Huge shout out to Mac, Rubina, and Nadia. They turned a beautiful venue (the Palms) into a fairytale setting for our wedding on 5/3/24. Very accommodating and easy to work with, they made us feel like ours was the only event they would be having all year. While I was no bridezilla, I did make my share of switches and changes. AND - they rented both the Queen Palm villa and Foxtail villa out to us for our out-of-town guests (and the bride and groom) Let's tall above and beyond! The day after our wedding, Rubina made the last six remaining guests lunch and brought it to our villa. AND - on checkout day, she made a hot breakfast for the final four of us. That's going the extra mile for sure. When leaving the venue (reluctantly) Rubina told us we were welcomed back at any time, to pack a lunch and sit in any part of the beautiful waterfall areas and enjoy. I cannot recommend the Palms, and its warm hearted staff, strongly enough. read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS VENUE!!! If I could rate 0 stars I would. They are highly unprofessional. I booked a tour and consultation for a 3pm appointment as a potential wedding venue. We were sent reminders and confirmations through text and email. We drove all the way from Sacramento (2+ hours away) and arrived 20 mins early, stayed 15 mins past our scheduled appointment time only to be disappointed with no one at the venue site and no one answering the phone number listed at the gate. My fiancé and I called multiple times when we arrived, he left a message and they didn't even have the decency to call back. However, when one of our bridesmaids called on behalf of us, she got a response 30 mins later saying that if we wanted to wait 1-1.5hr for someone to come and give us a tour when we had already left the venue, which would've been 2.5 hours of our scheduled time. On top of that, they didn't even call me who booked the appointment in the first place! Do yourself a favor save your money and take your business elsewhere. They don't respect their clients time AT ALL! If they can't make a venue tour on time imagine what will happen your wedding day. read more

A gentlemen answered the phone at 11:40 and provided us the pass code - & reported his daughter was doing a tour. We waited until 12:25 called multiple times and our calls were all forwarded. I don't understand how anyone goes to this venue when communication is a disgrace. What a waste of time and a damper on our exciting wedding planning. & honestly not that beautiful - unless you are doing a tropical theme. This place is absolutely visually stunning... And that is all that is good about it. After a year-and-a-half long engagement, my now-husband and I were so excited to be married, and this venue was actually able to take away from our day so severely that this review needs to be written. First, they are incredibly unresponsive unless they need your money. On our wedding day, the woman, Lauri, that we communicated with over the course of the planning process was nowhere to be found and instead her husband, John (I assume, because we were not actually introduced) was running around wreaking havoc, making changes to our plans and not once asking if it was what we wanted. We had never met this man before. Just a few examples from our wedding day: Would not allow the DJ to do his job; turned on the disco ball, crazy flashing lights and fog, although we had specifically asked our DJ not to do these things (which should have been no problem because our DJ knew our wishes), and did not ask our DJ or us if it would be okay. Our DJ then had to track us down, ask if we had changed our minds, and go back and turn everything off. It still looked like a strip club for about 20 minutes until our DJ could straighten it out. Ate our food (!!) at the buffet, right along with our guests. Did not ask us, nor would he have been invited to. Just walked right up and helped himself to a nice big plate. Ran around amongst our guests, not allowing our vendors to do their jobs as they would like, and caused many a headache for them. He did this all while dressed completely unprofessionally, and interrupting both the flow and feel of our day as well as creating an undesirable atmosphere. Although clearly stated in the contract and reiterated multiple times by the 'wife owner' that they were responsible for both take-down and clean up after the event, and that they would gather our items in the corner of the building where we could retrieve them in the morning, we were made to stop as we were leaving with our families and wedding party to go back in to take-down and clean up the venue. He stated that they would only clean the bathrooms and sweep the floor. Anything at all left overnight would become 'their property'. Yes, I did this in my wedding dress- ironic because the wife specifically stated that they do all the clean up and take-down because she 'hates to see brides cleaning in their wedding dresses.' We can all make our own choices, but I highly recommend considering this review before booking this venue. They are completely unprofessional, overbearing, and overpriced for what they (don't) provide. Our wedding day would have been perfection if not for this man and his invisible wife. We've since heard from other vendors and other former clients of this venue that this is in fact an accurate depiction of how they do business. Please be aware before booking with this venue and ending up extremely disappointed in their unacceptable practices and treatment of its clients. We are happily married, and that is what truly matters, but unfortunately we cannot take away the memories of our experience with this venue. read more

I went out recently for a wedding for my niece. The place was stunning, from the parking lot, to the grounds to the facility, all stunning and clean. The service was great, bride was happy. I was with my niece the day she toured the Palms. I can tell you they have a large kitchen and refrigeration. I read a previous review that is highly inaccurate, and rude in my opinion. I can not imagine that a bride and a groom invite you to their special day and someone like Betty W. takes the time to post for the world what was wrong with it? After reading her review the issues she raise are more with the cater and the wedding planner, not with the venue. I was with my niece when she and Lauri were talking about thinks like caters, bartenders, planners etc. They are all hired outside of the venue. When you rent the place you need to hire those folks, if they fail as apparently this person believes they did do you blame the venue? I am going back out for another wedding shortly and can't wait. read more

Beautiful place for our wedding...the grounds are just gorgeous. Inside is luxurious...doesn't take much to dress up a wedding at a place like this! Staff 2as awesome....no clean up on our part...everything was taken care of...they put our vases and decor to the side and we packed it in the car. No muss no fuss...between their staff and Hunter Drake catering' staff...we had virtually no clean up duties. She has a reasonably priced photo booth that you can rent and at the end of the night they give u a book of everyone's photos! So fun! Worth every penny! read more

We are so thankful to John and Lauri (the owners) for everything! Lori was such a pleasure to work with threw the process of my planning! She was always around and available to help with questions about anything to do with planning! John was so much fun the day of the wedding. He was very helpful the day before and the day of. Not only are the owners awesome to work with but also the venue is absolutely beautiful! My husband grew up in Hawaii and the second we walked in we just knew this was the right place for us! Attended a friends wedding here I had also attended another friends wedding two years ago and it's now under new ownership. The venue is a little bit in better condition and has some upgrades. They have an amazing in-house DJ with lighting effects and amazing sound and even though the event was nine hours long and it honestly flew by between all the activities and walking around and enjoying the venue. Lauri and John are awesome! They went above and beyond to make our daughter's wedding beautiful and stress free. We had a November wedding and although the grounds were already amazing, they planted purple flowers in various spots where the landscape had begun to go dormant. They choose purple because they knew it was one of her wedding colors!!! It was amazing! Best day ever and all of our guests were just in awe. As a bride that got married here I can attest that this venue is great! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and everything is so well thought out for weddings. Everything is so beautifully landscaped, it's like walking into a little oasis. The indoor reception area is awesome and the air conditioning is much appreciated by all during the hot summer Chico months. Also, it's great that they have really nice rooms for both the bride and groom to get ready in. This place really has it all. Both John and Lauri were great to work with. My husband and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary at The Palms. Even in winter this place was perfect. The great room was decorated like a beautiful club with ample stage space for our ten member band, a great sound system, and a huge dance floor where the whole crowd had a blast. Lauri and John were easily to work with and even let us use the space multiple times to practice our elaborately choreographed anniversary tango. John played DJ during band breaks, filling special requests from the crowd, and had both subtle beautiful lighting as well as fun late night disco effects. Everyone had a wonderful time. I agree this location and the surroundings are visually stunning. I attended a wedding reception here and after enjoying the initial look as we arrived, the experience proceeded to go downhill as far as the service and accommodation level. Of course the event itself was fine, but if I were paying for this reception, I would have not only been seriously disappointed, but angry at what I got for my money. The selling point appears to be all on the look of the grounds. First, we arrived after the time of the reception scheduled start, so everything should have been set up. There were no appetizers out, even thought the first two hours were supposed to be appetizers and drinks, followed by dinner. There was coffee out, but no cream or stirrers or utensils. When I asked the partially absent bartender about it, he said he would check, then said they didn't have any. When the appetizers were up out, there was a big bowl of cold pesto pasta with no serving utensils! Those were the first signs to me of sub-par service. Also, the overhead lights in the room (a large, open room with high ceilings) were set way too low the entire evening, even though the event started while it was light out and proceeded until well after dark. The lights were too dim even when it was light up, and no one seemed to be in charge, the same with it being consistently too cold in the room, and when asked, the very scattered staff person said they would turn it up, but that never happened. However, all of that might be overlooked if it were not for the dinner. There were 3 entrees to choose from, selected ahead of time. All the food, for everyone, arrived cold. When I asked the server, she disclosed that "oh, that is the issue with this place. We (the servers) didn't even know and most people don't, that this place doesn't have a kitchen or anywhere to heat up food." ??????? This is a wedding venue that has caterers serving food with no kitchen facilities? That means when things run late as this event did, that the caterer could only keep the food warm so long, then no facilities to heat, store or even refrigerate foods that might spoil? Perhaps is is common, it just seemed odd and cheap to me. Meaning, the appearance of the place and the selling points on the website make it look like a luxury accommodation, yet indeed, it smacks of appearances only, with the staffing and behind the scenes not supporting the cost. Just my impression, I am picky that way. read more

It's been a couple of years but I have to write this review as I want to prevent others from suffering needless wedding stress and possibly even cancellations from this horrendous business! My fiance and I began looking at wedding sites in May. By July we had identified the Palms and were eager to book the site. We had one question for Laurie (the wife half of the owners)...can we just use the outdoor area (as we were getting married in a church and wanted an outdoor reception)? Laurie stated she would talk it over with her husband and let us know. They agreed to it and agreed to a lower price because we would not be using the indoor facilities (with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms). We signed the contract in July and paid our 1st deposit. We left with a bottle of champagne and excited to have our wedding there the following June. I mailed our second deposit check in Oct. (as scheduled). I had not heard from Laurie again but assumed that all was well since we had signed the contract and paid the 1st part of the deposit. In January I paid left a message because the 2nd check had not been cashed. I still never heard back. In early February I received a letter from Laurie stating that they had made a mistake and double booked our wedding date! Suddenly, per her letter, our June 14th date was no longer available to us because we were the 2nd couple to book. I was quite suspicious and upset over this (obviously...my wedding was in 4 months). I spent many phone calls trying to figure out how this could happen and was eventually sent my deposit money back with nothing but an "oops, we are sorry for the mix up". I scrambled and found Tuscan Ridge golf course who was willing to work with us on fairly short notice. In the meantime my fiance and I were participating in pre-marriage classes through our church when we met another couple who had looked into the Palms as an option. Interesting enough, their wedding was also scheduled for June 14th and as of SEPTEMBER they were told that it was still available for that date! I 100% believe that the greedy and unprofessional owners of this beautiful venue had a couple come along who was interested in both indoor and outdoor areas and were going to pay full price and we got bumped because of it. I vowed to take them to small claims court and did contact the BBB but I just want to continue warning people! Do NOT put your wedding in these peoples hands! By the way...because of unexpected natural disasters (wildfire) we were not able to have our wedding reception at Tuscan Ridge either. With two days to spare we found Gail at Skylake Gardens who was just starting the wedding business. She saved our day and I truly believe she has the MOST BEAUTIFUL venue site in all of Chico! Looking for a venue? Check them out! I believe her prices are comparable to the Palms, she is far more professional and honestly, her site is stunning! read more

In house DJ was a let down, but overall great venue. The AC held strong in the 106 degree heat. Staff was generally great although I'm not sure why someone who works there would wear a white dress to someone else's wedding or booty shorts on the golf cart driver. You know who you are and need the fashion police. 2 cousins got married here over the years and it's been great each time. The food was really good and people went back for seconds, thirds. Still hot. the bartenders were friendly and cheerful and even let me cut in line to get ice when someone wasn't feeling well. Beautiful grounds. I haven't dealt with the place except as a guest, but our family isn't the kind to accept anything but great service and a great experience. I think 2 sisters getting married a few years apart at the same place says a lot. I just think a bride should bring a specific play list so they don't clear a dance floor. read more

This venue made my June 24th wedding more beautiful than I could ever have imagined! As a super busy bride (is there any other kind??) I really appreciated detailed reviews as opposed to just "I liked this," so I'll be as descriptive as possible. First off, both of the owners, Lauri and John, are very dedicated. Their kindness and sense of humor made us feel special and important all the way through the planning process and helped us consider things we hadn't even thought of yet, like making sure water was available outside and where to get the best shots. They're the kind of people you work with in a business sense and walk away hoping to be friends with forever. BEAUTIFUL LOCATION: The grounds were breathtaking, with a tropical paradise oasis feel outside and a classy ballroom with draped walls and elegant lighting inside. We were drawn by the incredible photo opportunities, with the flowers and the lily ponds and the bridges, it looked like another world. Decorating the outside would have been completely unnecessary. We got comments all night long about how amazing and transporting the gardens were. The waterfalls and tiki torches were unlike anything. My guests liked it so much they spent time taking photos of scenery itself, like the butterflies and dragonflies. We visited nearly every venue in the Chico area while trying to decide, but we knew the second we walked up that nothing would compare. EXTRA TOUCHES: The photo booth (which also lets each guest record a video message!) they offer was a big hit, and in fact I'm still getting calls about how crazy it got. It's pretty wild to see pictures of older relatives in feather boas and fedoras with Groucho glasses! Because it prints out two sets for each strip, we used the picture strips as our guest book, which was unique and adorable. All the pics are online automatically (you can password protect if you want) so all the people can see everyone else's strips! Being that it was Chico in June, we were worried about mosquitos, but there are big koi ponds throughout the grounds full of mosquito-eating fish so we didn't see a mosquito the whole night. We also liked that because it is away from downtown the parking lots are huge, way more space than I can imagine needing. By the end of the night I was totally exhausted, so it was great that your only job is to take your stuff and leave, they take care of all the trash and clean up and everything for free, you have nothing to worry about at all. EASY TO BUDGET: The venue does cost more than your local church, but I was impressed that once you paid the base fee there were NO extra charges, no charges for cleaning anything or moving anything or helping you at the last minute or parking or forced gratuity or ANY other surprises. The quoted price is actually THE price and that's it. I learned quickly that many venues have a whole list of extras they don't tell you about like 'usage' or parking fees. We added on a photo booth and a DJ (both way cheaper through the venue than we found on our own), which were the only other charges we paid. We liked that they knew all the vendors in town and could give us details, but never sounded pushy or personally invested in their recommendations like some other venues did. Some of the venues we went to (including our runner-up choice, which was also very pretty) made you agree to their expensive caterer or their photographer or their DJ, which made me feel limited and potentially ripped off, but the Palms had no requirement that you go through any certain vendor for ANYTHING. Like most brides, I had to be conscious of my budget, and the big discount the Palms offers for Friday weddings helped us splurge in other areas. I was worried at first about a Friday wedding, but everyone liked it and it made my guests able to make a weekend out of it by visiting the casinos and having a big barbeque because they had all weekend to recover. The venue also saved us money because they have all the tables and chairs you could need included in the venue price so you don't have to go out and rent them or worry about getting them back on time. There is a beautifully carved bar and the floors are made of pretty stone so there is no need to rent a dance floor either. The one problem I can think of was that there were times when I wish they had gotten back to us more quickly when we had questions, and that was frustrating but then we weren't always punctual ourselves. This was definitely something that needs improvement, but it was the only complaint we had. All in all I still couldn't have been more thrilled with how caring the staff was and how gorgeous the grounds were. We are fans for life, and we'll be telling every couple we meet to at least visit, because they won't be able to look away once they do! read more

This facility far exceeded our expectations... We had several guests comment on how nice the venue was, and how surprised they were that a venue of this caliber was in Chico. They have the most amazing palm trees and waterfalls, you have to see them in person to appreciate. The owner (John) was extremely helpful, and went out of his way to help with several small problems we ran into (not his fault...ours.) The lighting and sound for the reception, was on par with any other high end venue. The Palms Venue in Chico, CA is Amazing!! We got Married May 2, 2014 Jim and I had such a great experience with both Laurie & John (Owners), both of them provided beyond excellent services to us on our Wedding day. After everything was set up we couldn't believe how ornate the facility actually is. The tropical surroundings are amazing. Even the chandeliers resemble a beautiful jelly fish in the sea. We want to thank both Laurie and John once again for saving our Wedding cake and catered left overs that we didn't have room to take the night of. Going back to the venue the morning after and finding out you saved the cake so saved the day, now we have our special cake because you and your staff chose to take the time to care and save it instead of throwing it away. From the initial beginning of the planning stages, Laurie was there and the day of the wedding just incredibly helpful. and John behind the scenes we never even really got to see him, but he was outstanding with making sure everything was just perfect. We can't thank you both enough for all you do and all you did and creating this lovely venue so people like us will have a memory of a life time!!! Thank you, we wish you the best ever! Unfortunately, I have to say I agree with everything that Whitney posted. I say unfortunately only because this was supposed the be one of the most special days of my life in this beautiful pavilion. The place is fascinating and their gardens are beautiful. It seems to be the same routine for the owner's husband because he did exactly the same thing at my wedding. He was right next to the DJ the whole time and kept on telling him to turn down the music. He was such a pest. I felt so bad for our DJ who happened to be my sister in-laws' brother. This was so horrible and I was so upset because the list of songs that I had carefully selected for my special day, were played and it was so low that we could barely hear. He was so ridiculously obnoxious. He kept on saying "when is this wedding going to be over" why would you stay there the whole time if you were not needed. Your "DJ" services were not requested and believe and if I didn't have a DJ at the last minute I would have rather put some CDS on a CD player rather than having this rude person play at my wedding. Everything that came out of his mouth was so negative. It was very unpleasant for my guest and especially for my husband and I. We booked this place well over a year in advance as well and I wish I would have gone with someone else! I do not recommend this place to have any special event. The service that was provided was inappropriate. This place is expensive $$$$ and we paid our dues in time. No issues so that we can have the wedding of our dreams. Well it didn't quite happen as we would have liked. I didn't get to enjoy my wedding party because I was so stressed out over the owner's husband and his issues that I was all over the place. It was to the point where I wanted it to be over. It was so embarrassing. The band got there a bit after 6 and this guy again started his load of bs (pardon my language but it was). He called for my husband and said that if they didn't lower their music they were going to be asked to leave and we would only stay with our DJ. Are you kidding me? I mean we might as well just put duck tape on our mouths and not talk right because the levels of sound were too high? Come on we can barely hear the songs the DJ was playing. This is an even, there is supposed to be noise. How else can you celebrate? If you're going to be so picky then why even have this available. I hope your rules change otherwise I feel really sorry for the next people that pay big bucks for poor very poor service. I wish the owner had been there and maybe she would have been more open-minded because her husband obviously wasn't. Maybe you can hire someone who knows about weddings and what goes on during the reception. On your wedding, you should have the time of your life and be happy with your new wife/husband and share every special moment with your friends and family. Not to be worried about every little detail and be scared to be kicked out of the reception because of ridiculous things. Lori was great except till a few days before the wedding when she stressed me out over something that could have been handled earlier in time if there were a bit more organized with their clients files. I was very disappointed. My wife and got married here and we both loved it. The prices are a bit high but then again I seemed to be saying that about the whole wedding process. The venue itself is quite a site. Made for some AMAZING wedding photos. The couple that ran it did a good job. Yes the husband was there the whole time the day of but I can't say he made himself a nuisance. In fact he pretty much sat in a corner with the DJ the whole time. Our DJ had no issues that I was ever aware of and none of our guests or vendors ever said anything. The communication was excellent the whole time from beginning to end. They even let us do our rehearsal at the place. They had more then enough chairs and tables for us to set up. You will be responsible for cleaning up whatever it is you want to take with you. Anything you leave is theirs. The main reason I couldn't give them a 5th star was because their kitchen does not have an oven. I know they are expensive but a nice venue like this should have an oven. this place is the best that northern Ca has to offer. i was married 4 years ago there and just went back there to say hi to everyone and wow! it looks 10x better, they put so much back into the place. the owners helped us out so much and today they were still helpful on planning our anniversary party. i would not go any where else. this is the place to be married, and they can prove it. read more
