Great and cozy location, very good price for what you get, even though when it's full and you don't have a reservation, it goes very quick to get a table and with a very good service. Well, not sure if it can get better than that. They have a big variety of pancakes and also omeletes which makes it very difficult to choose. What I did together with some friends, we ordered sweet and savory types and we just shared between each other. This way you can taste as much as possible within the same order :-). The staff is very responsive and proactive, making the whole process very quick. I think this reflects on the fact that you really don't need to wait that long to get a table without a reservation. Warning: If you're not used to sugary intake, be forewarned that the syrup used at this establishment is laced with crack, cause daYM its good. But seriously, are these crepes or pancakes? Because I'm starting to lose sight of the difference. The "pancakes" are ridiculously thin and just nicely crisp and soft at the same time. I got the Mexican (yes, even though I'm in Europe coming from Cali) and it was amazing, especially after putting some of that syrupy goodness on top of it. Sweet and savory, can't beat it. Also had the onion soup special with the dutch cheese all over it. Tasted amazing. Dutch cheese...its where its at! While I can see why so many tourists come here, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of locals came here as well. I loved these pancakes so much that we went twice. The second visit was not planned, but pancakes! Amsterdam was closed at a time when they should have been open so it was round 2 for the pancake bakery. The wait was around 15 min each time. On day 1, I had the Pancake with bacon, cheese and mushrooms: that was the best, most flavorful bacon I've had in my life. My friend had the Sweet American, which contained blueberries, honey, fresh mint, yoghurt ice cream and whipped cream. It was also delicious and we ended up splitting them for a sweet-savory combo which I highly recommend. For round 2, we both had the bacon and cheese pancake because it was just that good. I overheard that the couple next to us was given the wrong entree with what sounded like little apology, but our service was fine. Oh my goshhhh!!! I did plenty of research before landing in Amsterdam, so I was determined to get here after our tour of the Anne Frank house. There is indeed another pancake house directly next door to Anne Frank, but this place is the REAL deal. Just walk 4 minutes and you'll be in pancake heaven. We ordered a pancake (which was really like a crepe) with ice cream and mandarians to share, in addition to poffertjes simply done with butter and powdered sugar. I don't think I've tried to wolf something down so quickly. We were all like animals shoveling these sweet morsels into our mouths. It was painfully addicting. Certainly not the best in the country but they're good. It's on the slightly pricier end but it's also a more touristy place. They will not serve tap water as many more touristy places won't (ook al vraag ik in het Nederlands... jammer). Many people I know have ordered the speciality pancakes and have enjoyed them but I like to stick to my favorites: apple/cheese or cherry. The service is quick and the food comes quickly. Sometimes there is a long wait, especially on the weekends. If you are seated by the kitchen it can get quite hot which is unfortunate in the summer but nice in the winter. read more

These "pancakes" are basically crepes. They are good with a nice crispy edge and a soft middle. The table had 2 types of syrup (regular and caramel) as well as powdered sugar, salt, and pepper. There was one table with molasses so I guess you can request it. I went for the sweet type. It just seems a little weird eating the savory ones. i stuck with a fairly simple peach pancake. The pancake itself is the thin crepe. They put about 8 or so peach slices that came out of a can on the top. I ordered a sparkling water. This place had high reviews and we love pancakes, so we had to try it while we were in town. We ordered three different savory Dutch pancakes and they were okay, but not for the price. The service was not good either. We were delivered our dessert pancakes before our dinner pancakes, even after the waiter asked us which order we wanted them. We also weren't given silverware or napkins until after our food had been delivered and we had to ask twice. The seasonal special, however, was amazing! They had pancakes with pistachio ice cream, mangoes, coconut shavings, chocolate shavings, and whipped cream. So I would say it's a hit or miss kind of shop and a big tourist spot. The combo we ended up with was a bacon, cheese and mushroom pancake despite my best efforts to convince my husband to go out on a limb and get the bacon/banana combo. The pancake was definitely unlike anything I've ever had before. I'd say it's a cross between a regular American style pancake and a crepe. I loved the array of add-ins you can choose from on the table--especially the caramelly and slightly bitter sauce that's in the big bowl on the table. Stopped by here after the Anne Frank huis tour for lunch. There is a discount for the pancakes (specialty only) if you get the Amsterdam city pass. I ordered the Scottish salmon pancakes. Portion is huge, filling in decent and overall delicious. The pancake isn't like the US where it's fluffy and sweet. The dutch pancake is more flat, creppy, and eggy. Hmm, so let me start by saying that pancake places are as common as "coffee shops" in Amsterdam. They almost go hand in hand, if you know what I mean (wink wink). If you have never had Dutch pancakes before, you will be in for a treat. They have both sweet and savoury pancakes - you could even have a blank slate and create your own. I opted for the bacon and apple pancake because...when was the last time you have seen a place service a bacon and apple pancake? The hubby got a savoury pancake with cheese, chicken and mushrooms. I hate to admit defeat but his pancake tasted amazing and much better than mine. My pancake wasn't bad, it was a good experience but I probably would try another flavour next time I'm in town. I enjoyed clawing out the strips in my pancake and eating it with my husband's savoury pancake, that was so delicious. I highly suggest getting a savoury pancake that contains bacon (but not the apple one). POINTERS - They are located just blocks away from the Anne Frank House (a must visit when in town). I just spent hours waiting in line/walking through the Anne Frank House and was beyond hungry. A huge appetite is a must when going to the pancake bakery because you are about to eat SO much. I'm normally not a fan of super sweet things but this pancake just sounded too go to pass up.When it came to the table my mouth literally dropped, it was HUGE! When I took my first bite my mouth was in heaven. Everything went perfectly together and epitomized the taste of fall into a pancake. My boyfriend got the chicken and cheese pancake which was also quite good but in a totally different way. Mine was sweet with way more sugar than I could handle and his was savory. Sometimes I had to take a bite of his to escape the sugar rush of mine. I had tried a couple other pancake restaurants around the city and I have to agree that this is most certainly the best. We stopped by this place and we ordered a pancake with bacon and one with cheese. The one with bacon was very good. Not too much salty either sugar. I was thrilled to eat at Pancake Bakery. My boyfriend and I just stumbled across it during a morning bike ride. The menu is huge, the atmosphere is quaint and intimate, service was excellent, and prices were great. The food was awesome! There are plenty of American-familiar options, but I wanted to go with something I wouldn't/couldn't get at home, so I got the crepe with chicken, cheese, and pineapple, recommended by my waitress. So yummy! I also got a latte, and it was delicious. My main squeeze got an egg plate with bacon and toast, and it literally took the entire plate -- they use the main to LITERALLY cover the plate (for me, the crepe was plate-sized, for him the eggs covered the entire plate), then they put the rest of your meal on top of the main food item. Nothing major, but kinda cool! They have cute little magnets and t-shirts you can get as a souvenir, but when ti comes to restaurants the three big musts are: food quality, service quality, and price. Check, check, and check! After you waited at the entrance to be seated, you get a really big menu with all the variations of pancakes, sweet and hearty ones. We ordered one with some kind of oriental flavour, with peanut sauce and things like that, and a second one canadian style. Well it took some prompting from visiting family, but I finally made it to have a Dutch Pancake, for dinner... Plenty of choice for sweet or savory pancakes, plus other traditional breakfast fare if stopping in between 9:00 am and 12:00pm. We chose from the International Pancakes. I really enjoyed the Hungarian pancake. It was plenty big and very tasty. The other pancakes ordered were the Chilean and Belgian. The restaurant can fill up pretty fast. We arrived a bit early for dinner and it was relatively empty, but by the end of our feast, it was filling up fast. So, go early. The staff was friendly and attentive and it is kind of fun to watch them cook up the pancakes in the middle of the lower part of the restaurant. It was getting a bit loud as it filled up with dinner patrons, but not overly so. There is also an option to sit outside in front, if the weather is nice, it might be just the way to go. Lovely, easily 4* food, but pretty lacklustre service, including some ridiculous (apparently managerial) decisions. We queued at 11AM for about 20 minutes to get in here, although there were loads of tables free - OK, sure, maybe there aren't enough staff for good service. We'll wait. And, let's face it, the food is very good, when you get it. Unfortunately, it's really difficult to place your order and get your food - slow service overall. That's not so bad. What dragged it down was that, on a table of 5, who were spending over €90, one of our people who just didn't want anything they had to drink was told she couldn't have a glass of tap water if she didn't order a drink. Now, this is actually illegal in the EU, though it's not something you're going to fight, really, but restaurants are required to give tap water to their customers. And yes, it's clean. My friend relented, and ordered a cup of tea, but the waiter got shirty again when she asked if she could have the tea after the meal, as she wanted it hot, and then. So, it's not enough to order a €12-€15 pancake. You also have to have a €3 cup of coffee or tea or, I suppose, a beer or fizzy drink. (The tea was a glass of warm water and after about 10 minutes a box of tea bags was placed on the table, so you couldn't get a proper brew. I arrived to the restaurant's front with a family at around 11:30 with high expectations. We shortly placed our orders, one for each person along with drinks. As we sat, a large party of 8 arrived and sat next to us. 35-45 minutes passed and we were still waiting for some pancakes then we saw a waitress walking over with pancakes! Not for us though, the table next door! I called over the waitress, she brushed me off and did not give me an answer. I called over our actual waiter and he said that the order ticket was, lost. He could not find the ticket and hence the order was never placed. Now here is the part where I will give the waiter credit, he offerred to take our orders on the spot and promised it would be ready within ten minutes, also taking 50% off our order. Fortunately, the line moves fast as they will sit you with strangers at a table. We had just had first breakfast and wanted to split a pancake as we heard they were huge and could easily be shared. Big, delicious pancakes! I was in Amsterdam September '12 with my sister and our husbands. We were in Amsterdam for 3 1/2 days and ate here twice. As others have mentioned, the restaurant is in a touristy area, which was fine because that meant the walk from the hotel to the restaurant was short. Both times we went to Pancake Bakery, it was pretty busy, but we never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. Some people have complained that they don't give you tap water. Actually, they do. You just have to order another drink. I needed my coffee, so I didn't mind ordering a drink in order to get the free tap water. If you like thick fluffy pancakes, you won't find that here. The pancakes are more like what Americans know as crepes. That's how Dutch pancakes are. I got the "Brazilian Pancake." It's one of the sweet pancakes. I don't remember everything that was on it (ice cream and some other yummy stuff), but it was delicious. They also have savory pancakes at Pancake Bakery. My husband got one with chili and cheese (and some other stuff that I again can't remember). The pancakes take up the entire plate, and none of us were able to finish our pancakes. Some people have commented on this place being pricey, but considering the huge portions, I think the pricing is pretty fair. The second time we ate at Pancake Bakery, we got three pancakes for the 4 of us instead of one each. Much better idea. I was looking forward to trying out Pancake Bakery after researching it prior to my trip, and I was not disappointed. Aside from the traditional crepe fair, Pancake Bakery also serves many signature crepes that are creative and delicious. I got the Brazilian pancake, which was topped with ice cream, walnuts, caramel, and all kinds of wonderful things. It was very sweet and delicious, however it was so decadent I couldn't finish it.
