We came by the Philadelphian tonight because eod all the rave reviews we read here on yelp. What a huge disappointment. First of all I do need to sing the praises of the staff! They were fantastic. Very pleasant and working their butts off! It was a busy Friday night and they were cranking out the sandwiches and the wait was minimal. They were super nice and took the time to deliver the food to our table and ask chow everything was 5 stars to the staff! Now our sandwiches were just so so! All the reviews praise how much meat is on the sandwich and toppings galore and even stating the BEST cheesesteaks I ever had, I don't get it. The meat was a meager helping, a little cheese and it was confusing because I got a French dip and the au jus tasted like they had just mixed a packet with hot water, way too much mix, way too salty! I requested onions and I saw a few ... my husband got the cheesesteak and they asked what he wanted on it and he said whatever a cheesesteak comes with, granted the menu didn't state what it was to come with, but usually peppers and onions and he got just roast beef and a little cheese. There was horseradish and the onion rings had this very thick batter not good, supposed to be beer batter which is usually a thin batter, these were very heavy and not tasty at all. The bread was super fresh. This is definitely a hole in the wall, which is no big deal, I can over look that and the employees were great, I just don't think that is enough to get a sandwich here again, so sad we were looking forward to the best sandwich we ever had! read more

Not sure how this has 4.5 stars with 2k google reviews. This may be palatable to the average Ute but for the out of the towner this is mid at best. Kid at the counter was very nice and attentive to my needs, I would give it 3 stars for his kindness but I need to give an honest review. 2 12" subs, 1 8" subs and an onion ring was $49, unbelievable. This place used to be great. Now, not so much. It's pretty easy to see they don't value their customers anymore. Once generous portions have turned into giant buns, paltry portions of meat and soggy buns, no less. Once reasonably priced, now overpriced and underdelivered is a huge disappointment. Their fries shouldn't even be classified as fries, just soggy, oily overpriced what used to be potatoes. Once great appreciation for their customers with kind, polite customer service and plenty of complimentary condiments, now you'd be lucky to get a smile and they are charging for fry sauce just like everyone else. The employees are rude, unkempt, loud and aren't ashamed about any of it. By now there should have been some improvements in the interior, but it is the same dirty place it was 10-15 years ago. Guess you can't expect much from minimum wage workers who care more about pressuring you into an unearned tip than treating long-time customers with loyal retention. I walked in and immediately saw an employee wearing a KC Chiefs hat. That was the first red flag. He was nice, but he told me this restaurant and its ownership have zero ties to Philadelphia. I could tell by the menu and eventually the food. My bar is low in Utah. This was pretty bad, even by Utah standards. The "cheesesteak" on their menu is actually a hoagie. The bread was dry and kind of stale. No amoroso rolls. The meat was bland and dry, tasted more like a prime rib sandwich than a cheesesteak. The sandwich was very light on cheese. Whiz is not on the menu. But fry sauce is? They should rename to "the Utahn," not the Philadelphian. Some of the other reviews described the location as "divey." I don't think that's accurate. The Philadelphian is shabby, not divey. Divey implies charm. The walls are gray and bland. A few scattered and random puzzles adorn the walls. Nothing Philly themed in the restaurant whatsoever. It's like eating in an abandoned food court. The fries weren't bad, although they needed a bit more salt. read more

I've never been to Philadelphia, so I don't know what a cheesesteak tastes like there, but I do know what a good cheesesteak tastes like, and I can tell you this place makes a good cheesesteak, and at an incredibly fair price. The bread is soft, the meat is tender, the cheese is melty, and the sides are great. Definitely get the mac-bites and ask for a side of marinara to dip them in, its awesome. read more

Hands down best Cheesesteaks in Utah! If you are reading reviews trying to decide where to eat- this is your sign. Get in your car and go now. they grill the edges of the paper thin steak- and the hoagie doesn't get soggy and is magnificent. The fries are also delectable and crispy (and yes they have a wonderful fry sauce). Hallelujah for a philly place open on Sundays 'round here! I mean, it's a 20 minute drive for , but when your belly wants a philly, you get a philly! We called in an order for pick up which turned out to be perfect timing as our order was ready right before we pulled in. I thought it was excellent customer service that they actually asked if we wanted all the fixins on each sandwich when we placed the order over the phone and that they called us to let us know that the order was ready when it was (despite the shop being busy at that time). My BF ordered the classic Philly Steak, and I got the Pepper Steak Philly -- biggest difference is mushrooms vs. bell peppers. We asked what size of fries we could share, and the rep on the phone suggested a small (which was spot on). We also asked for a side of fry sauce, and he graciously gave us two. We drove 20mins back so we could eat at home. I got at the fries first. They were on the lukewarm side, soggy and limp. Not too surprising since we made that drive before getting into them. They were still good though. I didn't even reheat them, and we ate them all. Fry sauce is good, but it's definitely stronger on the mayo side. I used the fry sauce for the philly, too. Mustard is a good alternative! We loved the sandwiches. I LOVE that they automatically add lettuce, tomato, and hot peppers. The fresh ingredients make a fabulous contrast to the heaviness of the cheese and steak -- I feel like this made the dish. Cheese was good. Steak was good. Probably not the best philly I have ever had, but it definitely hit the spot. I did not feel too bloated or groggy afterward which is usually a trend after a philly. Such a delicious Cheese steak sandwich with so much steak and cheese on my sandwich I was in heaven. The flavor was so good. We also ordered French fries that they must make fresh there because they certainly did not seem flash frozen. Don't let the front of the building detour you...you will not be disappointed if you stop in. They have adapted like most other places to the whole covid social distancing thing. So be prepared for take out but you can call ahead. Be kind to them though...the day I stopped in some people were being kind of short with them and they were busy. There is a cute park around the corner with picnic tables that you could take your subs to and enjoy if the weather permits. That is what we did. If I could give this negative stars I would. A friend and I walked in and purchased a steak Philly each. Both were extremely peppery to the point it was unenjoyable. To make everything worse a 12" Philly was over $16. I opted in rounding my tip to $18. After checking my bank statement a day later. They doctorated my bill to $20 dollars giving themselves an additional $2 tip! Places like this don't deserve business. Please do not waste your money at an establishment like this. read more

The Philadelphian is delicious and you can't find another philly like it in Utah. My Uncle used to work for the Snowbird Ski Resort and they would place large orders for this place back in the day. I used to live in Sandy and this place was a regular "go to." I live further away now, but I will still make a special trip out here every year, at least. This place has never changed, which is good and bad. Good, because the food stays consistent and delicious. Bad, because the place needs a major remodel. I hope they stay in business a long time. Was craving a Philly sandwich so I gave this place a try. The Philly cheese steak sandwich was good with generous portions but lacked sufficient amount of cheese, otherwise pretty tasty. The 8 inch was more than enough, great for leftovers. The onion rings were freshly made but lacked luster. They weren't as crispy as I like and the batter reminded me of doughnuts. The fries were good not to mention the sauce that came with it. Can't wait to try the pepper steak sandwich. I think there is a reason why they've been in business for a long time. This is a great local owned business that makes pretty delicious sandwiches. The hot combo is definitely the hot ticket item and their English chip style fries will delight your mouth with their crispy flaky skin covered in their amazing fry sauce. I won't lie, the hot combo is a bit of a gut bomb but it def satisfies those days when you need a little extra comfort in your life. I got the 12" hot combo and it fed my wife, my 12 yr old son and myself. The Philadelphian is a very welcoming and hole in the wall kind of spot. The atmosphere is laid back, and relatively affordable prices. Unfortunately, my fiancé and I ordered 2 9 inch classic phill cheesesteaks and 1 large fry and were very underwhelmed. The expectations were relatively grounded for the most part, however, every aspect of the sandwich fell short. The meat did not taste like thinly sliced meat, it tasted like a cold cut roast beef on a grill and thrown onto a piece of bread. The bread, which plays a pivotal part of the sandwich, was also very underwhelming and had no real flavor or crunch. The bread didn't complement the meat. And there was little to no cheese on a Philly CHEESEsteak. The only thing that saves this review from a 1 star is the nicely (freshly) cut fries. They were fresh and tasted great despite being unsalted. I am usually not a hard critic, but unfortunately the Philadelphian fell short in a lot of areas. If you are looking for somewhat of an authentic Philly cheesesteak experience to those like Jim's, Dalessandros, etc. this isn't it. Likely won't be going back. But I hope they improve! read more

Usually I would give this place a 4 star, if the service was good, but the service was TERRIBLE. The food was mid. The pepper steak sandwich was the best out of everything. The fries had 0 salt, and tasted like oily potatoes. I could have gotten a better meatball sub at subway. The Mac and cheese balls grew on me but still weren't great. The onion rings would be good if you're looking for onion ring donuts... I like my onion rings crispy. And last of all the French dip had burnt meat, and had 0 flavor. Cheesesteak - Yes. Fries - Yes. I've been to the Philadelphian several times in 2021. The food is consistently delicious, their fries and fry sauce excellent. The sandwiches are awesome. What really puts things over the top for me this year though is their awesome service. The employees there are kind and they seem to take great pride in making some delicious eats. The place doesn't look like much and you might be caught off guard by the excellent food and service based on the appearances of the restaurant. Whatever they're doing over there, I hope they keep on doing it for years to come. From where I live this is the best sandwich I can get in close proximity. When we lived it salt lake we would frequently eat at the Philadelphian and they were Soooo Good, however recently the food was terrible, the meat was over cooked, the bun was cold and there was hardly any meat on the bun. They charge for fry sauce now. I'm not sure if there is new management however I hope they read my review and fix this problem, because I don't want to stop eating here but will have to if the quality does not improve. let me know when it improves and i will come back and try and change my review. read more

Today for lunch all I wanted was a Cheesesteak and wished I could have wiggled my nose to be teleported When I knew that wouldn't work out I found them and they did not disappoint. The meat is great quality the buns perfectly soft and the. Mushrooms and onions sautés perfectly I got it to go because they were busy. The inside seating looks like you're in a 70s roadside bar.
