    My adorable new snuggle buddy.
    PK X.

I went there with a friend to get him a cat. He had an appointment and they were there when we showed up. While there, I met the cat of my dreams. Love at first sight. Long story short, I filled out an application and now we're best friends. My friend also found a snuggle guy to take home. We were allowed to spend as much time as we wanted with any cat. Everyone we talked to was polite and accommodating. Their facility was very clean and well organized. The cats were clean and the multi-level cages they are kept in are also clean and surprisingly spacious, with their own litter box separate from their sleeping and eating quarters. I was pretty impressed. They seem very professional, and I was surprised to read some of the other reviews. Judging from the tone of those reviews, I'd take them with a grain of salt. I didn't have that experience at all. In fact, while I was there they got a phone call from someone who "needed a puppy today for a birthday party." They refused to supply a random person a gift animal, and I'm very happy I was there to overhear it. People shouldn't give kids random animals at birthday parties. Those animals end up neglected or returned. It's sick that people treat animals like objects. I would very much recommend them to any serious animal lover.

I have taken some time before posting this review because I had a very emotional experience with pixie project of portland oregon. I rescued two cats from the streets, It was over 100 degrees they were skinny, flea infested, Earmite infested, and not neutered. I brought them home feed them got rid of fleas and mites, got them neutered and first set of shots. Taught them to play and walk on a leash. I knew when I took them in I could not keep them. I am in my mid 70s already have two cats, and a husband that is fighting cancer. But wanted to help them. Set up to surrender them to pixie project, one of the cats is not friendly with other cats except his brother, which cause a problem with my cats but he was a great cat never bit or scratched, always used cat box, didn't claw furniture very good manors and was very cuddly, both of them were cuddly. So when I surrendered them immediately they euthanized the one that didn't like other cats said he was dangerous, and then his brother howled for his brother when he was gone so they euthanized him also cause it upset the other cats. I just wanted to to suggest if your cat you are surrendering is not a perfect angel find somewhere else, or find a home for them yourself. I have posted a picture of them in their memory.

I'd give 0 stars if possible. Got an attitude from one lady that worked at the front. She gave me some standard customer service BS line at the end of our conversation b/c she didn't want to answer a question of mine. A few days to a week later I spoke with another lady with a short haircut who claimed to be a manager: she basically called me stupid while yelling at me in the parking lot b/c I mentioned my dislike of not being able to see their dogs in person. Something I've come to find out nearly EVERY SINGLE find your dog guide suggests! In person is key due to the human error factor, imagine that. Guess my assumption at the time of their practice of not allowing in person visits was correct. MY BACKGROUND: I'm a Honorable Discharge, Navy Marine Corp Achievement Medal Veteran who lost his dog June 4th, 2021 in SE Portland around Cartlandia. His name is Howie and he's a Chihuahua with a touch of Minature Pinscher. He's missing his right (or maybe left) pinky nail on his hind leg.

Unlike many rescues, which place animals in foster home until a forever home is found, Pixie prefers to keep the cats onsite in their cattery.

Oregon Dog rescue gave us a thorough medical bill assessment and behavioral recommendations. We are thrilled with this dog...so much that we adopted two more dogs. I follow daily their adoption posts in Facebook and smile when I see more dogs finding homes. The adoption process was quick but thorough. Thank you Oregon Dog Rescue!

Thankfully, I was able to find my temporary fix here at Oregon Dog Rescue. The fostering program is awesome! You fill out a basic online application and then you get nearly weekly emails with opportunities to foster. The coordinator is very good about sharing all relevant details: good with kids, plays well with other pets, etc. they provide all of the food and supplies, too! The dog walking program might be my favorite! No minimum monthly commitments like most agencies to stay active as a walker... you sign up on their website and they offer four slots per day: 7am, 10am, 12pm and 4pm. You get an hour to spend time with a dog in need of some company and exercise. The employees are friendly and approachable. I have very positive things to say about my extended bout as a volunteer here at ODR! I definitely plan to adopt from this place when I'm finally ready... and I'll get my canine fix in plentiful doses in the meantime!

It is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization and one of the only area shelters with facilities for geriatric and feline leukemia positive (FeLV+) cats. House of Dreams has a medical unit for cats who need separate living quarters while undergoing treatment too. The facility is entirely dependent upon donations, grants and events for funding. Volunteers work every day, 365 days each year, to clean and maintain the shelter, feed and look after resident kitties and those looking for their forever homes. No kitty is turned away. All cats have been spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, and are current on vaccinations, plus any additional dental and medical care the cats may need are taken care of during their stay. Every November "The Pretty Kitty Holiday Bazaar" is held and features handmade gifts for people and pets. An amazing raffle is held that is the highlight of the event. Many artists donate items to be sold for the benefit of all the resident kitties. This year the Bazaar is on November 9th from 10am to 4pm at 5441 SE Belmont, in Portland. Sharon the owner/the woman who runs this shelter told me that the "family" that dropped them off were completely unreachable. So she asked me to foster them. The day I picked them up I expressed openly that I would want to adopt them (being as they were orphans). One employee and the previous foster mom who passed them to me told me that was possible. Over 3 weeks later we received a phone call from Sharon saying that she had made a mistake and that the family wanted them all back. After the fact that several foster homes raised them during the difficult stages. Of course this was very upsetting and heartbreaking to me and my family. Come to find out she wasn't being truthful about the situation. We were told that it was 1 family that was out of town on a vacation to Europe. But the truth came forth that it wasn't 1 family but yet 3 different people. We have no idea what was in it for her financially but this seemed wrong. I received thereafter a phone call from the police dept. telling me that she was stating that me and my family had stolen these kittens. Demanding their return. This came as an incredible shock to us and our children. Who has done nothing but love, and care for these babies for weeks! My children are devastated to have to have said goodbye to 3 sweet souls that they grew to love. With reluctance we arranged a time and day to return them to her care, to avoid any legal issues. She then proceeded to accuse us of not returning the correct kittens. Again I received another call from the police dept. I just want anyone and everyone to be VERY aware of this shelter and this woman before considering adopting from them. My understanding of a shelter is to give animals a loving home and keep them off the streets. Obviously this is not her/their intent. My want to help and foster has been completely tarnished and I am now scared to ever try and help again. We hope that every animal in need finds a loving home and we would hope that this entire staff of people will find their way back to the intent of this business.....
