The Petite Retreat is a cute little business located within the Heights. There is plenty of street parking and private lot parking. You enter the building and mention your appointment time to confirm. The front receptionist will give you a new patient information sheet if you are a first-timer at this location. Please wear a mask! I was greeted by the same person who did my massage and facial in the room. I believe this was to reduce the exposure to different clientele, masseuse, and aesthetician during COVID-19. Aromatherapy Facial (1 hour): No extraction is included this facial. I feel like the same 4 products were used 3-4X in this 1-hour facial. How do I know? One of the products was quite irritating to my face.... a very slow burn every time it was applied. I would not do this again. Ultimate/Petite Retreat Signature Massage (1.5 hours): It seems 1.5 hours was equally spread out with 3 sections - back, legs, then upper. Some parts were decent without much pressure. I've experienced better body massages, but I give credit that I was about to fall asleep at the end. It was halfway of this massage when the hot stones were placed. There are 2-3 different essential oils used for aromatherapy. Extra $30 for CBD incorporation. Per its website, "Hemp CBD targets pain, reduces inflammation, reduces soreness from a deep tissue massage, and promotes calmness." Would I come back? I've been coming to Petite Retreat for a couple of years, I've always had a great experience but Saturday's couples massage experience was disappointing. We were given forms to fill out like we did when we 1st started coming here, I did tell the lady when we turned the form in that we are repeat customers she said oh I'll check and staple it to your file. The massages did not last a full hour, I snapped a picture of my mimosa at 11:58 while filling out forms in the lobby, we were done and getting dressed at 1:01. The hot stones consisted of putting a couple of stones in the center of our backs and were not used during the rest of the massage. Because this experience was not like the ones we had there in the past , I believe in supporting small businesses and we have enjoyed our past experiences, I did try to call and speak to a manager to verbally share my feedback but unfortunately I did not get a return call nor a response to my email requesting a call. read more

This is what you might call a confirmational review, since I chose The Petite Retreat based on its excellent reviews on Yelp. I had muscle pain that needed treatment on a Sunday morning. Who gives massages on Sunday? The Petite Retreat, I was relieved to learn. I booked a 90-minute session for that afternoon. The sage-green Victorian where the business is located was simple to find. It's in a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood on the north side of Washington Avenue. Parking can be competitive there, but The Petite Retreat accommodates clients with private parking, both in its broad driveway and its side parking lot - a nice benefit when you're striving to be on time. The building has been added on to in interesting ways, so the reception area is a divided space. Original art, plus a baby grand with a chandelier over it, add to the atmosphere of relaxed luxe. I was assigned Cheryl as my masseuse. She guided me to a spacious treatment room in back, with massage table at center and a side table bearing an array of carrier oils, essential oils and other potions. Cheryl did an excellent job of giving a thorough massage, while paying special attention to the area where I was experiencing pain. I appreciated her responsive in using pressure that was firm but avoided adding to the pain. Cheryl sent me out the door with a large bottle of special water. I must admit I had trouble understanding the details of its special health-giving properties, but I trust Cheryl to do right by me. read more

For my birthday this year, my friends gave me a certificate to The Petite Retreat for an ultimate massage. I was in the midst of finals and my back had been knotting up from the stress. I mentioned this to my therapist, Yasmin, and she focused on that area during my massage (while also giving generalized attention to the rest of my body). The hot towels and hot stones were heavenly and I was definitely very relaxed during the massage and afterwards. Yasmin let me pick an aroma, but I just went with lavender because it's so calming and gentle. It wasn't overwhelming at all. The receptionist and Yasmin were both very nice and friendly. When I arrived, I was sat in the waiting area. The receptionist offered me a glass of wine and some fruit. The fruit was very fresh and refreshing. I was the last appointment of the day and didn't feel rushed at all, even after the appointment. Yasmin let me sit in the waiting area to finish my glass of wine. She also mentioned my back was super tight but she didn't want to do a deep tissue massage bc I had asked for firm pressure (as opposed to deep), and she didn't want me to be too sore. Hated my experience. From location to every service rendered I was totally disappointed. I thought I was going to a high end luxury spa. Everything looked old and dingy. And completely overpriced. They're running a scam. Because the service I got for that price doesn't make any type of sense. I've gotten 60$ massages that were better than what I got and I spent 500$ on a couples massage. BEST SPA COMBO OF MY LIFE...and I'm a spa frequenter. Sooo hubs is out of town and on Friday I felt the spirit move me to get a treatment on Saturday. I looked at Groupon and those avenues for a deal yada yada and the ones they offered didn't either appeal or didn't have an opening next day. Well, first issue with other places is I couldn't find a place that answered their phones at 5pm. Petite Retreat answered right away and had availability. Win. I wanted a couple/few treatments if pricing was reasonable. If you're indecisive or like recommendations, try this combo for $200. Mud wrap, then 30 min full body massage, and end with a facial. Here's the experience. My friend recommended I try a mud wrap because it's great for your skin, fun to get scrubbed and remove all the dead skin and pump up your circulation. The mud wrap is an hour and loved it. You don't feel like you're being sandpapered, more like a therapeutic dry scrub with essential oils, followed by a mud application. You get all wrapped up and cozy, and while it dries a bit you get a scalp massage (omg), and a foot massage. Think hot towels and hot stones and zen. Once the mud treatment sets, Carmen (request Carmen!!!!!) cleans it up with hot towels and sends you to the shower. I was in the shower about 10-15 min because I was enjoying it. Keep in mind if you have another treatment, pay attention to your timing because you're booked for a certain amount of time (2 hours for me) so you can take time away from your next treatment. The shower products are the same brand as their lotions and oils. I looked to see where they were made and they're made in Houston, which adds a lil somethin to them sourcing local awesome products. As with scalp massages, your hair because a hot mess so the shower was useful and you rinse off any mud that's still on you. Now you're clean. The massage that followed was heavenly. You're clean and now your body absorbs in all the hydration so made sense and I got my clean on. Carmen has awesome hands. I'm somewhere in between a deep tissue and relaxing so she understood the combo, confirmed pressure worked for me, and did her magic. Sometimes I'm chatty, sometimes I'm not, however for massages I appreciate someone letting me be in the moment and enjoy the tranquility so I can focus on my breathing, on paying attention to the work being done, and not distracting. She's got a great tempo, almost rhythmic, and the repetitive movements add to the relaxation. We ended with the facial. No extractions we're done, no steam, it was more of a gentle scrub, cleansing, and lotion along with an actual face and foot massage, oh and arms. I've had hundreds of massages and I can't think of a time I've had an actual face massage where they work your temples, eyelids, cheeks, and area around the mouth. Really nice. I also bought a couple of aromatherapy rollers because they smell so fantastic. I bought Happy and Stress Relief, each being $12.50. How to describe the ambiance. It feels like a bed and breakfast of massages. It's a house, lots of street and private parking. You feel like you're at a get away, not like a booming spa that's bustling and winding with rooms. I enjoyed that. You have access to water, fruit water, wine options, light snacks and fruit, oh and tea. Checking in took about 3 min with the form for your aesthetician/masseuse. Just really relaxing environment. I prefer morning massages, so I was booked from 10am-noon. I can't say enough good things. So much so, that I called 3 friends and told them the name of the place and who to request. I usually go to Milk + Honey, which is still awesome and professional, just a different experience. Here you get really personal attention in a non-stressful environment, no worries about parking and waiting (for me), and they're really attentive. I'll be back as soon as possible lol. read more

Immediately welcomed and checked in. Paperwork was minimal. And that section you fill out at a massage place that target your areas??? Well they USE that!! Love! Jacuzzi: you're taken into a private room that leads to the outdoor jacuzzi. You change into your swimsuit and the robe and sandals are optional. We were led outside to a private enclosed area. It's covered and the jets are perfect. I'm short so there were areas safe for shorties. Massage: was a couples massage. We were escorted to a double massage bed room. Dim. Perfect air. Comfortable beds. My massage therapist was Carmen I believe. Head to toe. Attention to the areas I filled out on the sheet. Paid attention to my shoulders front to back. Perfect tension on the massage. Some areas she was firm. Some soft. Some in between. Excellent job! The best massage I've had ever!!! We opted for the Japanese reflexology massage. OMG!!! Hot stones. I have already been here three times and I really like it! I am pregnant, so I was going to get a prenatal massage. My massages were done by Yazmin, who was absolutely fabulous! She made me feel very comfortable, took her time with my massage, and made sure she treated my pregnant self with care. For the prenatal massages, I did them laying on my sides. I do not know if they have one of those belly pillows so you can lay face down. This was not an issue for me though, I still enjoyed it! Anyways, the place is cute and clean. It is in a house which I think is adorable. I also did go with my husband to get a couples massage and we shared a room. He said his massage was good, but would have liked more pressure(his fault, he didn't speak up). Great place! Will keep referring people there. read more

I booked a couples massage and facial for me and my boyfriend, it was his first massage ever. We both enjoyed the services, I would give this a 5 but my only complaint is that the day before the massage I received a text asking if I had a gender preference for the massage therapist and I replied (remember this is a couples massage) that my boyfriend preferred a female and I had no preference. When we went into the room a male and a female came in however the female was giving the facials and the male the massage. In the long run it didn't matter because once Sebastian began the massage my boyfriend didn't care whether it was a male or female, he just loved it! I believe Carmella was the name of the person who did the facials, for me the facial was ok, nothing special but still relaxing. The massage on the other hand...Sebastian worked magic! I love that he paid attention to the fact that I wrote down I had a shoulder injury so he inquired about it and made sure the whole time I was comfortable and did not hurt me at all. At the time of my visit, the new address was not displaying on google/gps so (unbeknownst to me) I arrived at the old location (which is now a law firm). Rather confused, I called to get the new address and I thought I was going to be late to my appointment, but fortunately I was on time. I see that Petite Retreat has since updated the address across yelp and google. The ambiance/massage itself: The whole ambiance of this place is super relaxing. They serve fresh fruit before your massage, along with your choice of beverage (hot tea, water, champagne, etc). The massage was great. My partner and I got the date night package with the jacuzzi and a eucalyptus shower. And lemme tell you, neither of us have been that relaxed in years! And it starts as soon as you walk in. The atmosphere is quiet but in a comfortable way, the entire building smells of calming essential oils. And the staff are all very kind and attentive. We brought champagne and they chilled it for us and also gave us plenty of complimentary drinks. The jacuzzi can fit about 4 people comfortably, so plenty of space for two people. After the jacuzzi we took the eucalyptus shower, the bathroom smelled amazing! And the bathroom light can dim so you can have a low light shower. After we dried off we got our massages. We payed for and hour and got every pennies worth! The massage therapist were great and spoke with us about what areas we wanted the most work done before hand. It was really cozy and romantic. We got the date night package and added on the eucalyptus shower and a jacuzzi soak. The shower is a big walk-in and they use a diffuser for the eucalyptus oil. The jacuzzi hot tub is on a private hidden patio and is big enough for four adults comfortably. Our therapists Brenda and Jen were sweet and knowledgeable and gave us more than enough time to change our clothes at a leisurely pace. Everything was done at a leisurely pace! Excellent customer service from everyone. We even got the privilege of meeting the owner, who gave us a tour of the retro upstairs. I went to The Petite Retreat for a 90 minute massage, and it was a wonderful experience. My therapist, Yazmin, and the receptionist met me at the door making me feel right at home. Yazmin is a very experienced therapist and she gave me the best massage I have had, hitting all my body aches and pains. Today I feel great and I look forward to returning on a regular basis. The warm feel of the rooms and the fruit, water and refreshments after the massage are a great addition to the experience. My daughter and I went to Petite Retreat for a joint birthday/mother's day gift and had a mommy/daughter massage. It was wonderful. It was my daughter's very first massage and it was a great experience for her. It was also her birthday and they were kind enough to bring out a small chocolate cake big enough for just the two of us. I have been to quite a few places to get massages, including some pretty expensive, "upscale" places on the east coast and this was BY FAR the best massage.We both fell asleep. At some waking point I wondered to myself how this was only a 90 minute event because I felt like I had been there for hours. TBH, I've been working pretty hard so I have to recognize that maybe I just needed this more this time than some of the other times. Nevertheless, it was great and I highly recommend it. The single reason I did not give 5 stars is because the parking situation is not great. I think there are 3 or 4 spots reserved for the shop, and when I arrived, they were all taken. I was only a few minutes early (5-10, maybe). There was one spot remaining in that small area and i wasn't sure where else I could park (again, this could be on their website and I just missed it). I LOOOOOVED my massage - Joel was awesome! Parking was easy (right in front) and it's in a cute little house. Everything was clean, calm and quiet. Oh, and the massage lasted a full 60 min - yay! He focused on the areas I requested, and he was very consistent with pressure. He never got annoyed at my frequent questions either :) My only feedback is that the tip recommendation guide was a bit...awkward.
