Really loved the vibe here! Our server had just started (2 days before) but was excellent. My friend and I shared all three course during our restaurant week meal. We ordered the tomato saffron mussels, poutine, sweet potato gnocchi, fish n chips, bread pudding, and ice cream flight. I can say confidently the poutine was the crowd favorite. It was seasoned fries (not too salty cuz I'm old and my taste buds can't take it) and a roast beef in gravy topped with goat cheese. The gnocchi was a little tough (Baltimore has some excellent Italian so now I'm a snob), but the coconut curry sauce it came in was so delicious. The fish was well battered, not too heavy-handed and the right amount of old bay (again the salt thing). I don't like bread pudding in general so this one didn't change my mind. The ice cream flavors sounded better than they tasted. The only one we enjoyed was the strawberry and rose. The dessert was pretty disappointing, but didn't take away from us wanting to come back. The owl bar has been on my list for a while so here is my attempt at an honest and unbiased review. I should note that I was initially drawn to this place by its ambiance and atmosphere which on that level it 100% delivered, very cool place. My initial thoughts after being seated were that the menu is incredibly overpriced, one of their drinks literally costed 16$... the same price as one of their entrees. So we just ordered some basic rail drinks and the duck fat fries. The duck fat fries were delicious so after that we decided to order entrees , duck tacos and pork tacos. They took a while to come out but when we got them the first thing I noticed was that 1) I didn't get the duck tacos I ordered and on top of that 2) both orders of pork tacos were drier than a leather belt, but we were starved so we ate them anyways. While closing out I pointed out to the waiter about the food quality and order mess up and he comped my tacos which I was very grateful for. Overall TLDR: The owl bar is a great place to go for some fun drinks/apps and cool ambiance but for their pricing the kitchen quality needs to be brought up to a much higher standard. read more

A family member made an impromptu visit to town and made plans for several family and friends to gather for dinner and drinks. Originally at a popular east side seafood restaurant... That didn't work so he scrambled to find a place to accommodate the sizable group. And that's how we landed at this midtown dive. If you're familiar with the Belvedere Hotel... You know that it's way past its prime and in dire need of a REAL update. The place is dirty. Being that it's late in October, it's no surprise that the place would be decked out with Halloween decor. But trust me when I tell you that was not the only scary thing we encountered this evening. In all fairness our server Delia was fantastic. She worked with what she had and she seemed to handle our group of 11 with ease. The first sign of trouble occurred during drinks and starter items. My drink tasted like something I would get out of my dentist office. My friend sitting next to me complained that his calamari was way too salty and sent it back. Others complained that the calamari had been overcooked. When the main courses began to come out... We all looked suspiciously at our meals but proceeded anyway. I went with a burger because I did not trust this place to handle anything heavier than that at this point. How can you screw up a burger? Fortunately for me and a few others who had the burger, they didn't. But the fries were another story. How can you screw up fries? No seriously... how Sway? Bewildered as I am, they managed to do so. Our group of usual suspects is no stranger to eating out in groups together and we usually have a great time despite the level of food quality. Last night was no different, but this place ranked very low with all of us. It simply was not good. Aside from the terrible food... I've been to The Owl Bar a few times for happy hour and thats really all I can see myself going here for. Its inside a hotel but far from a hotel bar! The atmosphere is pretty cool and the brick oven always has the place smelling like pizza which is a nice perk. The happy hour menu features reasonably priced bites and drinks which are all just kinda ok, nothing too amazing. I Tried the breakfast pizza my last visit and was underwhelmed by it, I will say i will never get it again. I'll try again with a more basic pizza and see if it gets better. The perfect lunch spot after visiting F. Scott Fitzgerald's apartment on Park Ave. The owl bar is only like a mile or so away and easily walkable. They have happy hour starting 4 PM with $3 beers/ wines. Since it was F Scott's favorite neighborhood bar, it was an easy lunch spot decision. The food was eh, the drinks were eh. The prohibition punch definitely gives you BANG for your buck. That shit is strong, but good. He took the greatest care of me and my friend, during a Halloween party where it was super busy. Just a glance in his direction and he was attending to us immediately. The owl bar is located inside the Belvedere hotel and is an aesthetically pleasing place. The decorations are very rustic and the inside of the hotel is very classy. At first sight, I really really wanted to like this place but every time I go, it's just so flipping loud. I have to scream over the table to hear anything because the room just echos or the music is blaring. It's very hard to enjoy your drinks and dinner when every other word coming out of your mouth is "WHAT?!" Drink wise, the selection is pretty good - they have a wide variety of ales, ipa's, ciders, lagers, you name it on tap as well as a pretty hefty dinner and bar food menu. I've tried their brick oven pizza, their pulled pork sandwich, classic burger, and pretzel bites - all were decent (but nothing to write home about). It was all very salty as expected with any bar food but would def. recommend the drinks and brick oven pizza over any food item on their menu. Service is spotty pretty much every time I've been here - it's taken me a good 20-30 min to nail down someone for something as simple as water (maybe because they can't hear over the music??). But it's always a battle Trying to pay for the bill whenever I'm here too - and can easily add an additional 20-30 minutes waiting for someone to bring the check over. Overall, I like how owl bar is open late and there is the option to order decent food late at night but wouldn't be my first choice in the mount Vernon area simply because the atmosphere is way too loud and rowdy for me and can be pretty stress inducing after a long day read more

This used to be one of the best bars in Mount Vernon, but the service and quality have deteriorated over the past few months. If you like weak drinks and high drink prices this is the place to go. Stopped in the Owl Bar to kick off a ladies night and it was a great choice! Our server Kim was awesome and such a sweet heart. We had an assortment of drinks, all made well (and strong! Lol). We tried the crab Mac & Cheese, Duck Fries, Fried Green Tomatoes, Calamari, and Crab Hushpuppies! Everything was delicious (the duck fries weren't a must have). We also had tried their pizzas! Fresh, crispy and full of flavor. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star experience was the food wait time... it was certainly "extended" and once it did start coming out it came out in stages so everyone was eating at different times. We ordered the wings, truffle fries, crab dip pizza and Marichkas bbq chicken pizza. Everything was delicious! The crab pizza had plenty of crab and the combination of cheese was amazing. The jalapenos on the chicken pizza added a nice kick and a must order if you love spice. We were scraping and fighting for the crumbs with each dish. Prices are reasonable and service here was great. Yesterday was my first day living in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. Not only was my experience pleasant but I ended it at the amazing "Owl Bar." It's located inside of a hotel, but I forgot the name of it. My bartender was one of the best i've encountered. She even drew a map to guide me back to my apartment. The food was excellent. I enjoyed a half dozen of Korean BBQ wings accompanied by a deviled egg appetizer. Blasting through the environment were oldie but goodie songs that we all could relate too. This is the restaurant inside The Belvedere. They have very friend staff and their food is tasty. We placed an order for carry out, and the staff on the phone and in the bar were very nice and accommodating. We got a few sides and sauces, and everything was correct. We got the crab ball appetizer which was delicious and had little filler, but you only get 3 bites (for $12 I'm not sure it's worth it). The sliders were all very tasty. I got the crispy chicken, short rib, and truffle, and my coworker got the tuna ones. They look big at first, but unfortunately they're mostly just bread. The truffle one had the best flavor and was surprisingly my favorite. They all fell apart immediately, so not a good option if you're dining with someone you're trying to impress. The Caesar salads are actually a decent size. Next time I would go for the pizza. They look pretty good based on the yelp pictures and look fairly big. Overall their food was okay, a little overpriced (maybe standard prices for a hotel restaurant), but we would definitely come back to try some other options. read more

Our party of 4 had a great time at the Owl Bar back in February. The decor is perfect for a cold night with a cocktail. The night we went there was a wedding party taking up most of the bar area and no tables were available. Somehow we were able to get the last free cocktail table near the bar and ordered our drinks and meals from the bartender. I'm in love with the stained glass. It's a unique and old school touch that brings me back to parochial middle school days. I used to write this poem over and over for all of the sins I committed... So, of course, a bar that gives me an excuse to exercise my craft beer seeking palate as well as my general approval of interior exposed brick and (fake?) mounted big game animals... Want a really well crafted drink in a spot drowning in history? Come here. So happy we stopped in and had a drink. This was a gorgeous spot and had a great crowd. You could feel the history of this long running bar everywhere you look. Just watch out for the animal heads everywhere! The husband had a Manhattan and I had something that required an orange zest to be set on fire. I can't remember the name but both were quality drinks. Worth the $10-12 price tag. We didn't have anything to eat here, so I can't comment on the food. I'd keep this in mind for a pre- or post- dinner drink place. My kids and I took my mother here for her birthday Friday. My daughter's boyfriend said he liked it and it was reasonably priced, although he had only gotten the pizza. That probably should have been an indication that maybe the seafood would not be the best thing on the menu...because it wasn't. It's basically a bar/restaurant. It was really dark inside, which didn't bother me and it's also inside The Belvedere, which was nice. Now, back to the food... This is a good place if you like bar food: pizza, wings and burgers. We didn't order pizza, but the wings and the burger I had was really good. I ordered crab corn hush puppies with some kind of really sweet corn dip on the side. They had very little crab. THEY WERE ALSO BURNT. Disappointing. My mother, the birthday girl, ordered fried green tomatoes with crab. She also said it had very little crab. Her main course was the crabcake platter. She said it had more filler than crab. Now, we Marylanders know our crabs. Why do a crab dish if you're not going to do it right and charge $31 for it???? Lastly, a small thing that bothered me was the fact that they had no ketchup. I know there are supply chain shortages, but I never heard that ketchup was in short supply. They're not in the middle of the desert. There were several drugstores, etc., around them. Why didn't they just send someone to the store to grab a couple bottles, or better yet, have it delivered? Our favorite bar in Mount Vernon. The Belvedere is beautiful and timeless and holds a special place in our hearts (we are getting married there this winter). But even if that wasn't the case and we didn't get that lifetime V.I.B. bar discount (no lie though, it's super clutch), we would still be here on the regular. They always have good local beers on draft and classic cocktails. Everything we've tried on the menu has been great but it's the classic bar foods we keep going back to - wood fire pizzas and chicken wings (wise guy sauce, Korean BBQ, old bay, all amazing). I also love the atmosphere of this old prohibition era bar. Be sure to check out the stained glass riddle above the bar - apparently back in the day, if you were in the know and could finish the saying, that was the sign you were cool enough to serve a drink. I've never really had a bad experience here - the service has always been superb; however, the food is okay. I really like the atmosphere, and have come here for drinks with friends. My favorite part is the ambiance and the history of the place. I can imagine rubbing elbows with F. Scott Fitzgerald and hanging out in a speak-easy during prohibition. I think they did a great job with the antique glass, the owls everywhere, and the stuffed animal heads on the wall. It really does have a unique atmosphere. I have had inconsistent experiences with the wait staff here. Even at times when the bar has been all but empty, I feel like the time for service was surprisingly slow. Last time I was here, it took far too long for our drink order to be taken and then to be brought to us, considering that there were only 5 other people in the whole bar. read more

No complaints. I love just sitting in here because the room is so gorgeous. I love 1920's decor, all the dark, rich browns and forest greens and hazy lights. Vintage stools, chairs and bar top. It's pleasantly dark and breezy in the daytime with just enough light coming through a huge stained glass window. My boyfriend and I come in for brunch often, and everything we've got has been tasty. Had the breakfast nachos last visit and the bacon and sausage in there really made it. There is a nice balance of sweet and savory dishes on the brunch menu. I'll have to try the pancakes next time. I moved to Baltimore in 2015 and I have been wanting to go to The Owl Bar for a few years now. We did a date night this past Saturday. We went to The Charles to see "I, Tonya" which was an incredible film. And then we hit The Owl Bar. It was a great evening! Now more about The Owl Bar. We split a caprese pizza. I had a cranberry cider and my partner just had water since he was driving. The caprese pizza was delicious! Lots of cheese and fresh tomato & basil. Pizza was perfect. The cider however was served warm so it honestly wasn't that good. I can drink a warm can of cider at home - I wouldn't knowingly spend $7+ for a warm beer or cider. But whatever. The atmosphere is great! Cool old school stuff from the turn on the previous century - oak woodwork, exposed brick walls, stained glass, victorian wallpaper (with owls - so cute). Lots of pics of famous people that have been guests at the hotel. Oh yeah, The Owl Bar is inside of turn of the last century old school hotel. The whole place oozes with class and charm. Lots of owl sculptures here and there. It is fun to try to spot all of the owls while you are waiting for your food to be served. The food was served fast. The waitress was very friendly. I didn't use the restroom so I don't have a report on that. I would definitely go back. I rarely visit the Owl Bar any more, despite the fabulous decor and location, because they're so understaffed. It's always really loud and busy, and there are maybe 2 servers for the entire restaurant. Sometimes it can take 45 minutes to get served, and even then, the food isn't that great.
