This small establishment offered a surprising amount of local charm from the cozy seating to the "hometown" decor. The menu shows personality with fun entree names as well. I ordered a pizza while my friend ordered a tuna sandwich, and we both shared some fried mozzarella. The plate sizes were surprisingly large which meant that we were both able to take some home after the meal. All the food was good, but I would describe the quality more as reliable as opposed to extraordinary. There was nothing wrong with any of it, but the flavor failed to stand out in any way. Great bar atmosphere and a fun place to grab a bite to eat and a beer. The staff is always friendly. My son and I grabbed a salad and 16 wings; 8 Honey BBQ and 8 Garlic Parmesan. The creamy garlic salad dressing on the salad could be a little more garlicky, but it's good. The wings are meaty and juicy and the sauces weren't too heavy. The garlic parm was our favorite. I placed an on-line order for a tuna sandwich at 4:55pm. It stated to pick-up in 30 mins. I went to the restaurant at 5:30pm and was told my order wasn't ready so I waited. Fifteen minutes later I asked again if my order was ready. It wasn't. Ten minutes later they said my order was ready but when I checked the bag my order was missing the 4-bean salad. The girl apologized and she went to get it. Finally another woman came out and said they were all out, that she called me and left a message. When I looked at my phone, she called 10 minutes after I was already waiting in the restaurant! She said they could refund the cost of the salad or I could substitute something. I asked for the refund. I'm still waiting for it to hit my credit card. On top of it, when I got home my sandwich was missing cheese someone forgot to include. This was a horrible experience. Second time here and it's pretty consistent. The servers are so kind and patient. They frequently check on you and bring by sauces or parm's without even asking. The beer selection is pretty valid too. Theyre cold and crisp, perfect addition to a quick casual meal. The wings are spectacular. I've decided to come back often to try every flavor. They are cooked really well, not all soggy like some places. The pizzas has been good each time. The Plum Tomato is a staple in Colchester and draws an eclectic crowd; everyone from toddlers in high chairs to seniors, sharing the cozy space. It was mobbed for lunch on a Monday, with apparently only one server working the entire dining room, but work it she did! We had a bit of a wait, but it was understandable. The menu hasn't changed much and that's a good thing. We got two Bubba Gump brickinis and a tuna fattini, and everyone was happy. We wanted pizza and our usual place was closed, our son's best friend said that this is the best place in town so we decided to give it another shot since the first issue was six years ago. We ordered one Hawaiian, and one pepperoni mushroom. I wasn't given a Cost over the phone, but I figured it would probably be like $35/$45 with tip. I go to pick it up 45 minutes later and the lady at the counter told me my bill was $60... for two pizzas and 3 small bottles of soda. I recently ate at the Plum Tomato in Colchester. We have eaten at the restaurant in East Lyme about 5 times. I'm not the biggest fan of Plum Tomato but others like it. The restaurant in Colchester is not the same as the restaurant in East Lyme. The sandwich I ordered had no resemblance to the same order in EL. It was small, cold and didn't even appear to have the same ingredients on it. I asked that it be reheated and then asked for some more sauce. The waiter brought me a dish of lukewarm sauce. I guess it didn't occur to him that if he just had to reheat my meal he should heat up the sauce. My husband ordered the peanut butter pie and I started laughing. We recently rediscovered The Plum Tomato. We wandered in on a quiet Tuesday and had the place almost to ourselves. I like that they have separate entrances for take out and dine in so that traffic is separate. The atmosphere is comfy with wood floors and wood tables and old signs. Our waitress was very nice and answered all our questions about the menu. They have great sandwich options and a bunch of creative pizzas. The waitress was spot on with our beers and food and was very nice. We have been here twice now and nothing has disappointed! The sauce on the pizza tastes home made (I do think they make it) and the soups are definitely made in house. I hear they get busy around the weekends, but I highly recommend trying it out of your haven't been in a while or haven't ever been! read more

We have been getting our pizza here for years. We are now able to get delivery. Last night I ordered my pizza online for delivery. After waiting an hour for my pizza, it arrived. Instead of putting artichokes on it, they put anchovies! I could not even eat it! I called to let them know and instead of putting me to the top of the list for a new pizza I was informed I would have to wait for another hour! I told them forget it and they gave me credit. It is a really excellent little restaurant if you take it for what it is. Small, cozy, family-friendly with reasonable prices but good quality and even healthy foods on the menu. Plum Tomato is kind of a hidden gem ... you wouldn't really think it was this good from outside appearances. It isn't too fancy and doesn't try to be. It is kind of quirky and cool and nostalgic inside. They have families with children, friends hanging out and couples out for a date. No bar but a nice selection of wine, cocktails and local brews. So it's not too often that I get down to the Colchester area and I'm actually okay with that. After years of my Lacrosse teams beating up on their Lacrosse teams, there's a fair amount of bad blood there and I'm not sure I'm even legally allowed to cross the town line. That being said a recent visit by my daughter's high school lacrosse team to Bacon Academy meant I had to go back and would need a place to celebrate what was sure to be a decisive victory. Spoiler alert, it was. Luckily a coworker of my wife suggested this place when my wife told her that we were headed to town over the weekend. Apparently, she had worked there back in the day and swore by the place as a must try. That's enough to get me in the door. The place was located right on the main strip and easy enough to find. Nothing too flashy or pretentious happening on the outside and mostly looked pretty cozy. We were seated right away and offered menus and drinks. I knew for sure that there was going to be a pizza happening and right away looked for the one with the most meat involved. Godfather it was! The wings also came highly recommended so went ahead and ordered the "Plum" size of hot wings (12). Wife and daughter opted for wraps as per usual. Wings came out quickly and were absolutely amazing. Super meaty, great sauce, top notch for sure. Mains came out soon after and we were in full feed face mode. As far as the Pizza goes, it was pretty much what I was hoping for and expecting: nice crispy wood-fired crust, sweet and tangy red sauce and super high quality tasting toppings. The toppings, in particular, grabbed me as nothing tasted like out of a bag here. All fresh and fantastic. Wraps were also on point and at the very high end of the taste scale. In the end, we were in and out of there in less than 45 minutes and the food and service left absolutely nothing to be desired. Food is good. We always stop when we are in the area. HOWEVER, the service is awful. We arrived at 1pm, with 3 tables already seated. We ordered within 5 minutes, took 20 minutes to get our waters, and over an hour to get our food. The waitress never came to the table to check on us. She hid in the kitchen because very clearly she forgot to enter our order. A couple that came in 45 minutes after us got their food within 15 minutes. I love love the plum tomato. I really do. I get anything and I am always satisfied. I love the pizza, salads and soups every time I go. I was the second table there at 11:45am. After I ordered, the place became quite busy. My visit today was the opposite. At first I was happy to be there but after ordering a lemonade, I was told the machine was out. Ok, so I stuck with water. The salad was delicious and always fresh. I get them often and enjoy them each time. Then I ordered the Horton as I absolutely love eggplant. As a chef myself, I always go for foods that I don't feel like making but enjoy trying at all restaurants! Eggplant is always a go to. I get it on your pizza and am always pleased. The sandwich arrived and the top of the bread had a scorch mark on it so it was unappetizing to look at, however I understood it's brick oven fired so I forgave that. A little char is lovely! The pieces of eggplant had a horrible mouth feel and was definitely fried in oil that wasn't up to temp. Zero crispness and very oily. Half of the skins were unpleasant and had that rubbery chew that can come from improperly cooked eggplant. The Caramelized onions definitely had skins in them, so many of the bites were tough and they were also chewy. I love the sauce at plum tomato and the melty cheeses were delish so it was all edible! But, I wasn't enjoying it as I was hoping. I would have said something and even sent it back but the waitstaff never came over to ask if I was satisfied. I saw that she and the other waitstaff was very busy however I was a paying customer too. So I sat and ate the sandwich I wasn't enjoying. I ate it so overall, it's ok. I just expected better. Then it was time to leave and I sat with my empty plate and empty drink and waited, and waited. Then waited a bit more. Not once had she come over to the section I was sitting in for me to even flag her down. I left some cash and left. THAT I feel bad for and I apologize big-time. I was just not happy and just needed to leave. I will def be back but had to leave this as I was just not satisfied today. Today. We stopped here on a Friday night. The dining room was busy, but we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Liz T was friendly and courteous, and kindly offered the 3 kids paper and crayons without us having to ask. My husband and I split the Godfather pizza and I got the Greek salad. Great food great servers! Restaurant was as busy as I've ever seen it since the covid pandemic. We ordered fiesta fries which were plentiful and Delicious as our appetizer. Loved them! Also ordered a large sandwich (enough to feed 3 people) which was so good and would recommend it to anyone and a large grandfather pizza which was perfect.
