The service was pretty quick ~10 minutes and the staff was very friendly. Both were yummy. The ingredients tasted fresh and portions were large. The smoothie was very decadent with the peanut butter and chocolate/coffee flavors, a nice treat! The location has good street parking nearby. The store is clean and bright with a lot of natural light. Needed a smoothie in my life before heading to work and was excited to see the pit and the peels version of the Hailey Bieber smoothie on the menu. I ordered the glowing horizons smoothie ($16) and it was tasty but almost mid, definitely not worth $16, but it was very pretty! The coconut cream and strawberry glaze were good but I wanted more strawberry flavor from the smoothie. I also ordered a panini to go, the pit and the pesto with kettle chips. The sandwich was incredible I'd definitely get it again. Overall the smoothie and panini cost about $36 after tip, cute spot but a little on the pricey side. Maybe it's just semantics but a cooking class implies to me I'm going to be a part of the cooking process. Instead, it was a demonstration by the chef, and poorly organized at that. I used to visit the old downtown location when I went to VCU, then went to the short pump location when I moved to the west end. Now I go downtown just to get this and a coffee next door. The waitress came over to make sure we were doing okay a few times. She brought us water which was a nice touch. The strawberry margarita was so delicious. The atmosphere was very relaxing. I am thoroughly convinced that The Pit and the Peel on Main Street is a money laundering front. Not only is the restaurant rarely occupied, I've yet to see more than 2 young employees working at any given moment. Beyond that, there is no way to order from the restaurant for a pick up order. I got the Kale Me Crazy smoothie that had pineapple, kale, spinach, chia seed, banana, and coconut. I actually enjoyed my drink. It was lightly sweet and I felt really healthy. For lunch, I got the Bees Knees Bowl. It looked small, but it was surprisingly filling. I like the combination, but it was missing something, perhaps another sweet fruit that has texture? Not worth the price or the time it took to wait for it. But the coffee was really good! I ordered an Oatmilk Macchiato and it was one of the best I've ever had. Perfect. Inside it is pretty open with lots of light, so if you need to study or meet some friends for coffee it is a good spot. I wouldn't call it cozy, but it is clean and bright so if that's what you're looking for then this is the spot. The lady behind the counter was nice and she didn't mind taking the time to explain a few items on the menu. But they never seem to have everything I would expect. Today - no drip coffee and only 2% or almond milk options. I was told that they never have whole milk. This review is specifically for The Pit and The Peel Rooftop Bar. The space was gorgeous! I love a touch-free menu during these weird times, and the staff were all super knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and their ingredients. Shoutout to all the vegan options on the food menu! In addition to the obvious things like smoothies and bowls, there were vegan cheeses available for nachos, pizzas, and quesadillas. As a lactose intolerant person, I was overjoyed with the freedom that gave me! I had the vegan nachos and was not disappointed. The portion was enormous and the cheeses (a shredded and a nacho type) were really good! As far as drinks go, I made some bad personal choices. I started off with the Peach Mule. It was largely delicious, but my goodness, any house-made ginger product is STRONG. The spice level on it absolutely knocked my socks off. If you're sensitive to a strong ginger flavor, avoid it here at all costs because it did NOT come to slack off. Honestly, I had to knock off a star for the lack of warning on that juiced ginger-- I spoke at length with the bartender about ingredients and it could have come up that the peach flavor was mild and the ginger flavor was aggressive. My companion had the cocktail with dill and cucumber and said it was delicious and refreshing-- next time, I'll go in that direction for sure! I will certainly visit again for the fresh air, great ambiance, and delicious food and beverages. read more

I ordered our food downstairs not realizing you could go right up to the rooftop and order on your phone. There were plenty of seats and a bar at the top. We got the Mimosa flight to share. The bartender put small straws so we could easily try each one. Food wise everything tasted good forthe most part. The Cauliflower pizza just needed some hot honey drizzled on it and that would've been perfection. The egg and cheese on GF bread was okay. Honestly the bread could've been Toasted or the cheese melted at least. My sister got the avocado toast and tried the pizza as well. Overall everyone wants to be on a rooftop chilling with friends. This is a cool spot with a great menu. Overall I spent $60 on the food and drinks but it was worth it. read more

One of my favorite things about Richmond is The Pit & the Peel. I've only ever had the Açaí Bowls. They have greatly expanded the menu since my last visit but It seems the Açaí Bowl varieties are greatly reduced. The Berry Bowl is very good but would like blueberries. The House Bowl is too sweet for my taste. This Main St location has a nice crisp downstairs with great AC but the concrete floor & hard surroundings make for a noisy environment even with only a few customers present. So I went upstairs which is an absolutely beautiful Outdoor Deck. Only problemo was that it was a 90 degree day with humidity making it feel like 99. The other location I visited had an upstairs that was indoors. Main improvement I'd like to see is a way to view the menu without standing in front of the Order Counter. read more

Wow! Horrible. Went to an event here tonight, and it was terrible. A supposed "class" on mixology. Multiple issues. First there were easily twice the number of people in the space as there should have been. The fire marshal would have freaked out. Second this "class" consisted of a one person narrating the making of "cocktails" like the cubra libre as they were made on the cookie display and then spouting incorrect assertions about the history of the drink. Third the "charcuterie" provided was Sam's Club Swiss cheese and salami. At best this was a terrible execution. At worst an out right scam. I will never go to a Pit 'n' Peel again read more

If you want unfriendly and slow service, this is the place to go! The staff is rude and the açaí bowls are bland. Ordered a latte and waited 15 minutes. It was ONLY when inquired about it, I was told the machine was not working correctly. I asked for a refund and the staff didn't know how to process a refund back to my cc. The staff then proceeded to grab tip money and give it to me as the refund! I'm not even sure what I was given covered the cost of the latte. I only ate the toppings from my açaí bowl because the rest was gross.
