The Oak Ridge Animal clinic front desk person is nice, but the VET Dr. was arrogant and was clearly angry when questioned about the use of this Merck brand Rabies shot and was quick to say it was state law.... it aint State law to select a new technology rabies vaccine but their choice. There are at least six other options available. This Vet had no solution other than telling me they would not do the Neuter without this shot. That was the end of that. Made my decision to move on quicky easy! Thank you, Oak Ridge Animal Clinic, for driving a customer away. I took this experience as a lesson as a consumer to do my research and make MY choice on where to trust my Shiba Inu puppy. The puppy has no choice so its my job to try to make a decision with the least amount of risk. This VET was no help in that effort. I was able to find another nearby VET who was very open and transparent and willing to discuss options. What a refreshing difference. Now I have a place to go for VET Service.

I contacted the vet this morning to schedule an appt. Was told $82 for the exam with the clause that the vet may or may not charge for the exam. Confused by that statement I asked for a further explanation of this. Apon explanation I advised that it didn't sound right, and proclaimed that there may be a misunderstanding as what you just said sounds like a scam. I paraphrased what I thought she MIGHT be trying to explain as: During the exam if it's determined Euthanasia is the right move or in the best interest of the animal we won't charge, however if a viable path to vitality was determined an exam fee would be collected. She stated that was NOT how it worked - our policy requires all animals to be examined annually. Advising they would have to perform the exam to determine if an exam would be needed for the Euthanasia procedure. She again advised it's up to the vet. I asked if I could speak to vet to find out, and she advised I was speaking with the vet. The conversation then devolved to someone saying 'our policy' instead of reaching an alternative path or resource with the animal's quality of life in question. Nice job showing those true colors; malice or ignorance? Either way it's the quiet part out loud. Because if you lived down here instead of the soap box your standing on, you'd already have an alternative path to advise in euthanasia situations where yours isn't the right option but the soul in question is still in need, it's called compassion, critical-thinking and empathy - it allows you to solve things that benefit those other than yourself. My good boy is the sweetest boy, he doesn't deserve an old boy's pain because he's a got a poor man with some limitations, this isn't the first time my interactions with you left me feeling either mislead or made me feel like a pariah. I remember a story about a dentist that would check your blood pressure, swipe your card from the chair, then show you their written policy of not conducting the procedure if your BP is in a given range while ushering you out the door. Now I've got a similar story for the water cooler when something like that comes up. My connection to ORAC dates back 60+ years. Yes, I know they haven't been around THAT long but hear me out. The clinic my grandparents took their pets to in the 60's and 70's recommended a vet practicing in the Conroe area when they built in the Rayford Rd. area in the late 70's. This vet eventually recommended a vet tech at ORAC sometime in the 90's. It's quite an old torch that's been passed down and around, and today I'm putting it out and wanted to alert you, citing todays interaction as the final straw.

She wanted $1600 to sedate him just to take a look at what was going on. I mainly brought him because he was shaking his head a lot showing signs his ears were bothering him. She never looked in his ears. Said he was being to difficult for her to swab them to test. Then when we finally got the swab done she said their machines to test it were down but that he has a yeast infection in his ears. Charged us $70 for that test that they weren't even able to run. The discharge papers say "possible ear infection" "vitals were unable to obtain" we paid $700 basically for some medicine we could have got on Amazon for $50. I had to take him to another vet the next morning. Just avoid this place.

My oldest dog, a Cocker Spaniel, was experiencing a lot of problems. After many costly tests at my previous vet, I could not get a definitive diagnosis of Cushing's Disease. I came to 1488 where Dr. Lindsay Helton reviewed the lab result copies I brought with me, they did a thorough exam, and determined she's just a "crunchy older dog" a lot of arthritis and a thyroid issue. She was prescribed a daily anti-inflammatory, a pain reliever and Levothyroxine and she's all frisky and engaged and like her younger self again! Dr. Green has been treating my 9 year old Cocker Spaniel who has kidney disease. When she was in the process of diagnosing my dog, each step of the way Dr. Green offered me various options/cost of diagnosis. We were able to progress conservatively and continue to manage my dog's health problems without breaking the bank. My third, younger dog, a Dachsund/Beagle mix, has a skin allergy issue. Dr. Amy Bleibury has primarily handled his case and again, we were able to take a conservative approach and have his allergies under control. Lastly, when my Mom's dog passed away, FM 1488 AMC was able to guide us to a caring pet crematory who came to my Mom's home to pick up her dog. All the vets we've interacted with have given us top-notch care and I've ALWAYS been given the options from "If money were no object..." to conservative, cost effective steps for care and diagnosis. Veterinary care is does not come cheap, and unfortunately, animal medical insurance isn't that great. I have no objection to paying fair and reasonable costs for great care of my animals which is what I've found at this clinic. As a final comment, I must say the all the vets are so kind and loving and care for my dogs as as if they were their own. They very patiently explain everything and answer all my questions. The front desk staff is terrific and efficient despite a very thriving practice and the vet techs all really seem to love their jobs and their patients. I also love the ease of their on line pharmacy!

Instead they made my family wait an hour in the exam room. Even then we had to ask someone to come in and help us. At that point the Vet came in as arrogant POS. Then proceeded to try and charge us $400 to put my dog down. $65 for the exam that wasn't necessary and $100 for the meds. So where did the extra $235 come from? I feel they just want to take advantage of a grieving family. Trying to get every dollar they can while you're obviously upset. All of that said, your pets deserve better. Don't take them here for anything.

During my tour they told me that it was to prevent them from being picked up by a large bird. (What) They had several dogs with a large cardboard in front of the crate because they were barking too much. I had asked for a bath before bringing him home and they told me they do not give baths, first kennel I have ever been to that doesn't have a bathing option. They do allow the dogs out to play and depending on their size is which yard they go in. The report card I got when I picked him up was trash. They decided to rate my dog. Who do you think you are. My dog ended up coming home with a skin bacteria that I had to deal with from their unsanitary kennels and play areas. NEVER EVER WILL I BRING MY BABY HERE AGAIN!

Not an ounce of compassion, only want money, money, money. I had no idea my regular veterinarian was no longer there. Every time I'd call for an appointment, they would say "we can get you in on this day/time, but it won't be with your regular vet", as if to imply my regular vet is not available on that day only. Come to find out, my vet hasn't been there in months, and the new vet apparently doesn't know how to read previous medical records. Knew absolutely nothing about my pets history, and didn't bother to ask. When checking out I realized they added prescriptions to my bill which I had declined with the veterinarian (which I tried to explain was due to a previous allergic reaction, but they would not listen), so when I tried to decline the prescription again when paying my bill, they basically told me I was going to kill my pet if I didn't give them this rx. Ummm... you mean you're going to kill my pet because you didn't look at their history and have no idea you are prescribing something that almost killed my pet in the past. Never again. Not telling me that my regular veterinarian is no longer at the clinic is one thing. But to not bother with my pets important history, that is just pure negligence.
