I'm guessing that all the 5* reviews are based on friendly service and good beer bc I don't really love the pizza. I ordered take our--2 signature pizzas for $60. They were "large" but they are like the regular 14" pizzas. No worries, I think if you go here and get beers and piping hot pizzas, they will prob be better. We liked the topping combination of the bacon Alfredo (bacon spinach onion mushrooms). The truffle Pizza was fine. The dough is kinda dry. I think if folks like zpizza will like this style. I prefer wetter, crisper almost burnt bottoms like New Haven style of urbn pizza. Its conveniently located in La Jolla shopping mall but parking can be hard certain times of the day and esp on weekends.

A good selection of different pizza and pasta options that I enjoyed eating. I would like to come back to try more! The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and they are kind to large parties. It is in the mall, so it has very casual vibes.

Great deals, friendly vibe from staff, and lots of beer on tap. The pizza was great and such a large slice too. Crust was good and crispy, and it wasn't too thin! I was very very upset my salad came out so late. My partner and I had finished our pizza, and we were still waiting on the salad. We asked about it twice and we were the only ones there dining at the time. A party had just walked in when we finished our pizza. When the salad came out, it didn't even taste fresh when we got it I was wondering what took so long. The salad was wilted and tasted nearly spoiled. Like today would be the last day they could sell it. I'm disappointed, but the staff did genuinely apologize.

Have been in La Jolla the past few days and was in the mood for pizza. The location also has a nice assortment of beers. The beer I ordered was the peanut-butter stout and it was nice and cold and tasted great. The pizza I ordered was made pretty quickly and I took it back to my hotel. I ordered the American and it was excellent. Very high quality sausage, a good balance of cheese and a nice crisp thin crust that was perfect. Overall a nice place to get a beer or two and pizza. The menu did offer a wider range of options too.

Are you ready for dinner too? The service is great. The ambience is cool and inviting.

Conveniently located in La Jolla, this place has a very casual and chill vibe where you can get great pizzas and a wide array of drinks all at the same time. They have a very wide selection of drinks including a beer wall. If you want a place to casually socialize but also want real food, this is the place to be. I usually order the meat lover pizza. The pizza is very well done and quite flavorful. The crust is also very crispy. The wait can be a bit on the longer end during prime dinner time, but overall the pizza came out on a timely fashion. Servers are all very nice and answered all the questions. They were very helpful in helping me decide what drinks to get. Some of them also strike small conversations creating a very social and friendly environment. Parking is plentiful. The parking lot is very open and free! That's very hard to come by these days especially in the heart of La Jolla.

Yummy pizza! Fun seating with tvs, games, and even a self serve tap bar. My bf and I came on a random, so glad we did because we tried their small buffalo ranch pizza and it was so delicious. It was nice and creamy, the cheese paired great with their sauce and the crust was crusty - how we like it haha. We also got their Chicken Alfredo Pasta, a great sharing size! Also great and it had mushrooms a nice addition. The workers were friendly and patient with us as we skimmed the menu. We didn't wait long for our food to come out either, fast and efficient I would say. Overall great place! Would definitely come back for pizza night with friends it seems like a fun atmosphere (they have game boards)!

The pizza taproom is one of the few places that are sports bar esque in the UTC area. The combos have a really good value and there's many beers and wine to choose from. The pizza was decent but good for the price. Fast service and self serve options as well.

Excellent service, pizza and salad. Great deal. Highly recommend. Staff very nice and helpful.

Great pizza and the salads! Hot honey pepperoni and the pear with gorgonzola salad are my go to! Great food before going to the movies, or Great spot for a dinner date. Service is always friendly!

What an incredible accidental find.. I was craving chicken wings ans pizza and this place SERVED!!!! I'm a sucker for pizza by the slice and they had a bunch of options. My slice was perfectly cooked and well made with fresh veggies piles on top. The hot honey chicken wings were incredible - perfectly fried and juicy and sticky with that sweet spice that lingered on your lips for a few minutes. I enjoyed the beer tap wall, you get a card and get to fill your own glass with beer. its a great way to sample new drinks without bothering the bar tender! I'm also a crazy person and like to mix beers together like Heff's and sours.. some don't taste great, but that's cool I tried it judgement free!

The shelves are lined with a wide selection of liquors and spirits and everything is tastefully placed. There is even a fun little gimmick: a secret revolving platform that takes you into the main bar. The bar features a beautiful central fountain space with the tables organized along the edges of the room. The room is dimly lit for an intimate mood, but it makes it really hard to see things in my opinion. Unfortunately this is where the curtains are drawn and we find it was a sheep masquerading as a wolf all along. Their cocktail menu was extensive. The drinks had clever names and interesting flavors, but none of them really wowed. The whiskey menu was one of their strengths, featuring a good selection of American, Japanese, and Scotch whiskeys. The service was excellent; our server was super helpful and very knowledgeable of the entire menu. Overall, RBW's strength is in their presentation and vibe, but falls a bit flat when it comes to flavor.

Ended up giving the hotel restaurant a chance despite the 3.5 rating. Was very pleased with our experience! Our food was pretty good Salmon was an amazing recommendation The braised short rib was a little disappointing. Flavor did not penetrate the meat so it felt bland. The wine sauce was very subtle. But the mash potatoes were good. The Ahi Tuna tostadas definitely had really good flavor! The cheesecake was good paired with a cup of Americano. The price did feel on the high side for the portion size and quality, but I think we're really just paying for the convenience. Wasn't very busy, service was attentive. We were seated right away, and our server was very nice, attentive and polite throughout the meal. The food came out at somewhat different times, but nothing unreasonable, and she did a good job checking on us. The food itself was okay. My Caesar salad could have used a little more dressing, although I could have asked for more, and the steak flatbread was pretty good, maybe a little better than average. What brought the experience down for me was the price and the way the charges were presented. Two drinks, a flatbread and a salad came to around $80. There was also a surcharge described as helping defray the cost of minimum wage, plus an 18% service charge added to the bill. We were a party of six, although we had separate checks, so it's possible the 18% was related to the size of the group. Either way, I'd rather a restaurant simply build its operating costs into the menu prices instead of adding extra surcharges at the end. And in this case, our server actually deserved a good tip, I probably would have given her 20% because she did a very good job, but I still prefer having that choice rather than having it automatically added. Good service, decent food, but for me the overall value wasn't quite there.

"Hey Derek, we're going to Happy Hour at Karl Strauss. If you're interested, feel free to join us!"…read more "Hmm is that the same Karl Strauss that I saw in Metro Pointe at South Coast??" I thought to myself. Sure enough, it was! I was in the Sorrento Valley region of San Diego to work for a couple of days there, and on my first day, I received this invite to join the team for a Happy Hour outing at this SoCal Brewery. I had seen them before when I caught a movie at Regal Edwards Metro Pointe in Costa Mesa; Karl Strauss was nearby, and I happened to spot it while taking a leisurely walk around that shopping center. When I saw it was a brewery, I didn't think I'd ever want to go because I don't drink alcohol, but when I saw their Happy Hour specials were $12 apps on top of $6 beers, I figured I'd make the most of this opportunity to try an appetizer at a discounted price! I got there kind of late, but that's because I was idiotic enough to pass the brewery not once, but twice! Yes, twice to figure out which parking lot was for Karl Strauss. And even the lot got kind of confusing as there was a gate arm right next to the entrance, though it wasn't prohibiting cars from entering the lot. It's a pretty large lot, but it only allows for 2 hours of visitor parking. I was fortunate enough to score a parking spot that was literally closest to the entrance without it being handicapped. A couple of directional arrows initially got me in the right direction, but then a fork in the trail had me hesitating on which path to take. Luckily, a co-worker passed by and guided me to the left trail where we saw the rest of the team at a large community table on the lower level of the outdoor patio. And shortly after, I was getting Japanese Tea Garden vibes with the pond that was on the other side of the railing, though I can't confirm the presence of koi fish in there. Since it was my first time at any Karl Strauss location, I wouldn't have known that we had to scan the QR code on the table to order if not for a co-worker mentioning this; imagine if I were awkwardly sitting there waiting for a server to come take my order only for it to never happen! Since all appetizers were $12, I was intent on ordering the most expensive one to get the most savings. The Shrimp Tostadas and Ahi Poke Nachos were tied for first at $18.95, but the Ahi Poke Nachos had an option for avocado for an additional $3. Perusing their menu, I saw the Ahi Poke Nachos, but not the Shrimp Tostadas*, which confused me, but also made my choice way easier lol. I also saw the avocado would still be a $3 upcharge even during Happy Hour, so I ordered the Ahi Poke Nachos sans avocado. After submitting my order, the nachos were ready within 5 minutes, which surprised me so much that I didn't believe him when he said "Ahi Poke Nachos" the first time! I wasn't given an order number, but the QR codes on each table are uniquely identified by a table number, helping the servers identify who placed the order they are carrying. If you decide to move tables for a better view, don't place your order before doing so! Otherwise, your order will be taken to an empty table lol I definitely enjoyed the Ahi Poke Nachos, but I did think the sauce and aioli were quite salty or sour for my liking. Also, the tortilla chips weren't that strong; there was a certain amount of sauce each chip could take before cracking, and I felt that threshold was a little lower than the norm. Nevertheless, everything went well together, and I'm glad I chose this over the Asada Fries, which were 45 cents cheaper. Actually, a co-worker did order the Asada Fries and mentioned that as much as he enjoyed the fries, he actually got full from them! For me, after finishing the Ahi Poke Nachos, I had room to eat some more that were shared by a co-worker, who ordered it after seeing I had ordered the Ahi Poke Nachos and hearing my reasoning of why I ordered that. He also ordered a burger and fries, graciously sharing the fries with me in the process. I thought the fries were pretty good, but they certainly weren't extraordinarily good by any means. But with a traditional burger, these fries would hit the spot! I previously mentioned how easy it was for me to find parking upon arrival, which was about 3:40 PM. When I left a couple hours later, the parking lot was so full that someone was waiting for my spot. Overall, I had a good first experience at a Karl Strauss! I'd recommend, even if you're not a beer drinker :) * We later learned from a server that the Shrimp Tostadas weren't eligible for the Happy Hour pricing. I don't remember the exact reason, but I believe it had to do with it being a seasonal menu item, which didn't make much sense to me. It would have been helpful for the menu to point this out in some way, shape, or form because I'd be pretty unhappy to order the Shrimp Tostada during Happy Hour only to realize it would be charged full price. Hopefully this didn't happen to another customer.

Ambiance: Watering Hole follows the typical local bar vibe of a jukebox, pool table, and bar area. We came on a Saturday night and there was a decent amount of people. Drink-wise: Draft beer is affordable around $7. I didn't purchase mixed drinks so can'r speak on that, but they likely aren't back breaking on the price. Service: there was one bartender working the night but he was quick and efficient with everyone. In summary, the Watering Hole is a solid dive bar. Nothing crazy to offer which isn't a bad thing. Just a simple, nice local bar for people to hang out, talk, and have fun.

Overall, I'd personally rate my experience about 3 1/2, the overall meal was solid and my friend really enjoyed her entrée! We started with the hummus and pita, and I can absolutely see why it's so highly rated. The hummus was smooth, flavorful, and well-seasoned, but the real standout was the pita bread. It was incredibly fluffy, warm, garlicky, and easily my favorite thing we ordered. I'd happily come back just for that appetizer. For my entrée, I ordered the fish and chips after seeing several people recommend it. The fish itself was cooked well with a nice crispy coating, and the fries were perfectly fine--nothing wrong with them, but nothing particularly memorable either. My only real complaint was the tartar sauce, which I found much sweeter than I prefer. It just wasn't the flavor profile I was expecting. Overall, it was a decent fish and chips plate, but it didn't really wow me. My friend ordered the lamb dinner (not pictured) and thought it was excellent. I trust her judgment, and it definitely seemed like one of the stronger dishes on the menu. We finished by sharing the chocolate dessert since the only other option was a lemon dessert, which neither of us was in the mood for. It was interesting because it was much more mousse-like than traditional cake. Honestly, I'm still not sure whether to call it a cake or a cheesecake, but either way it was rich, smooth, and delicious. My favorite part was the chocolate graham cracker crust, which really brought the whole dessert together. The restaurant itself had a relaxed atmosphere, and service was friendly throughout our visit. While my entrée wasn't a standout, the appetizer, dessert, and my friend's excellent meal made for an enjoyable lunch overall. I'd definitely come back, though next time I'd be more inclined to try one of the other entrées instead of the fish and chips.

He is the quintessential local you want to keep, a generous, gregarious tipper, who makes your establishment shine, who makes an establishment feel larger, feel welcoming, the place you want to come back to. on this dark, gray day, it turned black. ownership has changed. He was guilty of proffering a gift card, for the simple crime of a few happy hour beers.... Current ownership, former employees, would not except it. He was distraught. VERY large gift card. A VERY loyal customer. I sat, I watchec, the gentlemanly manner, in which he expressed his dissatisfaction. I have previously had to use California law, in similar situations. General California Gift Card Rules No Expiration: Most gift cards sold in California cannot have an expiration date and remain valid until they are redeemed or replaced. Cash Redemption: If the balance on a gift card is less than $10, California law requires the merchant to redeem it for cash upon request. (Note: This threshold is set to increase to $15 on April 1, 2026). Liability of Previous Owner: If a new owner is not legally obligated to honor your card, your legal claim is technically against the previous owner who originally took your money. Next Steps for Consumers Ask the New Owner: Many new owners will honor old gift cards as a gesture of goodwill to retain local customers and protect the brand's reputation. Verify the Business Entity: You can check the California Secretary of State's business search to see if the legal entity behind the restaurant name has changed. Contact the Previous Owner: If the current management refuses the card, you may need to seek a refund from the individual or company that originally sold it to you. Would you like help looking up the current business registration for a specific restaurant to see if the legal entity has changed? Big mistake, new owner. This is sport, for me. We will be back, but you wont be our first choice, anymore. We are pillars of the community. This will cost you a lot more, than your black and white interpretation, which, I will be looking into you transfer, don't think I it was chapter 7. I commend you on your bravery, on sticking to your soulless business acumen, and knowledge of what it takes, to provide customer service, rewarding loyalty, in these times of diminishing returns. I certainly will be back rarely. Wow. Seriously, that's how you run this business? Maybe, a business manager, an etiquette course? I did customer relations for a bank, a chain of appliance stores, USPS, just take my fee, out of the gift card. Update Asset vs. Stock Sale: If it is an "asset purchase" (buying equipment/name, not the corporate entity), the buyer typically inherits no liabilities unless agreed upon. Gift Cards: The new owner is not legally required to honor old gift cards unless they agreed to, or they are deemed a "continuation" of the old business, according to a discussion on Facebook. Successor Liability: California courts might impose liability if the new company is just a sham to avoid debt. Best Practice: The buyer should request a list of outstanding gift cards and demand the seller transfer cash to cover them to prevent loss of goodwill. If a new owner refuses to honor a gift card, consumers can complain to the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Sir, did you practice best practice? I'll let you know what the Department says
