If you want to get scolded at primary school style than this is the place for you. Sitting out the front of the restaurant is not allowed for two or more people at a table. My family of six got admonished as we requested to move multiple OPEN tables together to form one and in order for us to be together. After the teacher stopped yelling at us, we then sat at separate two person tables but continued to be chastised throughout our meal as we chose to move the tables ever so slightly out of the sun. Never before have we had such treatment over a ridiculous "rule". The only reason we didn't get up and leave (because trust me they were the last people we wanted to give our hard earned cash to) was because my mother, who is a senior, had longed to come to this place on her Amsterdam tour. Waited 30-45 minutes to go to this place, upon recommendation from a former local. Near the Ann Frank museum. Had the Hungarian pancake (savory with chorizo), and the Belgian (apples/raisins/sugar nuts/cointreau). Both were delicious and large (takes up a whole dinner entree plate, but not as thick as I thought it was going to be from my own limited knowledge of "Americanized" Dutch pancakes). Fun experience. I had a savory apple, bacon and cheese pancake here and it was one of the best meals I had during a recent visit to Amsterdam! I don't know how I avoided all of the amazing sounding sweet pancake creations, but I was really happy with my savory choice anyway. The pancakes are HUGE! They are also delicious, which could be a problem if you don't have self restraint and actually plan on doing something productive post pancake consumption. Went here with a group on August 15. The service was alright and the food was mediocre at best. Two of us ordered giant omelettes, the omelettes are not giant they're just long and very thin if they weren't long they would be just normal sized omelettes. They weren't bad and they weren't exceptional just meh. Another person ordered pancakes which they liked. The last person ordered nachos which were suppose to include spicy minced beef but the nachos were weirdly sweet. You had to eat a mouthful of jalapeños just to counteract the sweetness of it. LOVED The Pancake Bakery. Prior to visiting the Anne Frank House my travel companions and I wanted to grab a meal and had been given the recommendation to visit the Pancake Bakery. After a bit of wandering in the pouring rain to find it we arrived and found the most cozy, warm ambiance with outstanding food. We got seated near the back at a long wooden table and poured over the many, many choices they have on the menu. I ended up going with a chorizo, onion, and cheese pancake that was literally larger than my head. I was only able to eat half of it but it was totally amazing. My dining companions also loved their choices of an omelette and salmon and cream cheese pancake. However, we decided we could not pass up on the sweet pancakes and split a heavenly concoction of apples, raisins, nuts, whipped cream, ice cream, and liqueur sauce for dessert. I was so glad we tried it and would highly recommend trying both the sweet and savory pancakes if you have the opportunity. Finally, I also have to give a shout out to our amazing server, Lara. Yes, it's touristy. But sometimes touristy is just fine, when the food is amazing and the experience is authentic. We had the Brazilian (walnut ice cream, mocha sauce, amaretto) and the Norwegian (salmon and cream cheese spread and a salad). The pancakes were so light, and they were huge! The best part of my time here was sharing a table with a Dutch family who were able to describe all the foreign dishes to us and recommended what to choose. It's a good spot to go to refuel before/after the Anne Frank house, but you may have to wait in line a bit to be seated. The service is quick and the Indonesian pancake I had was very good. There was no way I could leave Holland without trying the famous Dutch pancakes. This was a recommended spot by the locals in Amsterdam. WOW! I got the maple bacon Dutch pancake. First off, it was the size of your average throw blanket, the bacon was thick and delicious and after one bite I just wanted to climb onto the plate and wrap it around me. Oh and the cafe latte was FANTASTIC! I had two! If you make it to Amsterdam, do yourself a favor and check this place out. It is a little dark and cramped, so if you are claustrophobic, take a Xanax, a shot of whiskey or whatever helps you get through it. read more

If zero stars were an option that's what these people would get. First of all, one would assume that if a place has a line forming outside it's doors that it's popular for one reason or another. Being that this is a restaurant, it's probably safe to assume that the food must be good. I guess I'll never know. I arrived here 15 til 9am. There was already a line of 10 people outside the door. Come to find out, they don't open til 9. So I waited. 9 came and went. About 9:15 they started the process of opening the doors and I was seated at about 9:20. We immediately placed our order, drinks and dishes. The service for drinks was relatively quick. The food, however, is another story. After about 45 minutes of being seated, I kindly asked the waitress to check on our order because it had been almost an hour. She walked away without saying anything, in the opposite direction of the kitchen. I wondered if she really cared (I know the answer) We waited about 15 more minutes and decided it was not worth it. I dropped 10 Euros on the table, to cover the coffee, and walked out. read more

Wow, wow, wow. One word: poffertjes. A must try in Amsterdam. To try the classic, I went for the plain poffertjes with butter and powdered sugar. They are straight up baby pillow-y pancakes, so sweet and buttery. They are absolutely delicious. My friend and I also shared the winter special which was topped with apple strudel, creme brûlée ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Wow. Again. So delicious. The combination of flavors was so decadent and worked so well together. The poffertjes soaked up all of the delicious flavors and were so yummy. However delicious this was, I would still recommend getting the classic with sugar and butter. It really allows the texture of the pancake to shine through, something that is so unique to this sweet treat. The interior of the restaurant is also very cute and quaint.
