Filet with enoki mushroom gravy. Really savory.
    Ronald C.

Filet Mingon with enoki mushroom gravy was quite good ($52). The meat was only about 1" thick or less so the thick side was still pink but not the thin side, however it was still tender. Really savory with the dark almost salty gravy. N.B. You notice the menu changes occasionally which shows the creativity of the kitchen, something you will appreciate.

We come to Peppermill at least once or twice a week and we typically have happy hour. We meet our friends up here and have lived in Tempe for 26 years but only recently discovered the Peppermill about a year ago. The owners are awesome. Kate is awesome as a server! And the ambience and the service is amazing. We decided to pull from the dinner menu tonight instead of happy hour and we were not disappointed. Everything from rack of lamb to ravioli in Bolognese sauce we're all served with a custom touch and full of flavor. Come to the Peppermill it does not disappoint!

Peppermill Burger comes with fries was beyond yummy. The fries had a seasoning and were cooked well done. It also had cheese curds.

This was our first time there and for sure wants to go back. Everything was very good food and so much. Our service was very good, would like her to come back more to keep my drinks filled but that's ok as they provided water. Over all awesome place if you would like a place to go for a drink and very good food.

Chef's whim, seafood in a creamy tomato sauce. So good.

Recommend: Yes! Food: Delicious Service: excellent! Ambience: small place. Can be loud if there's a lot of people or quiet and romantic when it's not as busy. Note: Please be patient for food. They have a small kitchen but they sure do serve delicious food. This place is like a hidden gem. I'm would want to keep this place to myself but I can't do that if I want to support them! Honestly this place is one of my top favorite. I love that they have chef's whim. It is adventurous, fun, and it's always so delicious. Give this place a try if you haven't.

Steak and Frits Au Poivre. Poivre not so much

Decided to try and again after a couple years. Has been a hit or miss experience. Another miss today. Had the corn bread escargot appetizer which took an awful a long time to be served to us and when served the server, let us know that they were out of the pork chop so my friend had to order something else quickly. The cornbread escargot was more like a croissant on top of the overly chewy escargot. I had the Steak and Frits Au Poivre. Steak was two large pieces and cooked perfectly but the sauce was not much more than a gravy. Partner ordered the Mixed Grill bowl and while it was a large portion of everything was not as expected and a little too much spice. Sent it back and passed on ordering anything else. Service was just fine but not anything to bring me back.

Ok this steakhouse is in a strip mall. Don't let that deter you!!!! The waitstaff is in jeans and they're very approachable and courteous. Super nice and attentive. The FOOD!!! Holy smokes! We got the pork belly wedge. This would have been enough. This salad was legit!!! We got the pepper roasted short rib with polenta... it was perfect!! That little poblano flavor sauce with the perfect texture of polenta and the meat was perfectly rendered. It comes with this crazy flavorful corn that is out of this world. We got the steak frites as well and it was perfectly cooked and the fries were perfect but it couldn't hold a candle to the other menu items we got.

First time visiting the Peppermill. Cute little quaint restaurant. Didn't have reservations but got a table for 2. More than 2 definitely make a reservation. We did the chef surprise appetizer which was an octopus dish, surprisingly delicious. I had the short ribs which were tasty but super fatty. My husband had a steak dish that was much better. Open to trying again.

I was underwhelmed with multiple aspects. The server seemed like we were the biggest inconvenience on her day coming during happy hour (we were the only customers present), and then proceeded to change out her nicotine pouch from her lip on the floor. As far as food is concerned, my party ordered the shrimp cocktail, steamed mussels, and half chicken. This was after we had looked at the menu on their website to see if we were interested in their fare and decided yes based on that information. Almost none of the food on their menu online was the food on their menu in person. I understand if you're going to have a rotating menu, but wouldn't you stipulate that menu items are subject to change? I liked my mussels enough, but would ultimately steer away from them. Never have I ever spat out food in public, but the broth it was served in was laden with broken pieces of shell that were unavoidable in the combination of the restaurant's low light and inability to discern shell between herbs. Being a landlocked state and all, I understand the need for frozen fish, but not beating the ever loving life out of it to thaw, which is what I imagine happened. The chicken was oddly sweet, and the shrimp cocktail was to be expected from a shrimp cocktail. Overall, I was just disappointed.

My favorite restaurant in Phoenix. It's very understated but if their stuff was served at a Michelin star restaurant, i wouldn't think twice about it. It's owned by a couple. The wife runs the bar. The husband runs the kitchen and it's very cute. The music and vibes were great. Get the Chef's Whim. It's a very unique aspect of the restaurant that I haven't seen anywhere else.

My husband took us here for a cocktail and a couple appetizers as part of our anniversary date. the strawberry rhubarb martini was absolutely amazing!! nice fresh strawberry flavor, slightly sweet, and packed a punch!! the calamari with kimchi aioli was delicious also, and the tuna tartar with house-made chips ; to die for nice experience, with great food!! excited to come in for an actual meal soon!

Bummer this is not a great review as this was our neighborhood favorite. Normally this is a great place. Three in the kitchen and three supporting tables and it took 45 minutes to get our food and when we asked about how much longer it would be they said this was normal and looked at us like we were crazy for asking. There were three other groups for a total of 12 guests in the restaurant. Food was good at least.

Steak Fact: Steak gets its name from Scandinavia. The Scandinavian word "steik," which refers to a thick cut of meat for roasting or grilling, dates back to about the mid-15th century. Eventually, the term evolved into the modern English "steak." I came here for my birthday dinner this year and it was amazing. Cocobana Cooler, PB&J Pork Belly, Bone Marrow in herby butter sauce, and 16 oz. ribeye with green beans and potatoes au gratin? Yes, Yes, YES! While everything was on the heavier side in terms of seasoning, not one bad bite was had. The flavors, the cook on the meat, the sips... all amazing. I wouldn't mind coming back just to order a bunch of appetizers to share. I was so amazed by this place. One of my friends ordered the Chef's Whim, which ended up being a beautiful dish of surf and turf. It looked tasty. The thing that I didn't enjoy was that they required you to give your credit card info when making reservations over the phone, which is the only way you can make reservations at all. I would have preferred and felt more comfortable making reservations online or through an app and leaving my credit card info there instead.

They are not open on Sundays as posted on their website? The Sunday hours have also been taken off the door?!

Hi Amy, Know that the website states they are open on Sundays. When I went there they had hours post as the website. I would recommend to give them a call to make sure.…

Can you make a reservation ahead of time?

Yes, but looks like you have to call them. No online option.

The Taste of Tempe is going on right now and although we looked over the simple fixed price menu, decided to go with their lasagna and Caesar salad. Salad was fresh and really good and loved the addition of the fried capers for that salty bite. Their dressing is a bit different than others, not as goopy and thick as some Caesar dressings can be. There are also tasted bread crumbs in place of chunks of croutons. I truly loved it! Their lasagna is so good! Their sauce is a combo of beef and pork Bolognese so it's more on the creamy side with the tang of the tomato base and according to the menu, the cream comes from their cream sauce. Together, it creates a tasty addition to the layers of noodles and the serving size was perfect to share for two. Friend had the ravioli, which is served in a creamy mushroom sauce with a hint of the truffle and thyme. I had to try and bite and would definitely have this dish next time. Light and delicious. For dessert we were recommended the tiramisu and that was not disappointing in the least! Layers of lady fingers and whipped mascarpone was so good and not overly sweet. Both the wife and friend topped their meal off with a limoncello, which we learned was made in-house. Wife said it was strong but loved that lemon flavor. Overall a great first experience and we'll definitely be back! They are located next door to Freely Tap House and we learned they are owned by same owners. Really wonderful!

Came with some friends for dinner, one of them hadn't been before so we were glad to introduce her to this gem. Four sticks to an order along with a small bowl of their wonderful marinara sauce. They were lightly breaded and fried to perfection and when you bit into one, you got that mozzarella pull! We decided to try the pizza salad this time around and so glad we did because it was truly delicious.
