Doesn't look like much off the road but the food is good. I got the pork chops home fries and eggs. Real food Try the homemade weat bread.

    Poached eggs... really?

I've been a Parker House customer since they opened under new ownership a number of months ago. My perspective based on many visits that their food is generally good - but over the past 4 (or so) visits over the past 2 months - the food quality is hit or miss and service has become very lackadaisical. The wait for food to arrive has been excessive - even when business is slow. The servers are very nice - but too many issues are cropping up. The staff doesn't bother checking on you after serving food. I'm infrequently asked if I want anything else and the bill is just brought to me. I guess there's no point in spending any money (?!). they don't seem to know you're spending money that translates to their job. It seems to be a lack of training and inadequate supervision. I'm writing today based on my wanting to provide a constructive WAKE UP CALL to the owner based on my visit May 19. A customer at my table (who never complains about anything no matter how bad things are) was served poached eggs that should have never been presented to a customer. I was stunned when the young gal brought this item to the table. As she causally set the plate down on the table (several minutes after everyone at the table was served their food!) she stated "let me know if you want eggs re-done". The guest didn't want to appear picky and didn't immediately comment... so I said yes, please remake the poached eggs. I also noticed a person at a table next to us had an extremely over cooked waffle. Past issues I can recall is being served lukewarm chicken noodle soup, over cooked omelets and undercooked hash browns. When this occurred March 2019 I asked them to be replaced - the server (different gal than on May 19) saw and agreed with me and gladly replaced. But again this food should never have made it out of the kitchen. Unfortunately, I'm sad to say, as a repeat customer, I'm not returning. I've had enough. Maybe I'll hear things are improving and I'll change my mind.

    Porker House Breakfast.

Even better than last year. Fresh and delicious food and friendly staff. Always a must for breakfast when we come to the lake.

I visit my parents place north of Alpena occasionally and now make it a point to have a meal here.

Service was insultingly and frustratingly terrible. The owner himself took my order, and even…read morerepeated it back to me, but after an uncannily long wait, they finally brought it out. It was wrong. They got my order wrong, which is fine, it happens... but he refused to let me send it back and just get a refund. He seemed to have an attitude about it, appalled that I would even ask such a thing. It's not like I had eaten most of it and then requested a refund. It was visibly wrong the moment it arrived. He said, again with attitude, "Well, we made it and you payed for it, so..." Aren't such payments supposed to be on a little bit of a good faith system? So fine, whatever, he walked away even as I was beginning to explain that the way I ordered was for medical reasons, but I could see I wasn't going to achieve anything by talking more. We attempted to eat, and... it was okay. Nothing notable, but not gross either. As we ate, an elderly server/waitress comes over and starts lecturing us, telling us that they dont serve pizza there. Which we just got and we're eating. After a few moments, she finally made it clear that we weren't allowed to EAT the pizza there. The pizza that was on their menu. No signs proclaiming this esoteric rule, but between her words and condescending tone, we were starting to get rather upset now, so we just picked up and left. Terrible place. Don't give them your business. The small store in front, attached to them, was fine. I dont know if it is the same owners or they share the building or what, but we had no problems with the shop in front.

Every one we ordered was yummy. I chose a build your own pizza, it was so good. The rest of the table went with sandwiches, chicken, appetizers, & soup- all were happy with their choices. The kids ordered up a variety of mocktails. They loved them. There is a little ice cream shack out back with hand dipped cones. The view is amazing of Grand Lake. The ambiance is cozy & modern with an up north feel. The staff was super friendly. We will be back!
