The service was a little slow at brunch even though it wasnt busy when we walked in but very friendly and attentive staff. When we left there was a huge line outside, waiting to get in. The food was very tasty and a lot based on what you ordered. I got the "luxury breakfast" which consisted of very delicious scrambled eggs,toast,salad,croissant ,prosecco ,orange juice . My wife had savory pancake with bacon, and cheese and was amazing. The prices were reasonable but remember Amsterdam is an expensive city. We will definitely go back this week.
No way. I'm sure this place used to be amazing at some point, but it definitely is not anymore. I strolled in on a Thursday at lunch and was seated immediately. The restaurant was probably 1/3 full. I couldn't get anyone to give me a menu for a solid 10 minutes. The good news is, I asked what their best item was, they took my order, and they brought it out quite quickly. That's where it went downhill again. Their indo pancake was SO SALTY. I love saltiness but this was extreme. I asked if they could make me another with less sauce. The thing was drenched in a premade, overly salty, sticky peanut sauce. The waiter returned and said, "no it's part of the sauce." "Right, but you could make it with much less sauce." "No." "Okayyy so I guess I'll keep eating around it?" "Yes." Welp, I ate the side veggies, waited another 15 minutes to get my check, watching waiters come and go, and vowed to never be back. What a waste of $24!

I'm so glad we stopped here before visiting the Anne Frank Huis. Food was excellent - we got the scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon, mushroom cheese omelet, banana Nutella crepe & Dutch crepe (pancake). The service was phenomenal. We were seated almost immediately, and multiple people came to check on us throughout the meal. The food came out quickly and was exactly as we ordered. It's got like a cool, old pizza parlor vibe. The tables are spacious and there are many. The lighting is soft and warm. The restrooms were clean. I'd definitely come back!
Restaurant with variety of pancakes and Dutch pancakes. Came here on a weekday for an early dinner and shared a Caprese pancake and poffertjes. The pancake was quite large and a good size to split between three people. Indoor and outdoor seating. Credit cards accepted. There are vegetarian options. Shoutout to our waiter Rein was so funny and personable. We had a chill time eating here and would recommend this spot if you're looking for a place that has pancakes to share.
If you are looking to try some traditional Dutch pancakes in Amsterdam, this is the place to go! I got a pancake with apple, cinnamon ice cream, cinnamon liquor, and whipped cream (€17) - I mean, how could that combo not be delicious! The most unique part of the pancake is that it was huge and flatter than "normal" pancakes and the topping were pretty special as well. I especially liked how the apples were infused within the pancake and the cinnamon flavor along with the coldness of the ice cream perfectly complemented the warm pancake. Plus, the portion size made it worth the price. As a bonus, the fresh orange juice (€6) was very good too. The restaurant is conveniently located right next to the Jordaan area, right next to a canal. It has both the nice canal-side vibe as well as a more homey interior which is decorated with historic Dutch decor and photographs. The staff are very friendly and the service speed is quick. Overall, with a wide selection of tasty Dutch pancakes and a nice environment, The Pancake Bakery earns 5 stars from me!
I came here due to the great reviews and wanting to try Dutch pancakes while in Amsterdam. However, the experience and food felt mediocre. We ordered the Dutch pancakes and Caprese pancake which had pesto sauce, tomato, and basil. I chose the Caprese pancake because I love the ingredients, but it was extremely salty and I could barely finish half of it. The Dutch pancake tasted better, but it was nothing special other than the mini stroopwaffles on it. The restaurant was not full, but the staff was rushing us to order and asking multiple times whether we needed anything else when we just wanted to sit a bit longer. I felt like this was unusual for Europe, after our trip in Paris. As a result, we didn't end up staying for long. To top it off, the waiter informed us of the 3 tip options on the card machine. After, they asked us "which option we would like to pick" so they could press it on the machine for us. I understand treating the staff for service, but didn't appreciate how they basically forced the tips on us. I would like the option to choose for myself based on our experience. Service was quite abrupt, and they didn't go above and beyond other than coming to take our order. Overall, it was quite a miss and I don't understand the hype if you've had similar crepes or pancakes elsewhere.
All of my friends back home said the one food I need to try in Amsterdam was poffertjes. This was my first time trying them and they did not let me down! Sure they are basically mini pancakes, but the way each one is the perfect bite with the perfect amount of toppings and flavors mixed together makes it so good. And idk what's in the Dutch syrup, but that stuff is addicting! To top it all off, this place is right along the water so you can enjoy the boats passing by and everything. Life doesn't get much better than that!
This was a must-go on my Amsterdam food list and was so glad we were able to make it. Their pancakes were phenomenal and I can't recommend this place enough if you're in Amsterdam! Between my husband and myself, we tried a sweet and a savory pancake. For the sweet pancake, we had the peach with cherry liquor, ice cream, and whipped cream. The light cinnamon sprinkled across the whole thing tied everything together. The pancake wasn't overpoweringly sweet, but the vanilla ice cream was a great touch to complete this dish. For our savory pancake, we went with the chicken with cheese and mushroom. Oh my, this was my FAVORITE. At first sight, it looked a bit plain since it was pretty flat compared with our sweet pancake but looks can be deceiving. This pancake was perfect with the slightly crispy edges, cheesy center, and chicken laced throughout. I couldn't get enough of this dish!
As an American, I was definitely fooled by the name thinking that I would come in for some hearty, fluffy pancakes with all the fixings. But I am glad I was wrong because these turned out to be some pretty delicious crepes we ate right as we entered Amsterdam. We knew that we had to try the poffertjes here in Amsterdam since they were the quintessential wonder sweets appropriate for any age. We ordered two batches- one with powdered sugar and another with chocolate. Man oh man these were hot and delicious, and oh so scrumptious. The chocolate was the true winner here. Four our main dish, we decided to split a savory pancake and got the Thai one. It turned out to be one big curry chicken Thai wrap in the shape of a crepe. There were some great flavors but the crepe felt far too thin for my enjoyment. Nonetheless, it was filling and a treat to try some more Asian flavors in Amsterdam. Our servers were great and really friendly despite serving a ton of customers at the same time. The Pancake Bakery is an amazing pancake house in Amsterdam. We waited in line for about 20 minutes around lunch time, and when we were finally seated, we realized that the restaurant was huge and they had a lot of simultaneous diners. We ordered the Indonesian and Dutch pancakes, both of which were delicious in their own way. The Indonesian pancake was savory and had a prominent peanut-y taste that was very unique. The Dutch pancake was sweet and the ice cream complimented the pancake well. I would check out The Pancake Bakery if you are in Amsterdam. It was delicious, cheap, and filling! read more
This local bistro is located beside the Anne Frank House which is optimal if you need a chair to sit on and tea to sip while you are waiting to enter the museum. My son picked the apple crumble pancake while I drank ginger lemon hot tea. Both hit the spot and provided a reprieve to the hot sun. Note : bathrooms here are clean and cost 50 cents for customers and non-customers. Also, there are picnic tables for outside dining. read more

you can get a lot of choices, and the menus describe every ingredient clearly, i ordered a dutch pancake which is very traditional flavor and you never miss. and the second recommendation would be the traditional pancake, i ordered the cheese and ginger for a risk, however it's super tasty, i would be regretting if didn't order read more

I went here when visiting Amsterdam prior to the pandemic. This is a great spot to visit right after the Anne Frank house (which is my top recommendation overall in Amsterdam). If you go there early, you will probably be seated right away, but be prepared for a wait at busier times. One thing I wish I knew was truly how massive the pancakes are - you can easily split one with a friend, instead of everyone getting their own. I thought the menu was really cool and creative. The food is good, not necessarily the best meal I've had (hence the 4 stars) but I am glad I went here. read more
While in Amsterdam a friend told me I needed to check out The Pancake Bakery and boy am I glad I did. One of the employees at our hotel said there tends to be a long wait at this establishment so my friend and I were surprised to see that there was no line when we showed up on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30pm. From the outside looking in The Pancake Bakery looks like a small restaurant, but once you go inside you realize that it's rather big inside, extending far back and to the right. We were seated within 3 minutes of walking inside by a friendly waitress who made sure that we were well taken care of. The menu is lengthy with savory and sweet options to choose from. There were so many options that I wanted to try, but in the end I settled on the pancake with bacon, cheese and mushroom while my friend built his own omelette. We both loved our food! This place was recommended to me by a friend so I definitely wanted to check it out. I came on a Monday around noon because I've read how busy they get. I was seated right away although I did have to share a table with another party of two. I ordered the bacon, cheese, and mushrooms pancake because I wanted something savory. It's a pricey pancake but it is a huge portion! I could only eat 40% of it there; I packed the rest for dinner. The pancake tasted really good. It had a really good crepe consistency. I wish I got to try a sweet pancake because those looked amazing but there was no way I could get two giant pancakes by myself. As a side note, the staff seemed really disorganized. I saw multiple tables complain about not getting part of their orders and they barely paid attention to any of the tables. One of the waiters did mention something about being understaffed but that doesn't really discount some of their rude attitudes. read more

A big tourist destination as it is very close to the Anne Frank Huis and features a must eat when in Amsterdam favorite- dutch pancakes! There was a line when we arrived but small parties are able to share tables if you are willing. We each ordered coffees and decided to do one sweet, Nutella and Banana and one savory pancake, Bacon and Apple. Both were warm, satisfying and very filling! For being as busy as they are they allow you time to sit and enjoy your meal. A great stop on your travels! read more

Gluten free food was a definite must. I ordered the Poffertjes and they were amazing. I don't even like pancakes usually but these were the perfect size to get the nice brown edges of butter. This place is a must on your trip to Amsterdam. read more
My husband and I and some friends were in the mood for some good pancakes and this place certainly did not disappoint! I had regular pancakes with eggs on the side and my husband had pancakes with apples which was also yummy!! Didn't even need syrup tbh!! read more

Tourist prices, but wasn't as gouged as I was at the upstairs place Bourdain and Myers turned even MORE into a tourist attraction! Thing is, the food was soooooo excellent here. We 4 must have eaten in silence for like 5 minutes....fork to mouth, fork to plate, back to mouth. Breath. Delicious good life. Opted to wait for a canal table. About :15. The beers were yummy and so satisfying. If I weren't about to embark on an hours ride on bike covering the bulk of the city, would have unflinchingly ordered a second! Way to go! read more
Wow! A little pricey 15 euro/ 1 pancake but the best and biggest pancake I have had in my life! They have savory and sweet. We tried one of each. We had a bacon, apple and cheese pancake and "the Hawaiian" pancake which was bananas, pineapple, some kind of rum sauce, Tahitian vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The Hawaiian pancake was the best pancake ever!!! Fruit was caramelized percectly. Also they had some pretty great, strong coffee! So smooth and not at all bitter. I'm picky with my coffee and they passed the coffee test! Would come here every week if I lived here. read more

The Pancake Bakery has quite an extensive menu of sweet & savory Dutch pancakes, breakfast items, lunch and poffertjes. You'll find it located right next to one of the canals in the northwestern central area of Amsterdam. The restaurant is a lot bigger inside than it looks from outside, they have two dining areas connected together. The atmosphere inside was nice, had a cozy feeling to it. This was my first place ordering a pancake in Amsterdam, I didn't quite understand the size of these things, but they're huge! It's hard to describe the batter that the Dutch use, but it isn't overly sweet and has a slight sour over taste to it. Received great service here from my waitress, she understood English somewhat, there was a bit of a language barrier there but she got my order correct and was very polite. Like most restaurants in Amsterdam, they take credit cards and coffee was great as well. Was it the best Dutch pancake I had on my trip? Definitely the best savory one. read more

Of course, we had to get dutch pancakes while in Amsterdam! We heard good things about the Pancake Bakery so we ventured on over. We were seated quickly for it being such a busy spot. (The seating is very tight inside.) The service was okay, the food came out quickly and is fairly priced. I ordered the pesto sundried tomato pancake, it was savory and delicious. It was stuffed with mozzarella and had balsamic vinegar drizzled on top. When I was younger we had a European crepe place nearby and I always went for the savory crepes with pesto and cheese, this satisfied that nostalgic feeling. The pancakes are very big and filling. It is nearby the Anne Frank house for those planning to visit! read more
I spent a glorious ten days in Amsterdam and this was not only the best pancake bakery but also the best restaurant I went to. My boyfriend and I visited twice during our stay. They have such an extensive menu of sweet and savory pancakes. You can't go wrong with any of them. We tried the ham, cheese, and pineapple pancake and the apple with cinnamon ice cream. My favorite was the seasonal creme brûlée poffertjes with ice cream and sauce to pour on top. This would be the first restaurant I would visit when I someday return to Amsterdam. read more
We came here for breakfast and were the first ones into the restaurant when they opened at 9am. The seating area is pretty large including an upstairs dining room. The menu is pretty extensive including omelets, pancakes, and drinks. Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered the banana and Nutella pancake and the masali omelet. The omelet was huge and came with white bread and a side salad. The pancake was also pretty large. The syrups on the table were different than the Canadian maple syrup we were used to. We tried asking for more hot water for the mint tea, but apparently that was impossible. Oh how we miss the large cups for free water in the states. This pancake House was a pretty popular tourist location and we felt it was a little pricey for the food. read more

Lines can become very long during lunch so recommend coming on off hours to avoid a wait. Like the name, they specialize in various types of pancakes. Had their traditional with ham, cheese and onion. Pancake had a nice texture. Also had the Dutch Pancake (chocolate, cinnamon ice cream, whip cream). It is has a lot of sugar so really only recommend for people who have a huge sweet tooth. read more

I highly recommend this place for a taste of the local pancakes. I'm not sure how it compares to other places, but they were delicious. The pancake is as big as the plate it came one, and it was a large plate. It was thinner than an American pancake, and had the consistency of a crepe. I just smeared a little butter on it and ate it like that. I didn't need any syrup. My wife had it with jam and she loved it as well. For a local Amsterdam treat I suggest you try it. It was pretty crowded and had to wait in line but it was worth it. read more
I've never had anything quite like this, it's like french crepes on steroids. Was in Amsterdam over the holidays and on our last day there, I made sure we tried this place. A friend in Manhattan highly recommended it and I have since thanked her numerous times. The pancakes here are substantial. They're packed with goodness and super filling. Even for a bottomless pit like me, one pancake was enough. The pancakes ordered were the Indonesian (chicken, onions, mushrooms, leeks, and peanut sauce) this one also came with a small salad and some shrimp flavored crisps, a Special that had mushrooms, brie, pesto, and basil, and the Autumn special (pears poached in cognac, cinnamon ice cream, and whipped cream.) They were all over-the-top delicious! It's about a block and a half from the Anne Frank House and we came here after the tour. During lunch hour it was packed, we were lucky to to have gotten one of the last tables. Even though it was busy, the service was friendly and efficient. One cool thing is they have this huge pot of goodness on every table. A super thick molasses syrup that I still dream about months later. I just wanted to main-line this stuff directly into my veins, it was so good. Amsterdam is incredible and the next time I visit I won't wait 'til the last day to hit this place up. read more

Holy bejeeeeeesus. I've had incredible pancakes and breakfasts through out my life time, and I want to say this place is absolutely incredible! As a matter of fact, it was so good, that we went back the next day again. Here's what we ordered:' The Dutch pancake with stroopwaffel chucks and ice cream- 5 star. This is not for the light hearted. And yeah, the ice cream is what makes this truly delicious. The next day we had the panic withOUT the ice cream, since I didn't want to eat something too sweet, and it was a mistake. ICE cream is what makes this dish due to the cream melting into the pancakes and adding that creamy touch. Cheese and bacon omelette- 4.5 stars. I was expecting bacon bits or bacon pieces, but no, these are BACON STRIPS laying across your omelet. Very delicious, but it was a bit too "bacon-ey" for me and overpowering. I lOVE bacon strips, but it was overkill. Mushroom cheese and ham omelette - 5 stars. SO, i went back and decided to nick the bacon strips and try this dish on the next day and it was HEAVEN. Everything was PERFECT. Fluffy eggs, yummy cheese, just the right amount of saltiness from the ham bits. Banana and Chocolate Pancake- 4 stars. So yep. This was my second attempt of eliminating ice cream, since who wants to overload themselves with sugar and ice cream from breakfast. Well, I was wrong. Must stick with the pancake that has the ice cream in it, since that works better. I Highly recommend this place. Service can be inconsistent, but overall nice. read more
Full disclosure: I'm not a crepe person. But I simple had to try pancakes here in Amsterdam, and while they didn't blow me away (what turn me off about crepes is that they're pretty plain-tasting), I could still eat and enjoy them. Bacon and cheese pancake (really more like crepe) was good. Not too cheesy at all (for which I was glad, since I'm not a big cheese person, but the amount was also perfect for my cheese-lover friends, so a good balance all around!). Unfortunately, the bacon portion was really small. Just two pieces of bacon on the entire crepe... And a friend and I had splitted it, so it was just one piece of bacon each... Regardless, the crepes are certainly superior to USA's and are thicker, which I really appreciate. The top and middle of the crepe were soft and chewy, yet perfectly complemented with the crispy, slightly burnt bottom (nothing in USA has that perfect burnt taste!). Traditional pancake was good but nothing special; its plainness actually made me more keenly aware of the plain taste of crepes, which I've never really liked. The molasses sauce was interesting but good and went pretty well with the crepes here actually. Maple syrup was standard, just like USA's. We also tried Poffertjets (mini pancakes), and they were adorable and delicious -- very moist and lightly sweet but not overly so. You should definitely order these! read more

Pancakes were pretty decent- but the service was terrible- even though it is a huge place in- they only used the front third and it was cramped. I feel that they were very biased in seating you- we were a party of 3 and they sat us right in the front door under the stairs, while the couple right behind us got seated at a table of 4 with another empty table just along side. They didn't come back to check after they dumped our order on the table and we had to go to the bar and ask for the Cheque. When I went to use the restroom- noticed the entire rest of the restaurant was empty- there's a lot of other pancake houses - I guess your staff doesn't care. read more
I'm glad we got here early on Saturday because this place gets filled out pretty quickly. Dutch pancakes are more like crepes, maybe just a bit thicker. We got one of the specials of the day which was bacon, cheese, blueberries and figs and one bananas and apples. Normally I tend to lean on the savory side but the quality of the fruits is good here (better than the US in general) so I preferred the bananas and apples. The bacon was just okay. I suggest just sticking to the simple ones they are known for. We also got poffertjes with butter and sugar. I didn't care much for them. My advise would be to get here early and then go to Anne Frank House which is only a short walk away to burn off the calories. read more
When in Amsterdam we knew we wanted to try The Pancake Bakery so it was our 1st night in town and off we went! We arrived close to 7pm and got a table right away. After checking out the menu I ordered the Mexican pancake, it filled with chicken, mushrooms, onions, paprika, pineapple, tomato sauce, sweet corn served with guacamole & had a side green salad. I honestly was expecting it to be the size of a crepe, but these are huge pancakes! The pancake to me tasted more of a curry than Mexican, but it was delish no matter what, but I knew I was still ordering a sweet pancake, so I did not finish the entire dish. For the sweet pancake, I went with apple and cinnamon, it had fresh apple slices laid in the pancake (which are more like a thick crepe, thin pancake) cooked to perfection then had cinnamon ice cream on top of the warm pancake with fresh whipped cream and cinnamon liquor. Full of tourists. Not that I hate tourists, I mean, I am one myself in Amsterdam, but I like to go where the locals eat. Even though The Pancake Bakery wasn't authentic, we still had a good time. The portions were enormous and we barely finished our food. We ordered the and the cheese and ham omelette, which tasted a little too flour-y (if that's even a word) and the cheese, onion and bacon Pannenkoek which was delicious. We ended up eating all of the Pannenkoek and most of the omelette. That meal was quite heavy, but it kept us going for 6 straight hours before we were even hungry again. read more
Tip: Yelp says this restaurant opens at noon but it was open at 9 am. Don't miss the pancakes while you are in Amsterdam, trust me! We tried two at the Pancake Bakery one morning for breakfast - one savory and one sweet. The savory was The Norwegian, which was a large, thin pancake filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese. The sweet was a large plain pancake with powdered sugar. Both were great, although I recommend going toward sweet flavor so that you can try the amazing syrup served in big bowls on each table. This is the number one place that I recommend for Dutch pancakes in Amsterdam! It is located right off the canal and only a few blocks from the Anne Frank House. There was a line and it might take a bit to get seated but wait! It's worth it. So many options on the menu! There is a bowl of molasses syrup on the table to drizzle or pour on what ever delicious item you choose! Service was quick and friendly! This truly was the best meal we had in the city. read more
