Great seafood spot! We sat at the oyster bar and really enjoyed watching everything being prepared fresh. The oysters were fresh and flavorful, and the seafood boil with snow crab, corn, and potatoes was delicious and well-seasoned. The New England clam chowder was creamy and hit the spot. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was lively without feeling rushed. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Tahoe. We'll be back!
For our first night in South Lake Tahoe we my husband decided to eat here and I was skeptical. Well let me tell you that I was glad he made that choice! The clam chowder was delicious and flavorful and it comes with these little cute crackers. I had the shrimp linguine and the cheese they placed on top was phenomenal. My husband had the BOUILLABAISSE it had Shrimp, Lobster, Crab Legs, Clams, Mussels, Cod and he said it was great and I tried it as well and he was right! It's a small bar but it's worth the wait. Our waiter Kyle was amazing and took very good care of us. You honestly can't go wrong by eating at this restaurant!
Confused on reviews mentioning the Palace Station Oyster. This does not do the trick or even comes anywhere close. We ordered the Lobster Pan Roast and it came in half the portion sized bowl compared to Palace Station but for the same price. Flavor was extremely off. Just tastes like tangy tomato? No hot sauce could save it. Clam Chowder was good but very thick and lacked clams. Oysters were fresh. Steamed Mussels were tasty. Definitely not a place I would ever wait in line for having experience delicious pan roast back in Los Angeles and Vegas.
Overall loved the food and the price was fair for everything, if you're looking for Cajun spice we don't really get that from our seafood boils and expect that the "sauce" you'd usually get from a boil is not what you get here - it's much more of a beer boil seasoning reminiscent of a seafood soup dish going on here but it's delicious and you get plenty of seafood with whatever you choose. Overall would recommend if you're craving seafood in the area, but I wouldn't go for just the seafood boil.
During our recent visit to Tahoe, we were out exploring and happened to come up upon this place. I saw that it was voted best seafood in Tahoe and I can see why. Service was good . Lady making the dishes was as well. And the Caesar salad was fresh and had lots of parmesan. But the star of the meal was the Bouillabaisse. It was absolutely delicious. Fresh and full of a generous seafood. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often.
This was our first visit to this fine establishment... I wish we had discovered it on our previous visit because it is so spectacular we have been two nights in a row and I can't tell you that NEVER has happened before. We had some of the most delicious sourdough bread to start and that's not saying less because my husband is a pastry chef and he makes it on the daily. So for our first visit we had Caesar salad, Gumbo, and Linguine and Clams everything was delicious! So much so my hubby persuaded me to return tonight for night two because he just had to have more.... So he had the try out the Jambalaya and me the New England chowder... as usual everything's spectacular. I know you want me to write about the SERVICE, I mean chef Kyle and his crew are on top of everything number one! Ambience of course spectacular. Please do not come here because then I have to wait in a longer line ;)
Absolutely incredible oyster bar experience in Lake Tahoe. Everything was unbelievably fresh and full of flavor. We started with oysters on the half shell and they were briny, sweet, and ice-cold -- exactly how they should be. The sauces and lemon wedges were a perfect touch without overpowering the natural flavor. The seafood stew/cioppino was the star of the show. Loaded with crab, lobster, shrimp and clams in a rich, savory broth that you'll want to soak up with bread. The clam bowl was also fantastic -- tender, perfectly cooked clams in a flavorful, garlicky broth with just the right amount of heat.. Ambiance was perfect. Service was friendly and attentive, and you can really tell they care about quality. Portions were generous and totally worth it. If you're a seafood lover visiting Tahoe, this place is a must-stop. I'd come back in a heartbeat!
It's hard to come close to The Oyster Bar at Palace Station in Vegas, but The Oyster Bar at the Golden Nugget will certainly do the trick. You definitely won't be waiting hours to get a seat, which to me is a plus. The staff were really friendly and the food came out timely. We had the caesar salad, house special pan roast, and cioppino. All taste great and would recommend these to folks looking for something tasty!! My only wish is that the restrooms were closer! lol, you gotta walk a little far before you get to one.
Came on a Saturday evening and there was a bit of a wait but wasn't too bad. This is my second time back since being back in Lake Tahoe since I am from the Bay Area and come up to snowboard. The gumbo is amazing and keeps me coming back! The service is also quick, friendly, and very attentive. I get it with crab and add the rice in together. Will definitely be a must routine when in town.
A must try for all seafood lovers! Service is super welcoming and helpful in addressing all our questions as first timers. Nice bar set up where we could see the food being prepared. We ordered the clam chowder, steamed clams, house pan roast, and seafood boil. All tasted amazing! If I had to change one thing, Id make the clam chowder slightly less thick as it wasnt really soup texture, but more porridge-like. I definitely plan on coming back here anytime Im in the area. Tip: Get in line before 6pm to avoid a super long wait time.
I love coming here on Sunday because they open at 11:00 a.m. and it's the perfect timing for every time I'm about to go back home I have to stop by here and get me a seafood boil with noodles for The Hangover. I really like their Cioppino which is not to thick but is a little bit on the soupy side and it's really good with noodles in it. I also like their gumbo because it's simple and it's very flavorful and doesn't have too much ingredients in there that gets too overwhelming and have to use fingers. Also I do like their French seafood boil stew which is really rich and has Lobster in it with crab and other Seafood like mussels and clams and fish. I always like adding noodles to my seafood boil because it reminds me of ramen. Also I find the noodles very comforting and isn't too much of a carb. I also like their clam chowder which is really creamy and Rich and very flavorful and it is fillling too. The service here is always quick on their feet and refilling our water, with extra napkin and wet wipes. The Ambiance is casual and it is a bar top and it does get filled quickly. Recommended dish: bouillabaisse Details: I happened to stayed at Hard Rock hotel in Tahoe, and when I passed by this place, the aroma just kicks right in. And oh my goodness, that beautiful seafood smell just drags you over to their bar lol. So it was a must must must try when I saw this place. I saw people at the bar eating and their bowls had clams, mussels, Dungeness crab, lobster tail and king crab legs sticking out. And just looking at it made me crave for it so much more. I stop in for lunch because that was the only time I could go. I knew they open at 11am and that I should get there early due to limited seats. But I didn't think it would get so pack for lunch as well. Not only that, when I went, there were at at least 6 large parties. I got there around 11:30ish and waited for an hour and a half to get seated. We pretty much waited 3 rounds of people eating before we could sit down. But finally we made it. We ordered the fresh oysters, the bouillabaisse, and the gumbo. I can't say how the oysters were since I don't eat raw. As for the gumbo, we added crab meat to it and to my surprise, it was more on the sweet side compared to savory. I was pretty surprised by that and I'm not too crazy of a fan of sweet food so I thought that it was okay. As for the bouillabaisse, omg it was soooo delicious!!! It had such fragrant fresh seafood smell, a ton and a ton of seafood in your bowl. They asked me if I would to add noodles or rice to my dish and I added the noodles/pasta. The pasta definitely soaks up the flavor of the broth. So delicious, so flavorful, so fresh! A huge huge plus that it comes with a ton of seafood. I had a whole lobster tail, half Dungeness crab, and some mussels and clams. It definitely made that long wait worth it. But I would definitely come when they before they open because the line gets filled up quick. And sometimes people are waiting in line with a big party but not all the party are there until they're close to next in line. Definitely worth the wait! The counter to eat serves maybe 15 people at a time. The food is cooked right in front of you. The staff is awesome & check on you enough to make sure all is good! The oysters are served right away & such an awesome presentation! We couldn't decide on what to eat because it all just smelled so gooooooood! And the pictures made us want to try everything! We decided to order the Jambalaya (we added crab) & The House pan roast. De-freaking-licious! Such a hearty warm, feel good meal. My oh my! Writing this review & posting the pics is making me want to walk there again! If you love seafood, this is a must! If you don't like seafood, one taste of this & you will love it! If you are craving for a raw bar and great unpretentious seafood, hold onto your hat and run over to the Oyster Bar inside Hard Rock Hotel. My goodness! They serve straight up phenomenal sea food, dish after dish! STARTERS Lump Crab Cocktail- luscious chunks ( not shredded morsels) of fresh crabmeat served with Dijon aioli . A satisfying dish for crab lovers , delighted me with its yummy, hearty goodness $19 4 1/2 stars Clam Chowder - this was the least favorite item of our meal. We chose the New England style soup. It was a bit too salty, taste was ok but it had nice amount of clams. I would skip this soup next time though to be honest since there are plenty other much better offerings. $8 21/2 stars Steam Clams- fresh clams swimming in a aromatic wine sauce made with minced garlic, butter and herbs. Trying not to eat too much carbs, I faltered because the sauce is "that good" which was mopped up clean with countless chunks of bread. I didn't want it to go to waste -- hahahahaha. $17 5 stars Dozen Oysters in Half Shell- yes, the freshest oysters you can get in Tahoe. $26 4 1/2,stars MAIN COURSE The classic House Pan Roast- this is hands down the most popular order at Oyster Bar and the reason we go! Fresh, fresh, fresh shrimp, crab and other goodness cooked beautifully in minced celery, garlic, wine and tomato cream sauce . It's concoction is kicked up spicy with a bit of chili. Oh lord, can't wait to go back again for this! $29 5 stars. You gotta do this! Jam Roast- wow, this is special because it is their marriage of jambalaya and house pan roast all mixed together for creation of this dish. Came back twice for lunch and dinner. Thats how good this place is, at least for me. Only thing that was not good was the gumbo; it was hella salty. I got a head ache from it. But outside of that, we tried in two meals: the specialty jam pan roast (cross between pan roast and jambalaya), cioppino, seafood bouillabaisse, half a dozen oysters, oyster shooter, and the famous clam chowder. They were all delicious. My fave was the pan roast. The service was lacking a bit but they were really busy and when we got service, it was courteous. The atmosphere was open and the setting is about a 25 person bar seating. I think you do have to be 21 years old to dine but i feel that it makes it more intimate. Overall a 4.5 in my book. The saltiness of the gumbo killed .5 of the rating. We only ate a quarter of it and added crab. What a waste :( read more

Came back to this restaurant after a couple years. Sadly the pan roast didn't taste as good as before. I also don't suggest the lobster pan roast. The lobster is is translucent even that cooked it well done and it doesn't taste like lobster. They still have a great fresh oyster, bouillabaisse and great service. read more

This is my favorite spot to eat when I come visit Tahoe. The seafood is so fresh and tastes amazing. Almost everything on the menu is a hit. The oysters are so fresh all I need is a little hot sauce and lemon juice on them. The clam chowder is thick and chunky with bit pieces of meat and potato. My top 3 things to get are the Crab Legs Seafood Boil, Jambalaya, and Gumbo. Everything tastes so authentic and the chefs cook everything to perfection. Last time I got the jambalaya, I asked the chef to make it extra spicy for me and he delivered! It was super spicy but not to where I couldn't taste the flavor of the meal. The sausage was chewy, the shrimp was meaty, and the chicken was juicy. Definitely will continue to come here every Tahoe visit. There is a location in Sacramento but I prefer the Tahoe one! read more

After eating here all 3 of us had FOOD POISONING on 8/16. Really bad stomach pain for over 24hrs the morning after. We got nauseous and had a cold. We got oysters and a few of the seafood roast. The food was good and there was no indication of it being spoiled. There is a salmonella poisoning on shrimps currently but the county health thinks it's their oysters that is causing food poisoning. They also said multiple people have reported food poisoning here and they're investigating. I've called and emailed hard rock to notify them and they are not responding. read more
This place never disappoints. Every time we make a trip to the Lake, we find time to visit. While the wait to be seated can sometimes take a while, it's easy to see why and I can tell you it's worth it. The servers and cooks provide exceptional service, while we return for the food, the service seals the deal. The oysters are fresh and very clean. The pan roasts are perfectly seasoned with tons of shrimp, lobster or whatever you order them with. If you're into oysters, be sure to try an oyster shooter. Okay. I really wanted to like this place. It's open. You see food being prepared... for better or worse. Oysters were phenomenal! Fresh and tasty! The rest, blah. The clams were okay. Chewy and a little fishy. The shrimp cocktail. Okay. Mildly fishy. The crab salad, forget about it. When yuh watch the line cook scoop the crab from a bucket onto the plate... ah no thank you. I had wanted to try this place last night as I was staying in hard rock and this place is right in the casino near the sportsbook. After last night's $30 burger and beer, I figure we should definitely give this place a try. Order the bouillabaisse. Wow! It is packed with seafood. Lobster crab shrimp clams fish. Boy it was good. I visit the oyster bar every time I'm in Tahoe! The food has been consistently fresh and delicious ever since I first started coming here. Be sure to line up before dinner time because the line can be long. The wait can range from 45min-1hr. This place was very good and the service was nice. Some items of the menu were really good other need more seasoning and creaminess but is all about each person taste and likeness. We had the Crab Pan Roast (my favorite dish) def order this!! the Fresh Oysters (second favorite dish), Shrimp Linguine (I wish this had been more creamy) but it was still a good dish. Steamed Mussels (also good but still wish the butter sauce had more creaminess and some lemon. Tip: be ready to wait in line, it gets long! read more
I hands down love this place. And will stand in long lines for very little places. This is one place I'll stand in line for. I went here for the first time pre-pandemic in Feb 2020. And have finally had a chance to come back in May 2021. Hooray! I've tried the gumbo, jambalaya, crab Louie, tequila oyster shooters, and clam chowder. Having lived in New England, I finally found a place that comes close to Northeast clam chowder. Not too thick. Not too watery. Enough clams. Not too much veggies. This place is da bomb and worth waiting. I always leave feeling satisfied and happy. The employees are hard working, attentive, quick and kind. Yummy in my tummy. Oyster bar was super cute, kinda like a bar seating area. We had to wait 25 minutes in line because we ate a little late so it was packed. The minute we sat down we were greeted. The menu was simple, but we looked at the people around us, and what they were eating so that's how we based our order. First was the Cesar salad, which was HUGE and delicious! Next was the oysters which were so good and fresh! The seafood boil was amazing and spicy! Definitely a lot of work to get that meat out of those crab legs and I think I ended up getting the person next to me...lol but the food was great! Totally a surprised experience. read more

First off this bar is located in the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel & Casino. The line at The Oyster Bar can be long during dinner. We didn't have to wait during lunch time. Hence, it was just the two of us! We came on a Friday afternoon as well. The seafood is definitely fresh & very filling/huge portions! We ordered: * Jambalaya * Bouillabaisse The Jambalaya has a kick to it, it is a bit spicy. I really enjoyed the proteins that were in this bowl such as; the shrimp, chicken & andouille. The Bouillabaisse is one of the popular dishes they recommended. Saw good reviews about this place and it's not too far from where I stay so my husband and I decided to go last night. Wait was long(about 20 mins) while there were available seatings. Staff didn't really communicate so I was in line wondering if they still take any new orders.. anyways we got in. It took another 10 good minutes to order. And obviously not every staff would take your order.. i had to wait for the correct one for ordering. I was starving at the time already and my husband was getting hangry. Finally ordered food. Clam chowder was pretty good which made me a little happier. First a couple oysters were good and fresh. Despite there were small shell pieces in them here and there they were delicious. Then that's when drama started.. I had a big bite of a bad one. A really really bad one. It was the taste of a insanely smelly ocean smell mixed with bird poop and old seaweed. It could have died for too long. I didn't know what to do because I had nothing to spit it out on. But I had bad nausea all of the sudden because it just felt like chewing poop. I was about to throw up. I ended up spitting it out back on that shell but I totally lost my appetite at that point.. I mean.. it's not really their fault but it was awful. A staff took it over. Apologized and gave me another 2. Unfortunately at that point I didn't really want anything anymore. And I had to keep drinking a beer to get over that nasty taste in my mouth. And I had been having that bad taste for another couple hours and constantly burping. I really wanted to like that place but I just can't. read more
Portions for a seafood restaurant are outstanding. Attitude from Anne was horrible but all other servers were super nice and worked super hard. Shrimp Linguine, Clams were above and beyond. Still 5 stars despite the miserable employee. Come here early or late to ensure quick seating otherwise the wait gets looong and deservedly so. read more

Every time I make my way to Lake Tahoe, The Oyster Bar typically has a line out the door. It is quite literally a bar with maybe 20-25 seats and you have to wait in line in order to get in. There are no reservations or checking in and being able to walk around. I would say that is the only downside. BUT, if you have the time and you're willing to wait, the food is definitely worth it. The staff were so nice and answered any questions we had about the menu and gave us drink recommendations for our meals. We started with a dozen oysters which were great size and all sweet. The mignonette that comes with the platter doesn't overpower the flavor of the oysters. We also ordered the Pan Roast Lobster which was basically 2 lobster tails in a tomato bisque. It had so much flavor and was creamy. Adding the rice to finish it off is the best hack. The Gumbo was delicious as well and packed with seafood. I added crab to mine for an extra charge and it was worth it. Since I get there close to closing, they ran out of the clam chowder so it was a bit of a bummer that I wasn't able to try it. 10/10!! This place is amazing! Due to covid, reservations are a must! While sitting at the bar, we saw several people turned away because they didn't have reservations. We had reservations for 11am and were seated right away. We ordered raw oysters, house pan roast, oyster shooters, and a michelada. The oysters were delicious but the house pan roast was BOMB! It was a good size portion and full of meat! They definitely did not skimp out like many other seafood restaurants do. Well worth the money!!! The sauce is very creamy and full of flavor. I would probably want to try the peel and shrimp next. I can't wait to come back! read more

For it being out in Lake Tahoe they had really good fresh oysters! Their micheleda was good as well along with the clam chowder, the shrimp cocktail wasn't anything too special and be warn, their shooters are pretty strong so if you like your shots stronger than it might be for you. Services here was fast, great and friendly and the ambiance here is relaxed and open since it's an open bar where you can see most of your food or drinks being prepared which is a plus in my book. But heads up, seats are limited so either go early and beat the line and crowd or you'll have to wait. read more
Everything is good. Yes. But what I need y'all to do is GET THE PAN ROAST. If you don't know what to get, get the pan roast. All of them are good. Get what you like. I tried the house pan roast with andouille sausage added and the lobster pan roast. Both are really good BUT DAT LOBSTER, Ooooweeee they gave us huge chunks and everything was like melt in your mouth! Ask for more bread to sop up all the sauce. Came here two days in a row. First time in and was really excited to try them out. Got lucky on a Friday night and didn't have to wait to be seated. Started with oysters and clam chowder and then got a shrimp boil for the main. The oysters were fresh... There were pieces of shell in the oyster that indicates them not wiping the blade after each oyster shuck. Really crunchy oysters is not necessarily appetizing to me. The clam chowder was solid. The shrimp boil was very lemon forward and I appreciated that. My problem was the shrimp... they were over cooked for me and a tad rubbery. I guess when the seafood options are limited this is good. read more

Hi Jack! That is correct, Oyster Bar has returned to serving our guests on a first come first serve basis.

As of May 2022, the only item available for take out is clam chowder.
