Pizza slices were extremely dry. Bottom was over floured and there was no crisp to the pizza. Not sure what cheese they used but it was my first time eating dry pizza. It was actually one of the worst slices I've ever had. Also soda machine not dialed in. No flavor. Tried the Dr Pepper and lemonade. Neither worked. Stumbled upon this spot during a walk in Newport and decided to try a slice. Pricing is a bit high in my opinion. Cheese starts at $5 and each topping adds about $1, but the slices are large and it is Newport, so it makes sense. The location is great and the space is small but nice. Service was warm and welcoming. The guy who took our order was very sweet. One thing I will mention there was an older lady that had a large doodle walking around eating crumbs off the floor (not leashed). The restaurant was empty, so I understand not wanting to turn customers away, but it definitely didn't feel like a place I would like to sit down to eat. Now the pizza itself is the most important part. It could've been a solid pizza at 9/10. The ingredients taste fresh and the crust is good. But our slice was overcooked, it was a little too crispy, but still good. There also wasn't enough cheese. What would knock this out of the park is a solid cheese pull type pizza and not overcooked. Overall, very good pizza in a great area with kind service. Definitely worth trying if you are in Newport. read more

This pizza spot is in a great location next to some other cool shops / restaurants / bakery It has great up close private parking Ran in here after a doctors apt. I wasn't super hungry so I shared the lunch special with a family member. The great staff, Ed (I think he is the manager or owner) took our order. We came at the perfect time because it got packed! We got a lunch special that came with a slice of pizza, a salad, a drink and he kept giving us refills of garlic knots. (We ordered an extra drink obviously) The pizza slice was huge and he asked if we wanted him to cut it right down the middle. Which was perfect The salad was loaded with tons of stuff. It had peppers, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, carrots and etc. And it was a large portion This seems to be a local favorite, which is always a great sign. The staff was super friendly and helpful. This is on the smaller side. I do wish it had more tables. I noticed it was a lot of take out orders and people running in for their lunch special And the drinks we got were fountain drinks and we could get refills. So that's always a bonus! I'll definitely grab a full pizza next time I'm in this area, which seems to be a lot lately read more

We were staying at Newport Dunes and decided to eat at The Pizza Bakery. We saw the Yelp reviews and found they were accurate! The staff greeted me when I walked in and were very friendly. The pizza was as described in the other reviews. It was hot and cooked perfectly. What a great find and only 10 minutes from Newport Dunes. What a gem!!!!! Apparently they've been around for years and I only discovered this pizza place today. Great value and great combo deals. Definitely worth the price and the drive. The best part is that the specials can be ordered any time of the day, unlike other places that only have lunch specials. The employee helping us at the front recommended the #2 individual special: giant slice of pizza with one topping, a drink, and a lunch salad. Stepping into this nostalgic little pizza shop felt sweet. A sign on the window proudly shared they've been serving the community since 1990, 35 years you can feel that history in every detail. The exterior is charming and cozy, the owner was there greeting guests with genuine warmth, and the service was top-notch. Let me tell you something about the Pizza Bakery- I've been coming here for the past 20 years. It was excellent then and it is excellent now! I love doing a custom pizza personally. The people who work here are really nice. They offer free garlic knots with your order. It's a cozy little walk in pizza place. This review is LONG overdue! To say that John and his team at The Pizza Bakery go above and beyond would be an incredible understatement. Long before joined the team at ENC, I was a devoted Pizza Bakery fan, and when I became vegan 15 years ago, I was thrilled to continue enjoying so many of their delicious pizzas, fresh salads, and of course, their famous garlic knots! Most recently, our Preschool hosted our annual movie night, and after our order was picked up, John personally reached out to thank us for including Pizza Bakery in our special event. I apologized for not confirming the final details and explained that I had unexpectedly undergone an emergency appendectomy and was just released from the hospital. Without hesitation, John replied with kind words of encouragement and offered to send a delivery to my home, on him. His thoughtfulness moved me to tears. Although I wasn't able to accept due to my recovery/dietary restrictions, his gesture meant more than I can express and reminded me how special this connection truly is. Over the years, John has personally delivered our graduation pizzas, supported us during Teacher Appreciation Week, in-service days, occasional baby/bridal showers, and often helps me surprise our amazing Nature Teachers with their favorite lunch! (This is in addition to the support they provide annually to our Nature Center Events). Every interaction reflects the same kindness, generosity, and genuine care that make Pizza Bakery such a beloved part of our community. And to be honest it's really good food at decent pricing - and still is my go to spot for their meatball sub. The establishment is clean and the ambiance is very much "local" spot vibes. My issue is in the fact that: 1. We ordered to-go but my partner changed their mind and wanted to enjoy our food inside. Upon asking the staff (a young lady) - she made it seem like it was a major drag to simply change our order to dine in so we opted to leave instead. 2. Pizza is good, cool shop, I got a take out order and had to ask for cheese packs, and was given 3 for a large. Thought this was strange, but the pizza came out fast and we enjoyed it. I did see comments about the sauce lacking, and it was so good and sweet but for sure could use some more. I will return for sure! read more

I have been patronizing this pizzeria for about fifteen years now, stopping whenever I'm in Costa Mesa. It has a nice bright vibe with SoCal murals on the wall. The Thai-style "barbecue chicken" pizza is delicious, with peanut sauce, chicken, scallion, cheese, and cilantro. They also have little garlic "knots"--like garlic bread balls-- that they share liberally. I enjoy their spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread as well. It's a simple place with good food and some family menu combinations. They also have a "punch card" system where you can earn a $5 credit. Club soda at the fountain also appreciated. You can choose some salads and desserts from the front cooler, and I believe they offer gluten-free crust. There's a fun gum-ball machine, too! It's the only place in SoCal that I know of that offers the Thai peanut pizza--give it a try! read more
