Only went at night to the bar so can't comment on the food but the pizza making station looked reallly good. Atmosphere- Very cool, very hidden- inside a hotel, but pretty big once you find the place. Dim lit. Eclectic style, I really enjoyed the style because it was unlike other places I've seen. Definitely keeps up with the speakeasy vibe. I did not particular love the vibe that night I went, it's very hipstery which is totally fine but I wore a dress that night and was being stared at by multiple people around the bar/restaurant area. I don't necessarily love the way Some (not all) people in the Mt. Vernon area act if I'm being completely honest.. sort of the "if you aren't a regular that listens to underground bands you aren't welcome" feel. I love the atmosphere of this place. It's very classic and classy and is much better than the crowded hipster dungeon down the street (aka The Brewers Art). The pizza is hit or miss sometimes but they serve it late. Also, I always love the random crowds in the bar (usually wedding parties) which always leads to a fun night! read more

In the old Belvedere Hotel...now condos. Came during Artscape. The bar is legendary and fantastic. A great place to hang out. A little darker and it would be mysterious. Was once a speakeasy and boasts a ton of famous visitors (see the pictures coming in the door in the old hotel lobby). We brought our 8 year old and it was ok. Orioles game was on. The food here is great...at least the woodfired pizza. Seriously great sauce, chewy crust, and great toppings. The drinks looked fantastic but I love craft beer. They feature local breweries weekly it appears and lots of great options this time by Jailbreak. I have an egg on my face. It's not just any egg... It's a runny, drippy, smelly, rotten beast of an egg... And it was "pooped out" by none other than your beloved owl. He even had a grin on his feathery, wise face too as he laid it on me, literally. I didn't fight it, either. I took every gooey ounce of it like a champ because right here, right now I stand -- or I should say -- "write" corrected for lambasting your restaurant close to a year ago. Because something -- I don't know if it's magic or if you took my rather brutal, yet highly factual review to heart -- but something has changed... And that something is making me want to eat crow -- or in your case eat owl -- because almost every blow you took from me last fall has been blown right back in my face -- my face with the stinky, rancid egg on it. I'll give you two examples of how you've successfully redeemed yourself in my eyes... I'm giving you two and only two because I can. And because eggs have two components -- the yolk and the white. "Soaked in Yolk" Reason #1: I recently stopped in for lunch with a friend and ordered a burger. I specifically asked for it to be cooked medium with a little pink. When it came out as red as Marilyn Monroe's lipstick, the bartender took it off my bill, no questions asked. "My White Plight" Reason #2: I brought a colleague to your bar yesterday for lunch and I must say that everything -- and I mean everything -- we ordered was delicious! The fried green tomatoes were crunchy and delectable as they should be, even though they were dipped in batter. The duck fat fries made me want to "waddle" all the way to the chef, give him a duck face smile and kiss him on his ever so skilled hands for making an epic win of a potato in string form for me. Cute date night spot. We grabbed cocktails, crab Poutine, and lamb burgers. Cocktails were very good. Around same price $10-12 depending on what you get We got the crab Poutine. Huge chunks of crab, crispy fries, great gravy. Lamb burger was also good and juicy but the bread to meat ratio was off. More bread than meat. Potato chips were the side. I have this strange idea that getting snowed into a bar could potentially be a ton of fun. On a snowy Sunday evening, my friend and I headed over to the Owl Bar in Mount Vernon to try and make my fantasy a reality. The restaurant is located inside the Belvedere Hotel and has some really rich history. During prohibition, it was one of few speakeasies open. Inside there are plenty of owl themed decorations which goes nicely with the name. This is a place worth visiting for the history alone. This was definitely a beer and burger kind of night. On the menu they advertised a yard of beer that they could fill with any of their beers on tap. After looking over the beer list (they had some nice options) we decided to share the Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat. It was nice and light and would go down smoothly with our burgers. The beer had notes of orange and blueberry, and a tart, citrusy finish. It went down smoothly and we made a great choice. When we ordered the drink, the waiter warned us that if we broke the glass it was a $50 charge. We made sure to be very careful with the glass. While we were waiting for our meal, we noticed they had a brick pizza oven and people around us had ordered pizza's which looked amazing. Next time I'm there I definitely want to try that, they looked great. For my meal, my friend and I each ordered the Umami Burger, it came with red onion, roasted tomato, arugula, American cheese, truffle garlic aioli, on a pretzel roll. This was a very good burger. I tend to be a little bit picky and don't like when it is overcooked and at the Owl Bar, my burger was cooked to perfection. The burger came with a side and I ordered truffle fries. They were seasoned nicely, however not the best fries I've ever eaten. Some of my favorites are in Mount Washington at the Nickel Taphouse. For massive beers and great burgers, check out the Owl Bar in Mount Vernon. Met up with a local friend and he took me to this bar. It's located inside an interesting building called the Belvedere hotel that feels like it has a lot of history and character. The bar itself is pretty awesome. It has a darker, wooden décor with a couple TV's showing sports games. The service is excellent - the lady who served us at the bar was friendly and made a tasty Old Fashioned. The alcohol menu has plenty of good options, including local brews. We also ordered some food and it was delicious. Highly recommend the brie&black forest bacon pizza. Pizza was not overly greasy and the crust was fluffy. This is a place you can sit at the bar and catch a game or sit in dining area to enjoy a casual meal. Drinks were well made. The Owl Bar was perfect. I have had drinks, but haven't enjoyed the food. It's located in the Belvedere on Chase Street We were easily able to snag two seats at the bar. The bartender was funny, there when we needed him, but not overly attentive. We were looking for a good burger, but weren't super hungry. I was having a hard time deciding between all of their burger choices. But decided to keep it simple and split the Owl Bar Burger. We added the duck fat fries! I think they might have been better than the ones at Salt. They serve them with truffle aioli and a little park on top. I am 100% sure, we didn't leave a single one the plate. It was their own "special blend of chuck, short rib and brisket". They topped it with the classic L,T, American cheese, super gratifying crispy bacon and grilled onion. I am not a huge fan of that fake yellow cheese. Although, it certainly isn't out of place on a burger (or a grilled cheese for that matter). The best part for me was the pretzel roll. My beau and I came here on a whim before going to see the BSO. We had heard good things from a friend, and the yelp reviews seemed promising (PIZZA?!) so we figured we'd give it a try. For reference, we were there around 5pm on a Wednesday. First of all, I personally LOVE the decor! It has a vintage, rustic charm, and the low lighting made for a really intimate ambiance. It definitely is unique, but it was my kind of unique. The happy hour deals are awesome - $3 select drafts, bottles, and house wines. The drafts aren't just your typical Budweiser or coors - they have excellent craft brews available, such as Flying Dog's Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout (one of my favorites)! We had two beers each, and shared a Brie and ham pizza. Let it be known that I do not like ham. However, this was one of the best pizzas I have had! The perfect size for sharing with someone, VERY cheesy, with plenty of caramelized onions. Delicious. All in all, a cool place with really great food and drinks! We've abandoned the Brewer's Art, and the Owl Bar is our new place to hang and chill now. You'll never NOT find seating here, even for larger groups. You won't be squished between other patrons and have to squeeze past bodies into a slightly larger space. Service is great. Drinks are great. TVs are in good view. Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I picked this place for a date night dinner. Never been in the Belvedere before. Very cool. The history of this place was pretty fascinating. The drinks list as even more so. I've been on a Moscow Mule bender lately and this might have been the best one I've ever had. Eats: Fried pickles (to serve as a base for alcohol) Ahi Tuna BLT (hubs) Port Wine Burger (me) There was nothing left on any plate. At all. The fried pickles were super tasty. Crunchy and awesome. Hubs raved about his BLT. I don't eat fish but he loved it. The Port Wine burger with the port wine sauted onions and goat cheese. Pardon me while I wipe the drool from my mouth just thinking about it. Definitely get a reservation for this place. Watched quite a few people walk in only to turn around and walk back out. Tried to get drinks at the Owl Bar before dinner elsewhere. We were interrogated by three separate employees who made clear our party was unwelcome. Unlike the hundreds of bars I've visited in my lifetime, this bar does not allow any patrons to stand and enjoy drinks at the bar. Finding a way to accommodate us for 30 minutes for drinks in a half empty bar was beyond the abilities of this staff. There are too many bars and restaurants in this area to waste time with people who act like this. I once saw a rat run up the brick wall beside the pizza oven here--this place is not exactly the Ritz Carlton, not sure what is going on with the attitude. read more

My husband and I had to waste some time before returning to Brewer's Art, so we headed over to the Owl Bar. It is what you would expect a divey-type hotel bar to be, but it was great. We were hungry, so we ordered a pizza and added some meat on top. Our bartender Erin was so friendly and helpful. After a very long day of beer drinking, bar/brewery hopping, I was over beer. So she made me a great bloody Mary and we just sat there gathering energy to move on to the next stop. I am glad they had The Raven beer (they only had one), but we were not able to stop there on our trip that day, so it allowed us to kind of mark it off our list...until we can actually go there. The pizza was delicious. I am not sure if it was so good because we were hungry, or if it was actually wonderful from the fire oven in the corner of the bar. I think it was actually really good. Our tab was low and it was a great resting stop. I seriously want to return on a Sunday just for brunch! Bottomless Bloody Mary's and mimosas is a great excuse to get me to come back. I wanted to like this place more than I did. My first impression upon walking in was that it was decorated nicely. We sat at the bar and ordered from their cocktail menu. We tried two of their signature cocktails and I hated them both. The flavors weren't balanced at all to me. On the second round I just ordered an Old Fashioned but it was somehow still off. It was also odd that we were sitting at the bar on a slow night and it was still a struggle to get the bartender's attention when we wanted to cash out. While we were waiting, I discovered that I actually didn't like the decor. The more I looked around, the cheesier it was. The history of the Owl Bar makes it a must see spot in Baltimore - The Owl Bar was the hottest and sassiest spot in town. Robust but romantic, crowded but comfortable, kick-ass but friendly. Fun flowed, times were good, and the non-stop partying lasted for seventeen years. Then came the "Ban of the Booze." Prohibition, the noble experiment, had reared it's ugly head. Americans were having too much fun and needed to be "saved from themselves." Booze-"the root of all evils" - had to go. The owls on top of the bar are original from Prohibition days and when their eyes blink that means that the bar was open for selling drinks - how cool is that? The drinks are typical drink prices for a bar of this type plan on paying $8-12 per drink . Unfortunately the day we visited the Owl Bar the service from the wait staff/bartenders was really quite slow but i hope that they are better when it is busy. Let me first say that this is based on a drinks only experience as we did not eat dinner here. We stopped in for a drink since we were in the neighborhood and some of the pics I had seen made the space look really cool. You will leave smelling like greasy food. They did not have a great selection in the bar, and the bartenders had very heavy pours (not complaining but I think this was because they were lazy and did not want to have to wait on you much). Full disclosure that I did not drink here -- went for restaurant week brunch and don't typically day drink, so I have no idea what the bar element of Owl Bar is like. Nice atmosphere, beautiful building. We ordered the beignets to share and I got the tots and lox. Beignets were fine and the service was friendly. The tots and lox were extremely late and when they arrived they were simultaneously cold AND burned. How the heck did you all manage to do that? At least the lox portion was generous, otherwise I'd be leaving no fuller than when I came in. I'm not typically picky and hate to waste but this was bad -- I left most of it on the plate. My dining partner didn't really like her eggs benedict either. I would expect that a restaurant step up their game for the restaurant week menu, so either Owl Bar didn't do this or their food is usually worse than this. read more

The place is teeming with history. The photos at the entryway of the bar hints at what awaits inside. The interior throws you way back, when things were done slowly and purposively. You'd know what I mean when you see the familiar lines of the nursery rhyme hanging above the bar. We came in at the start of happy hour, so things were already busy. It took a while to get our order, but then again-- happy hour. But we didn't wait long at all to be served. We got the duck fat fries, pizza, caesar salad, and calamari. My wife liked the fries. There are other places you can go to get better calamari. The pizza and the salad were just as good as anywhere. Maybe next time we'll try the sandwiches. Having said that, I think the food is only secondary to the ambience and spirit of the place. The walls definitely have stories to tell. It's a place for friends to get together and for coworkers to become friends; the stuff that become new stories for the walls to tell. It's the type of establishment that you go to for nostalgia. The crowd is mixed, ranging from people who've been on facebook since its inception, to folks who can drive cars with manual transmission. The noise level is moderate to tolerable, I think because of the solid walls and high ceiling; but nothing too bad such that you can't have a nice conversation with your friends. So come. Unwind. Went here for restaurant week based on the online menu specifically designed for restaurant week. When we got there, less than 1/4 of the items listed online were available. Some items that were listed online but not available are baked Brie, green goddess hummus, shrimp and grits, brunch burger and many others. Classic bait and switch. The waiter and bartender were very pleasant, but when we asked about the other menu items the waiter went back and asked the head chef about the situation. Finally came here after years of wanting to hit up this spot and The 13th Floor inside The Belvedere building. While I didn't make it up to the 13th (it's more of a private venue space now) I did have the pleasure of grabbing a few cold ones at The Owl Bar. The interior is pretty unique and moody when you walk in and there are things like mounted game and stained glass panels with some cool phrases and words on them. The restaurant/bar itself is very spacious and I could see the place being really fun if you just wanted to try someplace new with a group of friends. I'm really into sour beer these days so I tried a few that they have on the menu that were foreign to me, but they also had some of the more known brewers if you want to stick to what you know. I look forward to heading back to this spot to try some of their brick oven pizza I keep hearing about, it smelled incredible. read more

It was the last Sunday before the new year of 2008. There were a handful of games which no one cared about because week 17 was a lock and key. My wife and I wanted to return to The Brewer's Art and enjoy some Resurrections. Too bad we were one hour too early. We panicked and walked around. Suzi called her friend Cam and he suggested "The Owl Bar." What? We walked there and had trouble finding the place. When we did, it seemed spooky. Stained glass windows and dim lighting. I was put off by the smoking (I forget I'm not in New York), but there were two televisions showing games. Baltimore was crushing Pittsburgh, but again, nobody cared. We ordered beers and tried a seafood medley/sampler, which contained oysters, mussels and shrimp. I wasn't fond of it. However, speaking with the bartender about New Years plans at the 13 floor bar was fun. We also complained about Kyle Boller. This place in general is nice if you come with a friend; you'll have undivided attention and a place where no one will bother you. If you fly solo, I would probably feel depressed quickly. The decor is amazing. It seems high class but you'll be fine in jeans or yoga pants. I have never been at night, but I'm sure it could get dark in there with the dark wood everything. The food was alright. We got the portobello fries for an app, the Owl Bar Burger and Carne Pizza. The pizza was the best thing. Seriously the best pizza crust I have ever had. The portobello fries were heavy. I'm a big eater and could only eat two. Too much for an app. The burger was decent. I always like pretzel rolls. The craft beer selection is good. They have a few of their own beers that local breweries brew for them. I like how they present their water. They use empty liquor bottles. Even though it's tap, it makes it feel a little special.
