5 stars is a nearly untouchable bar for me which is the only reason Parker House gets a 4. First and foremost, a greeting and service from Lori is a great start to the morning. She is absolutely a wonderful and cheerful person. This is the only place to go in the morning for breakfast. Excellent quality and a nice portion size. Omeletts are wonderful and I really enjoy the hash browns (crispy). French toast and waffles are a must try for those with a sweet tooth. If no stars was an option that would be my choice. My family and I visited The Parker House for years for their exceptionally good breakfast and friendly, attentive service. It was a real small town gem. Under new ownership it has extremely poor service and, unfortunately, I can't speak to the quality of the food because we never got our meal. We were immediately put off by the snarky signage out front related to the pandemic welcoming patrons without masks and underhandedly condemning the government for requiring them. We couldn't help but notice that there wasn't a single person on staff with a mask. We selected a table on the patio where we waited in the heat for our food for over an hour while being actively ignored by the waitstaff. The people at tables around us also appeared frustrated. The restaurant was not overly busy but we sat with empty coffee and water cups, clearly concerned that our food was taking so long without any acknowledgement from the staff. At one point they noticed a storm blowing in and began closing the umbrellas around us, loudly discussing their relief that no one would be able to sit outside on the patio. This is a review of the cabins and the restaurant. Quite honestly it was an accident we stayed here. Very affordable cabins. The cabin was clean, the bed was okay, the bathroom worked. The food is amazing but they have no idea how to manage seating especially of big parties. They will continue to seat small parties instead of putting tables together, making large parties wait that much longer. Once you are seated you could wait up to 2 hours for food. Solid food, but be prepared to wait. I was here during a holiday with a buddy of mine staying close by. The food was seriously great. Nothing insane, B&G, pancakes, eggs, hash browns, the usual, but everything is really good. They have cottages for under a hundo which makes it a great get-away spot, but just realize its the only place to eat within 4 solid miles so you may be waiting over an hour for food. We live locally on the lake and just love the Parker House. The wait staff is very friendly and takes the time to get to know their customers and neighbors. They remember drink orders, and coffee preferences. It's fun to see someone for breakfast on the weekend and then see them later in the week dipping ice cream next-door and they say hi. What we love about living in a small town area. However, be prepared to wait and be patient during the summer season. They are busy! Which should tell you something. Worth the wait if you have the time. Great food and good people. Cabins look amazing, although we've never stayed there since we are just a short boat ride away across the lake. we were here 2 years ago under the previous owner food was good service was good food is still good under the new owner however, they need to tighten up the wait time from the time of order until the time your food gets to your table. I've been a Parker House customer since they opened under new ownership a number of months ago. My perspective based on many visits that their food is generally good - but over the past 4 (or so) visits over the past 2 months - the food quality is hit or miss and service has become very lackadaisical. The wait for food to arrive has been excessive - even when business is slow. The servers are very nice - but too many issues are cropping up. The staff doesn't bother checking on you after serving food. I'm infrequently asked if I want anything else and the bill is just brought to me. I guess there's no point in spending any money (?!). they don't seem to know you're spending money that translates to their job. It seems to be a lack of training and inadequate supervision. I'm writing today based on my wanting to provide a constructive WAKE UP CALL to the owner based on my visit May 19. A customer at my table (who never complains about anything no matter how bad things are) was served poached eggs that should have never been presented to a customer. I was stunned when the young gal brought this item to the table. As she causally set the plate down on the table (several minutes after everyone at the table was served their food!) she stated "let me know if you want eggs re-done". The guest didn't want to appear picky and didn't immediately comment... so I said yes, please remake the poached eggs. I also noticed a person at a table next to us had an extremely over cooked waffle. Past issues I can recall is being served lukewarm chicken noodle soup, over cooked omelets and undercooked hash browns. When this occurred March 2019 I asked them to be replaced - the server (different gal than on May 19) saw and agreed with me and gladly replaced. But again this food should never have made it out of the kitchen. Unfortunately, I'm sad to say, as a repeat customer, I'm not returning. I've had enough. Best place to eat at in these parts. I visit my parents place north of Alpena occasionally and now make it a point to have a meal here. Affordable food that is made with a degree of care that I don't find elsewhere in the area. Portions are great, you won't leave hungry but aren't paying extra for more than you can eat anyways. WOW!! Parker House breakfasts are PHENOMENAL!! EVERY TIME, and I do mean EVERY TIME, I have time to get out to the Parker House for breakfast NOTHING can stop me!! A bit out of the way, it is well worth the 20-25 minute drive from Alpena. The restaurant's a stone's throw from the lake, so DEFINITELY take the opportunity to dip your toes in the lake. Now to the food. Have I mentioned that the breakfasts are PHENOMENAL!?!?!? In the three times I've made the pilgrimage everyone in the group has walked away VERY satisfied and VERY stuffed!! Needless to say the portions are REALLY good-sized!! I've had the manhole-sized pancakes in both the regular and blueberry variations. My ONLY advice - go with the "short-stack" so you have room for the rest of your meal. YUUUUUUMMYYYYYY!! This last go-around I had the kielbasa wth my over-easy eggs, American fries, made-daily whole wheat toast...YUUUUUUMMYYYYYY!!!!!! The kelbasa was unanimously the favorite meat!! Awesome breakfasts! Visited several times and never disappointed. Cinnamon bun pancakes, omelettes, traditional breakfasts were all done to perfection. The ice cream shop is great too. They change the flavors up pretty regularly so you have a lot of options. Favorites of our group were the Eskimo kisses, Blackberry, Banana Puddling, and Cherry. Too many good ones to list. We actually stayed in a cabin in addition to having our breakfast here. First the cabin experience: Very cute, small wood paneled cabins with the feeling that are nestled somewhere way out in the woods. Well, that's probably because you are in the woods! I thought the showers we especially quaint, with a 1950's style black and white tile-mosaic. Very artsy. Unexpected when you are being woodsy! The old windows have hand cranks -- only the one in the bathroom was still accessable. Being there in mid-July, we were happy that the wall unit AC blew ice cold -- just how we like it. But don't be surprised if you find a few spiders -- especially in the shower area. You are in a wood building in the woods, with lots of nature around. Spiders love that too. We headed across the dirt road toward breakfast around 9:30 am. The place was still full to the brim, but our wait for a table was only about 10 minutes. We had read reviews that it would take a long time for our food -- but were surprised that our pancakes (Pecan cakes were the bomb) arrived quite quickly. The 2 women waiting tables were obviously well experienced in handling a full room of guests. My husband's omlette with super-thick homemade wheat toast was very good too. Three of us ladies went this morning and had the most delicious breakfast. It is the best omelette I have ever had (Garden) and my friends thoroughly enjoyed their fruit/french toast. Wait time, although busy was 10 minutes at the door and very brief for arrival of hot food. Staff was friendly and efficient. It is a unique restaurant within a beautiful setting. If you are in the Alpena area you don't want to miss this place. Really excellently prepared food and a good menu. It is a breakfast to 2:00 pm restaurant. I was there in early March (off season) and had eggs Benedict for breakfast. The owner, Faye, was our waitress and may very well have been the chef too. She makes her own recipe for hollandaise sauce. On the menu was also banana and pumpkin bread French toast. See what I mean about the menu? So Faye was too busy and we talked movies and books. My breakfast cost about $10 and she gave me a $10 paperback copy of Orange is the New Black she finished reading. This use to be our favorite restaurant for breakfast. We won't be back after having two bad experiences there. Yesterday was the final draw. We ordered eggs and sausage and hashbrowns crispy with onions along with homemade Texas toast. The toast wasn't even toasted and when the gal came and asked if everything was all right we told her the toast isn't toasted. She offered to do nothing about it. If we only wanted bread we would've ordered bread. We ordered crispy hashbrowns with onions and when it came there was a mound of hashbrowns enough for 4 several people but they had no taste and they were not crispy. The only thing I could say that was good was the eggs and the only thing that we can do is not go back. Their prices are on the high side and we don't mind that as long as the food and the service is good. read more

My husband, daughter, and I had breakfast here on Labor Day Weekend. The pancakes, toast, and hash omelet were excellent. Our waitress was lovely. However, the "hostess" and apparent owner, Faye, was unacceptably rude. Faye loves babies, but anyone over the age of 12 months, beware. She complained to one man because someone else with the same name was already on the wait list. He offered to give her a different name, but she barked that it wasn't necessary. Instead of asking waiting customers if they'd been helped, she growled, "are you new? It's going to be a few minutes." She tossed people's food onto their tables. There were regular customers who seemed to like Faye. Perhaps she doesn't treat regulars as if she wants them to fall off the face of the earth. 5 stars for delicious, simple food. 5 stars for the waitress. -1 star for Faye. read more

The Parker House is a breakfast must do if staying near Long Lake. The casual and quaint restaurant sits on the lake and has rustic decor. The food tastes like home cooking and the portions are huge. The bread is homemade and tastes amazing. There are always tasty specials written on the board to choose from in addition to the regular menu.
