PHS destroys the current corporate and clinical approach of supposedly modern beauty salons, which these days lack that personal connection with their clients. Kate and Barbara have truly achieved a fantastic vibe. Heather was my assigned artist. And she is awesome. Open, friendly, fun, and absolutely invested in what it was I was after for my mop of thinning hair. Constant conversation during the cut regarding the layering, feathering, length, "clunkiness," and overall feel of her work. I am a fussy, pain-in-the-derriere type of client. Not today. I had all but given up on finding someone who could do a gel manicure in this town. I've not had my nails done in a decade or more. I don't like to feel like I'm in an assembly line where no one speaks English and they upsell you and pretend they don't understand. I am pretty particular - no drills, no powder, no squared edges, no ultra long, no color. Just natural looking shorter nails because I wear contacts. Maybe that's boring, but hey I like what I like! Alicia Van Winkle is the wonderful person who did my nails and I love them! Considering I hadn't done them in forever, she was so patient and did them quickly and beautifully. Nice conversation as well. She has a little alcove in the Parlour House Salon, and it's private, and welcoming. The salon is super cute, in an old house with all those period details of a 100 year old house. Parking is in the back and that's where they prefer you go in and out I think. I didn't know so I went in the front, and it was locked. The waiting area is the old sun porch - they have coffee and tea and some cute clothes for sale. I paid $65 for a full set, and I don't know what the fill costs, but I'll find out today. read more

I got a Groupon to get full highlights for my birthday, I've never used a Groupon before for my hair but i thought this was gonna be a good option since I'm new on this city and i hadn't dyed my hair in about 4 years, so i wanted to give it a try and prevent myself of paying a lot of money in a place where could burn my hair or i might not like, however, Since i know i have a bunch of hair i was conscious that the price I paid for my Groupon wouldn't be enough for the work i needed on it, so i decided to wait till the end so if i like the work I'd give them a generous tip. Well... i have to say that it totally screwed my day... this Is what happended.. 1. Once I got to the saloon, I told kate that i got a Groupon and showed her a picture of what I wanted and she agreed and started working.... within some time she was done, and the color looked good to me on my wet hair... so she started "drying" it... but she didn't dry it well and instead did a messy braid on the side of my forehead. By that time I was thinking "okay I get it because I know I have so much hair, she'll probably dry the rest of my hair that's off the braid" but no! She was done and i had the bottom of my head all wet.... Of course i didn't tip as I planned before for obvious reasons but I did a small tip... 2. On my way home I was thinking that it will look better once I curl it myself.... but then... I asked my husband to take some pictures of my hair and, I'm just gonna attach them here and you can judge by yourself.... I felt terrible, the color was uneven, my hair was a mess. 3. When I started curling it, I noticed that she didn't do anything to the bottom of my hair, so I texted her and she said that's how it goes since that was "Partial highlights" wait, didn't the Groupon say "haircut, full highlights and style" ? I didn't even ask for a haircut or style because again... I have tons of hair! I have to say that she told me she could do more highlights if I wanted, but I don't really wanna go back there... 4. now I have to be with my hair like that for at least a few weeks before I'm able to go to a place where I can be happy with the results, but NOT WITH A GROUPON!! read more

Parlour House Salon is wonderful! Super cute on the outside, very spacious on the inside! It's so welcoming, warm, and homey inside. The decor is perfect, and there's even a little boutique upstairs with items for purchase. Coffee and tea is available while you enjoy their services as well! Kate has been doing my hair for 6+ years now. When I first started seeing her, my hair was bleach blonde and absolutely fried. It wouldn't grow past my shoulders for anything. The owner or one of the ladies in the shop was obviously having a bad day because she towed my sister's car after being only in the house 10 minutes so her son could use the bathroom because someone was parked in her parking spot. She knows the car and who it belongs to and decided to tow it. I could see if there was no parking left but there was several spots where someone could of parked. She also parked away from the store so she wasn't taking up parking spots close to it. Because of the lady decided to get car towed my sister spent the last of her paycheck and had to get help from others to get her car out of tow. Thelma is messy, unprofessional and really out-dated with her hair styling. I went to her because I was referred by a friend, and I was not attended at my scheduled time. She booked multiple clients and rushed through my hair. Most of the time I just sat and waited while she worked on others. She gave me a horrible cut afterward and didn't even bother to style it. I do not see how she can possibly be working as a hair stylist. My hair is ruined and the next day I went elsewhere to get it fixed. I wish I would have done my homework and looked her up on FB. The atmosphere is definitely cute, but the stylist I had has been totally unreliable. I am physically disabled and getting around is difficult for me. I had an appointment as it was very important I had a haircut before I have surgery to stage my CANCER. The stylist double booked and didn't even think to make the other person wait. She knew how important it was I get my haircut. I was promised a phone call. I had to contact her. The conversation didn't go great. I was left totally disappointed with hair that looks like a disaster as I head into surgery. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't care if someone double booked, but as a disabled person about to have cancer surgery, I found this unacceptable, especially as the stylist knew all of this. I am normally one to compliment, not criticize, but this was terrible service. So upset. read more

Heather did a great job of coloring and shaping my hair after I spent three months searching for someone who listened to what I want my hair to look like. She asked me how I blew it dry each morning and what products I used and liked besides looking at pictures I sent her of my hair color and cuts I liked. She is fantastic and I am thrilled to have to found her. The salon is decorated in such a fun eclectic style it is fun to walk around and look at it.
