Very few places deserve zero stars. Based on our lunch on Saturday, this is one of them. Maybe they were having a bad day. They certainly didn't make our day any better. Waiting 40 minutes for four sandwiches that were mediocre is unbelievable. Our expectations were never managed. In fact, I thought it'd be rather quick given how many people were "working" by just standing around and only one person ahead of us in line. The quality of the food was atrocious. The ambiance is severely lacking. Prices would have been reasonable if either of these elements weren't terrible. When you have mouths to feed, it's important to go to a place that delivers on the promise of good food. This just wasn't one of them. My wife summed it up well: "We will never get that time back." At first glance I was in shock that Gayle's Bakery in Capitola had 1/2 less star overall score that the Palm Deli... I mean, come on. Gayle's is an icon. Then I noticed that Gayle's have over 500 reviews and the deli, about 50, so it makes sense. I am a former employee of the Palm Deli and I loved the food there. While not the biggest fan of Acai, the sandwiches are fabulous. My favorite is the La Fiesta, cold, on sliced sourdough. Get it... you won't be sorry. I have seen comments on Yelp about the items being overpriced and I personally remember some comments from customers about prices when I worked there. However, the sandwiches are yummy, the staff is super friendly and everything in the back (employees only) is very well-maintained and clean, so there's nothing to worry about there. In my almost 25 yrs of working in the restaurant industry, cleanliness in the back-of-house is sometimes rare. The Palm has an A for that. read more

We have been regular customers at this place Since it opened. So the other day, we go to pick up our Order, and when we got it home, The bagel and cream cheese could not be eaten. The bagel was badly burnt on both sides and after two bites I had to toss it. The breakfast omelette was horrible. Grissly meat And salty potatoes. Just awful poor quality. What really angers us is that when I called them up and kindly requested a credit or a refund, I was routed to email the owner in order to receive my refund which I found preposterous. What restaurant asks you to do such a thing? So I email the person and explain my situation. No response. I called the deli and emailed again. No response. I then emailed the owner stating that I was going to report them to various sources because they refused to accommodate us properly. Our tab came to $46 and the bag of food was so very light. Someone picked up a vegie sandwich for me at this place so I can't comment on the staff or the decor. The sandwich was terrible. I can eat just about anything but I was only able to eat one half this sandwich. The hummus spread gave it a pasty, chalky texture, the avocado was grayish-brown, there was no tomato, and the other ingredients were skimpy. There are other delis in Aptos that give you a lot more and a lot tastier, fresher ingredients on a vegie sandwich and charge less. read more

I heard this from my co-worker just a few days ago so i had to check it out since i used to go when it was piggie's. the make over is really nice,lots of lighting to make it look really accommodating.i liked the inside seating as well if you dont feel like eating outside.staff was super nice and friendly,had more than enough people to get things going which is a plus for me. food price and portion is competitive also.the buffalo soldier sandwich that i ordered was kinda iffy at first since it was a cold type sandwich but i liked it a lot!! all in all i will be coming back again for lunch or maybe breakfast since i work in the area. read more

The salad was fantastic, the sandwich (made gluten free by making it a lettuce wrap) really hit the spot, and the kids' choices were equally tasty. I LOOOOOVED this place when I was visiting Aptos/Santa Cruz. If I could remember, I think I got the panini-styled basic breakfast burrito and it was so good. My son's 10u baseball team had a game just down the street at the Polo Grounds a few weeks ago on Sunday the 18th of Sept. I decided on the THE AARON GLAUM sandwich was incredibly tasty. It consisted of Turkey, Ham, Avocado, Provolone, Honey Mustard and Mayo w/ Lettuce and tomato on Ciabatta roll. Really good. My boyfriend and I came to Aptos to celebrate our anniversary, and wanted to grab something to take for lunch to the beach. I had been told by a couple of friends that this place had good sandwiches, so we went (even though there was a couple of iffy reviews). We got to the deli and there were maybe 2 people inside waiting and 3 or so outside waiting for already ordered sandwiches. We ordered and then went outside to wait (covid signs from the shop state they'll bring your order out when it's done). We ordered 2 cold deli sandwiches, and ended up waiting 40 minutes. I understand that people do call in orders, and that the shop gets busy, but it was not busy to where it should have taken 40 minutes for 2 deli sandwiches. A daughter and father got their food maybe 5 minutes before we did and they had already been waiting when we got there. Another man named Dave that was already waiting when we arrived checked in on his food twice and ended up just leaving. I went in to inquire about our order after about 30 minutes and I truly couldn't see why they were taking such a long time. I could see 5 people working, and it seemed very disorganized. If they were so backed up, they should let customers know it will be such a long wait at the time of ordering. I've worked in food service, so I understand it can get incredibly busy and stressful, but proper management of shift would help decrease that. My boyfriend said his sandwich was soggy and mine was okay. A disappointing experience. read more

Food is ok, if and when you get it. Service is friendly, but wildly inexperienced/clueless for the amount of customers they have. Was talked out of my order, and into one that was "pre-rolled", thinking this would expedite things. Nope. Still had to wait 30 minutes without prior warning for them to produce a "pre-rolled" breakfast burrito from either the microwave or a panini press- I'll never know which they decided to use, because I left before it finally came. I can tell you that Both were left idle the entire time they attended to some other orders that weren't "pre-rolled" though. If I thought the issue would have been resolvable, I would have at least done them the courtesy of asking for a refund of my money, and explained why I was asking for it. Unfortunately, I couldn't rationalize being able to give them any more of my time, on top of the money I had already given them. However, if you're a tourist, or new to the area, I highly recommend you go here for all three meals. It's the best. You'll love it. No need to try anywhere else. read more

This place is located where the old Piggy market used to be. I love this place! I mainly go here for their sandwiches. I always get erikas, but I've gotten jacks before, and have had bites of Italian job and Reuben. Overall every sandwich I've had tastes pretty great. We will sometimes grab to go and eat it at hidden beach. It's located in the middle of a bunch of redwoods so eat outdoors on a sunny day, it's gorgeous. They do have indoor seating too, with a huge aquarium at the doorway, which my kids love (but my kids can get a little loud so outdoors is better). read more

We were looking for a place to grab breakfast burritos and while we were stopped at a light, I saw this sign that said "breakfast burritos - served all day. The Palm Deli." Now if that isn't a sign, I don't know what is. Anyway, we followed the arrows, parked, and walked into the Deli. The location is kind of hidden, but I loved all the trees covering the area. We order two bacon basic plus burritos and had them heated on the panini grill. Best breakfast burritos I've had in Aptos! I had an underwhelming sandwich here. The roll was very flour-y (for example there was excess flour all over the top) and it fell apart. The Palm Deli has a number of things I like. Breakfast burritos grilled in a panini grill - great ingredients, toasty warm, and crispy tortilla. Decent coffee. Sportscenter or the Giants playing whenever I visit. A good local wine selection, and plenty of unique beverages and beers. There is a fish tank that is always clean and just fun, and the meatball sub I had last visit had great big, seasoned meatballs with cheese melted on top and delicious red sauce. Local art and murals cover the walls, and the palm branch hut decor gives it a fun feel. The even sell disc golf discs and gelato. And they have trivia questions at the tables, which is fun, even if it is probably unsanitary. Did you feel like packed too much into that paragraph? Well, I feel like at Palm Deli they pack too much into one place, and you have to wait in line to order, and then wait in line again to pay, often waiting for the employee who took your order to walk over back and forth a few times. This place is a gem! I'm from SF but my fiance and I met our wedding officiant here at his recommendation (we're getting married down that way and he lives there). I'm SO glad he picked this place! It's nestled beneath towering redwoods, it looks like a little cottage, and inside is jam-packed with goodies and nice folks crafting delicious sandwiches. Solid spot. I love that their sandwiches aren't huge monsters like up in SF. These are reasonably sized meals, not too much to eat in one sitting. I had the Thanksgiving Every Day (or something like that) and enjoyed it. It had turkey, brie, and a cranberry sauce... My only issue was that the cranberry sauce was suuuuuper sweet and tasted like jam, which was a bit weird on a meat and cheese sandwich. read more
