS 5 star. IF you venture down the stairs try the BEEF STROGONOFF! It is the same they serve in the (expensive) dining room. HAHA. They told me when I left the last time the owners were going to spruce it up a little. I DO hope they dont screw with a winning formula. We plan on returning next year if your prime minister does not completely ruin the charm and efficiency of Canada and its great people. Oh boy! What a flip of a coin! I had come here to the outpost following the recommendations of some of my colleagues. I was holding similar expectations as the Post dining room for which I had an amazing experience! However, this was not the case. DECOR: rustic, the wooden tables and warm cabin feel was great. A combination of couches and tables all tightly packed. I opted to sit at the bar for one person. Added plus they had bag hooks! However, the view of the kitchen was not a delightful one that I don't think clients should see- a cross between the school cafeteria and a soup kitchen. I could even see how the bread was dealt :/ Oh my. FOOD: Rating on five stars. I opted for the outpost hamburger with gruyere cheese and mushrooms for 19.50$ (*)- this burger is super sized, can't eat it whole, in halves or with utensils! I gave up frustrated and only ate scraps of my burger :( the patty was large and overly done; toppings included sliced tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, a thin pickle and CANNED mushrooms -so wrong! The burger comes with a side of fries but I opted for a Caesar salad that was terrible (*) too much dressing bathing the romaine lettuce, Parmesan and anchovies with cucumbers??? So confused. I skipped the salad after two bites. DRINKS : excellent whiskey and Scotch selection!! laphroaig quarter cask neat was so smooth for 11$ SERVICE/MANAGEMENT : Very friendly and young. I was talking to one of the waitresses who mentioned the post dining room and outpost had different owners and chefs even though the price range was comparable. 40$ for a largely unsatisfactory meal with an excellent whiskey (hence my second star). My fiancee and I tried the Outpost for the time today for dinner and overall enjoyed our experience. The pub is located adjacent to the post hotel and is on the basement level. It shares a parking lot with the post hotel but there seemed to be a lot of spots outside. Overall I loved the decor. It had a very quaint vibe and we enjoyed our time there. My fiancee ordered the outpost burger with cheddar and I had the special which was fish n chips. It was just what we wanted out of our pub food. We'd had a long day driving from Edmonton to lake Louise and that meal absolutely hit the spot. The fish had a delicious medium thick batter and the fish was nice and fresh. Our fries were delicious and not too salty. My fiancee had a hard time finishing his burger as the portions were quite impressive. The service was average but for the taste of the food, it was worth it. We will be back again to try more items from their menu! read more

Don't even think about coming here if you are a vegetarian or a pescatarian. I ordered the quinoa/portobello burger that was positively awful. The mushroom is the bun, and it was inedible. The side salad was "lettuce" that was all roots. I ended up dining on French Fries as the rest of the meal was inedible. They were kind enough to comp my meal and brought me a veggie quesadilla. The portion is huge, but the taste is just "meh". Perhaps I should have gone for the cheese pizza, but I won't be back to try it. If you eat meat there's plenty to choose from. Wow! We expected okay pub food and instead we got really hearty, excellent comfort food! Five stars. I had the bison chili special and my partner had the beef goulash and both were excellent. The bread that is served beforehand has a distinct European nod to it, with its sourdough. Even the Caesar salad had anchovies in them and really delicious bread crumbs. One of the best meals my family has had in a long time. We started with French onion soup which had so much flavor. My wife ordered the Hungarian Goulash. I had the special half chicken breast. My kids had a burger and grilled cheese. Each of the entrees was exceptional. If you get a chance try the lemonade, or better yet an Arnold Palmer (iced tea lemonade). In any case, I stayed at the Post Hotel and Spa and so this was their cheaper gastropub. It was very crowded and has a cool old-school ambience. Service was slow but decent. In terms of food, it's pretty standard. We got a shrimp salad, cream of mushroom soup, beef goulash, and a few others. No one was raving about the food. I'd say if you're in the area and are on a budget, this place is worth a try. It's still not cheap. It was about $25 a person - I'd say above average for gastropub. read more

We ventured here for something different from the ordinary while staying at the Chateau Lake Louise. It's a short drive down and the hotel shuttle offered to take our group there. As you enter it does have that mountain ski hill pub feel to it that is enjoyable about Lake Louise. rustic, wood, beer and TV's. Just what the doctor ordered when MNF was on! On recommendation of a colleague I had the cauliflower soup with red pepper plus the Schnitzel with Caesar salad. The menu is a bit more German- Eastern European themed. The Cauliflower soup was quite good with a creamy flavour but the slight sharpness of some pureed red pepper. The Caesar was decent and the schnitzel reminded me more of a Milanese chicken cutlet with lemon to squeeze on top. It was a 3/5. We washed it down with some Traditional Ale which is a nice Alberta touch! If you want a different option to the Post hotel dining rom this provides a decent selection. On a recommendation, "The best pub food in Lake Louise", I enjoyed a cozy, late night dinner after a long trip in from Los Angeles. The pub is located outside the red-roofed Post Hotel and overlooks the ice rink (during the winter). The spacious "living" room combines both dining tables and large, comfortable couches to lounge around and grab a bite to eat and a (half) liter of wine. My friend and I decided on the plush leather couch and ordered a yummy-licious mushroom and gruyere cheese burger with fries and a side salad. Everything was pretty tasty and there wasn't a crumb left. Other items included salads, pizzas, sandwiches as well as daily specials. Service is friendly. The setting is warm and inviting. Patrons are from all over the world. If you can't get a spot right away, put your name on the list and grab a drink at the bar. read more

Pub was a cool bar.  We all ordered the Burger and it was pretty good. However the 3 star rating is because of the tall male server. Server trying to be sophisticated only came off as a fool.  Very condescendingly asked us if we were staying at the hotel that we were eating at. We responded 'no' and told him we were staying at a lodge down the street-A much less expensive lodge.  As if he was a son of an aristocrat, he snarled as to where we were staying, and proceeded to say that he could still take our money.   An older lady was sitting to the table next to ours.  We could hear him kissing her ass.  We were embarrassed for him.  She must tip well, because it wasn't his first rodeo with that level of ass kissing. read more

We ate there on New Years at 6:30 PM. Had the specials. I had the prime rib and my wife had the salmon pasta. The prime rib was one of the worst I have ever had. Ordered medium. The outside was well done and the inside was rare. It was very tough and hard to cut. It was definitely not slow cooked over a long period of time like it should be. Would not recommend prime rib there. My wife's Salmon pasta was however very good. My fiancé and I ate here back to back nights bc we enjoyed it so much. Staff was super attentive, hard working and friendly. Food offerings were great, fine beer, liquor and wine selection. Admittedly I was not expecting much from this underground pub in the middle of nowhere, but this turned out to be one of our favorite meals. We dined at the Post Hotel Dining Room the evening before and actually enjoyed our meal here tons more which was 1/3 of the cost. The portions were generous and we especially enjoyed the Hungarian Beef Goulash. They also served the Coupe Danemark from the Post Hotel Dining Room menu (which is basically vanilla ice cream drowned in the most delicious homemade chocolate sauce). I was camping in the area and was looking for a cool pub to hang out in when it was pouring rain. There are not alot of options in Lake Louise but the Post Hotel looked like a swanky hotel and thier pub had a cool vibe. The place was packed! We ended up sitting at the bar and had a very nice bartender/waiter. The prices were kind of expensive but the hotel looked swanky so I thought this food was going to rock the house. It was ok. I paid $14 for a bowl of french onion soup. The broth didn't have a tonne of flavor in it and there was ALOT of cheese and not many onions. The bowl that in came in was super fancy though. My husband had the nachos and these were not your traditional natchos, they were on some weird multi-grain taco chips but they tasted good, just different. The only unfotunate part was that my husband asked for no meat on his nachos and they didn't inititally look like they came with meat and then he realised about 3/4 of the way through that there was a bit of the sausage hidden under the cheese. It was not a huge deal and there was really nothing that could be done at that point so we deicded not to mention it. He said he was full anyways. Great Service though....Not great draft beer options. They have a bit of variety in their bottle selection including alot of the big rock micro brews. read more

My group of 4 enjoyed dinner here after a day at the ski resort and ice skating at the Chateau. We specifically came to the pub to see the charm of The Post (my parents had stayed here years earlier) but at lower prices and in our outdoor clothing. The vibe is quite charming - many big leather couches and wing backed chairs - and the service is extraordinarily friendly. The food was fine, basic pub fare with nothing to write home about. We missed the open hours of the main restaurant for lunch, so we headed over to the Pub. The interior was dark, warm and cozy, with a nice fireplace and several comfortable seats in addition to the bar and several tables. I had a Caesar salad and a French onion soup that was quite flavorful but had way too many oily onions and a super fatty cheese on top. Hubby ate almost all of the home fries (which he normally doesn't do) that came with his burger, and we both regretted our choices later. We were hungry, though, and the Pub took good care of us. Unfortunately, we happened to be there when the Sharks were playing, and we had to watch them lose to the Blackhawks (that empty-net goal was especially painful) while we were hundreds of miles from home. That didn't affect the rating for the Pub, though! read more
