Standard pub fare. Beer and a garlic stuffed cheese bread with fresh bruschetta. Relatively good. Fried asparagus was light and tasty with a crunchy batter that was not at all greasy. I ordered my usual trip tip prepared thick slice which wasn't being served except through the Bar menu. I got my food and the tri tip was well done and I specifically ordered as medium or rare if possible. The waitress had the deer in the headlight look when my wife showed her the tri tip salad in which the eat was rare to medium perfect. So I asked the waitress why wasn't my meat prepared correctl. She responded as to suggest I didn't specify rare or medium. Not true!. Then she came to her senses and said let's have your meal redone. At this time we waited 45 min already for our food. So reluctantly agreed. When the remake came they had left half of the tri tip the same and slid two pieces under the bread and called it good (very tacky) The waitress said the owner prepared the correction. It was terrible! I paid the bill and left very disappointed. It just shows any restaurant will let you down sooner than later. I think I'll retract my suggestions and referrals to warnings. Have been there twice this week once on Sunday, service was good but we could hear two people fighting in the kitchen and it made the whole experience very uncomfortable. Didn't help my burger was thrown together. My bun was burnt the lettuce was brown there was one tomato on one side of my sandwich and i had asked for med rare and it came out well. It also looked like they had cut my child's burger with a dirty knife. There was a green substance on it. I'm assuming avocado since someone at our table had a TBA. One star... Ended up reluctantly coming back for lunch Tuesday. But being surprised that the quality of the food that day was more how I remember it being in the past. We love the Peppery and every time we are in Sonora this is our go to place to eat. Favorites include the shrimp appetizers. Another item that we always order is the clam chowder...we even get it to go. They have a specials menu that I keep track of on their FB page. I really like that the food has a little kick to it. I've been to the peppery about 4 times, and as I am someone who hates change I order the same thing everytime i am there. I order a dinner item and it is suppose to come with a side of bread and butter. 1 out of the 4 times I did not get it, and EACH and everytime the dish tasted completely different. The last time I got this dish I had more chicken then I did pasta, like they were trying to hide the fact that they were short of tortellinis buy covering it with a slab of chicken. I'm not saying the dish was inedible, but I am still searching for the flavors this dish once had when I first ordered it because now it just taste like a bland oily chicken mess. If I was just reviewing the waiters it would be a 5/5 as they are always so nice and accommodating, they deserve tips people!! read more

One of our favorite regular spots. Even when it's packed, we still get seated quickly and served timely as well. It's been a very rare occurrence that a server has forgotten about us or our food wasn't exactly as ordered. The fries are the best, especially with a side of Pepper Plant and ranch. I have to thank my family for introducing my husband, kids and I to the Peppery. The fried artichoke hearts are simply the BEST! If you like fried, light, crispy and seasoned just enough...try this on for size. I didn't believe it when I first heard about it but boy, we were sold from bite#1! The hubby and finicky kids really enjoyed the food. We've tried so many of the dishes and a few other appetizers in our numerous visits to Sonora. Their assortment of beers (microbrews) are fantastic and we try new ones every visit. Yes, it's part restaurant, part sports bar but I like the open seating. It's great especially when the owner stops by our table to ask how our meal and service were. I know on 1 occasion, 1 person in our group didn't get everything they ordered but the staff were quick to correct the problem. (How many times have we all been in that situation but the staff were indifferent to the complaint?) The wait and bus staff are very, VERY friendly and helpful. We try to tell as many people as we know to try it out. We've even bought some of the Pepper sauce to bring home for a little flare at home. The rating should really be 4 3/4 because the only thing I find unsatisfactory is the layout of the parking lot. They do have disabled parking but when that small-ish lot fills up, you get the joy of parking up an uneven hill. (never mind the fact that that area gets snow and the lot can ice up. My family used to go here all the time and since our Gma just passed we thought we would go for lunch and it would maybe bring back some family memories. The place looks the same as always but the food on the other hand was nothing like we remembered. I've had the gumbo many times in the past so ordered it expecting to get what was served before. This was not the case. It was a dark brown color, very off putting with pools of grease through out. I still tried it of course but it was terrible. No spice what so ever... I had the other adults at the table try it and everyone hated it. Our fried asparagus had no flavor and even had pieces sticking together(something even fast food workers are taught when learning to deep fry foods) so it was all doughy and gross inside. One sandwich came extremely toasted black when someone asked for it to not be toasted at all. Dry pulled pork sandwich was served to my boyfriend. My best friend ordered a different sandwich and she had whole pieces of peppercorn in it I won't ever go back since not one plate was good and we even had to hunt down our waitress for boxes. Never were offered desert or refills. Just basically never came back to the table after checking in on us one time after the food was given. Hanging out with the other waitress seemed more important? I was born and raised on the coast of Maine. So, when we eat out, we always try to order Clam Chowder, (my wife and I) WORST CLAM CHOWDER WE'VE EVER HAD!! We've always had great food at the Peppery. My favorite is their buffalo wings. I'm pretty snobby about buffalo wings and usually frown on variations of the traditional butter/Tabasco sauce but the Peppery's are amazing. Jumbo drumettes fried (never battered!) to crisp perfection and drenched in some kind of spicy, peppery, ever so slightly sweet sauce. They come with ranch, but I always ask for blue cheese dressing. So heavenly, I've even gotten a whole second order to take home. Last night, in addition to the wings, my boyfriend had their skirt steak and shrimp with jalapeño mashed potatoes and I had the New York steak sandwich with sweet potato fries. (Tip: if you're hankering for steak but don't want to break the bank, check the menu for a steak sandwich! Great way to have steak cooked to order at way less than the price of a full platter.) Both were wonderful. Meat cooked perfectly medium rare. The sweet potato fries came piping hot, crusted with spicy seasoning and salt flakes, and were crispy outside, creamy inside. Perfect. We were so full we couldn't think about dessert. In the past I've also enjoyed their steak fajita salad and several of their pasta dishes. Their scratch made sauces, seasonings, and dressings are where the Peppery really shines. The service is always great. They are consistently one of the best restaurants in Sonora. We have stopped here occasionally and it has always been good, but this last time was just plain awful. The service was good but the food not. My Wife has the philly cheese sandwich and the meat so so over cooked it was like leather. The sandwich was also dry. Same thing on my pastrami, dry. And that mustard aioli or whatever they call it was horrible. We usually get a burger here and that's what I would have if we ever go back. We used to LOVE The Peppery. The service has gone down dramatically. Six months ago, my husband and I got married. We chose to have our dinner here immediately following our wedding. It was my husband, myself and our two daughters. I was in my wedding dress! The waitress never said a word. No "congratulations", no special dessert, nothing. My oldest daughter even told the server "they just got married today!". We certainly didn't rely on them to make us feel special but it sure would've been nice to see a little effort.
