I really do love this place. I have docked one star because inside is kind of embarrassing (I think hole in the wall, dive). I don't super care myself, but I like to take friends to get delicious food (which these guys have), but I'm always embarrassed to bring them in. Ha ha English chips are always super hot and fresh out the fryer. Cheesesteak with onions peppers and mushrooms with tomatoes and pickles on top are my jam. 10/10 would recommend the food (although it is greasy, so buckle up) 5/10 for the restaurant condition. We wanted sandwiches before the RSL game and ended up at The Philadelphian. My husband and I had been here before, but it'd been quite some time so we thought we'd give it another try and it was delicious. My husband ordered the Philly, while I got the Turkey, Avocado, and Sprouts and my son chose chicken and fries. Oh let's not forget the side of fried mushrooms. I was in Sandy and craving cheesecake so I decided to go try this place and was not disappointed! I should've ordered the 4", I ordered the 6" but they gave me the 8" which is pictured below, with the half order of fries, which was huge, I couldn't eat it all! Was so much food! Delicious but so filling! Service was great, but A/C is lacking so don't go in and eat on a hot day if you need it to be cool. This is a hole in the wall spot in Sandy. Old and worn out, nothing fancy, you can see them prep and cook right behind the cashier. Unfortunately their Philly cheesesteak wasn't the best I've had in salt lake. Their other sandwiches are good though. English chips are awesome. Huge portions. A true Hole in the Wall kind of restaurant- it was a very busy Saturday night when we came for our 1st visit! People here are supper nice and we decided ahead of time to order a 8 inch Philly and we weren't disappointed! Our Philly was full of meat and spicy pepper just as we ordered- it was so yummy and we will be back to try their home made onion rings and English chips (. They were out of English chips and awaiting a delivery). They were crazy busy but the staff was making a huge effort getting orders out ! Their customer service is lacking. I am a disabled veteran with a service dog. I was at the restaurant on 3/2/2026 about 7:15 pm. I had my service dog with me. I was refused service by an employee that indicated it was his place. The employees 3 of them refused me service saying my dog was not allowed in. When I tried to explain he is a service dog they requested documentation and insisted he was required to be in a vest. In an attempt to stand up for my rights the employee that identified himself as the owner called me an asshole and said it was his right to refuse service to me. My Son was with me and told me I was firm in my point but was not an asshole about it. I will not be returning to this place and I recommend you don't if you support Veterans and the disabled community. read more

The bread was tough, generic, slightly-sweet hoagie bread. Bread means a lot on a Philly, and they went with the lowest quality bread available. We come here maybe once every month. It's so good! Parking is very easy in the strip mall. We order the pepper steak or cheese steak and normally have it to go as people are continually filing in and the seating space isn't huge. It might sound pricy when you look at the menu but these sandwiches are stuffed and the quality of meat they use is delicious. Ah, the Philadelphian. Only way to describe this place is like an old dated sweater that you just love too much to get rid of. It's not showy by any means; I wouldn't really recommend this place for atmosphere necessarily, but there's an absolute reason it's still around and as well loved as it is. There's something comforting and peaceful (to me, at least) about coming back to a restaurant like this that has very obviously stood through the sands of time. Service is usually pretty good. Haven't had any employees respond negatively to me, at the worst maybe a bit neutral, but more often then not you're usually met with a very casual demeanor and a dry sense of humor. The food here? Damn good. If you're wanting an extravagant night out and exciting cuisine, there's plenty of other places to go to. This is where you go for a simple, straight forward sandwich or fries and you can expect greatness from the simplicity of it every single time. They offer a fair amount of pickings, with some topping options and sides, but don't expect a unicorn out of a Shetland pony. You go because you love Shetland ponies. ;) read more

The Philadelphian- you never ever disappoint. Whenever I travel to Utah, it's almost always for just about 48 hours. Within that time, I almost always make time for a quick meal. Prices have gone up since my last review, but that's the same for almost everywhere. Doesn't matter. The food at the Philadelphian is worth every single penny. I still order the same thing I have been ordering for decades- the hot combo with everything (everything meaning mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and hot peppers), an order of fries, and an order of picadillies aka English chips. Heads up, fries and English chips portions are massive, so order and plan on sharing with whomever you are with. After all these years, everything is still great here. Even when busy, all of the workers do a great job. The only thing I miss from back in the day is the bottles of "fry sauce" (Utah's quintessential condiment of ketchup and mayo mixed). I used to love pouring it on my sandwich bite after bite. The bottles are long gone, and you now get a small pre-packaged sauce with your fries. Philadelphian- thank you for being you and still being around after all these years. There are a handful of things that always make me look forward to visiting SLC, and you will always have a spot on that list. read more

This is a store in constant tension with what could only be described as a better version of itself. A little more flexibility with ingredients, an updated internal style and personable employee at the POS would have gotten another star or two. I would have left except for ordering what was probably the largest damn sandwich I've ever come across. I got the 12-inch club (turkey and ham) and when it arrived, I imagined myself with arthritis of my jaw trying to fit it in my gullet. MASSIVE .Seriously, was I supposed to unhinge my jaw and consume it in large gulps over the course of a week, anaconda style? It was made for Andre the Giant after a month-long fast. Thankfully I learned that the secret to my survival would be squeezing it to a denser yet smaller mini taco shape so I could eat it. The taste was great, though I had to go to the preparation counter three times to get A1 sauce because I don't fancy fry sauce (would be nice to have other sauces available at the tables). The fries were thick and yummy. Standard collection of help-yourself soft drinks to round it out. Sky provided great service from the prep counter. Tried this place for the first time today, and I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't super excited over it either. The restaurant itself is a bit odd. It has old carpet on one side and the kitchen on the other. It definitely doesn't look like your typical restaurant. The smells that hit you when you walk in are amazing though, and make up for the lackluster appearance. The steak in my Pepper Steak sandwich was tasty and I personally enjoyed the tenderness of the meat, while my husband said he would've preferred it to have a little more of a bite - it didn't have the right amount of chew for him. The peppers and onions upheld the cheesesteak's great classic taste and the bread was just right. My only complaint about the sandwich was the small amount of cheese. I ordered mine with extra cheese, and it still felt like there was barely any in there. For me personally, what makes a great cheesesteak is having a great amount of cheese - this wasn't it. Tasty, but not quite there. The Mac n Cheese Bites were decent - nothing spectacular. The mac n cheese inside was tasty, but the breading lacked seasoning and the sauce that comes with the bites could've been better. It was sort of like a cross between fry sauce and thousand island. Meh. My overall experience here wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about either. My husband enjoyed it slightly more than I did, and he would've given this place 4 stars if he had his own Yelp account. He is also much more of a cheesesteak / meat expert than I am, so consider this review 3.5 stars. Would I come back? Yeah, probably. Would I come back very often? This place deserves five stars for sure! First, their service is amazing! The staff are kind, funny and helpful. I had never been here before and a friend recommended the place. The person who took our order made great recommendations or what to get. They also brought the food to our table once done and would come and check on us. The other staff worked really well as a team and seemed to have fun. Second, the food was outstanding for a great price point! My sister and I shared the French dip and we got both types of Mac and Cheese bites - regular and jalapeño. We recommend both. The fries they serve are thick and tasty. One of the best steaks I have had outside of PA! I am from southeastern PA, and command high quality from a cheesesteak. There are a few things that are AUTHENTIC about this steak. First, it is LOADED with meat! You don't need any side orders if you order a 12" steak. It'll fill you up! Second, it comes close to a true hoagie roll. It may be lacking a slight outer crisp, but it is a soft roll nonetheless. Lastly, the ribeye was sliced thin, seasoned quite well, and so juicy, the bread got a little soggy! THAT is the sign of a good steak! However, the steak I got could benefit from more onions and peppers. I recall asking for them, but I hardly saw any in there. Additionally, some of the salt could be replaced with either a smidge of garlic powder or paprika to add more depth to the flavor. I should be able to smell the steak's flavors all over my fingers when I am done, even after washing my hands. While the Philadelphian succeeded in that, it wasn't to the same extent as to what Tony Luke's (now Tony & Nick's) can pull off. Congrats to the Philadelphian for nailing most of the basics of a good steak! I will be back for another cheesesteak that hopefully has rich notes of onion and pepper! read more

We came by the Philadelphian tonight because eod all the rave reviews we read here on yelp. What a huge disappointment. First of all I do need to sing the praises of the staff! They were fantastic. Very pleasant and working their butts off! It was a busy Friday night and they were cranking out the sandwiches and the wait was minimal. They were super nice and took the time to deliver the food to our table and ask chow everything was 5 stars to the staff! Now our sandwiches were just so so! All the reviews praise how much meat is on the sandwich and toppings galore and even stating the BEST cheesesteaks I ever had, I don't get it. The meat was a meager helping, a little cheese and it was confusing because I got a French dip and the au jus tasted like they had just mixed a packet with hot water, way too much mix, way too salty! I requested onions and I saw a few ... my husband got the cheesesteak and they asked what he wanted on it and he said whatever a cheesesteak comes with, granted the menu didn't state what it was to come with, but usually peppers and onions and he got just roast beef and a little cheese. There was horseradish and the onion rings had this very thick batter not good, supposed to be beer batter which is usually a thin batter, these were very heavy and not tasty at all. The bread was super fresh. This is definitely a hole in the wall, which is no big deal, I can over look that and the employees were great, I just don't think that is enough to get a sandwich here again, so sad we were looking forward to the best sandwich we ever had! read more
