We were on the way home from the beach and decided to stop in Jackson for dinner. I found this place on yelp and decided to try it on Memorial Day. The best choice I made. We ordered the brisket Nachos and the wings. The wings were super tender and succulent. It was actually best barbecue wings I have eaten. I tasted some of the brisket nachos which was delicious. I love the friendly atmosphere . The staff were super attentive and kind. It was fun to sit with others outside and enjoy the meal. Running away from Hurricane Irma we ended up in Jackson , Mississippi. This is our 1st time to this city. Asked around what was the best BBQ place and everyone pointed us to the pig and pint. When we pulled up, it reminded me of some of our favorite restaurants back home( Tampa, Florida). So glad there were outside seating and it was pet friendly. We ordered the BBQ samplers with ribs, chicken and sausage. We also got pork rinds, fries and fried green tomatoes. Everything was super yummy especially the ribs and pork rinds. The mustard base BBQ sauce was too die for! My only complaint was the chicken was dry and my fried green tomatoes, we not green tomatoes they used regular red tomatoes, so I didn't get that tart taste. Wow, the pulled pork here was amazing! Great vibe, outside seating is a plus. I'm traveling cross country with my dog and it's always tough to find a non-fast food option since most places don't allow dogs..this was a great alternative. The brisket was pretty much perfect. Sides ... I enjoyed the beans but the rest of the sides offered weren't my speed (so I don't like slaw!) I'm from Atlanta and I honestly thought I would never love (ribs) again after first tasting my favorite, sugar crusted ribs at The Greater Good BBQ. However, the ribs at The Pig & Pint have changed my mind. I was skeptical because they are Pepsi glazed and I come from Coke country, but I couldn't ignore the Yelp reviews. They were delicious, really meaty with a great smoky flavor and the sauce really completes them. I also got the (smoked? I think it said) tomato cole slaw and the fried green tomatoes as my side. I don't normally like cole slaw but it sounded interesting, and it was better than most. The fried green tomatoes were perfect. My mom and sister got bbq pork sandwiches which came with hefty portions of tender pork. My mom got collard greens, which were a little heavy on the liquid but super tasty. My sister got fries which were (seemingly) hand cut. A bit salty, but I like them that way. We were on the way back from Dallas to Atlanta when we stopped here. It was a bit further off of the freeway than the places we normally stop at, but totally worth it. I really want to go back next year when we drive to/fro Texas and get some more ribs/ try the brisket. There were also some more interesting things I wanted to try like the boudin burger and the nachos. The people there were nice and eager to give their opinions on the food. The craze of BBQ joints continues with this offering in the Fondren area of Jackson, MS (just 1/2 mile from University of Mississippi Medical Center). Upon arriving, you notice large outdoor seating, and there is indoor seating available as well if you choose not to brave the great outdoors. At The Pig & Pint, you place your order and pay, then wait to have your food brought out to you. For this visit (as I do with most BBQ joints), I order the combination platter (which comes with pulled chicken (all white meat), pulled pork, and sliced brisket) with slaw and potato salad as my sides. The combination platter was brought out on a lined aluminum tray, with the sides being in paper compartments. Out of all the meats, the brisket was the definite star here. It was smoked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. Definite hints of there being a Texas influence. The pork was also moist and super tender. The chicken, while flavorful, had been held in the back for a little too long and had thus taken on a mushy texture and consistency. The sides were excellent -- the slaw and potato salad were both lightly dressed and just outright tasty! And for the beer lovers, there is an extensive selection of beers available for your tasting. This place definitely warrants a second trip the next time I am back in the Jackson, MS area. read more

I'm not sure what I expected, but we got cold, dry sausage, a few small slices of cheese, and Saltine crackers for $10. It looked like something I would've thrown together at 3 AM as a child when there were very few options at the house. Except I probably would've done a better job. This is one of my favorite spots to hang out in Fondren. The atmosphere is great. Located in a former gas station (side note: why is this a trend in Jxn? I love it, but isn't it a little strange?) on the northern end of downtown Fondren, Pig & Pint has one of the absolute best patios in Jackson. I'm pretty much always in the mood to sit outside on a sunny day, drink a good beer and enjoy some good bbq and Pig & Pint offers all those things. The outdoor seating is picnic table style, so it's great for groups of friends though it does get crowded pretty quickly. There are tables inside too, as well as a small bar with limited seating. They offer a really good beer variety, and they've usually got some interesting craft beers on tap. The bar is located separately from where you order your food, which is sort of strange, but I don't mind because their bartenders are reeeally friendly and helpful. They'll always offer to let you try out a new beer before you buy it. I've discovered some new favorites here! The BBQ is really fantastic here. I love getting the taco sampler. They definitely use really high quality meats, which makes a huge difference. There are multiple sauces available on the table, though I find that most of the tacos have plenty of flavor on their own! The brisket sandwich is my second favorite option. I've never had anything here I didn't enjoy, to be honest. Everything about Pig & Pint is great, whether you're looking for a meal or just a place to chill and grab some beers. If you're ever in Jackson and you like BBQ you need to visit The Pig & Pint. I've eaten at some of the best BBQ places in Memphis and Kansas City, at Myron Mixon's place in Miami and some excellent places in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia and this may be the best BBQ I've ever had. Certainly among the top 3. RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!! My first time in any BBQ place I like to try a combo plate so I get a good idea of their range. I also judge a place by the coleslaw and baked beans. I had the combo platter with brisket, turkey and pulled pork accompanied by the tomato coleslaw and BBQ beans. The brisket needed no additional sauce or seasonings as it was extremely flavorful. The smoked turkey and pulled pork were amazingly juicy and tender. The tomato coleslaw was something different than I've ever had before and that was a good thing. The BBQ beans were nice and firm, not mushy and they use a couple different types of beans. They weren't overly sweet or tangy, but complimented the meats very well. I spoke with a gentleman who works there (Austin) and told him how much I liked everything and he said that if I order the ribs I'll never order anything else again. I also find southern cooking to be too heavy, but we found ourselves in a situation where our friends ordered food (I think the entire menu) from here and we were starving. My husband and I both looked at one another--baked beans, pork tacos, fries...really? We modestly took a few bites from some of the dishes. Our friend poured Pig & Pint's BBQ sauce on them. We sat down to eat. We went back for seconds. We went back for thirds. We may have even gone back for another round. We turned ourselves into little pigs. It was that good. I can't tell you about what we ate. It was dark, we were at a party. But we sampled a lot. I didn't even want to go near the baked beans since I usually don't like them.
