Focaccia Melt & Hashbrowns
Jeffrey M.

First time visiting The Pinwheel in Essex Junction and I enjoyed my breakfast. There was about a 20-minute wait this particular morning, which honestly felt like a good sign and it moved along smoothly. Once seated, the ambiance was warm, cozy, and welcoming perfect for a relaxed breakfast or brunch spot. The space has a friendly neighborhood vibe that makes you want to linger and enjoy your meal. The service was excellent. My server, Sarah B., was attentive, kind, and made sure everything was just right without being overbearing. As a first-time guest, I really appreciated how smooth and welcoming the experience felt. For food, I ordered the Focaccia Melt - $11 with tomato, spinach, cheddar, and basil mayo. I added an egg (+$2) and avocado (+$3.75), and it was absolutely worth it. The focaccia was perfectly toasted, the ingredients were fresh, and the combination of flavors was balanced and satisfying. The egg added richness, and the avocado was creamy and generous. On the side, I had the hashbrowns ($3.50), which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside exactly how hashbrowns should be. To drink, I ordered a hot chai tea latte with almond milk ($4.50). It was warm, flavorful, and not overly sweet great pairing with breakfast. Overall, The Pinwheel delivered great food, excellent service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I'll be back to try more of the menu. I recommend if you're in the Essex Junction area looking for a solid breakfast spot!

Very nice interior. The staff were all very kind and acknowledged us whenever they passed by. Very quick service as well. The food was great. Good portions and everything was cooked well.

I don't know how I've missed this place for so long! My son has multiple food allergies that make going out to eat really difficult. Our waitress, Emma, was super helpful in finding us exactly what he could eat. She even took a photo of the ingredients in the bread which made me feel so much better. Eating out with a toddler is stressful enough. The food was all delicious, especially the salad dressing (red pepper ranch), turkey sandwich, steel cut oats, and the fruit plate was the best variety of fruit we've ever received at a restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Omelette special. Potato, leek and Gorgonzola.

While researching breakfast spots in Essex Junction for our weekend getaway, we came across…read moreUncommon Coffee and were encouraged by the strong reviews. When we arrived, the parking lot was busy, which felt like a great sign. It was a Saturday morning, so there was a short wait to order and to grab a table, but the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The interior is eclectically decorated and has a cozy, fun vibe that reminded us of the coffee shop in the Friends TV show. We ordered a brewed coffee and an iced coffee--both were excellent--and really appreciated the option of Vermont maple syrup and oat milk. For food, we ordered a regular breakfast sandwich and the Forager vegan breakfast sandwich. We were especially impressed to see a vegan breakfast option on the menu, as many places don't cater to vegans at all, particularly for breakfast. Both sandwiches were delicious, and it was great to feel so thoughtfully accommodated. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and would happily recommend Uncommon Coffee to friends. We just wish it were closer to home so we could visit more often!

I was not sure what to expect from this flavor combo but it was really good and balanced. The latte was smooth and perfect amount of creaminess as well. I really enjoyed it. The next day I ordered an iced latte with vanilla from Essex Resort which uses the beans from here and that latte tasted great as well!

HOWEVER, the waitress could tell I wasn't jazzed about it and she took it away and comped it. They also give complimentary treats to diners with no gf offering. It's a bummer that a big part of their dining experience is the gf element, but they only provide glutinous complimentary treats. It is sad to watch dining partners chow down while I watch. Overall a good experience though, nice pasta (I had the florentine) and good crème Brûlée! They were also very professional about my having a service dog. My only complaint is just how disappointing the gf bread was. We also went for breakfast a couple days later and I was less impressed with that. The eggs were unseasoned but the fruit was fresh!

First note, get yourself on their waitlist before you go, as there will be a wait and there is no indoor waiting area and it's a small restaurant. Luckily we were there in nice weather, so we just walked around the farmers market across the street until we got a text that our table was ready. It was about a 30 minute wait on a Sunday around 10 am. There is cute outdoor seating on the sidewalk, but I just went with first available and we got a cozy table near the front. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious and it was tough to choose but I went with the California benedict (veggie sausage, spinach, mushroom, tomato & avocado with two poached eggs & hollandaise on a croissant) and Nate got the breakfast burrito. Our food came out quickly and looked great. I was a little bummed that the eggs were overcooked and closer to hard boiled than poached, but the flavors of everything else made up for that. The hollandaise was lemony and bright, and the mushrooms were super flavorful. I loved this other than the eggs! The potatoes were yummy too and nicely seasoned. I had a few bites of the burrito, which was delicious and big enough for us to bring half with us for later. I can see why this spot is popular, and I would come back for a tuna melt!
