Brought my dog in to get neutered today and they called me an hour later telling me he was "unhandleable" he's barely 1 and he's a husky. Pretty sure that's their job to figure out how to make it work. Offered to muzzle him myself and AMY was a total jerk. If i could give this place zero stars I would. My 11 year old son found a kitten that was barely 2 weeks old. We contacted the Pixie stealers to see if they had an idea of someone who could care for our kitten until it was old enough to be home with us. They gave us the name of a lady to take him to. We took him to Mesha. After about two weeks of Mesha sending several pictures and updating us on the status of our kitten she stopped responding and told us we needed to contact Pixie. Upon contacting Pixie we were told by Amy that we now had to adopt our kitten back or he would go to another family. We were never told that we wouldn't get OUR kitten back. This situation has devastated my three children and has caused them immense stress. They had spent days feeding our kitten with a bottle and nurturing him for this horrible organization to assume ownership of our kitten and steal him. I will be filing a claim against this organization for the stress they have caused my children. read more

I hate to write negative reviews, and I've held off for a long time (2 yrs). But now that I've seen how other shelters are run, I feel like I should say something. The short version is that I adopted an adult cat here after losing my cat and waiting a long time for my heart to heal. I finally visited the Pixie Project and found a cat that I knew I could love. I wanted to make sure it was a good fit, so I visited the cat I was considering adopting several times before going through with it, and I talked at length with the staff there about my situation - it was just so important to me that it be a positive experience. I adopted a beautiful 10-year old cat and brought her home and right away knew something was wrong. I ended up spending about $700 in the first week. She needed surgery a week later and she ended up needing to be put down. I can't really even describe what a heartbreak this was. 2 years later I still won't adopt again; I probably never will. I will say that the main point of contact at Pixie was nice and regretful about the events. The fact that they couldn't tell the cat was very sick, and I figured it out about 20 minutes after I got her home, is enough to make me incredibly suspicious of how they interact with and treat their animals. This whole experience was a nightmare and regardless of what you need, I would suggest you run as fast as you can away from this place. read more

After having my own experience with Amy (which I'll get to in a minute), I came on here to read the reviews for Pixie Project and I am appalled that they have so many stars considering the horrendous things they have done to other people. Thankfully, I only had to suffer through one phone call... I contacted Pixie Project because I have an aggressive dog with a bite history. I've had her since she was 4 months old, done extensive training and socializing, paid for expensive behavioralists and aggression specialists, exercised the crap out of her, and given her lots of love. For over two years now, I've been managing her every second of every day and I'll be frank...I'm tired. Tired isn't the reason I decided to contact Pixie Project. My poor, troubled dog has now bitten everyone in my home and has attacked our other, very sweet dog multiple times. We've tried everything to make this work because we love her so much, but it just isn't fair to the rest of us to make our entire worlds about her. Our other dog gets little attention, love, or play time because we are constantly dealing with our little psycho baby. So, I contacted Pixie Project to ask if they had resources to help her. Because her aggression is dog-on-dog related and very predictable (always resource guarding) my thought was that there are some homes she may be great in. I still stand by the claim that she could live a happy and incident-free life in an adult-only home with no other pets with owners who are active and knowledgable about dog aggression. It's a lot to ask, but I'm not going to NOT try to find it for her before considering any other options. Amy called me in response to my email and started our conversation off with an "UMMM NO". I thought...Wow, ok. Not used to conversations with strangers starting that way, but I get being passionate about animal welfare. However, it did not improve from there. I didn't get a single word in the whole phone call and I had to listen to her curse at me and tell me how it would be grossly negligible to try to re-home my dog and that she needs to be put down and has no other options whatsoever. She said, "She'll go in and out of shelters 3 or 4 times and then some idiot will decide she needs to live on a farm and then she'll go to a farm, bite someone, and get shot in the f***ing face." She also said that my dog would never be happy no matter what. She tried to scare me by telling me I would be liable if she ever bit someone else which she absolutely would. The comments went on and on. Now, let me say that I do fully understand that my dog is dangerous and she may not be able to be re-homed. It's the sad nature of aggressive dogs and I would NEVER give her to anyone unless I was completely confident that they knew how to handle her and had the means to care for her for the rest of her life. Trust that I am still racked with guilt and shame and the decision to either re-home or euthanize her is not being taken lightly. However, that is NO WAY to speak to someone LET ALONE in a professional manner. Even if everything she said was 100% true, you don't say it in that way and you don't intentionally hurt people's feelings to make a point. This woman is unprofessional, rude, NEEDS THERAPY (Go on, lady. We're all doing it. You're no better than the rest of us.), and should not be put in charge of anything especially actual lives. After reading the other negative reviews, which there are a lot, I feel absolutely terrible for any animals that have been, are, or are going to be in her care. I really hope the quality of her nonprofit is being scrutinized as intensely as she scrutinizes the people who attempt to go to her for help. read more

Wow! This is just one more wonderful cool thing that makes Portland so amazing and special! A friend of mine told me about the Pixie Project but since I am already currently slave to a Cat that does not believe in living with other creatures (unless they have two legs, two arms and a wallet with which to buy her things), I never before considered stopping by, but today I did, and I was really impressed. The location is home to two very cool animal organizations, Pixie Project and Virginia Woof Dog Daycare. The staff at both are solid individuals who care about what they are doing, they are knowledgeable and helpful. The products that are available for purchase are competitively priced and you can tell that they have the animals best interest in mind, both dogs and cats, when they choose what to carry. The people stopping by to pick up their pooches seemed really pleased and the staff knew specifics about the clientele. While I was there the staff of Pixie Project were meeting with a gal who has a dog that she can't provide a good home for since relocating and finding a new job. They were asking some really great questions and I have a feeling that they will do all they can to find a great home for the little cutie, ensuring that he has a good match. As an added bonus I tried on some Amy Sacks glass frames and found a pair I want to order as prescription sunglasses, the line supports the Pixie Project, super cool if you ask me! When I'm ready for a new companion I am definitely going to find him or her through the Pixie Project. I don't understand why this place has a few bad reviews but everyone's experience is different I guess. Mine was FABULOUS and thanks to pixie I have one of the best most social and well behaved cats you could ask for. I got her in November and she is the light of my life! I bought Susu when she was a kitten and got food and lots of after adoption support from them. On the 9 th of September, 2014 I got ahold of Amy, whose been using her Supervisor's Email. (Assuming cause the Email Reads Kristin Anderson) to Set Up an Appoint to get Grey's Tooth pulled. Everything was going well, til tragedy stuck his Brother Pookie. I then got ahold of her to see if there was anything that they could do to help him too. Well, through the course of several Emails, to give them some History. Amy told me that since Pookie was suffering, the Options of Euthanizing him. (At this Point...I'm like OMG!!!!!) The Vet hasn't even seen Pookie & she talking Killing my Baby of 11 Years. (Very Pre Mature & Unwarranted) So,I wrote Email, after Email telling her my Husband & My Belief. That we were Pro Life Believers. That I was tiring to get through to Amy, that the Pixie Project just wasn't going to Look at my Cat & come up with a decision of Euthanizing him, without Lab Tests, Etc... I was tiring to get from her that the Pixie Project was going to give Pookie every "Right" to Live. So, several Emails later, we made an Appointment for the 23 rd of September, 2014. I even told Amy, that my Husband had changed his Work Schedule to accommodate the Appt. Serveral Emails later, she Over Looked the Fact I had wrote that my Husband would be there on the 23 rd of September, 2014. Well, Fast Forward to Today (September 19, 2014. I bought both my dogs here to get Spayed and Neuter. I recently adopted a male Japanese chin Gizmo and I already have a German Shephard mix Roxy. From the point of contact throughout the whole process it was very smooth. Sydney the spay and neuter coordinator was very nice. I had very little history in regard to Gizmo I had only had him for a approx. 2 weeks. I had brought him in to Banfield prior and they only told me he needed a teeth cleaning. When I came to pick up both dogs Sydney informed me she had some bad news in regards to Gizmo. He had a very bad case of whip worms, a fractured jaw and is very anemic. I was utterly stunned that Banfield never looked in to that. Sydney told me she made he decsion for me to get every under control and fix on Gizmo. I saw all the different prescription bottles and was worried about what it all would cost. Sydney told me, they had taken care of everything and not to worry. I am very thankful that they did all work on Gizmo and happy that they had such good staff. I could tell Sydney was a animal lover from the moment i walked in. She had offer to take Roxy to the back in the dog run. All the things they offer to insure your pet is taken care of. I am very happy to donate towards this organization and will defiantly donate more in the future. They went above and beyond to care for my pets. Gizmo has a follow up appt. in 1 month and I will purchase more food from them at that time. In regards to Roxy. We had had her since she was a puppy and she had no problems with her at all. She was in excellent health. They only meds she needed was antibiotics and de wormer in case she got worms from Gizmo. The Pixie Project has wonderful staff and is for a great cause. read more

I've loved Pixie for years, I used to take my adopted dog there to get healthy food and to get advice for how to support her in her aging. When I was ready to adopt again, I went first to Pixie. The owner, Amy, is a dog-genius and she asked me lots of questions, listened to my concerns, and really took in a deep understanding of my lifestyle, which is radically different now then it was 15 yrs ago when I got my first dog. She helped match me with a dog I never would have considered - a chihuahua! I was always a big-dog lover, but Amy's intuition was spot on, and "Frida" is my new best friend! Amy and the team at Pixie worked their tails off in helping me and Frida get over some initial behavior issues (barking, anxiety) that I thought would be deal breakers. I swear I called Amy and she called to check on us, every single day for weeks! These people are committed! She pulled out doggie-master-jedi training tricks and between that and all the faith, support and love she and the Pixie peeps showered on me and Frida - we are now settled into a happy new family! We were waiting to find the perfect cat, from the perfect adoption spot. We found it all with the Pixie Project. Sweet, friendly staff that all want to help, even if they don't have the answer, they will find someone who does. People can be really thrown by the Pixie Project asking to see their homes if there is concern for the animals future, but I found that admirable and a selling point. They are non-profit as well. They just genuinely care. Their background check was noninvasive and wasn't off putting, I would use them again in the future and have recommended them highly ever since! read more

Full disclosure... if you come in on Wednesday evening between 5-7 you will find me cleaning Kongs or potty walking the dogs. That said- I have been involved with Pixie almost since the get go and can give you the low down. Cause I know it all! If you are looking to add a dog or cat family member then check out Pixie's web site. There you will find who is currently looking for you. The cats live in the cat house at Pixie and so you can stop in and visit. They will be glad to meet you. The dogs are all in foster care or hanging out in their kennel- so call to set up an appointment when you find someone you might love. Amy and Shannon are happy to help you if you need advice, suggestions, or if you know just what you are looking for. Parking is limited. But I have never had an issue with parking in Starbucks' spaces for short visits. Oh! And if you are just looking for a dog and /or cat fix (without taking them home!)- I can recommend volunteering at Pixie Project. My final suggestion? I love this organization! The services they provide are excellent. I enjoy volunteering there, interacting with the passionate staff and the general environment. They allow anyone to come in and interact with the animals and after a little training you can walk the dogs. They take animals from high kill shelters and give them a chance to find their forever homes. The cat I adopted had been there for over six months. It's amazing that they value the lives of these animals. Any time someone talks about adopting I send them to the Pixie Project without a second thought. They are my go to. read more

I had become discouraged after a long search for an animal through a pet search engine. When someone mentioned the Pixie Project to me, I thought I would give them a shot. I called and scheduled a time to meet some pooches and when I arrived, I was given the opportunity to take three dogs for a walk and decide if one would be a good fit. That is how I met Hogan. Great organization and very lovely people! We ended up not adopting through them (got our loaf cat from the Multnomah County Animal Services instead), but our experience with the staff was a pleasant one. They were super nice and patient and didn't pressure us to decide right away. They wanted to make sure that we got the purrfect companion to suit our needs. You can tell that they really love animals and the dogs and cats there are very well taken care of. The place is clean and spacious, totally not the stereotypical depressing animal shelter. Plus, if you can't adopt right now, you can come in and pet some cats! They also have a small store and all proceeds go to the upkeep of the place. My experience at Pixie Project was awesome!! The people who work there are very knowledgeable & friendly . They truly have the animal's best interest in mind . I adopted a young black kitty named Boris in June : He is awesome!! I do not have enough words to express my appreciation for the great work done by the Pixie Project. I am a full time working parent of a child with extreme anxiety. I love dogs, but haven't had one as an adult, as I'm never home and felt it wasn't fair to a dog. I realized my daughter NEEDED a dog as an ESA to help her gain some emotional soothing skills, and I had better figure out how that would work. I contacted the Pixie Project as a hail mary, just to see if I was crazy for thinking a rescue would meet my 'never home, cuddly sweet small dog that is social and can be at work meeting people all day' requirements. Amy took my call, gave me so much information and assured me we would find the right dog. I felt so amazingly supported from the first call, to every contact in between. It took only 2 months, and Pixie found us the perfect dog for our family. From day one, our new dog family fit in perfectly, eased all my fears about not being able to do ALL THE THINGS for my daughter, for work, AND for a new dog, as Amy was right, and this dog was perfect, and eased in better than I could have even expected. Now, being in the midst of the COVID crisis, I am BEYOND grateful that this dog is home with us, and easing my daughter's anxiety, and already making all of our days better. I am now left wondering why I didn't do this sooner. The dog that I needed wasn't necessarily the dog that I always wanted (a sweet breed I knew well vs a sweet breed I had no experience with), but boy, does he fill the hole fully to overflowing. I am forever grateful to Amy and her team at Pixie Project. They do amazing work. All I can say is WOW. Amy clearly needs trazadone herself. Brought my family with to put down our family dog and this lady as absolutely zero compassion, customer service, or ability to control herself. I don't know if she's on drugs or really just does not know how to deal with animals who have a past with behavioral issues. She was acting extremely erratic around my 5 year old. Finally when she took us back to begin the process she was acting like he was the most aggressive animal she's been around(even though he was already sedated prior to our arrival). So much so that I was able to cradle him like a baby with no issues as well as my 5 year old being to pet on and love on our pup before he took his last breath. Amy made the situation even more of a nightmare than she had previously. I HIGHLY do not recommend doing business here. Amy seems to be an important figure at this organization and her overall lack of skills is truly frightening. Glad we'll never have to deal with this organization again. read more

I love the Pixie Project! After my beloved cat died suddenly, I realized that I needed another animal in my home. I was not ready to adopt because I was still grieving, but I just hated coming home to an empty house. I contact the Pixie Project about being a foster parent. Unlike many rescues, which place animals in foster home until a forever home is found, Pixie prefers to keep the cats onsite in their cattery. They do sometimes need short term fosters though, and that is what I became. I fostered several cats with them over the last year. Each cat was unique and memorable in his/her own way, but a few months ago I found one that I could not part with. She is sweet and affectionate and exactly the right fit. I recently adopted her and she is curled up on my feet as I write this! But back to the Pixie Project: they love animals! They really want you to find an animal that will fit into your family and to make sure you are a good fit for the animal too. They put in the work to make sure each match is a success. I am impressed with the amount of work they put into socializing and training the dogs in their care. This is an amazing organization- whether you want to foster, volunteer to walk dogs or are looking for a new pet. I can not say enough good things about them. read more

Apparently if you train according to Cesar Milan on TV, you shouldn't consider their rescues. They actually believe that his techniques do not work and are outdated. Cesar Milan is about establishing trust through love, time and respect, teaching calmness and being pack leader. Crazy that they think setting boundaries doesn't work. Dogs need a pack leader and it has nothing to do with being mean. If it's not you, it will be them. Being a pack leader is letting them know with your demeanor that you will take care of them. read more

Came here to get a dog with my family after my grandma and dog of 18 years passed, as we relayed to the woman that was "helping" us. Met the most perfect puppy, me and my family absolutely loved her. My little brother was so excited. On our next visit, we were going to adopt her after she met with my other dog, who is the sweetest chihuahua mix. Despite us telling them repeatedly that he is leash aggressive, they made us put him on a leash anyways to meet her. We were allowed to walk them for about 10 yards inside the building. He growled at her, so we weren't allowed to adopt her. Me and my brother and mom cried all the way home. We had all the supplies and experience to take great care of her, but the woman who told us she "had a rich family" and "does this for fun" had a thing for watching children cry I guess. This place doesn't actually seem interested in rescuing dogs and getting them to good homes so they can rescue more. I've volunteered at rescues that actually care about getting the dogs to good homes, and no one ever acted like these people. Horrible experience. Just go to Oregon Dog Rescue or something, they are a lot less conceited and rude there. read more

I volunteer at Pixie and I've adopted one of my dogs from here. The people at Pixie genuinely care about animals and treat the entire adoption process in an intelligent, heartfelt way. The dogs are kept in the back (not out front in cages for anyone to walk in and look at) to ensure a calm environment to help dogs remain low-stress. The entire experience is based around ensuring a calm, steady environment for the animals. They work hard to ensure that potential adopters go home with a pet well-suited for them. Well, we were thoroughly impressed at first, but then after our returning experience, I'm finding myself having to change the review drastically. Having been and currently still am, a small business owner, I am appalled at how we were treated upon return of the dog we initially wished to adopt. Once we got the little guy home, who we adored by the way, he wouldn't stop attacking our cat, and we've had that cat for 8 years now. He's good with every dog I've ever seen him interact with. This dog, just didn't mesh well with him, and I'm not risking the welfare of our beloved pet that's been with us for 8 YEARS. We figured let's get him back before something bad happens, which is the safest thing to do. AMY, the woman who seems to run the place (possibly the owner, not 100% sure) was incredibly rude and disrespectful to my fiancé, even raising her voice and demanding us to donate $100 for her "wasting her time". We were 100% interested in adopting from there, just a better fit for our current living situation (which is easy by the way, fenced yard, house, and a cat). Now there is NO WAY we will ever go back here again, and we will be sure to let everyone we know not to go there either. You DO NOT speak to customers like that, and if I ever caught wind of one of my employees speaking to someone like that, I would terminate them immediately. We were not rude, and genuinely felt bad about having to bring him back so quickly. Isn't about the pets, and not us??? If we felt the dog wasn't safe or our cat wasn't safe, isn't the responsible thing to do is remedy the situation and get the dog back to them safely as soon as possible? I don't know if she was just having a bad day or not, but my goodness, I've NEVER been talked to like that by ANYONE, and I was in the military for god's sake. Perhaps she needs to go to obedience school more than the pets she is sheltering. The animals seemed happy, healthy, and the location is clean, but WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE, EVER. ***THIS WAS MY REVIEW PRIOR TO OUR LAST EXPERIENCE*** WAS 5 STARS, AND NOW 2 AT BEST. Great experience thus far. Super friendly staff. Well taken care of animals, kind people all around and a really good thing they're doing. She immediately treated me as though I am irresponsible and uneducated. Not to mention the way I saw her treat her coworkers. Adopting a new family member should be a happy experience. The feeling I got there was nothing of the sort. She has no business in that place, at least when it comes with any prospective adopters. I won't be adopting there, ever. I had fallen in love with one of the dogs listed on adoption. We did attempt the adoption and fostered him for the first two weeks. Unfortunate events took place and our grandson had to move in, very young. This changed everything and we did everything to try and keep him, however it wasn't fair to him, as he would have to be kenneled way too much. It broke my heart and I had to return him. Lots of tears. When I got in touch with Amy to let her know I felt I was chastised and made to feel like I destroyed this dog. He is wonderful and will make someone a wonderful companion. On the foster guidelines it says that no one will be made to feel bad if it doesn't work out, that was not the case for myself, Amy made me feel awful and my heart is still breaking. He is a puppy and so lovable. I know he will find a forever home, but having Amy berate me because I am doing what is best for the dog is unacceptable. read more

We love this place! Amy paired us with the perfect dog which was no small task, we had many requirements. She is a born matchmaker. We love our new dog and she fits perfectly in the family. These guys take time to know their dogs and their adopters to help ensure a perfect fit. You get 2 weeks to see if your new pet is a good fit in your home and they send you with lots of info on how to make the 2 weeks work well for everyone. They even send you home with everything you need for your new pooch so you don't have to make a store stop on the way home. Once you decide to adopt you can purchase the items at what seems like a discounted rate. Everyone at Pixie was genuinely friendly and we sincerely enjoyed our experience. They took all the unknowns out of adopting a pet from a shelter and we ended up with the very best dog for our home. read more

We have adopted 3 of our 4 pets from Pixie Project and would highly recommend using them. There is a contract but the rules seem fair -- if you no longer want the pet it MUST go back to them. They really care for their animals and have wonderful foster parents that take these animals in and give them the training, love, social skills they need to be awesome pets. Pixie Project staff is rude. Their website lists specific hours but then they say it's appointment only once you get there and you also have to fill out an application online. My first experience with Pixie Project was back in 2012 when I had to re-home a Bengal cat within a very short amount of time. There was no vacancy at the time because of a full-blown building remodel that was underway but the person on the phone had the kindest voice and demeanor in the entire galaxy and gave me a lot of operational info with regards to calling no-kill shelters and other resources that eventually led to me knowing more about how many legitimate animal lovers are in this town. Two years later turns out a friend of mine was hired here (I know, my "bias" is showing, but please allow me to proceed with some objective validity claims) and so, now, I had a reason to check the place out in full life-sized 3D space! Entrance through the front door puts you inside a clean and inviting handicap-accessible room with high ceilings which seems illuminated completely by natural light that comes from outside through any one of the outer glass windows that make up the entire front end, including visual access to the room where they let a handful of cats play during open hours. Front desk staff will always smile and greet you and this lobby usually has clients, friends and volunteers with an animal or two just hanging out. This place has good "energy". They are definitely a very busy place full of people that are passionate about helping animals stay healthy and about linking them up with other humans capable of giving them the kind of homes they need. Simultaneously working with people and animals that require a litany of normally very costly services requires extremely high levels of coordination... This group can pull it off; I've seen it. They keep all areas of the building clean and keep detailed schedules of every animal and its needs daily. Every animal is known by their name and they engage them always with loving kindness. I come in one or more days during the week to hang out with a particular little chihuahua who goes to work with 'mom' every day (he was rescued by Pixie, initially, of course) and also to walk dogs or play with puppies if the staff needs help at the end of the day when there weren't enough volunteers that day to make it all happen. I see this place being a huge part of the community for many years to come. It is young and full of potential to build a stellar reputation as a non-profit that not only provides some veterinary and adoption services, but as something that will bring a lot of much needed positivity to people's lives. They're open to small groups of kids to arrange field trip type activities and are happy to simply inform anyone that walks through the door about how adoption works and about alternatives to the normally quite expensive veterinary solutions. They're more than a place to 'get the service you want' for cheaper than a corporate structured vet clinic or large bureaucratic style charity. Pixie has clearly been staffed with good human beings dedicated to being the best at what they do. Their veterinary technician alone is an absolute master and knows SO much and will openly share the finer details with you whereas someone else may assume you aren't smart enough or worth the effort of more than a pat answer. All volunteers are interviewed and screened to meet the standard of care and awareness needed to treat the animals as they are treated by the professionals. The Pixie Project is the result of genuine Portlandian altruism... an aspect of the city that I hope remains constant and evolves as things like population and cost of living continue to grow here. read more

I had my 9 month old dachshund spayed here today, and I am thoroughly blown away by how expeditious and seamless the procedure went. Being a low cost facility, I'll admit I was a little skeptical to drop her off at first, but I honestly couldn't be happier with the results. I brought my baby home about a half hour ago, and she's perfectly comfortable. She even ate an entire bowl of food too! Much respect to this place. I searched for the perfect dog for me, and found one at the Pixie Project. They were nice to me when I went in and adopted her, and provided all the medicine and stuff she needed. I have had my dog four months now and she has continuing issues with separation anxiety. I am a new dog owner, so I have a lot to learn, and I mistakenly thought I could use my instincts and what I had learned from friends and family in training my dog. I knew that I would probably need a trainer to help since I am just learning myself how to be a good dog owner. I called Amy at the Pixie Project, expecting support and advice. Instead she shamed me, cut me off, didn't let me finish explaining the behavior before she insisted my dog needed prozac. She told me in no uncertain terms that it was my fault, that I was doing it "wrong" and that I was "going to f*ck up my dog." I felt myself growing resentful and defensive. I was shocked at how mean and dismissive she was. I almost hung up on her. She would ask me a question and then when I would start to answer she would cut me off to be snide and tell me what a bad dog owner I was. I didn't feel heard or supported at all. I will NEVER talk to Pixie Project again, and NEVER recommend them to anyone. Be careful, and stay away! read more

EEK! Methinks not for sure. I took a friends dog in there to get neutered. My friend is going thru leukemia treatment so was unable to do so herself. She is financially strapped, and is having some major $ issues, so we were looking to get a good price, and was told Pixie would be the best price. Pixie Project is extremely hard to get a hold of. They could care less about answering the phone, or questions if you do get them to actually answer. When we took the puppy in to get neutered, it seemed fine. My dad dropped him off in the morning, and was told he should be ready early afternoon. We hadn't heard anything at 130, and I was in the neighborhood for work, so I stopped in to check. The lady at the front was just rude. 'Did you get a call?' 'No, but I tried calling and no one answered so I stopped in' 'The clinic is in the back, and they will call you when he is ready' 'Well, I was in the neighborhood and tried calling th..' 'IF YOU DIDN'T GET A CALL HE IS NOT READY. THEY WILL CALL WHEN HE IS READY' OK, I see this conversation is over. 30 minutes later we get a call saying he is ready for pick up, so my 84 yr old dad (I'm back at work across town) drives over from Gresham. 'I'm here to pick up Fido' We got a call saying he was ready for pickup' 'Sorry, we got busy and he's not ready. We will call when he is ready for pickup' 'I already got a call' 'We will call when he is ready' 'How long do you think?' 'We don't know, but we will call and we close at six' 'So if I can't get back here by six?' 'We will keep him overnight and charge $100 and we close at 6' So my dad decides to just sit in the parking lot and wait. We get the pickup call at 5, so dad walks back in to get Fido. The b!tch at the front gives my dad some more disrespect, so he just goes back to the clinic. The girls in the clinic are really nice, and say Fido is pretty unhappy and they are wary of him. The clinic girls leave the room while dad gets Fido out of the cage and takes him out. I would never go back here, or recommend anyone go here. Next time I'll pay a couple hundred extra and be treated at least like an animal and not like a piece of sh!t from the girl up front. read more

My family is low income and we needed to have our kitten spayed. I had several email exchanges with Amy in which she was extreamly rude. I figured she was having a bad day and let it go. She required the consent form be signed 72 hours prior to the procedure, so as soon as I received it, I completed it, signed it and sent it back. 24 hours before her appointment, I get an extreamly harsh email that state if I don't return the consent form in 1 hour, she is cancelling our appointment indefinitely. I screen shot her the copy and proved i completed her request but she didn't even apologize for being so abrasive. I came here to read the reviews and after that I just can not trust this company with the health of my pet. Its unfortunate that an employee or owner is turning away people who want to give what little money they do have to help their animals and other struggling animals due to their behavior, its unethical. read more

These guys really are "cat whisperers." A year ago, we stumbled into the cattery, just to look and pet, and we chatted with Amy about our situation with our "special" cat who was one year old, but as an only cat with some disabilities, he had a hard time learning to be a cat. She hooked us up with Igor, a tabby kitten who was all business. He came on the scene and taught our weird cat to be a real cat. One year later, and they're best of friends. This is a wonderful rescue with a fabulous and caring staff. They are very invested in the animals welfare and make the adoption process as stress free and smooth as possible. We got our pup from them and they give you 2 weeks to see if it's a good fit, providing food and everything! We love Pixie project! read more

I adopted my handsome boxer/bulldog/pit mix from the Pixie Project almost two years ago, and I love them just as much -if not more- today than the day I first found them. I went into Pixie with my eye on a very specific dog, one who I knew was being transferred from another shelter that week, and ended up calling in before they had even had time to post him on the website. They were warm, friendly and open to meeting with me from the get-go. I went in to fill out an adoption application and meet Zeus (the dog) right away and ended up spending over 3 hours in their lobby- petting Zeus, taking him for walks, filling out my application in great detail, and talking through everything with their phenomenally friendly, supportive and knowledgable team. Everyone was incredibly warm and helpful, sharing their perosnal experiences with Zeus as well as all the information they had from the other shelter. Upon hearing he was to be my first dog and I was a little nervous, they offered to write up a foster contract, meaning I could take him home (with food, crate and toys supplied by the Pixie Project) and make sure we were a good fit before I signed the official adoption. In his first week, Zeus developed symptoms of kennel cough- they had me bring him into Pixie Project and funded the vet visit and medicine for him while he was in my foster care. The founder, Amy Sacks, even personally answered my e-mails and phone calls and took a clear interest in how we were doing. I adopted Zeus two weeks later, but am so grateful that we had the opportunity to foster- Pixie clearly puts their animals best interests first and foremost in making sure they go home to the right fit. Since then, I've had the opportunity to check in with the Pixie Project on an ongoing basis- as part of a fundraising bowl-a-thon and just as an interested "pixie parent". They always respond to e-mails immediately and remember Zeus well even though he was only with them a few short days. Additionally, the Pixie Project has been an amazing resource- referring me to brands of food that would be a good fit, referring me to WonderPuppy when I wanted to take puppy classes with Zeus, and even recommending some training techniques when Zeus was having a difficult time on a leash. They didn't just want to place Zeus in a home, they wanted to make sure it's the best possible home for him, and the best possible dog for me.
