We were greeted promptly and had a very reasonable 30 minute wait, considering we didn't have a reservation at the hight of tourist season and we didn't make reservations, I was thankful. Our server was efficient and food came out quickly. We ordered filets, they were cooked perfectly and topped with a sauce that was a little salty for my taste, next time I'll ask for it on the side. The main dining area is a little on the noisy side, but not unreasonable for a large open room. We had a good experience and will definitely be back. read more

We ate dinner here on a Thursday night. There was no wait. We got the steak sandwich egg rolls (appetizer) because of other yelp reviewers. They were excellent! Highly recommend them. I got the crab stuffed shrimp and it was delicious. Fish and chips was also good, although it could've been more lightly fried. Brussel sprouts appetizer was also very good. Seafood pasta was good with plenty of seafood, although the sauce could've been creamier. Service was a little slow. Prices were on the high side. Portions were generous. read more

Got the fish special. It was delicious. Small portion for the price but it was very good. Margarita was ok strong with a premade sour mix. Salt on rim didn't seem like the right type of salt. Lovely meal while visiting OBX! Highly recommend the Brussel sprouts appetizer - incredible. We were well taken care of by our server- Kim. For dinner husband had seafood medley with a delicious amber ale. I went for the vegetable Mac and cheese. Both were served piping hot and were delicious. I also admired the use of upside down boat / canoe as lighting. The owner was on site - which also speaks highly of ensuring everything ran smoothly. We ate here last week while on vacation for the 3rd time. We got there when it opened and even though we had a reservation there was no wait! --The cheesesteak egg rolls - 5 STARS! So good - the dipping sauce was great too! You have to order this app!! -Cornbread app - not as great as I remembered it being the last time, but still good. -Wings special - I think we had honey bbq - always good! -Fried Chicken - wasn't told there was an uncharge for fries instead of slaw but the entire meal was good! -Special Surf & Turf kabobs - 5 STARS on the taste - the chimchurri was so good but felt like it was a bit pricey ($38) for the amount of protein that came with it (4 shrimps and 3 pieces of steak) -Crabcake app - very good - nice flavor lots of crab -Filet - My daughter ordered this and again 5 STARTS! It was so delicious - the sauce and the potatoes and the cut of meat was great as well. I would order this again and again. We finished with the cheesesteak and the key lime pie - both delicious as well!! We decided to give The Pony and The Boat a try, based on the reviews. It was excellent. Service was great and so was the food. My wife had the house salad with a side steak and I couldn't believe the amount of steak they gave her. Cooked a perfect medium rare. I had the corn and crab chowder, which my wife helped me eat. It was a huge bowl of chowder and very tasty. I also had the Shrimp and Grits. They were great and the shrimp were cooked perfectly plus they were very big shrimp. The vegetables were awesome also. I had the special ... braised ribs which melted in your mouth perfect potatoes and broccoli. This is definetely a little more upscale and on the higher side pricewise.....it was worth every bite. Desert was a double chocolate brownie with sea salt caramel ice cream topped with whip cream..enough for two and we'll worth it. I will do it again soon! read more

We had a great dinner here and would definitely return. Pros/Highlights: the cheesesteak eggrolls were amazing and very flavorful. I had the shrimp and grits which was the best shrimp and grits entree I've ever had. It had big chunks of bacon in it. My husband had the ribs which were huge and meaty but just a little overcooked. For dessert we had the warm brownie which was very moist and decadent. The drinks were just ok. For drinks we tried an Old Fashioned, the Orange Yum Yum (like a doctored up orange crush), the Pony 75 (their spin on a french 75), and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was pretty lackluster and had a muted flavor. The martinis were also on the small side. The drinks were the only part of meal that were just ok and that could use some improvement. All the food was wonderful though. We would definitely return and recommend this restaurant to friends and family. read more

By far one of my favorite new restaurants I've discovered while going to the Outer Banks. Top notch food & flawless service. Our waitress was one of the best! I think one of the main dishes this place is known for is their chicken pot pie. I can definitely see why. It was one of the best I've had to date. Their cornbread is also like non-I've had before. This is an interesting spot with a lot of potential... To start, the front of house personnel are all excellent--prompt, friendly, and engaging. We were quickly sat (had a reservation) but the main dining room is VERY loud due to the open concept and high ceilings; the space is also not overly comfortable, this may be exacerbated by the feeling that you are just kind of sticking out at the tables that dot the open space with no discernible sense of "here's my table where I'm dining"--it just feels a bit disjointed. We started with drinks and the poutine appetizer. The old fashioned was decent and the poutine was incredible--creamy, gooey, exceptional pork belly and just the right amount of crisp on the fries. For the entree we did the filet and seafood medley. The filet was cooked to order and had a nice seasoning, the mashed potatoes were also exceptional. The medley was a disappointment, it was simply seafood doused in heavy butter--just a bit one note overall, especially for the price point. The sweet tea is classic south...it really is an art. For us, this restaurant could be next level with a few tweaks to the ambiance and seafood offerings. read more

This was my birthday dinner on the OBX - highly recommend! We couldn't go to our fave from the spring, Paper Canoe, due to being closed for the season; however, we found this one in a local magazine. We heard it's also owned by the folks who own Paper Canoe -- wouldn't be surprised! This place has been open for a little less than a year, but we'll definitely be coming back in May. We had a great booth seat, and the place was still decorated for Christmas (at the time). I got their Wedge Salad and the fried seafood combo with mashed potatoes and their Three Sisters veggie. My sister had a great seafood dish as well - beautiful presentation, and delicious! Check out our pictures! After grabbing two seats at the bar, we quickly were greeted by the bartender. The bar and restaurant was pretty full. I noticed they take reservations and that's a welcome sight! Many places don't. We started with craft cocktails : the drop of lemon and the orange yum yum. Both drinks are fruity forward but not overly sweet! They have a cocktail and beer of the day which is a fun way to choose something new. If cocktails are your thing, they have NC craft beer (can and draft) plus a good wine selection. The fried pickles are amazing! They are lightly fried and so yummy. Not overly spiced but great flavor and a good dipping sauce. For dinner, my friend and I split the vegetarian Mac and cheese. And oh my gosh. My friend said "this is one of those dishes I'll be thinking about for a long time!" So amazingly good! It's a big serving size so no problem for us two to split. I ended up here on a whim because the first two places I tried were packed. Did a quick Yelp search and found this little gem with great reviews so figured I would give it a try. We had a part of 8 and were seated right away! The dining area to the left is very spacious and open with high ceilings. The manager (or maybe he's the owner) was super nice and the waitress we had was amazing! She was constantly refilling drinks without us having to ask, very knowledgeable of the menu and had an overall positive, friendly attitude. The menu selection isn't huge or overwhelming like some other places. I had the cheesecake egg rolls which were amazing! I really didn't expect them to taste that good so it was a pleasant surprise. Selected this off of Yelp reviews on a whim. Excellent choice. Everything on the menu looked and sounded delicious so it was difficult to select. I opted for the filet mignon special & it did not disappoint. The other guests opted for their ribs and raved as well. Portion sizes are large -- come hungry! Service was excellent. The owner (or one of) welcomed us personally and was very appreciative of our patronage. It's a relatively smaller venue probably 25 tables and a large size bar. The dining area is nicely separated from the kitchen. Definitely recommend and would come back without hesitation. read more

The Pony and The Boat is a fantastic restaurant!! So glad my family decided to try this restaurant on a Friday night. It was hard to find a restaurant that would take reservations for a large party for dinner. The owner answered the phone and gave us an eta of 20-25 mins. It took a little extra time, but the owner was really nice and upfront with setting the expectations and talking to our family to buy the time! There are also a few benches in the waiting area that was a nice bonus. Parking: This restaurant is in a shopping center with other stores. It's a shared parking lot that had plenty of parking spaces on a Friday evening. The Pony and The Boat is a beautiful restaurant that lives up to its name. Literally a decorated Pony statue in the dining area!! The restaurant was clean and I liked that they had seating for ever party, including an outdoor patio to make this pet friendly. The decorations were elegant with beautiful hanging lights. It's hard to find a nice restaurant in the OBX that does not look divey or smells musky. Staff was professional and friendly! All servers were uniformed by wearing black and having there hair neatly pulled back. Our server was nice and quick with our big party. The only item I would have liked is if she cleared our empty plates from our appetizers to give us more table room when our entrees came out. Food: the food was amazing! I loved the dinner specials for the evening. Each item had a little twist that enticed you to order it. Appetizers: -Buffalo Cheetos Hot Wings (special item): these wings were delicious! It had a classic buffalo wing sauce with crushed up Cheetos that coated the exterior. The spice wasn't too spicy that you could still enjoy the wings. This came with ranch sauce and celery sticks on the side. -House Cornbread: this corn bread was delicious! This bread is not super sweet but still flavorful! It came with two thick squares that you can cut into fourths for sharing. Honey butter was on the side to spread over each piece. -Cast Iron Skillet Tater Tot Poutine: I loved the twist with tater tots and pork belly pieces in the gravy. It was a great balance of salty and savory. Cooking this in a cast iron took the appetizer to another level to keep this dish warm. -Crab Dip: the crab dip was amazing! It had good chucks of crab meat and came with a great portion of pita bread. Entrees: -Fried Seafood Platter Shrimp and Flounder Combo: the seafood was super fresh! Good portions of the fish and shrimp to make a filling meal. I liked that the batter for the seafood was not too thick, and the perfect coating to give you a crunch. The coleslaw and cornbread sides complimented this platter! This also came with remoulade and cocktail sauces. -Seafood Pasta: the seafood pasta was flavorful! I expected this to be more of a shrimp scampi garlic sauce however, this was more tomato based with a lot more liquid. This came with Bucatini noodles that were a little over cooked. What really made this dish was the amount of seafood that was in the pasta! They didn't short change the seafood that made this worth it. -Fried Chicken: I was a little skeptical ordering fried chicken at this restaurant, but the owner insisted that it was cooked in a pressure cooker and delicious. My boyfriend ordered this and it lived up to our standards. This is served with half of the bird including the breast and every part of the chicken had a flavorful exterior crispy coating, while the meat was moist and juicy on the inside. The classic southern sides of potato salad and coleslaw complimented this dish and made it filling! -Chicken Pot Pie: this dish came in a mini skillet with the chicken pot pie perfectly cooked! The outside of the pie dough was crispy and the inside was doughy. The chicken mixture on the inside was warm and seasoned well. We were able to also switch out the cucumber tomato salad for the twice baked potato for a slight up charge! -House Mac and Cheese: the Mac and Cheese came with Cavatappi pasta noodles and bacon. This was good but on the saltier side, especially with the bacon crumbles added to this. Overall, my family enjoyed the food and experience at The Pony and the Boat! This will not be the last time we visit this restaurant. I would say I'm a "semi-local" living in Norfolk and willing to make the 1.5 hr drive to have dinner here. I am very impressed with this place. Very clean on the inside, friendly service, food came out quickly and our meals tasted great. We opted to sit at the bar and our bar tender was super nice and friendly. We started with drinks and I had the Awww Yeah which was delicious and my boyfriend had the Old Hickory Ruby Lager. We got the crab dip to start and it was really good but definitely a plate you want to share. For our meals, my boyfriend enjoyed a medium rare prime rib which he said was delicious. I dined on the chicken pot pie which was fresh and cook perfectly: the cucumber salad that came with it was delicious as well. Atmosphere was great and we are glad we chose this place over the other places that are in the area. I gave them 5 stars because I know they're a notch above their competition. read more
