Really disappointed and sad with my experience at Pizza Taproom. The pizza looked like it had been sitting out for a long time, so I politely asked if they could give me a fresh slice since I could literally see fresh pizza ready behind the counter. They refused, which came across as unnecessarily stingy. To make things worse, there were flies in the pizza case, they really need to keep the food covered better. The pizza was not great, cheese did not taste high quality and they charged me an extra $1 for ranch. Regents pizza which is less than a mile away is way better and don't charge me for ranch and their pizza case is clean with no flies. The Brussels sprouts took forever to come out, and the Caesar salad was extremely basic. The croutons didn't even taste freshly made, which is surprising and honestly kind of sad for a pizza place that already has bread dough available. Nearby spots like Regents Pizza do a much better job overall. Definitely would not recommend, and I won't be bringing friends or family here again. read more

I'm guessing that all the 5* reviews are based on friendly service and good beer bc I don't really love the pizza. I ordered take our--2 signature pizzas for $60. They were "large" but they are like the regular 14" pizzas. No worries, I think if you go here and get beers and piping hot pizzas, they will prob be better. We liked the topping combination of the bacon Alfredo (bacon spinach onion mushrooms). The truffle Pizza was fine. The dough is kinda dry. I think if folks like zpizza will like this style. I prefer wetter, crisper almost burnt bottoms like New Haven style of urbn pizza. Its conveniently located in La Jolla shopping mall but parking can be hard certain times of the day and esp on weekends. read more

I was very very upset my salad came out so late. My partner and I had finished our pizza, and we were still waiting on the salad. We asked about it twice and we were the only ones there dining at the time. A party had just walked in when we finished our pizza. When the salad came out, it didn't even taste fresh when we got it I was wondering what took so long. The salad was wilted and tasted nearly spoiled. Have been in La Jolla the past few days and was in the mood for pizza. The location also has a nice assortment of beers. The beer I ordered was the peanut-butter stout and it was nice and cold and tasted great. The pizza I ordered was made pretty quickly and I took it back to my hotel. I ordered the American and it was excellent. Very high quality sausage, a good balance of cheese and a nice crisp thin crust that was perfect. Overall a nice place to get a beer or two and pizza. Conveniently located in La Jolla, this place has a very casual and chill vibe where you can get great pizzas and a wide array of drinks all at the same time. They have a very wide selection of drinks including a beer wall. If you want a place to casually socialize but also want real food, this is the place to be. I usually order the meat lover pizza. The pizza is very well done and quite flavorful. The crust is also very crispy. The wait can be a bit on the longer end during prime dinner time, but overall the pizza came out on a timely fashion. Servers are all very nice and answered all the questions. They were very helpful in helping me decide what drinks to get. Some of them also strike small conversations creating a very social and friendly environment. Parking is plentiful. The parking lot is very open and free! That's very hard to come by these days especially in the heart of La Jolla. read more

Yummy pizza! Fun seating with tvs, games, and even a self serve tap bar. My bf and I came on a random, so glad we did because we tried their small buffalo ranch pizza and it was so delicious. It was nice and creamy, the cheese paired great with their sauce and the crust was crusty - how we like it haha. We also got their Chicken Alfredo Pasta, a great sharing size! Also great and it had mushrooms a nice addition. The workers were friendly and patient with us as we skimmed the menu. We didn't wait long for our food to come out either, fast and efficient I would say. Overall great place! I'm a huge pizza guy and this is one of my go to spots. It's tucked away in the utc area but it's got an awesome selection of beers and ciders on tap and the pizza is delicious. The only reason I give this four stars is because at times the pizza wasn't the same quality as usual so it was slightly disappointing but most times the food is great! read more

What an incredible accidental find.. I was craving chicken wings ans pizza and this place SERVED!!!! I'm a sucker for pizza by the slice and they had a bunch of options. My slice was perfectly cooked and well made with fresh veggies piles on top. The hot honey chicken wings were incredible - perfectly fried and juicy and sticky with that sweet spice that lingered on your lips for a few minutes. I enjoyed the beer tap wall, you get a card and get to fill your own glass with beer. its a great way to sample new drinks without bothering the bar tender! Order at the register and they bring the food to you. Each table had Parmesan, chili oil and red pepper flakes. Napkins are by the soda machine. I did not see a trash can anywhere. I've been to The Pizza Taproom several times, and the pizza has been consistently really good. we have gone to this pizza taproom since it was zpizza when first built at this location. The owner is very nice and was really kind to us during COVID and our children who were toddlers at the time. The staff as well. We usually get the pizzas and have tried most of them. our family favorites are the cheese and California roasted veggies with chicken. It has become a little family thing to go there with our kids as we love across the street. If you want tasty pizza and nice vibes it's great. we don't drink so can't comment on the beer part but people seem to like the variety. I originally found the Pizza Taproom when my daughter began her studies at UCSD and we stopped by to check it out because she had heard they had vegan options. We had so much fun being able to try beers from the taps ourselves (one of our favorite things is the cards that you tap and pour your own beer). So, when it was time for my daughter's graduation, I sent an email to the manager and set up a reservation for her to have some family and friends for her graduation party. Everyone was able to choose their own pizzas and beers and then we just paid for everything at the end after everyone enjoyed themselves. There was food for everyone's dietary preferences (Vegan and gluten free). They had set up an area for us and even let me have the cake delivered(they kept it refrigerated) before we arrived. The staff was so accommodating and the manager, Yara, was exceptional with communication before and after the party to make sure everything went as planned. This place is pretty nice. I had a slice of chicken garlic pizza (I think that's what it was called), a Cesar salad and Parmesan fries. The pizza was perfect, their warming process crisped the crust perfectly and made sure the cheese was melted well. The fries were delicious! The ranch was also good and made for good dipping. They have lunch specials on weekends and although I don't drink, the beer taps seemed to be good for people looking for that aspect. The people working are nice and friendly and great at suggestions. We eat vegan, so we REALLY appreciate that Pizza Taproom has several vegan pizzas to choose from with vegan cheese and some tasty vegan meat options. This is a rarity for pizza places -- if you want vegan, all you get at most pizza places is tomato sauce and a handful of veggies on top. Ugh. Thank you Pizza Taproom for caring about your plant-eating customers -- we appreciate it! I personally love the pour-it-yourself wall of beer taps -- always something interesting to drink. I have been to The Pizza Taproom twice now and both times I went was a great experience. From the friendly and helpful staff to the delicious food, I highly recommend that you try out this spot. The ambiance was decent...not too loud, enough seating so it didn't feel cramped, and cleanliness of the tables and dining area was good. The first time I dined in, I got their Meat Lovers Pizza. The toppings on the pizza were good quality and tasted great. The crust was baked well and there was a good distribution of cheese, sauce, and toppings on the pizza. I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. The second time I went, I got their Chicken Pesto Pasta. I liked that they added enough Pesto to it and the addition of the Capers just set the pasta off...in a good way, of course. Very flavorful and it was one of the better Pesto Pastas I've had. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Everyone that worked there that I personally encountered was very nice and helpful when it came to deciding what I wanted to order. 5 out of 5 stars overall for The Pizza Taproom. I will definitely be back and next time I'll try some of their beers and other menu items. read more

There was a lot of us who came after a wedding in a nearby venue so I was able to taste several of their selections--this place is haven for pizza-loving vegans and vegetarians, but meat-eater that I am, my favorites were the ZCarnivore, ZAmerican and Sausage and Mushroom. It was also our first time to go to a beer tap room and we loved the experience! Not much of a beer drinker but I appreciate being able to taste different varieties in small servings. You get a tap card, choose your beer- they have about more than twenty selections and you can see on the label (screen) the descriptions and the price per ounce- then you tap your card, fill your glass and enjoy your drink. The pizza here is decent but if I'm honest with you, I wouldn't come here without the hot honey.
