In NYC, this might be a three star experience. In Danville, KY, where it's the ONLY Greek restaurant, it's a decent four star experience. One must adjust expectations depending on the situation. I had the chicken souvlaki platter, which is essentially a kebab. It comes with a nice fresh Greek salad, rice, and tzatziki sauce. Not exactly juicy, not exactly dry, but not bad. My companion had the mousasaka, which is layered eggplant, potatoes, and meat sauce topped with Bechemel cream. Also comes with rice and the salad. We also had the fries, which are not the typical you see in Greek restaurants. Rather than the crispy crunchy fries with the golden outside, these almost seem air fried. But they were light and airy and we enjoyed them. This restaurant also serves gyro, falafel, spanakopita, hummus and pita, a Greek burger. The reason this place is called Greek-American is because they also serve cheeseburgers, fried chicken, fish, Reubens and BLTs, steaks, salmon, etc. I wish they would focus on just Greek food and make that better, but I understand that is probably tough in a place like Danville. They probably have to have other cuisine options to stay afloat. The service was very kind and attentive and the restaurant is super bright and clean. Delish! Stopped for lunch with colleagues while in town and everyone enjoyed what the had. Menu has plenty to choose from. Inside is small, but good tables for small groups. Service was fast when ordering at the counter and they bring food out as soon as it's done. The Greek coffee was great too. read more

I've had several people recommending The Parthenon so yesterday I made it a point to stop in and get lunch for myself. It was a large menu so I took a few minutes to review it. I ended up ordering the Souvlaki ( chicken skewers) and it was absolutely delicious. It came with rice, salad with a wonderful dressing, warm pita bread and tzatziki dressing . I will definitely be visiting there more often to try other menu items. Also on Wednesdays if you order a platter or large salad they add a free baklava. read more

A small restaurant with only around 20 chairs but the flavor in the food is big. The lady taking our order was polite and helpful. Went once and the next day went again because the experience was so nice and the prices were very respectable for such portion sizes. It was a noticeably clean and well-kept establishment We ordered Greek nachos, Greek fries, gyro, and pork souvlaki. The Greek nachos came piled high with gyro meat, vegetables, and two dipping sauces of choice. The Greek fries are seasoned well and have feta crumbles on top! The pork souvlaki was marinated beautifully and grilled perfectly. The gyro is stuffed with meat, is appropriately seasoned, and offers a unique blend and taste I have not found anywhere else. First time eating here. Been seeing ads for this place on Facebook so we decided to check it out. Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly as well. We ordered the gyro platter and the souvlaki platter. Both meals tasted great. Talked to a couple that was eating here and they said they eat here three times a week and they recommended a couple other meals to try next time. We will definitely be eating here regularly. This restaurant is my favorite place in Danville. Jimmy, the owner, is always friendly and reliable. We get carry-out about once a week. We place our order, make the 7 minute drive and it's almost always ready when I get there. The gyro and souvlaki platters are our favorite dishes, but the burger and ribs are some of the best in town. Fresh, delicious salads and decadent desserts round out an amazing meal. Not impressed. $20 for drink, small salad and a piece of baklava. Description of Salad included gyro but there was no protein in the salad. Salad greens were at least fresh but grape leaf was subpar and no Kalamata olives just cheap canned sliced black olives. Vinaigrette was literally all oil that tasted cheap. We just moved to Danville near this restaurant. We were excited about going to it as my wife and I both love Greek. Unfortunately we weren't impressed and probably won't go again. Both of our orders came with limp greasy fries. My wife had a Caesar Salad that had way too much dressing on it and it was soggy lettuce....she didn't eat it. I had a gyro that was pretty good but again the fries were soggy and the ranch dressing on my salad had no flavor. Generally just not a place we'd visit again. Rice was decent, nothing to rave about. Salad was fresh mixed greens with bell pepper and cucumber on top--didn't strike me as particularly "Greek," but good nonetheless. Prices typical. I love it! the man that owns it is the kindest man ever and last time I was there he told me how I can get deals there. the lady with long hair makes sure your glass is full and that we are doing good!! I was...how shall I say ... dubious? (Not as dubious as sushi in Pittsburg, though). And, dang I was wrong. This place was fantastic!! It's small so there aren't many tables but that wasn't an issue. (Did I mention it was a LATE lunch?). The service was super friendly, but the food.... Oh the food. The gyro was the best I've ever had. Perfectly spiced, perfectly cooked, perfectly sauced, and on the perfect pita. It was big enough to share, but you better like the person you're sharing it with because if not you may kneecap them to have the whole thing to yourself. I don't think I'm going to make an intentional trip all the way back there from TX, just to have that gyro again, but it's not out of the question either. read more

I think this is the fifth time eating here. I'm a review procrastinator, what can I say. However, I can't say enough good things about this place! The owners are super nice, the food is consistently amazing. The feta here is the best I've ever tasted and it's kind of upsetting that we can't find as good quality in our local grocery store chains. The Mediterranean Trio Appetizer comes with Tzatziki dip, Hummus, and Feisty Fiesta (our favorite)! You can get this with warm pita bread or pita chips. The texture of the fluffy-crisp chips combined with the dips is a match made in heaven and not to be missed! My husband usually gets a Gyro and Greek fries. Speaking of: If you love fries and feta, you seriously need to try the Greek Fries, an incredibly delicious combination of french fries, feta and a drizzle of olive oil! I typically get the Greek salad with gyro meat, which they are generous with and I'm very happy about that!! The citrus salad dressing tastes freshly made and has a very nice acidic balance, which compliments the salad. Today my husband had the pork Souvlaki. He gave me a piece and it was delicious as well.
