This is my second time at the salon and my rating is on the tech not the salon. The first time was a pedi with Traci and it was great and my polish lasted without chipping all the way until I took it off. This time I called for an appt on Fri and was told they could fit me in the next day. Kiki was supposed to be my tech but she was running behind. So instead of making me wait she gave me to Charlotte. She did my pedi and that seemed to be fine. Then we started the mani. I brought my own polish because I was trying to match an outfit and I wanted to make sure if I needed a touch up I would have the polish. I asked if she had a gel coat of sorts so that the polish would last longer. She said yes but didn't tell me it would cost extra. After the mani, polish and gel top coat, I asked if I was dry since I had to drive home. She said as long as I didn't bang into anything I should be fine. I was very careful but by the end of the night (which the nails should have been dry already especially with the gel top coat) I had 2 nails that were damaged already. I went to bed and in the morning notice that my left thumb looked like the polish slid to one side and was now hanging off. I sent a text to the tech with pictures explaining how they looked. She said she couldn't get back into the salon to fix them before Wed. I said that I had no time in my schedule to come get them fixed (I am in from out of state and have a booked week). She said "I'm sorry that your schedule won't allow you to come get them fixed" and left it at that. I asked if her giving me a partial refund would be possible and I never heard from her. That is not very good customer service. I can't say that I won't go back because there are so few non-Asian salons these days(which I refuse to go to) and I like the salon but I will not have my nails done by this tech again. I'm giving two stars because I called on a Saturday for a last minute appointment and they did accommodate me. I came in to get a full set and pedicure. The pedicure was fine, no issues there. The full set is the problem. I have had many full sets usually never have an issue. This time I walked out of the salon at 11am, by 2 pm my index finger had chipped. Like the other reviewers here, I wanted to give a stellar review. Any time I see a black owned business, especially in Chicago, I get really excited. I want it to be amazing and successful. This nail shop is clearly successful, not so sure about the amazing. My mother and I were in need to some nail TLC so we yelped this place as we live nearby. Parked on the street (which is free for 2 hours) and was able to find the storefront easily. We stood inside for 3-4 minutes before anyone noticed us which to me is minimal as there was no receptionist. Once greeted by a very lively gentleman, we were immediately shuttled to our nail stations. I confirmed what I stated on the phone (I too was told that I said something and was later corrected about. Maybe mani-pedi is confusing?) and they got started immediately. The service was quick and easy. I felt that my nail specialist was a little short with me. Maybe she thought I was young or something...I don't know but her tone could use some improvement. Anyway, I got a full acrylic set which looked fine. She made sure the paint was event and coated my hands several times with oils and some other things. She also did my pedicure which I was also pleased with. All in all, the pricing wasn't bad (~$60 for both of us). The problem arose when I got home. Not one week after I received this service did my nails start chipping, cracking, and popping off. I don't get my nails done often but I know that one week, unless you work on a construction site, is not reasonable for nails to start breaking. I've never had this happen with any other nail shops and I get my nails very low just in case. Even the length didn't save me. So, here I am, 2 weeks later, with not a nail in sight. I have removed and repainted my hands and feet. Perhaps it's their technique or something but I just can't get behind that sort of quality for almost $100. read more

I came here to get my birthday nails done after the original nail place I wanted to go to was booked solid. Short wait for nail tech which was good and the nail tech (didn't catch her name but older woman who had a name chain on that said Kiana/Qiana or some such) was nice but my experience just was not good at all. I wanted some gaudy coffin shaped nails with rhinestones and a design. An hour and 30 minutes later I left with a broken pinky nail and no design or color at all. She kept adding acrylic and then I'm presuming, filing it all off again so she had to add more. At the hour and 10 minute mark, 2 of the nails she did broke. She fixed one of the nails and brought another woman over to come look who told her she didn't put enough acrylic on. She said she wanted to re-do 4 fingers on my left hand as well. I had pushed another appointment back twice because it was taking so long and I couldn't wait any longer so I paid her $30 (full set minus one nail, no color no design) and left. The place I went to that tried to fixed my nails told me that there was so much acrylic missing on my nails that they couldn't ensure the longevity. They had to reshape my nails also. My nail beds were in so much pain from being filed and refiled over and over again. I noticed large patches of acrylic missing and sure enough, two days later another 3 nails broke. An hour and 30 minutes and $30 for 4 total broken nails, 2 of which broke while I was in her chair. It should not have taken anywhere near that long to apply and shape a full set and I do not appreciate being given an inexperienced nail technician and not being informed that she was inexperienced. I really wanted to give an amazing review because the energy in this shop is SO beautiful: It reminds me of "home." Everyone is friendly, its clear the staff is supportive of one another, the owner seems to be an ethical woman committed to creating space for employees to grow and blossom. There is NO rush to get you in and out and people take their time with your nails. I love the energy of this establishment and if my nails and a couple of other details had been done better, I would be writing a GLOWING review. My nails were initially wonderful. My tech did a beautiful design ( which is what I came to them for) and I found her to be very friendly and attentive to detail. Two days later, two of my fingers were peeling up; I had the no-chip, so this absolutely should not have happened. Additionally, my nails were thinned too much and 5 of them broke. Now, if I was talking about some nail tips, I would not be hurt: I would simply get them added again and keep it moving. Sadly, I wear my real nails with a gel overlay, so I am having to get my nails cut down and am loosing the progress I made in growth. Mind you, prior to this, I have not broken a nail in about 3 years, so its not that I am unduly rough. Additionally, I really think some work needs to be done wth minor things like using new towels or at least the clean side of towel for filing and working with each client. I personally, don't think its professional to have a used/dirty towel down. Another is, having nail brushes and such cleaned continually/during the process of doing nails. I was looking at a jar full of nail brushes that had paint on them from previous clients. This may be how I keep my personal stash of nail supplies, but it is not how I expect to see a professional nail salon keep theirs. So, I would say that the ethics and care of this establishment is excellent, but for me, there were things that were left to be desired. read more

I explained that I just found them on Yelp and nothing was stated there. I explained that I received Groupon as gift and wanted to make an appointment and my previous call to other number. She told me the number listed is coming up as AON so that's why calls was not answer. I told her this is my work number and that my previous attempts I called from my cell and still no answer. With her nasty attitude she stated again I'm just telling you why your calls was not answered. I stated not sure why that matters but back to my point for calling was to make an appointment. This was one of the worst customer experiences of my life. I recently moved to the west side so I wanted to find a salon that I could frequent regularly that was fairly close. I turned to Groupon and found a deal for this establishment offering a $90 value short acrylic full set and pedicure combo for only $27. Perfect since they're only a 10 minute drive or rideshare away. They are appointment only so I called and set up for a Friday evening ahead of a major stage appearance. Unfortunately, I got stuck in traffic coming from a downtown meeting and ran 15 minutes late. Upon my arrival, I was notified that the nail tech scheduled to see me had already left for the day since I would have been her last client and she thought I'd be a no show/no call. I thought it interesting that there was less than a 15-minute grace period but ok, no biggie, I'll take the 'L' for being late. I asked if there was any way I could be accommodated over the weekend and was told to come back first thing in the morning and I would get squeezed in. I was assured I would have maybe an hour wait tops. Well, I went in Saturday morning and there were already 2 clients being seen by the two techs. I had another appointment within 3 hours but since I was assured I'd be seen within an hour and no one else was waiting, I was confident that I could get my services and be out. 2 hours later, the techs were nowhere near finished with the first 2 clients so I had to leave and ended up going to Walgreens across the street for some press on nails. That was a few months ago. Fast forward to yesterday. I have a photoshoot this afternoon so I scheduled myself an entire day of beauty with my stop at the Pamper Room being 3rd on the list. I scheduled the appointment a week in advance, informed them over the phone that I had their Groupon, and reminded that I was the customer who had tried to visit twice before. So I get there all excited because my hair stylist had told me that she knew the owner, Traci, and that she did bomb massages during the pedicure. I rarely treat myself to beauty services so I was really looking forward to this. I get there and the tech who greeted me told me that she could not honor my Groupon because it wasn't fully paid for. At this point, I'm confused because what do you mean? Groupons fully cover the services outlined in the deal unless otherwise noted about additional costs for add-ons. I was only asking for the service I purchased. This tech tells me that she was the one who set up the campaign and that it was a mistake. She said that I should know better than to think I could get that type of service for that low of price. So now I'm shocked and insulted because I'm not stupid and that's exactly how Groupon works! Businesses offer a deeply discounted product or service through Groupon to attract new customers in the hopes that they become repeat, long-term clients. As a business owner myself, I attempted to explain this to the tech and insisted that my Groupon be honored. She said that she would only do the manicure part or I could request my money back from Groupon. She was adamant in not honoring the deal she admitted that she set up. This is a complete bait and switch and is ILLEGAL! Small businesses need to understand how they set themselves up for legal liabilities when they don't honor the terms and conditions they themselves put out there. You can't decide that you don't like how things are working out for you and then change up on the fly after you have signed a contract. This absolutely goes against even Groupon's terms and conditions for partner businesses. This also completely soured my day and caused me to have to scramble for an alternative to get my nails done ahead of my photoshoot this afternoon. I will never visit this establishment again and after seeing so many other concerning negative reviews about their lack of professionalism, I strongly caution against anyone else taking their business here either. read more

Okay, so where do I start? LOVE,LOVE, LOVE,everything about this place! It's awesome! The atmosphere, the service,the location and the employees! I came here after visiting one of their competitors just a few blocks down; not because they did a bad job on my nails, but because the customer service there was atrocious- it is just in my opinion, a poorly managed salon. I'm one that will pay extra for good customer service- fortunately at The Pamper Room top shelf customer service is standard! Anyway, from the initial contact with Bo who answered the phone when I called to make an appointment (btw... he had me at "THANK YOU for calling The Pamper Room) to Traci's terrific personality! She is funny,and really personable. Traci makes it a point to accommodate everyone. The adult music that she had queued up on her Pandora playlist and the adult conversation (meaning mature conversation- as in meaningful,not silly, gossipy or high-schoolish) made it total pampering experience. As for my nails... Bo is charming and did a great job to be so new in his career! I'll definitely be back! This is a nail shop, not a spa. Even if it says "spa" in the name, the word "nail" before it should sort of give the true nature of this establishment away. That said, it's a very warm, friendly, and casual environment. Compared to typical nail shops, I think it's a step above the rest (even based on the attitudes and character of the people who work there alone). I didn't go to have nails applied or fancy art work, so I can't speak to the quality of those things. I liked the pedicure better than those at your run of the mill nail shops, and the manicure was a thousand times better than my last experience at Wellcome [sic] Spa. Not only did he wow me with his amazing work but I appreciate the follow through regarding customer service satisfaction. His pedicures stand alone and an experience within itself. My feet always hurt because I work fulk time and full-time Nursing student- so I need that EXTRA massage and attention to my feet. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I was looking for a new shop, searched yelp & once I learned it was black-owned I was excited to give it a try. Upon entering I let them know I wanted a Pedicure( No chip) & fill-in for my colored acrylic. They asked B or BEAU to do my feet & he agreed. The pedicure was fine but took 2 hrs to complete which is not normal for me but I let him do his thing. The pedicure was good, no complaints over than sitting for so long. Nonetheless, I appreciated his work & then he proceeded to do my nails. Here's where I became extremely annoyed bc he was clearly an amateur at nails. I asked for a fill-in but they had no colored acrylic so he went w gel & could clearly see my old nail under the "new" fill. When does that ever happen?! Anyway after he stopped to think multiple times through each diff gel dip on how to cover up my old nail that was imprinted, I was over it. 3 hrs later but still no luck, I asked him would you leave the shop like this & he says "it's better right?" At this point I just asked him to put a color over it to cover up the nail. He even tried to separate the nail from my cuticles by pushing it back w his fingernails & filing all over my skin to clean things up but it was too late. I was beyond irritated. Lastly there were two other workers but no one stepped in to help him out when clearly he didn't know what he was doing. I really wanted to like this place. I went in for a pedi and a no chip mani. I was seen right away. The pedicure was going very well. The young lady scrub my feet well and shaped them well. She didn't give a foot massage but no big issue for me. When she put the polish on, it looked smeared. She instantly wiped the polish off a few toes then repainted and said she'll apply another coat after she do my nails. She had to soak the current no chip off which was a mess!!! She had me put my hands in a bowl of acetone. Then she would take my hands out, shave some of the no chip off then soak them again and repeat. I've never experienced this and was not satisfied! The no chip she applied was bubbling so she had to shave it off twice. My nails were getting thinner and thinner so I told her to skip the no chip and just use regular polish. It even looked awful! So she finally asked the owner to do it. The owner was cool. She reshaped my nails, which were now much shorter than when I came in, but I was pleased with the results. When it came to my feet, instead of redoing them, she painted over them!!! By the time she finished, I had 4-5 coats of polish on my feet. Awful! But by then I'd been there for hours and didn't want to go through the process all over again. Then one of my toes smudged due to the toe separator hitting the nail. She proceeded to fix it with her finger!!! I was done! She did however offer to give me a free mani on my next visit, which I think she should have just applied to my services while I was there. I really wanted to like this black owned and operated place but I will NEVER go back. I'm so disappointed. I had high hopes for this place. I would advise that if you have rookies in your shop, make sure they're fully trained! And if you see that the job was done wrong, don't attempt to fix it by going over the mistakes, just redo it. I really wanted to have great things to say... Decor is nice and the people who work in the shop are friendly and funny. I called about a no chip manicure/Shellac and was told the price. When I got to the shop a little later, I was told that I had said pedicure. I never get pedicures. It was later assumed while I was in the shop and had cleared that up that I had said regular manicure and not no chip. I had to correct this again. So finally, I got the no chip manicure. It chipped on multiple fingers the next day. I was shocked. I've done so many no chips in different states even and have NEVER had a chip the next day or even the first week. I went back for a fix, which they did. The nails started chipping again by the evening. I was astonished and will not go back. I don't work in manual labor, didn't scrub anything. Just regular hand usage. Furthermore, the type of design I needed required a regular color that everyone carries and apparently the shop owner had taken that color home and they searched for a back up. Someone found one. Also apparently the only person who knows how to do eyebrows was not there that day. For a spa, that's not a good look. So I guess I'll go elsewhere for eyebrows. When I wanted to check out, I was told that the shop owner was out and she was the one with the credit card processor. So I had to walk and get cash from a local store. It was really cold out, of course. So...That was just another irritant in a not so great experience. I won't be coming back. read more

The people are great but it took me 5 hours to get a full set which was at best was a 6/10 in appearance ... It's was decent price AT FIRST it was 45$ I broke three nails went to get them fixed for Halloween and he charged me 20$ for three nails that look nothing like the others and it took an hour and 15 min to put three new nails now that's a lil crazy lets just say I will not be going back which sucks cause it's a great atmosphere but if that's how you charge repeat clients by upcharging them on three simple nail fixes I'll def pass and take my business else where read more

I have three places within 2 blocks of my house but they seem dirty and are fine for a quick job but I wanted something nicer. Traci did my pedicure and I had the deluxe with the sugar scrub. If you are looking for a rude ignorant nail tech that will give you the service that a two year old can provide, look no further this is the shop for you. I have been getting pedicures forever and this by far was not a pedicure this was a Petty Cure! Tracie when she took about 10 sec. Per foot to remove the dead skin and tried to cover it up by throwing oil on my foot I pointed out to her all that was not done she became ignorant stating she had been doing services for 29 years became irate. I told her I no longer wanted to continue the service and she demanded I give her 10 dollars for cutting my toe nails and removing polish. I refused in which she started making threats as well as calling me out my name. Called the police after I told her Id give her 7 dollars but I refuse to pay her half when she hadnt even done half the service. Cops came and I didnt have to give her a dime. Service was completely unprofessional was in there speaking about there attempted robery for the day. Started calling me a prostitute because I use to live in Vegas speaking on my braces just pure GHETTO!!! Dont waste your time or money! My nails were done professionally. Very satisfied with the service. I was a walk-in on a Friday morning, I got instant service as it was only one person ahead of me soaking off her nails. The spa was clean, bright & beautiful. The owner did my nails, she was a sweetheart. As far as my nails, they look beautiful, the shape is stellar, the polishing is perfect. I've been looking for a nail shop close to my home with this type of service for quite some time now & glad I finally found one. I will be returning, soon! read more
