I ordered the goodluck cocktail since it had all my favorite ingredients (cucumber, mint, lime, gin) and was beyond pleased! We had the garlic shrimp and the frickles as appetizers. You have to try the garlic shrimp; it was so good I asked the server for more bread just so I could savor the sauce!! For dinner I had the best fish tacos I've ever had, which the server recommended and my husband had he smoked chicken Parmesan. I came here once for drinks and got an appetizer of something like stuffed figs wrapped in bacon I think it was? They were sublime. Another time had a waffle or french toast, with bacon and coffee. One of my favorite places to eat in Astoria. Food is amazing, and they really stand by their quality (if something isn't right they will fix it). Staff is very friendly and are accommodating if you have to make substitutions for food allergies like me which is such a relief. They always have some vegetarian items on menu like the halloumi sandwich which is delicious (but messy, be warned). Fries are amazing and I actively crave them. The seafood is always fantastic here, they know how to cook it perfectly. They always have a veggie bowl too and they are so huge and filling that I usually can't finish it. Mac and cheese is delicious but super heavy and rich. If you're there for brunch get the Bugs Bunny cocktail...the rum and carrot juice sounds weird but it is really delicious. The owner, Tommy, was easy to work with and extremely accommodating in the planning stages, and both owners and staff were delightful to everyone on the day of the shower. For that reason, it gets a 5. My one complaint is beer selection. Bars in the area seem to be offering Allagash, Montauk and Bells in all of line ups, like these companies are controlled by big brewing, or a certain distributor. Bars these days should really try to curate their beer lists, not just fall back to basic acceptable stuff. Astoria/LIC has great breweries that are not represented, much less others in NY or Northeast. At least there could be a few interesting cans, like Sanfords does. read more

I love quality food. This place has it. But I hate very small portions. This place has that too. My Eggs Ranchero was two tacos, one egg, and some veggies. Again, it tasted good. I had my engagement party at The Pomeroy for approx. 50 people last weekend and I can't say enough amazing things about it! From the very start, Tommy the owner was SO accommodating and provided us with incredible hospitality throughout the planning and party itself. We were able to close down the restaurant to the public for the day to host our brunch which was so much better than just being thrown in a back room somewhere. The food was AMAZING (which I already knew from eating dinner here several times before) and everyone was raving about it the entire time. In addition, the staff was so attentive and kind. Tommy also made his rounds throughout the day to make sure everyone was taken care of. I came here for dinner a couple nights ago and enjoyed a really great meal. I called ahead of time to inquire about vegan options, and was delighted to find that there were several. I ended up ordering the seasonal vegetable bowl (minus the egg) as my entree, which is the only properly vegan entree on an expansive food menu with a lot of other options. The dish came with quinoa, roasted beets, spaghetti squash, avocado, roasted sweet potatoes, and green beans. A few things stood out to me about this dish that are worth mentioning First, they were really generous with the avocado portion, which is rare! It was also super fresh. Most of the vegetables were seasoned well and delicious, although the green beans left a lot to be desired (they seemed a bit raw and bland). Lastly, the portion was pretty sizable. The dish didn't seem to come with a sauce to dress the vegetables, although my server kindly brought me a few options (an apple cider vinaigrette, and a balsamic one) upon request. I do still think a hearty fall dish like this would be even better with a thick sauce to drizzle over everything. In conclusion, $20-22 is a lot to pay for a bowl of vegetables, but this is a nice place with good ambiance so for a night out, it's well worth it. I also had a delicious cocktail (the blueberry basil lemonade), which I recommend! I'll definitely be back, either for drinks (happy hour seems great) or another meal. There was a party going on in the main dining area, but the bar, outside, and the few tables in the front were free for brunch. I was in the mood for chicken & waffles, so naturally we did got the chicken and waffles for two. Brunch also comes with a drink- mimosa, Bloody Mary, and thyme lemonade I believe. We got the thyme lemonade and it was SO good. When the food got to the table, I immediately wanted to dig in. The waffles were so soft and buttery. Probably some of the best waffles I've ever had. The friend chicken was sooo crispy and freshly fried. The chicken came with two sauces, some buttery tasting sauce and a green sauce, which was quite tasty. However, the chicken on its own was just amazing. I definitely would recommend coming here and trying this dish. The service was a bit slow, but the place seemed quite busy when we were there. Well nothing describes the food better than phenomenal! My partner and I were staying in Manhattan and were looking for somewhere great to eat! The Pomeroy seemed to be a hit on the internet so we decided to take the trip. BEST IDEA EVER! We can honestly say it was the best meal we had whilst staying in New York and well worth the short subway ride. The Fried Chicken was succulent crispy and simply delicious! The portion size is generous and it comes with two delicious sauces! The Mac and Cheese was to die for! (Being from England we had never had proper Mac and Cheese before, I now understand the hype!) The portion size is perfect and presented beautifully in a ceramic dish. It was simply delicious! We had a slice of carrot cake for dessert and we can honestly say it was the BEST slice of carrot cake we had ever eaten in our ENTIRE lives! It was soo moist and light and the frosting was heaven! DELICIOUS! Tommy was simply AMAZING! He gave us such a warm welcome and he could not do enough to ensure that our dining experience was wonderful. The decor is stunning and provides such a nice relaxed atmosphere to enjoy your meal. The music was great and not overbearing. Very trendy restaurant and all staff were friendly and accommodating. We had eyes bigger than our bellies and simply couldn't finish what we had ordered, so we asked for a takeaway box which was no problem at all. Well the hype is real.. Came for dinner and was blown away by the quality of the ingredients used.. We got the arancini rice balls and short rib tacos to start.. The short rib tacos were on the specials menu so not sure how long they will be sticking around, but I would recommend trying them.. Both were so tasty and did not make you feel like a blowfish.. Which was surprising since rice balls will usually do that to you.. As an entree I got the burger with the additional bacon and cheese.. They have three cheese options: american, gruyere and cheddar.. The burger was phenomenal.. So tender that my teeth had no clue they were cutting through meat.. Which means I have to wade through a pack of screeching trust fund scenesters to get to some delicious stuffed shells at Alba's. Astoria, I thought you had better taste than this. If a carpetbagger like O'Connor opened a restaurant in my hometown (Memphis) and charged $15 for mac n cheese, rest assured she'd be sent packing faster than two shakes of a trust fund wallet. I had the pomegranite martini and the perfect day? (I don't remember what the drink was actually called). Both just sweet enough but not over powering. The music is really great as well. Pomeroy has been on my list to try for what seems like an eternity now. Finally got here last night and overall was a pretty good experience. The drinks are well made and tasty (and def not weak). I had the seasonal veggie bowl and absolutely loved it. The veggies were all fresh and what is seemingly a simple dish they managed to spruce up. The jalapeño sauce they have is scrumptious, I could literally drink it. My friend got the burger and said it was pretty average. Admittedly, this isn't really a place to get a burger as there are much more interesting things on the menu. The fries were out of this world though. We had the carrot cake for dessert, just do it. You won't regret that slice of heaven. Service was great though not overbearing either. I'll be back. read more

They had a special brunch menu because it was Sunday. My friend ordered the burger. I ordered the chicken sandwich. We both had and Arnold Palmer cocktail made with vodka. The drinks were served almost immediately and we didn't wait more than 12 minutes for our food. The wait staff was polite and accommodating. My sandwich was good. The chicken was topped with a kind of hot pepper and onion salsa. The bun was almost brioche, but had caraway seeds in it. My friend said his burger was good. Both came with fries which were extra crispy and just about perfect. The drinks were refreshing and were exactly what we needed. Relatively new place in Astoria, with a not terrible wait on a Saturday night (30 minutes). The bar and wait staff are RIDICULOUSLY friendly and pleasant. Cocktails are fun, and interestingly portioned (smaller drinks, slightly cheaper than average, running about $10). Arancini Balls - probably the least impressive dish we ordered, by which I mean it's run of the mill. Needs salt and more mushroom flavor, perhaps a stronger stock to cook the rice in. Avocado Toast - quite excellent for out-of-season avocados. Perfect amount of seasoning and right amount of heat from the jalepenos. However, like SO MANY places in the city, portions are divided into three, not two. TWO or FOUR people, give FOUR pieces of toast! It would cost pennies extra, and no one is fighting over the last portion! They got this right with the arancini (6 pieces), I am not sure how they can rationalize 3 pieces of toast. Especially since there is no bread basket! Yes, bread baskets and odd-numbered portions are the NYC dining gaffe hill that I am willing to die on. I WILL DIE FOR MY PORTIONS AND MY CARBS. At least let me die from eating too many of them! Mac and Cheese - like all restaurant mac, needs salt. But the pasta was well-cooked, the cheese was cheesy (perhaps could have used a bit of a stronger cheese), and this is a perfectly acceptable Mac and Cheese. Fried Chicken - A very reasonable portion for the money, though no sides are involved (which is fine). The chicken has a flavorful if not particularly crispy crust, and the chicken is quite juicy. Not the city's best, or in the league of the city's best, but definitely one of the better fried chickens in Astoria, and something of a call-out to Astoria's last big opening which "specializes" in fried chicken (poorly) and rearranging the name of a facial hair style. Yeah, there was a lot of woohaa about the chef having been the personal chef for Lady Gaga and there was even more woohaa when Lady Gaga came to town for their grand opening. Since the bar was full we asked for a table and that was fine with them. We ordered our cocktails and drinks and the night started out alright. We tried everything from the Pom Martini, Yuzu Serrano Margarita, Astoria Park Paloma and I'm sure someone else had a beer and wine. All-in-all, the drinks were pretty good. And for the most part, any time we wanted to order another drink our server was there. But things were a little funky when we were deciding to order food or not. When we were looking at the prices of the food we were kind of miffed by it. If you've been here, then you know that the prices are well - a little more than what is usually found around Astoria and from the other reviews, it looks like the portions aren't really that big. So when we mentioned when we were not sure or not whether we were going to order food, our server somewhat rudely told us how he'd have to tell us to leave if that was the case. Now I understand if the place was packed and there were many people waiting for seats. But that wasn't the case. There were plenty of tables available. Literally maybe eight tables available. Anyways, we ended up staying a little more and ordered the mac and cheese and one of the cauliflower appetizers. They tasted fine. They didn't blow me out of the water. People mention the vibe and "yes yes yes yes" and all this. Like I mentioned earlier, the decor, vibe, design, etc. inside isn't unique. There are a ton of new places in Astoria that interior wise looks exactly the same or quite similar. I met a friend here for drinks last night. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails first while chatting. The cocktails that I had were good, with interesting ingredients (I never would have thought to put pineapple juice in a sidecar, but it was pretty tasty). After we finished our first drink each, we decided to get food, asked for the menus, and ordered another round of cocktails. Being newly-diagnosed with Celiac disease, and not really feeling a salad, I couldn't find that many gluten-free options on the menu. But I got the spaghetti squash, which was good, even if it didn't really taste like spaghetti like everyone says (not the chef's fault--I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part, because I really miss pasta). My friend got a burger and really enjoyed it. While we were sitting at the bar, we noticed a lot of families with young children being seated for dinner in the back. I wasn't aware that this place was kid-friendly, so I was a little dubious at first. I mean, it was dark inside, the bar was packed with young people in their 20s talking loudly, and the music was definitely not at a conversational level. As my friend and I were getting ready to leave, we saw a gentleman holding a very young--I'd say newborn--baby in a carrier. My friend remarked about it to me once we got outside. All she said was, "A baby?" But a woman who was going in as we were leaving overheard and immediately accosted us, using the foulest language imaginable. Turns out this was the child's mother. We didn't engage with her, instead turning in the opposite direction and walking away. This woman then proceeded to shout expletives at us until we were out of earshot. Now, as I said, I wasn't aware that this place was kid-friendly. It was my impression that it was a bar that serves food, and not a restaurant that serves drinks--and if you look at the business info up top, where it says "Good for kids" the response is "no." Whether I was mistaken in my impression or not, I definitely did not deserve to be called a "f****ing b****" by a complete stranger for something that I didn't even say. In sum: the cocktails were good, the food was all right, but the clientele was awful. If that woman is any indication of the type of person who frequents the Pomeroy, then I am never going back. read more

Holy Christ. This is amazing. I came here with 3 other friends and we had quite the oral-orgasmic experience. To start: The pomeroy old fashioned- if your an old fashioned fan, this is a MUST GET. Olives, "frickles", chicken wings and rice balls. My two guy friends LOVED the wings. All of us enjoy the olives, but hands down the winners were the frickles and the rice balls. (Still up for debate since they argue the wings were #1, but I'm writing this review not them!) Main courses: Braised short ribs, sea scallops, chicken milanese and skirt steak. I had the sea scallops- I'm obsessed. White girl cray cray over these sea scallops. The chicken milanese was very light, the steak and short ribs were so tender. Absolutely devine. If you're alone and have to choose one, I'd say the sea scallops. The desserts were okay- the one I had was the marscapone cheese with berries. Light and fluffy but I'm not a big dessert person, so don't take my word for it. I honestly think that they should give it complimentary since prices run a bit high. What I love the most about this place is that you can make this an intimate date spot or come here casual and dine on some crispy wings. read more
