We chose this restaurant based on reviews online and recommendations from others at our hotel (Fairmont). We didn't see much of the hotel, but the restaurant was very cozy. We loved the live music and the romantic feel. They have an amazing wine list (more like a novel). Service: Perfect! Our waters were consistently filled, and timing was nice. We liked how we weren't rushed between courses. Food: We had Hamachi as an appetizer. I asked where it was sourced and was surprised that neither the waiter nor chef knew the answer. For main course, I had the rack of lamb, my favorite. My husband had the bison tenderloin. Both were good. Not great. Both dishes were drowned in sauce. The sauce was way too salty to cover the entire plate. The food should always be the star and the sauce as a complement. One quarter of the sauce along the side would improve both meals. Last, we had some version of Tiramisu. It was very dry. The waiter was kind and took it off our bill. Would we return? Yes. Simply magical! If Hallmark were to film a romcom about snow, wine, and food, they would do it in this hotel and restaurant. Maybe they have... The Post Hotel Dining Room is known for their sumptuous meals, upscale vibes, and massive wine cellar. I came here with my husband and the experience from start to finish was phenomenal. Our experience began at check-in by the large fireplace. After confirming reservations, we were shown to our seats where a staff member insisted on hang our coats for us. The setting is romantic and the dining room ceiling is decorated with lights and tree branches. There was even a single lit long candle on our table for ambience. Their wine menu is comprehensive! Their cellar holds over 22,000 bottles and has been awarded Wine Spectators Grand Award. In addition they have excellent seasonal cocktail menu. We started with a Holy Water cocktail followed by a bottle of Tattinger Brut Réserve champagne. The Holy Water cocktail is a mix of gin, elderflower, vermouth, and garnished with a kafir lime leaf. Very smooth and spirit forward. Food selection is something out of the movie Last Holiday. Reading the descriptions made us want to order everything. We did opt for the 4 course prix fixe menu. We ordered the crudo hamachi rose, pan seared scallops, miso black cod, and the mandarin tart for dessert. Every single dish was beautifully plated and delicious. The crudo was a great appetizer and shaped into little roses. The seared scallops was perfectly cooked and served with a caviar beurre blanc. The miso black cod was delicated and served with a ginger beurre blanc. Finally, the mandarin tart was nice blend of citrus and chocolate. I also ordered a Grand Marnier warmed up to go with dessert. Our meal concluded with a tour of the massive wine cellar. The sommelier walked us through the collection and showed us some rare bottles that available for purchase. Service, was en point! I had a room booked at the Post Hotel when we first decided to visit Lake Louise, but then decided to go big and grand and stay at the Fairmont instead. However, we came here for dinner one night to see what it was all about. The hotel itself couldn't have been more different from the Fairmont- it was cozy, quaint and quiet. While we loved our stay at the Fairmont I'd probably opt for some quiet time at The Post Hotel next time. I didn't realize when I booked the restaurant the 4 course prix fixe was the only dining option. Fortunately, we came hungry. At $175 (CAD) a person it was also a pricey prix fixe, but it happened to be one of the most delicious meals I've had in a long time. My husband and i decided to order different things for each course so we could share it all. Course 1 - carpaccio (light and delicious) vs caprese (also tasty and a very large portion) Course 2 - octopus and scallops. Both so flavorful (loved the sauces) and cooked to perfection Course 3 - lobster pasta (lobster part was small but this was very tasty) and miso cod (so good)1 Course 4 - lemon tart (didn't think I had room, but it light and SO good) and pistachio cake (I didn't try it but my husband was happy) During this 4 course meal the drinks were flowing, they had a talented guitarist for entertainment and the service was stellar. FOOD ALLERGY SAFETY FAILURE! We chose The Post Restaurant at the Post Hotel to celebrate my daughter's 35th birthday, expecting the exceptional service and attention to detail that a Relais & Châteaux property is known for. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing and, more importantly, potentially dangerous. My daughter has a severe, life-threatening anaphylactic allergy to nuts. I informed our server of this allergy at least five separate times throughout the evening. The allergy was repeatedly acknowledged and verified before every course, which initially gave us confidence that the restaurant was taking the matter seriously. To our absolute shock, my daughter's entrée was served with chestnuts. What made the situation even more alarming was that the server placed the dish in front of her and stated that it contained "no nuts." Had we not questioned the dish, the consequences could have been catastrophic. We were in Lake Louise, with the nearest hospital approximately 30 minutes away in Banff. While I carry an EpiPen, no family should have to wonder whether a birthday dinner could turn into a medical emergency because basic food safety protocols were not followed. To their credit, the manager apologized sincerely and removed all charges from our bill. However, this misses the larger issue. In a restaurant of this caliber and price point--where entrées exceed $55 and guests rightly expect the highest standards--there should be zero tolerance for errors involving known, life-threatening allergies. Food allergies are not preferences; they are medical conditions. When a restaurant repeatedly confirms an allergy and then serves the allergen anyway, it represents a serious breakdown in communication and safety procedures. We left without eating our meals, feeling shaken, disgusted, and profoundly disappointed. The apology was appreciated, but the experience fundamentally undermined our trust. I sincerely hope management reviews and strengthens its allergy protocols before another guest faces a similar situation with potentially far more serious consequences. read more

My son & I were staying at the Post Hotel, so decided to dine in their Dining Room one evening. The dining room is lovely and the service impeccable. I think this is more of a dining experience you would have for a date night or special occassion. We've eaten at several Michelin star restaurants, maybe we were in a more casual mood this trip. The food was good, but not super-impressive or memorable. As is typical with this level of dining, the portions are relatively small & costly. It is nice to know that when a fine dining restaurant screws up, they make it right. Let's talk about the food, as expected, delicious. I had rack of lamb and my daughter had the Sea Bass--sweet, but not overly so. Their Post Hotel Butterleaf Lettuce Plate has a fantastic dressing and my daughter loved the special type of tomatoes they used. It is not large enough for a meal, but was listed as so on their vegetarian menu. The portions for all meals are not large and originally I was going to have the lobster, but the server was nice enough to set my expectations that it was a small portion, that is why I got the lamb. When the kitchen placing our order in the bottom of the pile and others got served ahead of us, the manager comp our drinks and gave us the Butterleaf salad to hold us over. This was a perfect splurge dinner date. The interior was much more than I expected from a hotel restaurant: cozy, romantic, and with a few tables with fine views of the mountain backdrop. We came late because I had to drop my dog off at our hotel, but they were gracious to honor our request to be seated by a window. The host noted that there was a rambunctious group of women and set us away from them to be able to enjoy our intimate dinner. The prix fixe menu was definitely pricier than my boyfriend is used to spending on a dinner, but each dish was well crafted and sourced local or specialty ingredients. Even something as simple as the butter was dreamy. We chose different proteins to be able to taste more, and I have to admit his meat dishes were better than my seafood picks. They have an extensive wine list and friendly sommelier to help you pick a bottle within your price range without making you feel bad about going for the affordable options. The pacing of dishes were great for us to linger, and our server was affable without interrupting anytime we were in conversation. Perhaps one of the best kept secrets of Lake Louise. We came to the Post Dining Room a few years ago after looking up food spots and have come every time we've visited Banff since then. The hotel blends in with its surroundings in such a way that even though you can in your surroundings without much distraction, it makes the phenomenal food here almost seem out of place for the middle of a national park as you'd expect to see this sort of seasonal menu offered in a city rather than the forest. Highly recommend the four course dining option. Plenty of options to choose from such that you could eat here a few times and still get a completely different experience each time. The restaurant is very cozy but remains classy - we had told some friends about it as a honeymoon date night and apparently they came to dine in multiple times! My family stayed at The Post Hotel back in September. We had purchased a dining package with meal vouchers for the hotel, but were not familiar with the restaurant itself. We were surprised to find out that the vouchers were for their fine dining (there are a few dining options onsite). With a 3 year old, we were hesitant to see how our dinner would go. It ended up being a wonderful experience. The server (Peter), hostess, and maitre d' were all so welcoming and attentive to our needs (a family with a young child and my own dietary restrictions). In addition to the friendly nature of the staff, the food was AMAZING. The chef was extremly accommodating to my dietary restrictions and I didn't feel like I was missing out at all due to his talent. To complete our night, we were so thankful that as our daughter was ready for the meal to be over prior to our final course of dessert, Peter proactively offered to have the desserts sent up to our room in the most considerate manner. The ambiance is not my preference (feels a bit stuffy) but all other factors completely made up for that. read more

The Post Hotel didn't inform the public on their website that there is no A/C the alternative is a swamp cooler or a fan. The 2 window were 18" x 6" not enough for airflow and ventilation. Also they don't mention there is a train that comes past all day & night that shakes the room and is extremely loud. Their Restaurant is way over priced at $350 Canadian dollars. Rooms were too small to set out all of our luggage. Lastly there are only 2 less than adequate Restraunts within a reasonable walking distance. I'll Never Ever visit again. The service and ambience were impeccable. However, my dinner was not in the same league. I ordered the ala carte $65 "lobster tail". What I received were two tiny pieces of lobster, neither of which was from the tail. The first was a piece from the claw that really isn't lobster meat-sort of a reddish appendage of the claw. The second piece also wasn't part of the tail but a small miscellaneous piece of lobster maybe also from the claw. Both pieces were so undercooked that I couldn't chew them into edible pieces. I chewed and chewed and chewed and eventually swallowed them whole. As you can imagine I was very disappointed in this meal. The Post Hotel restaurant had been very highly recommended. Not only did I not get a lobster tail for my $65 but I got a couple small pieces of poorly cooked seafood that barely qualified as lobster. read more

They have a multi-course, prix fixe menu. The food was very good but, at CAD$120+, it wasn't the best meal I've had in this price range. The main entrée had a massive potato pancake, which was very out of character for the norm with this type of meal (it was very "normal" with a slightly odd taste and was greatly oversized--normally, with restaurants of this genre, I would expect a smaller portion but upscale flavoring and presentation). This was also one of the most pretentious restaurants I've been to in quite some time. While the service was certainly quite good, it just seemed a bit "stuffy" (particularly for s ski resort town). An upscale vibe yet not a fine dining scene, we went in with athletic clothings and were welcome (we asked beforehand). * * * FOOD * * * Gnocchi with Short Rib: A Perfect red wine sauce, the gnocchi had a rich taste, the short rib was super tender, it also served with tomato which added a freshness to it. Beef Tartare: A Very tasty, everything was balanced, the amount of scallion and the richness of the beef, tried it with the amazing bread served alongside.... so good. Riesling Soup: A I had to get this when I saw it on the menu. Is it a soup made of riesling wine? Nope, it used riesling grapes and as a riesling lover this was amazing to me - it was just like drinking riesling wine minus the alcohol, warm and creamy. Caribou: A It was perfectly medium rare per my request, very gamey as expected (and my favorite) the meat was extremely tender. The sauce was sweet and sort of balance out the gaminess, and the mushroom served on the side added some saltiness to the dish. The whole experience of this dish was very complex. Okay so in our travel planning and research we read all about the Post Hotel Dining Room and the accolades that Conde Nast Traveler bestowed upon in its review, stating, "the Dining Room has an excellent wine list and serves fresh market cuisine that's out of this world." Not that one needs any further urging, but we originally weren't planning on dining at the Post Hotel because we weren't planning any fancy dinners after such long hiking days. Due to some issues finding a table elsewhere, we sat down for a 9pm dinner at the Post Hotel. Mind you, the lighting outside made us think it was 5pm, so it didn't seem too late. First of all, let me say, our meal was out of this world, indeed. The service was top notch, the staff was super friendly, the food was delicious, and the plating was beautiful as well. The restaurant had an intimate vibe, with white table cloths, flowers on the table, and a wine lists thicker than an encyclopedia. After each of us ordered our respective glasses of wine, we took a look at the menu. Despite that we wanted to devour everything, we settled on one appetizer to share - the Sea Scallops. (Sautéed Deep Sea Scallops with Chef's Asian Sauce and Chinese Broccoli). At $28.50 for an appetizer, I was a bit skeptical, however these bad boys were phenomenal. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, the asian sauce we slightly sweet, without being too overpowering, and the broccoli was a great bitter compliment to the sweetness of the sea scallops. And a plus, they were HUGE scallops! For dinner, he ordered the Emincé of Beef Tenderloin "Stroganoff" with Home-made Egg Tagliatelle ($46.50). What - we were hungry hikers, okay?! I tasted it, and it was really yummy, but didn't hold a candle to my dish! He disagrees with me, he thought his dish was better than mine... agree to disagree! I ordered the Veal Tenderloin - when in Canada, right? The dish was Medallions of Milk-Fed Québec Veal Tenderloin in a Creamy Morel Sauce with Home-made Spinach Fettuccini ($54.00). That morel mushroom sauce rocked my socks. The veal was unbelievably tender and delicious, cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The spinach fettuccini was expertly made - a fantastic dish. Oh dessert. Although we were sufficiently full, we decided to take a peek at the dessert menu - a big mistake (or was it...)! We were drooling before even fully through the menu - and decided to share a dark chocolate concoction. We split the Dark Chocolate Blackberry Mousse with Blackberry Coconut Sorbet and Fresh Blackberries ($18.75). This was bananas, or coconuts I guess I should say. It was beautifully presented. The blackberries were unbelievably sweet and juicy, the mouse was divine, and the dark chocolate was heaven. Too bad we didn't skip dinner and just order 4 desserts. **Heads up fellow Lake Louise travelers, if you're traveling in the summer time, and planning on eating at the Fairmont for a fun meal with a view over Lake Louise, be wary. We were told on a Saturday night we couldn't dine at any of the 7 restaurants on the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise property because they were too busy to serve anyone but their hotel guests. AMAZING! This restaurant definitely deserves the #1 ranking in town. The freshly baked ciabatta rolls were to die for! The wine selection was extensive and there is a wine for the most discernible palate. We started with the salmon and scallop carpaccio which was fresh, light and excellent flavor. We also had the Wagyu short rib and gnocchi appetizer which was flavorful, tender and highly recommended. For entrees, we had the BC black cod with miso and it was juicy, fresh and a good size portion. My friend had the caribou medium rare and it was delicious. We ended with the special Blueberry crumble with ice cream and it was yummy. This was our best meal in Banff and Lake Louise. I will definitely return and recommend for my friends to visit. This was the highlight of my dining experience in Lake Louise, where beauty and elegance meet -a truly fine dining experience. The main dining hall is gently lit by white lights and freshly scented flowers. I forgot to mention there was a fondue room! The menu is simply extravagant -with clean choices and a tasting menu of 6-7 courses for 120$. If it wasn't so late in the evening and if they weren't missing 2 items from the tasting menu-I would've ordered it. Instead I settled for 2 appetizers: the terrine du jour that was a combination of elk/ bison as well as other meats in slices enrobing a paté served with biscuits/toasted bread and a mixed green salad that was lightly dressed; my second appetizer was homemade cheese tortellini on a bed of chopped mushrooms in a cream sauce-I really enjoyed this as a pasta dish as it was not too heavy. I didn't have any wine or dessert (I highly recommend the dessert menu - so beautifully presented-but I had no room for it!). Both dishes together came out go 50$ without tip. Service was great. We were in Banff on vacation and researched thoroughly for the best foodie restaurants. The Dining Room at the The Post Hotel by far won our vote for the best meal we had in Banff. The staff were effusively warm and friendly. Guests that were there to celebrate an occasion had a candle lit at their table (they're clearly visited frequently by guests celebrating milestone events!). We too had a candle at our table. Our server, was not only friendly, she was very knowledgeable about wines and their vineyards (akin to a sommelier, just without the degree), and the local farms where their produce were sourced from. The restaurant has curated a collection of over 25,000 bottles of wine in their cellar with over 10,000 unique labels! The wine "bible" was very comprehensive! That said, we love Pinot Noir from the Willamette valley and our astute server recommended a bottle from the Joie Farm in the Okanagan Valley, BC (apparently the terroir is most similar to the Willamette Valley). She was spot on with her recommendation! Absolutely delicious wine! For starters we got Balik Salmon & white port marinated red snapper. The salmon is considered by afficionados as the the best smoked salmon in the world. The red snapper was very fresh and it was served as sashimi, which was a wonderful vehicle for the accompanying delicate orange coulis and complexities of the aged balsamic jelly. Next we got a hot appetizer of home-made cheese agnolotti, it was served with a ragout of heirloom tomatoes. The agnolotti dumpling was amply filled with 3 perfectly balanced cheeses. Absolutely satisfying! For entrees, we got the whole roasted Northwest Territories Caribou Striploin. It was plated with sautéed kohlrabi and German "Schupfnoodles" (dumplings shaped like finngerling potatoes, tastes like gnocchi but softer!). This was my first time tasting caribou, it had a very clean taste, not gamey, but milder than bison. It was cooked perfectly and complemented well by the Saskatoon Berry cream sauce. We also got the sautéed Atlantic Lobster, with coconut sauce infused with red thai curry. It was nestled on a bed of tossed zucchini strings and home-made tagliolini. Now, this noodle was phenomenal. I've had noodle dishes all over Asia, the Americas and Europe. This was by far the most memorable and remarkable noodle I've ever had! The zucchini strings were made to the same thickness as the tagliolini. This made the zucchini indistinguishable from the al dente tagliolini. The zucchini string added just a tad more texture and significantly elevated the mouthfeel of every bite! Together they were accentuated by the red thai curry infused coconut sauce. It's almost blasphemous to say, but the star of the dish was the tagliolini and zucchini string combo, with a "side" of exquisitely fresh lobster! (see my pictures!) We also were visited by Mr. Schwarz himself, co-owner of the hotel. He stopped by each table to welcome and congratulate us. He was very attentive and even offered to close the ventilation windows for us when it got chilly. It was a terrific experience overall, top marks staff, an amazing find of the perfect wine, and to top it off the food was impeccably remarkable. Hidden in the cozy and quaint Post Inn, the dining room at Post Inn sets a whole new bar for fine dining. First off, they have an extremely impressive wine cellar with an extensive collection of over 2,500 bottles. Cue the daydream... We started off with the New Zealand Scampi and Risotto off of the Hot Appetizer menu. The seafood and overall flavors were so clean and fresh, it was the perfect start to the meal. While Risotto would tend to be on the heavier side, this was somehow a very light and enjoyable Appetizer. A perfect portion for two to share. As for our mains, we were both in desperate need of a comforting meal after spending the weekend in Banff and not having one decent meal. So after struggling over the various options on the menu, we both landed on the ultra-comfort food: Stroganoff. Our waiter was sure to let us know the Stroganoff was traditional with Hungarian paprika and a touch of sour cream. The dish did not disappoint in any way, the house made Tagliatelle was absolutely perfect and the Stroganoff was nothing short of terrific. After all this, you'd think there would be little room for desert. No way, that's a near sin in my book. Their dessert menu was equally as difficult to ponder over and decide. Once the struggle was over we opted for the Apple Crumble with Salted Caramel ice cream (house made, by the way). It was the perfect end to the meal and comes out piping hot. While the Dining Room at the Post Inn is definitely on the pricey side, it is absolutely worth every penny. We will certainly be returning anytime we find ourselves in the Banff/Lake Louise area. The staff is top notch and we really enjoyed our waiter. Every little detail is thought of, from the fresh and warm dinner rolls with rich butter, to the refined flavors of each dish from start to finish. If you have ONE dinner to splurge and "treat yo self" then there is no better place to indulge. The staff is attentive and irreverent. They make you feel very comfortable. The wine list is spectacular. We had an Italian wine from a vineyard we toured in Italy. What a find! The starters were very good. We had the cream of chardonnay, the lobster bisque and the gnocchi with waygu beef. The veal medallions with handmade spinach gnocchi was lovely. I learned about a new root vegetable from the celery family called salisfy - very good! My husband loved his caribou and said the reduction was divine. We even got to take a tour of the wine cellar which was a real treat. Over 2,600 vineyards and over 27,000 bottles. An entire room dedicated to Italian wines and a wall full of Bordeaux. Nice lunch in pleasant, flowered surroundings on an upstairs patio. Food was excellent.

Great place to dine while in LL. With such an extensive wine selection, we asked the sommelier for a recommendation and we were very pleased with the wine he recommended. My husband had the tuna tartare as an appetizer and it was delicious although it was swimming in sauce. For his entree he had the lobster and it was tough and he was very disappointed with it. Service was rushed but attentive. Our waiter took note of the over cooked lobster and took it off of our bill. I started with the butter leaf salad and for my entree I had the veal with morels. Both were very good. For dessert we shared their homemade vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and a chocolate chip cookie. read more

Came here with my wife and stayed for a few days on my way through to Banff. I was not sure how it was going to all turn out, however I think this little boutique is one of my favorite hotels now. The room we had was a loft and the living room had a full fireplace and living room setup. We were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit and a very clean room. At night we had a fire in the wood burning fireplace. The hotel is very close to town, but not too close so you really have a quiet and peaceful experience. The staff and service at this hotel is top notch. There was always a service person close by ready to assist in any way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a five star experience. It was one of the most memorable experiences on our two-week trip and really made our vacation. read more

Hmmm....I also didn't quite get the hype for this place after trying it out. The food was just OK but didn't quite meet the bar especially coming in with the expectation that this is supposed to be the best restaurant in the area (or even in the whole country...?) The staff was super friendly though and GREAT service. Also, they have a good selection of wines. I liked the dining experience, but just not so much on the food itself which felt mediocre. read more

The Post hotel is part of the Relaix & Chateaux group. We didn't stay here but dined there and everything was delicious, great local inspired food. The service was top notch, it was a nice touch to bring us on a wine cellar tour. They are well know for their mothers day brunch. I liked that they offered a free ride back to the Fairmount. read more

My dad, sister and I were staying at The Post Hotel as part of a week long biking and hiking trip. I had heard the The Post has the reputation as being one of the best hotel dining experiences on the North American continent, but I could not predict the level of service and cuisine that I would receive there. From the moment you sit down in The Post's dining room, every one of your needs is taken care of. The waiters even put the napkin on your lap. The atmosphere in the dining room is very nice. The Post has a warm lodge feel, and for dinner in the dining room they dim the lights, making it pretty romantic. I am not going to talk about all of the food I ordered at The Post, because there are simply too many dishes to recount, but I will take you through some of the highlights. To begin every meal, The Post serves rolls fresh out of the oven with a circular pad of butter on a slate tile. I am a sucker for bread and this is amazing bread (dense and chewy and steaming hot). The most exceptional dish I consumed in The Post dining room was their black cod entree served with a ginger miso cream sauce and Chinese broccoli. The cod had an incredible texture. It was lightly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce that it was served with was very buttery (all of their sauces were), and I love butter more than almost anything else, so I enjoyed it thoroughly. The last dish I want to mention is the vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. This dessert sounds so simple, but its presentation and execution at The Post was perfect. The ice cream was served in a tall glass, and there was a ring of whipped cream around the rim, and a cookie in the middle of the ice cream. The server then brought over a pitcher of chocolate fudge sauce and poured it, from about a foot above the glass, into the middle of the ice cream. That fudge sauce was out of control delicious. I literally licked it out of the pitcher. Anyways, I loved eating here!! It was a dining experience to rival all others. read more

Just doesn't get much better. Wow, what a night. I am not a foodie, per se, but I sure love a dining experience like this one. Worth every penny (and it's a lot of pennies to be sure). This is how you imagine restaurants used to be before flip floppers and baseball cap diners destroyed fine dining. read more

Nestled in an old-school lodge that used to be a post office, this is one of the best fine dining experiences in Lake Louise. The piano bar is an inviting place to have a cocktail but FYI they have an insanely large collection of wines, which they are famous for. On to the food - what I found remarkably impressive was their ability to offer so many menu choices all made with the highest of culinary techniques. That's rarer than the meat I ate. Michelin-worthy? Perhaps not, but I had a killer chateaubriand with only the finest 'berta Beef. The main courses are amply portioned too, fish included. However, I was a little disappointed with the tuna tartare appetizer as it was more avocado than tuna and they pitched the whole thing upside down on top of a bowl of hoisin mixed with soy as if they were hiding something. Nevertheless, the lobster risotto was quite tasty (even though the lobster meat was a bit tough to cut through). On a bright note, they do have a vegetarian menu with thoughtful dishes that were quite enticing, which is impressive given that you are here to eat the meats. As for service, it was personable, but scant so best to make friends with your waiter so you can get their attention. Wish I tried the desserts but I was too full. Maybe next time. read more
