This place is solid. Sandwich is made with care not just slopped together. Bread has a homemade feel but don't think it is. I really like the meatball toasty and cheese nice tangy marinara. Meh. If this is indeed the best sub shop in Burlington, Burlington needs to get better food. (Granted, that's across the board -- my wife and I usually avoid chains in preference to local eateries when traveling, but finally surrendered and ate at Applebee's our last night.) The subs we got here were decent, no real complaints, but OMG the prices. We paid TWICE as much for the size of our subs as we do in our college city sub shop back home. Ugh...this could have been a really good sammich. The bread is really good (slightly crispy on the outside), the flavors are there, but the cheese and the minimal amount of other ingredients have me asking why. I got the All American, which is "Delicious Tender Roast Beef, Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, American and Swiss Cheeses, Herbs and Dave's 1000 Island Dressing. Served with our own dill pickle". Well, there was no swiss cheese on this sandwich (they're probably going to blame in on supply issues), but there was plenty of American Cheese. However, it was cut in to cubes and placed on top, so it falls right off as soon as you pick up the sandwich. This could be a good concept, maybe, if they buried it in the sandwich, so it doesnt go all over the place. There was also maybe 2 piece of roast beef on the sandwich as well. And Im not sure how they prioritize orders, between online ordering and ordering in person. I was staying at a hotel, down the street, maybe a 10 minute walk. I placed my order online (via their website) and then walked down there. I entered the store and this couple was deciding what to order. They placed their order, and received it before I got mine. Sooo close to being 4 stars, but 2 minor complaints. Great sub shop, decent prices, fast service. The complaints are as follows: 1: They make a point to say that you cant customize your sandwich... it comes off as a little extreme. Degrade the quality of the sandwich? If I want to change thousand island to mustard, is it really that earth-shatteringly difficult? This is not a restaurant for picky eaters or those with dietary restrictions I guess. 2: Putting shredded cheese on a cold sub. Frankly, a baffling choice. Most delis use sliced cheese, but I when I got Dave's All American (classic roast beef sub) it had shredded cheese that didn't taste as good or stay on the sandwich as well as slices do. All in all, sandwiches were decent. Still better than Subway and other delis in the area. Dave may be cosmic but he's gonna have to put in work to get that 4th star from me. read more

I've been to a Dave's a few times and never had a bad sandwich. On my most recent visit I tried the Corned Beef and was pretty happy with it. Generous portion and good bread. My dad had the #1, the original cosmic sub (the Italian) and was also happy. Prices are about what you'd expect for a sandwich shop. I also like that you can choose to get many sandwiches hot or cold. Given the amount of menu choices and their attention to detail, I'm not that surprised or annoyed by their policy of not doing build-your-own-subs or not being able to easily change a lot from the set choices. My biggest complaint is with customer service and I see others have mentioned that here too. On my recent visit my friend and I ordered sandwiches through their online platform. I received a text saying my order would be ready in 15 minutes. About 15-20 min later I went in with my friend. Her sub was ready, mine was not. At that point, I'd expect them to rush mine but instead they took the rush of customers that had just entered through the door and we waited another 15-20 minutes for the sub. A few min in to the wait I received a text telling me my sub was done but they told me to ignore that. When I asked why my friend, who ordered her sub at the same time as mine, got hers when I didn't get mine they told me it was because they knew she was there (she had checked immediately after ordering online). I don't understand the purpose of their online ordering platform or texts if they don't actually work. They knew I was there too because I told them. At the very least, an apology would have gone along way. While the sandwiches are good, I'm dissuaded from returning until customer service improves. read more

The flavor of the subs here are truly cosmic...other than that, two red flags from me. First flag: Meat. Where was it? I ordered the #7...not worth it. I got back to my hotel and there was about 1/2 a salad and about two pieces of corned beef. And I mean thinly sliced. Bad move Second flag: no American Express Accepted...this is the part that actually upsets me the most. I was traveling on business and had to use my personal card. ENOUGH ALREADY. Wow-this place is really good! I stopped on my way to the airport and was really impressed with the quality and portions of my Dave's Club (turkey, ham, bacon and Swiss). Cool sandwich shop! We really enjoyed checking out all of the memorabilia on the walls! And the sandwiches were good! I really like their bread. Kinda kicking myself now for getting the Reuben, as it comes on rye bread instead of their house bread. Also, the meat:sauerkraut ratio was off. Lots of meat, not so much kraut. Gotta have more kraut! The club and the turkey sandwiches were both really good! Plenty of meat, great sauce, lots of flavor. While waiting for a table at the outback we took a little trip around the blue mall , first some chocolate at snowflake chocolates then noticed the bright sign for Dave's. Intrigued we walk over to check it out! It's new, I've never heard of it before and we make a plan to come over tomorrow to check it out for lunch after shopping! I knew I'd stop in to get number 1, Dave's Original Cosmic Sub, after seeing there was a locale in Burlington while visiting Vermont. I've been to the original Dave's Cosmic Subs in Chagrin Falls OH and the Burlington location has the great tasting, delicious and authentic subs as Chagrin Falls. The combination of ingredients on the original is worthy of any deli one can ubiquitously find in NJ. It has the freshly sliced meat and the treat was the distinct taste of the shredded provolone and of course Dave's sauce which I put on myself. It adds flavor to the sub rather than just oil and vinegar. It was a pleasure meeting the owner Dean, as we discussed the Cleveland OH area as well as the signature Rock 'n Roll posters on the wall. read more

Tried the infamous DCS today and have conflicting feelings. Maybe I just picked the wrong sando to try. Giving 4 stars cuz the bread seemed hard to eat vary crispy crust. Ordered at the kiosk also paid at the kiosk. Two subs. Totaled $18.35. Waited 45 minutes text said they were ready, went up to the counter was told not ready, yet we've been really busy. Finally got our order 10 minutes later. Subs was mostly lettuce, three slices of very thin cut turkey, and three slices of extremely thin see thru tomato. Other sub was made the same way, but peppers were omitted. Also I had asked for no herbs, no sauce the sandwich had both. I will never darken their door again. Definitely not worth the money, customer service was terrible. The counter person had plastic gloves on running the register, handling money etc, keep running back to prep area to work on sandwiches. I got the Italian, which the very pleasant young woman at the counter cleverly called a "gateway sub." It was alright, but as noted by others the ingredients aren't exactly gourmet -- not a complaint, just defining the terms of this review. Major takeaways: 1) It took forever. Literally waited for twenty minutes to get a cold sandwich (not that I asked them to bake it, just pointing out the absurdity of the wait). Had to go take it back to work at eat at my desk, which was ultimately fine because; 2) The classic rock kitsch feels pretty forced. I guess that's not unusual, but it doesn't exactly scream "locally owned business"; 3) No surprise there, because -- don't be fooled by all the "local business" language -- it's a franchise of a national chain.
