Well, they were cold... Pop Nation makes and sells popsicles and was doing so recently at the Stern Grove Festival. They were a fast alternative to the nearby food trucks but a substitute for nothing. Using natural ingredients, two of us had the Thai Tea and Salted Chocolate popsicles ($6 apiece) and neither of us had anything wonderful to say about either. What we both thought was that each was too mild in flavor to do anything more than satisfy a desire for something cold. If it takes unnatural ingredients to improve the taste I'd be all for it. The vendor was steering the folks ahead of me to the Pineapple popsicles. Perhaps you would enjoy a tastier experience with one of those. read more

All of the popsicle flavors sounded interesting: Orange vanilla cream, sea salted dark chocolate, watermelon mint, bourbon peach, coconut, and Bangkok night market. We decided on the bourbon peach (delicate peach flavor with a hint of bourbon) and Bangkok night market (coconut milk with ginger and turmeric). Both were refreshing and delicious. I'm a simple guy. There's really only a few things to know about me and one of them is that I'm ALWAYS in the mood for popsicles. I can't turn 'em down. Unless they're that awful double-wide/double stick kind because I don't care who you are, that's just too much girth for one mouth. Anyway, I found The Pop Nation at the Alameda Antiques Fair and you know I couldn't pass it up. My friends were really interested in making our way through the market but I demanded a pop break to give us the strength and energy to power through the day. They didn't have a ton of flavors in their little cart but they had a good a decent selection of basic and creative flavors that ensured something for everyone. I was between the spicy Bangkok Night Market and the Sea Salted Dark Chocolate, but ultimately went with the chocolate because sometimes ovulation calls the shots. It tasted like a less chemical-y Fudgesicle (my fave) and I guess that makes sense since The Pop Nation uses all natural ingredients. Rock Candy in Bernal Heights had three flavors: Watermelon mint, Apricot coconut & Kiwi, lime & ginger * Kiwi, lime & ginger popsicle ($3): A nice looking, large popsicle with lots of kiwi seeds. The popsicle was very firm and didn't melt quickly. It was super sour, even more so than lemonade. The sourness of the kiwi overwhelmed the other flavors. We hired Pop Nation to supply my children's birthday party with some tasty desserts. To save some money we chose to go with just a delivery of the pops instead of having a worker distribute it from a fancy cooler. Unfortunately, they weren't able to deliver to the actual site of the party due to schedule conflicts. Instead they delivered the cooler of pops to my residence and I just brought it to the site. We were given an option to pick 6 flavors. I probably should've went with 4. The guests enjoyed the dark chocolate and strawberries n creme. Creamy ube was a little disappointing. It's been quite a few years since I first learned of Pop Nation's popsicles, but I've never forgotten them. When you have a guest list that includes people with serious food allergies, popsicles are definitely the way to go, and flavors like watermelon mint and sea salted dark chocolate are an easy way to elevate the experience. It was a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon and after I spotted 2 separate bright colored rainbow umbrellas I had to finally stop and check out Pop Nation. With only a few selections to choose from I opted for the most natural choice of Strawberry Lemonade. The popsicle was rather hearty, made with real substance of vegan and gluten free ingredients. The Chocolate Sea Salt sounded like a close second but it was a bit too warm for something so rich and creamy sounding. The 'sicle held together nicely and had all of the flavors of a winner. We were browsing stalls at the Mission Community Market when multiple adults *wooshed* passed us just a-licking & a-suckin' on pastel-colored popsicles. I mean, they really looked like they were enjoying these pops. I thought, where did they get those from & how do I get my greedy little hands on one?! I spotted the rainbow umbrella & blue & white push cart. Strawberry Lemonade sounded refreshing, but predictable. Bangkok Nights (coconut milk, lemongrass, ginger) got me all hot & bothered, but did very little for the person I'd be sharing with. We decided on Sea Salted Dark Chocolate ($3.) Super creamy & rich (despite being vegan & gluten free) & had that salty background flavor that goes well with sweets like chocolate. If only The Pop Nation existed when I was a kid. As a young child, my mother told me a white lie about the ice cream truck (having left out the minor detail that it was an ice cream truck) and planted the seed in my mind that it was a horrible thing I needed to stay away from. It wasn't until my pre-teen years, that I actually figured out what it really was. The main reasons my mother didn't allow me to have anything from the ice cream truck was that most of the items contained tons of artificial ingredients and there was no way to determine how fresh the products were. Now, as an adult, I thank my mom for being a good parent. With The Pop Nation, parents no longer have to worry about their children eating unhealthy cold treats and can rest assure that their popsicles are 100% natural. Not only are the popsicles made with wholesome ingredients, but the flavors are sophisticated and tasty. Their sign advertises that the pops are all gluten free and vegan. You wouldn't normally find wheat in a popsicle, but I guess it just gives people piece of mind in case you weren't sure. The Pop Nation was hired to visit our workplace. It was a very hot day, so it was a great summertime treat to break up the monotony of another day in the office. The Pop Nation truck was parked outside but they brought out their posicle cart and a few coolers on the sidewalk. They brought 5 flavors with them. I asked the rep if they make their own flavors and he confirmed that they do. Watermelon mint seemed to be the most appealing flavor to me, so it was an easy decision. I was not disappointed. Ran into Pop Nation on Valencia and was intrigued by their flavors. When I asked about them, the guy running the cart didn't really have any good advice and just said all of them were good. No, duh. Anyway I settled on the salted dark chocolate which was like a fudgcicle made with extra love and care. It was creamy (which made me wonder if the vegan and dairy free signs on the cart applied to all their popcicles or just a subset) and it was very chocolatey. Pop-licious. Was awesome to run into the Pop Nation cart not once, but TWICE this weekend in the Mission. And on a perfect summer (go with me. it's SF - October is summer) day both times. I tried the cucumber/lime/ginger and strawberry/rosemary pops and both were super delicious. The cucumber was refreshing with just the right amount of ginger so it wasn't overwhelming. The strawberry was perfect - a little creamier than the first one and with fresh strawberry chunks! For those who are wondering, we paid $3 for a professionally made, gourmet popsicle... and I can't wait to try the new fall flavors and to see these fun carts around the neighborhood more often. YUM! my popsicle was amazing. it was so good it was like it wasn't even a popsicle. it was more like an EXPERIENCE. it was this surprising unique adventure of taste discovery. it was an odyssey of flavor. (i just made that up myself.) i had the thai coconut pop. it was made with coconut milk and some exotic spices. but the spices weren't too crazy. they blended with the coconut milk to make it refreshing and sublime. it was so good that after i sat down and gave my ice cream my full attention, i realized i had to get back up, walk back over to the cart and get their card JUST so i could write this review. pop nation deserves recognition. and all you folks who said good things about them but didn't give them all the stars, you're CRAZY. I'm confident that there are few things better on an 80+ degree day in the Mission than a popsicle. And the ones that The Pop Nation are serving up may just be the best around! Friendly service, professionally prepared and packaged pops and super unique flavors set these pops apart. I tried the kiwi lime ginger and the strawberry rosemary. The kiwi/lime/ginger flavors were all really well balanced, with just the right amount of sweet and tart. The strawberry was loaded with fresh strawberry chunks and the rosemary was enough that it made it special but not so much that you felt like you were eating lamb stew (that's what I think of when I think of rosemary, is that weird?). And I thought the texture of these pops was great-- they're not gritty/icy at all. At a mere $3 a pop (pun very much intended), you'll probably want to buy all the flavors they have and save them for later (or enjoy them on their way to the freezer). Looking forward to new fall flavors, which we heard are debuting soon! read more

If you see this cart or booth at one of your local street festivals, it's worth stopping for one of their mouth-watering popsicles. Ambiance: I've seen them at Dolores Park once; just a dude and cart with an attached umbrella hanging out and enjoying music. I've also seen them with a booth setup at the recent Chipotle festival in Golden Gate Park. Their website has a list of upcoming locations. Service: Friendly and always willing to answer questions about ingredients. Food (gluten-free dairy-free perspective): I've only had the Bangkok Nights pop so far (coconut milk, lemongrass, ginger), mostly because it's so damn good. Love these pops! My unfortunate intolerance to dairy often leaves me dessertless and heartbroken so I was so psyched to find these guys make vegan pops! The best part, you can't really tell their dairy free, so it makes me feel like I'm one of the rest of you, freely mowing on creamy deliciousness. The flavors are like no other pops I've had as a child or adult alike, and honestly, they are the best I've had. I've tried a number of the flavors. My favorite is the Spicy Bangkok Night Market (mostly like saying the name)-- how unique and clever to make a creamy curry inspired pop. The Mango Coconut is a close second and Cranberry Almond, which I thought to be an unlikely front runner for me personally, is next in line with an amazingly interesting flavor combo. The other herb-y pops are great and refreshing too like the Cilantro Lime and Kiwi Lime Ginger. Reading the other reviews, I can't wait to try the Salted Chocolate! Can it really be dairy free?!
