This was such a cute spot!! I'd never been to Short North before, but after visiting The Pearl, I definitely want to keep exploring the area whenever I'm visiting Columbus. My sister-in-law made a reservation for a few of us family members, including her two young kids. Sometimes, nicer restaurants like this aren't as receptive when you have children dining with you ... but our waitress was incredibly engaging and sweet with my niece and nephew, and didn't let the addition to our party get in the way of absolutely stellar service. Before visiting, I did a little research and found that the Pearl has been recognized for its amazing Bloody Mary's. Being that that's my favorite brunch drink EVER, I had to put theirs to the test. I ordered the drink as spicy as I could ... and I can say that they're definitely at the top of their game with these. I have to say that their Jalapeno Spoon Bread starter is one of the best cornbread renditions I've ever had. It's moist and gooey, served with lightly whipped butter and just a touch of sweetness from some local honey. This was a hard dish to share ... I could've totally eaten the whole thing on my own. I love oysters, but didn't get the chance to order any of theirs during this particular visit ... which means I guess I'll just have to come back! I did create my own soup & salad duo, with orders of their Creamy Clam Chowder and their Tavern Citrus Salad. This ended up being a delightful combo ... the soup was warm and flavorful, and the salad was light and bright. Columbus, particularly the Short North neighborhood has some great food offerings and shops. The Pearl, however, is just ok. Food: I tried the deviled eggs, grilled oysters, and octopus. First, the good: how cute is the presentation for the deviled eggs?! Simple ingredients and definitely a hit. I would get this again. The grilled oysters were also a hit. Nicely seasoned with a hint of spiciness. That's about all that good. The octopus was executed horribly -- rubbery and overcooked. The happy hour deals are awesome, bar none. The food was amazing. We shared the braised short ribs that were recommended by our server. We ended our meal with the peach and cream pie in a jar. That was really good and refreshing. I love the downtown location, but just saw their place in Dublin and it's BIG!! Like two stories and balcony. Looks awesome, going to need to check it out sometime. You need reservations though or go early/really late!!! UPDATE: we just checked out their Dublin location it was really GREAT! Love the interior. They have more oyster options on the menu. They had a Shrimp and Lobster boil special going on that we split.. wow! It was really, really good. For appetizers we had bacon wrapped dates, fries, and the New Orleans baked oysters. Very very good! Definitely should do the reservations and/or get there early. This place is absolutely busting at both locations. Last time we went to the downtown location, we sat at the oyster bar, cool spot but not comfortable. The Dublin location we also got sat at a high top in the bar area. Not ideal, but cozy. We noticed that their downtown location doesn't offer as many oyster options as their Dublin location. Maybe it's rotating? Don't come often to know. Great food and accommodated a large party! We had reservations and were able to hold seats for us. When some people dropped out last minute they were still fine. It was busy around 7p on a weeknight! It took a while to get our drinks but understand that the whole place was packed. Towards the end they were able to refill drinks much quicker as the place emptied out. We enjoyed the food, a mix of seafood and terrestrial favorites. Unfortunately a few people in our party did not partake bivalves so more for those who enjoyed! The spoon bread was a great shareable as well as the candied bacon apricots. Everyone got different entrees. I had the 6oz Arctic char. It was grilled perfectly, with the fish still flaky and flavorful. The cauliflower had an acidic flourish. Finally the desserts were awesome. We shared a couple of each. Tried the Pearl for happy hour and really enjoyed the food. At the time of this review, the happy hour runs from 4-6pm Monday thru Friday and includes half off (most) draft beer, wine and specialty cocktails, half off snacks, starters and the pub burger, and $3 oysters. We showed up without a reservation around 430-445 and thankfully were able to be seated. The restaurant got pretty crowded around 530, so would recommend making reservation if you're coming after 5pm, regardless of day of the week. I ordered the pub burger and also tried both a fried and baked oyster. The burger is topped with cambozola cheese and tomato jam and comes with thick cut fries. Simply put, the burger was absolutely delicious. It was also a lot of food and I was able to take half home for leftovers. For the oysters, I preferred the baked over the fried. The baked oyster comes on a plate doused in flavored juices/oil from the baking process and a side of toasted bread to dip the excess with -- it was great! A couple people ordered some of the snacks and starters (specifically the fried pickles, tater tots, jalapeño corn bread and chicken wings), and each was large enough for 2-3 people. Lastly, our server Nik was awesome and did a great job accommodating our large party. read more

Stopped in on way to airport for the steamed salmon and it was great. I'm not picky with beer so I went with the brown bag and the chocolate stout was perfect. Turns out the salmon was only a starter but it was delicious and filling with toast and a deviled egg. Classy place good for date night with a bar and oyster bar. The Pearl has quickly become one of my go-to happy hour spots. My favorite drink is their Moscow mule which is refreshing and tasty. As for starters, I love the devils on horseback (cheese stuffed bacon wrapped dates) and deviled eggs. Both have smaller portions but the taste will leave you satisfied enough that it won't matter. I also can't go without getting the baked oysters which come in a flavorful sauce and with bread for dipping. Most times when I want seafood I dive illegally into my neighbour's pool. Whatever I find I shovel into my face. Most times it is not tasty. So when we sat in the middle of the very cool restaurant with all the yellow low lights. And they gave me food that I did not have to fight my neighbour's six dogs for. I became excited. First, the ambiance was what I expected. Upscale, casual was the vibe. The music and conversation noise was higher than most restaurants but because we were placed in a cozy corner I was able to easily talk and enjoy conversation in my party of 4. Being it is Lent, we had plenty of seafood options which is why we chose this restaurant. Fish and chips, shrimp and grits were delicious as were fried and raw oysters we had to begin as appetizers. The waitress (Jala) was friendly and offered good service. One in our party was very particular about his dirty martini and was pleased he received 4 olives stuffed with cheese. We finished our meals with pies as that is what we were told is their dessert. We tried 3 of the 4 offered. My favorite was the brown sugar. They had brown sugar, buckeye, chocolate cream and peach maple. We did all but the peach maple. Everyone was happy and I tried a bite of each. All were delicious. Finding good fish n chips in the states is like seeing Big Foot. Everybody has a "story" about a place that does a good fish n chips but you don't really believe it until you see it for yourself. Well, let's just say the Great Lakes Fish N Chips is as good as the stories say! Mouth watering lightly battered fish that melts in your mouth, with some thick cut fries just like it should be done. This has to be a new favorite for me-- I'm so surprised it's taken me so long to check it out because I've heard such great things. I was walking around high street on one of our warm recent days to look for a fun new spot for happy hour that had a patio or open-air seating. As any Columbusites know, warm sunny weather plus happy hour in the Short North = BUSY. As I was passing the Pearl I noticed the open-air window seating and walked in to ask about their happy hour. They were offering 1/2 off on all "Snacks", shareables, and drinks! What an awesome Happy Hour. I had a friend meet me and they weren't able to give us a table, but we were able to find seating easily on their left barstools. score. We ordered 6 oysters, whitefished spread, coconut Thai mussels, and devils on a horseback. We washed them down first with two specialty cocktails and finished out with a martini each. All food items were delicious-- the oysters were fresh and I I loved the mignonette they were served with. It already contained the horseradish and was the only condiment I used (normally im squeezing lemon, adding horseradish, topping with hot sauce/a mix of those). The devils on a horseback were crispy and delicious. The broth for the mussels was creamy and dynamic. The whitefish spread was rich with a great combination of flavors. All serving sizes seemed totally fair. We were totally satisfied sharing one app and 3 snacks. The cocktails we had were the gin/thyme and the peach bourbon cocktail. They were fresh, decently sized, and did not disappoint. The peach cocktail came with frozen peaches instead of ice, which we devoured after they thawed. The Martinis were perfectly to our liking. Service was attentive from start to finish (and we sat there for awhile). This restaurant is normally a little bit on the pricier side, but during Happy Hour it was an absolute steal. Had a date night at The Pearl on a Wednesday specifically for their burger night. Each Wednesday, they do a special burger posted on their insta. This week was a beer cheese one. We ordered the shrimp for HH and wow! Delicious! The bread that comes with it was great in the oil. I ordered a salad with a bunch of different seafood and they really do put a lot of meat into it. Worth the price. The burger was delicious. High quality meat, which makes sense figuring it's $22. That's steep for a burger, and comparable to steakhouses. The fries were good also, but for this special meal, the cheese on them made them really mushy really fast. I will definitely come here again. I do recommend making a reservation, because even on a Wednesday, it was packed! read more

For many, many years our work friends have cherished our meetings at The Pearl in the Short North when we are attending or presenting at conferences. Last evening we came from all over the US and Ohio to celebrate friendship. For the first time ever, our experience was lack luster. Service was mediocre and the expensive food (it has always been delicious) was overly salty (scallops, chicken ) and the portions left you hungry. The menu has less options too. We had a large party and if the 20% gratuity wouldn't have been added we would have left less. A real disappointment. We came here on a Sunday morning and it was absolutely filled to the brim. Understandable - their food and service were great. A couple people in my group got the chicken and waffles that looked amazing. I got the fish and chips, which looked like a classic. The fish was super tender and crispy on the outside. The fries were also a spot-on classic. My coleslaw tasted a litttttle but in the funky side though, which was difficult to tell if that was because it just drowned in mayo or had something weird brewing. Be ready to wait for a table if you're coming though! Luckily, someone in my party had the foresight to make our reservation, but otherwise the wait for 2 sounded like it'd be another hour or so when we got there. read more

That having been said, the staff were helpful in trying to work out an alternative for non-pork dining. Made a reservation and arrived timely, but still had to wait a while to be seated. A number of other parties appeared to be in the same boat also waiting - this made for a crowded waiting experience, as the pre-seating/waiting area is tiny. Once seated and my order placed, the food did arrive fairly quickly. The server suggested starting with deviled eggs and this was an excellent addition to my order - quite tasty with hints of savory spices that complimented the eggs. Hot cakes were well prepared and ai elected to replace the pork on the plate with potatoes that were similarly well prepared with aromatic spices. Great place for a brunch, a night out or a lunch date. The restaurant is a lot larger than it looks. Now since the bridge is finished it is always busy. Make a reservation! Went to brunch, had a good selection. Sadly, I think the waitress was a little too busy or they were shortstaffed. But, it wont take away the five stars. The oysters were fabulous, crackers , enough lemons, hot sauce and not tabasco. They have their own favorite hot sauce. YUMMMY. Then the light tempura baked pickles. Hot temp. pickles with a light salty batter. Oh my. Then we had the not sure,,, bisquits and gravy with poached eggs. I had the GF fish and chips and the ratio of batter to fish was way too much--I picked half of it off and it was still too much. Both the fish and chips were also very salty, and I couldn't even eat my chips. The slaw was good. My friend had the shrimp and grits and she said it was very good. The service was very slow. We had the Gin Thyme cocktail and that was delicious. The interior of the restaurant is very nice but I think it would be very loud when the restaurant is full. I won't be going back. read more

Back in 2019 this place was one of my favorites in Columbus but sadly over time I feel the quality has gone down. Ordered the New Orleans Oysters, Parmesan clams, and oysters on the half shell and all of them disappointed. While size was on par with other oysters they all tasted more briny and not as buttery. The most redeeming part of the restaurant is the bar and dessert. I ordered the barrel aged old fashioned which runs sweeter than most but still excellent. My partner got the house mojito which was light and refreshing. Definitely good for summer. For dessert we got the seasonal peach jar pie. It was huge, definitely enough to share. The whipped cream tasted fluffy and fresh and the peaches tasted sweet. An honorable mention also goes to the devils on horseback which is a bacon wrapped date stuffed with cheese. The brunch drink menu didn't have much as I'd expect from a brunch spot but there is an old fashioned and anything a bar can make too (mimosas!). Started off with the tator tots which were recommended in reviews and these were different, and amazing - perfect to share. For entrees got the Pub Burger and Pork Cheek Hash. Everyone at our table enjoyed what we got. I've been told dinner here is great as well so I am looking forward to trying that menu. read more

Next up...(a continuation of a food journey) My second stop on this culinary adventure through Columbus was Pearl. This Gastropub relaxed environment was a surprise given my knowledge of all the Cameron Mitchell concepts are fine dining. This rustic and straightforward approach to food was delightful. Eric, my server, was a true pleasure. He was engaging knowledgeable about the menu to include recommending new dishes such as the flank steak with kimchi fried rice and a sunny side up egg (no pictures because my phone battery was dying). Still, I must say the cocktails were great. I started with a bourbon bacon cocktail made by a person named Kate whose roommate Katie was my server/bartender at Martini (which speaks so highly of the family atmosphere of all the Cameron Mitchell concepts. This drink was AMAZING! The perfect mix of bourbon and topped with a candied piece of bacon--what could be better than bacon...bacon makes everything better. I started with the New Orleans-style baked oysters, which was terrific. My spouse is from New Orleans78 so I've had great char-grilled oysters everytime I visit...these were amazing. My server Eric suggested the flank steak and kimchi fried rice topped with a friend egg, the presentation was amazing and all elements of the dish cooked perfectly. I liked the shrimp and grits a bit more for flavor and despite the excessive al dente celery and broth that accompanied the creamy gouda cheese grits. Eric suggested an amazing desert made with hommade Vanilla Ice Cream and a cookie crust. I was surprised to see Amberlyn, a Regional Manager, in the resturant who took time to sit and chat a bit. I love how engaged leaders at all levels are in the resturant and how she and all of the associates engaged with guest to make them/ us feel like more than customers but like family.. My boyfriend and I went here for our 1 year anniversary - its one of our favorite places. We made a reservation, as well since it's a happening spot. We ordered the fried pickles and Jalapeño Corn Spoon Bread as a starter, as always they were both so good - those two starters NEVER disappoint. The starters filled us up and we ordered the Pub Burger to split, its our literal favorite burger in Columbus. They always cut the burger for us to split, the fries on separate plates, we always appreciate that level of customer service. Since it was our anniversary they gave us a slice of their pie of the day, it was a toffee brown sugar pie. The pie was so darn good, we loved it not too sweet at all. Yum!!! Went here for Valentine's Day with my husband and another couple. Wild since I haven't dined out with anyone in about a year. We ordered the jalapeño spoon bread and omg I would go back just for it! The bread outdid the entree! We had plenty of cocktails, they had a special rum drink that my husband really enjoyed. Both guys at the table had the braised short rib which vanished within 5 minutes of arrival. Ha! I had the attic char which was fantastic and a great portion and someone else at our table had the steak which she said melts in your mouth. Oh she also had oysters which I can't stand but she loved. To end the night my husband and I had their crack pie which was absolutely amazing and I ate too much of. They had the snickers pie which was huge and looked delicious.
