This trip I noticed all of their grab and go coolers were empty and there were not chips or cookies for grab and go on the racks. Not sure if they were just restocking or if there is a move planned. Been in and out of the Omni hotel/plaza several times and finally got to try this place. Loved their shiitake mushroom pizza! Their white sauce was delicious and well seasoned with strong fragrant garlic flavors and a kick of spiciness from the pepper flakes. Couple that with extra gooey cheese and pieces of mushroom? It was so yummy and the cheese pull was unreal!! I just wish that there were more shiitake pieces. Staff were indeed friendly and upbeat! They even decorated the pizza box for me! I've been here 2 or 3 times already and service/ food is subpar. I normally order the bees knees or house bowl. They were out of the house base, so had to go with the other fruit bowl base but asked for house toppings. They were also out of honey. When I got my bowl it also was missing the peanut butter. I also ordered the matcha drink iced. They forgot to make it because I had to go up and ask and I was already half way through eating my bowl. My matcha was gross. Pit and Peel has always been hit or miss, but I finally got a smoothie today that was so bad I ended up throwing the whole $15 atrocity away. It was one of the "meal replacement" smoothies, and it was so thick it was absolutely undrinkable. The texture of thick pudding or snot. Could barely suck it through a straw. There's no way that whoever made it didn't know it was way too thick when they had to coax that sludge out of the blender. I tried thinning it out with water and while that didn't make it worse, it didn't improve it either. But yeah, for a place where my order was wrong a good 30% of the time anway, I don't know why I've waited so long to just ditch them altogether. read more

I've been to this location a handful of times since it opened earlier in the year. My current conclusion is: Yay to breakfast; Pass on lunch. This outpost of the local chain is situated in the James Center lobby to the left of Arby's. It specializes in healthy smoothies, juices, and fresh foods. This area downtown is flush with restaurants but this one stands out for the health component. Other than maybe the pastries, it'd be hard to splurge on a nutrient-deficient meal. So far my preferred menu item is arguably fairly boring: a blueberry bagel, not toasted, with plain cream cheese on the side. I'm also a fan of the blueberry muffin. I think breakfast is the best time to stop in because the staff is friendly and helpful, and it's not crazy busy at that time. Their lunch rush is a little insane (actually way more than a little). I'm pretty sure half of downtown goes to visit. Last time I stopped in for a chicken and cheese quesadilla and had a ridiculous wait. I used up all of my lunch break just waiting for the food. Even watched all the finance bros in the tucked in blue button downs and tight khakis get their food first. When I stopped up to inquire, my quesadilla was just sitting on the counter. I asked about the smoothie and was handed one that didn't taste like any of the ingredients I expected. And I got a half-baked apology after asking why they didn't simply ring my little buzzer. So, essentially, I wouldn't return if I'm in any sort of rush, ie, during working hours, but I would go back for breakfast. Working in the building where this is located, this has become a regular spot for lunch a few times each week. The air-fried chicken strips and sweet potato wedges are super good and what I pretty much always get. The chicken is crispy and flavorful, without the grease since it's air-fried. The instructors were doing their best but seriously, why did they demonstrate how to make basic drinks, like a tequila sunrise? What does that have to with the holidays? The demonstrations could have been a YouTube video. The whole thing was weird that we've chalked up to being a good story. No where on the menu does it explain that. So they don't do any scrambled eggs, which is what I requested. Employee couldn't answer my basic question as to is there a running yolk - which I dislike. But it was already made and thus I was stuck with what I ordered. On top of it, despite being told by grub hub it's be ready 7:30-7:50, my sandwich picked up at 7:35 was cold. The lunch food is okay, never quite as good as I hope. I'm a vegetarian and I like that there are plenty of options. I have been to other locations and had similar experiences to this one. Never go when you are on a tight lunch break. It takes a long time. It is usually busy, which makes me think I just haven't tried the right thing. It seems like they are still learning how to manage the number of customers. I recommend ordering online. I had to wait for my order when I got there, but not nearly as aggravating as ordering in person and waiting 20-30 minutes each time. I came to this location of Pit and Peel following dozens of other trips to both the scary and Main Street locations. I ordered the Easy Living, a bagel with hummus and veggies. Simple enough, right? Well no. I walk six blocks and finally open the sandwich I was waiting for. But what I got was not at all had I expected. There was hardly any hummus, the tiniest sliver of tomato and no arugula. The saving grace could have been the cucumbers, but not okay were they diced (strange for a sandwich, no?) they were completely overpowered by red onion. I literally ate a red onion bagel sandwich. I found the food and drinks to be really fresh, healthy and reasonably priced. Huge menu with lots of choices. You can get both healthy and delicious food. I have gone a couple of times now and tried a new thing each time, but the food just tastes slapped together and overly nuked in the microwave. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My food looked great. I was nervous it was going to be loaded with sugar but it didn't taste sweetened. Went there with a colleague from work on July 17, 2019 at 7:05 a.m. for breakfast, and there were three ladies walking around inside setting up for the day. My friend asked them through the locked door what time they opened, and one of them said 10 mins. so we thought we would wait, they may have been still putting things together. While we were waiting my friend looked up the hours on her phone and it said they opened at 7:00 a.m., the three ladies then proceeded to walk out the front door past us standing there and locked the door behind them to take A SMOKE BREAK before beginning their day This delayed the opening of the restaurant to accommodate them while leaving paying customers standing out front waiting for them to return. We went next door to the Arby's and received friendly outstanding service, not the choices we wanted for breakfast, but it sure tasted better because of how we were greeted. We also heard from another person that walked up as we were heading next door that this scenario happens quite often in the morning with these three ladies. I have a hard time giving my hard earned money to and establishment who could care less about me or my business other than it is just another dollar to them. I would rather spend it where my time and I are treated with respect and appreciated. I think there are plenty of healthy options to choose from in Downtown Richmond for breakfast and or lunch, so it will be sometime before I return to this location. read more
