I'm a giggly drunk. But I also realized that I get more ghetto as the alcohol-filled night goes on. Words like foo, what's crackin, yo, hyphy, shizzle does not belong in a classy girl's everyday vocabulary. But then again, I don't get tipsy every single day. The only thing that would shut me up and bring me back to my original self is a dose of greasy goodness. With ketchup, mayo, mustard and grilled onions topping it off. It's also on the Big Eat SF list: #92 Bacon wrapped hotdog from a cart in the Mission (preferably when you're drunk) 5 freakin stars HELLA GOOD FOO! BTW, posing with the hotdog man with a cheesy ass smile and a corny peace sign is NOT ghetto. It's ghetto fabulous.

    The telltale sign.

There are a few around but this cart is the best of them IMO. It always has people hovering around. One can easily and quickly pre-coat their stomach before going to Mission dive bars! Of course, post-drinking is where it's at - though it's also good for sober eating. I had it two nights in a row once, yep. This cart is parked right in front of a US Bank. Two guys usually man the cart, operating out of a van. Can't really miss the van, but the aroma will also lead you to it.

NOTE: I ate this famous hot dog in a sober state. Noticing this cart at the top of Best of Yelp for a few weeks (spring 2007), I collected the clues from all the reviews so that one day, I could track it down. One night, coming back from our friend's place around 1 AM, we decided to drive around SOMA looking for this guy. WHAT IS THIS THING? A street vender selling bacon wrapped hot dogs on a cart in the middle of the night. WHERE? I found him at the Corner of Folsom and 6th at 1 AM. However, based on other reviews, he could be anywhere near a club. HOW MANY CARTS? Unknown. Comparing the picture I took with the one posted by Eric W., there seems to be more than one cart. The two pictures show that the cart and the guy are clearly different, yet they must coordinate their business, seeing that they use the same brand of aluminum foil, cook the bacon hot dog in the same way, and have the exactly same condiments (grilled onions, mayo, pepper, ketchup, and mustard). I wanted to ask him more questions, but his English was poor and my Spanish is worse. PRICE: $3 per dog. ANY GOOD? Well, rationally speaking, NO, it is cheap standard hot dog with bacon. Only unique part is the wrapped bacon, but it was high fat bacon that only increased fat content. Buns are standard cheap kind you buy at Safeway. No gourmet stuff here. BEST IN THE CITY? Again, NO. During normal business hours, you could get far better hot dogs at various places around the city. SO WHY A GOOD RATING? This is what is so COOL about Yelp. Zagat would never give a Hot Dog Cart a high rating. Look, where else would you go at 2 AM for some hot dogs? Seven-Eleven? The cart guy is providing the right product at the right time at the right place; therefore providing a FIVE STAR service. I have no idea if he has proper vender license or if he reports his revenue, but he is obviously a hard working guy who I want to support.

Now who doesn't love the Bacon Wrapped hot dog guy? One memorable moment I can remember was one night, after the club we went searching for him @ 2am hahah we were starving and wanted to sober up. Great way huh? We never found him, but I do recall seeing the cart a couple of times in different areas in SF. Just the scent suckers you in and you can't say no! I know a couple of people have experienced this scenario: drunk or hungry right after the bars/clubs and your tummy is rumbling, and you happen to see the hot dog guy out front, what do you do??? Stand in line and get some!!!!!!!! LOL Last weekend my gf hired one of the Bacon dog carts for her wedding after wards, so people can sober up! Everyone was so happy!! ain't life great? LOL

Pros: Delicious after a night of drinking!! Different condiments to add, as well as a whole jalapeño! Kudos to the hotdog man standing even on the cold nights of San Francisco!! Cons: Cash only (price $4 each), might be different vendors so you'll have to find him/them! Found him on the corner of 22nd and Mission street!

    had 2 tonight. mmmmm

Ever been gay clubbing and all of a sudden you get a hankering for some tube steaks in your mouth? This one late-night vendor got the formula right: grill up some meat on a portable grill.... let the smell waft towards the drunk club-goers who are itching to put something meaty and salty in their mouths....in the very literal sense--- Twice I've encountered this magnificent phenomena: the first, while clubbing at Badlands in the Castro... and the second, while clubbing at Dragon at Eight... I lurrrve this hot dog stand. The vendor is cool too, while his wife/mistress/girlfriend/pimp supervises behind him, as she sits in their van. The vendor's cart does not lie.... the hot dogs are "Delicious All Meat"... and it gets better..... they are wrapped in scrumptious, crispy BACON.... but wait... it gets better.... they are topped with grilled onions... WAIT... it GETS BETTER... a skinny stream of MAYONNAISE and ketchup are squirted on top. (DROOOoOOOOoooOL) oooh I encountered the BDC for a third time: last night, on a post-GH2-induced hunger bacon-wrapped hotdog orgy on 16th Street (about 15 feet from the Roxie Cinema)..... Since they are 9-to-10-inches-long hotdogs, they are longer than the bun.... you get more meat for your money. Just the perfect meal to soak up all the alcohol you've ingested for the evening.

Operated out of a van in front of a bank. Located on Mission between 23RD & 24TH. Also another cart down the block between 22ND & 23RD. This was our 3RD food stop on a night of unplanned gluttony. When I saw the cook spread the hot dog bun, rubbed and grilled it in bacon fat, Oh i think my heart skipped a beat. Just $3 each. Grilled hot dog wrapped in bacon, accompanied with sweet grilled onions & peppers, and your choice of jalapeño, mustard, ketchup, and mayo. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/89lcibUju_4PqUrZ10w71w?select=YQQ4hxZZ232x_Up8DJIuxg Pure genius! Why didn't I know about this sooner?

Beginning of the night: Let us proceed to Luna Park for a classy meal, complete with 9 course prix fixe, and no less than 2 bottles of imported wine preferably from France and South Africa. Apres dinner: Dancing in the Mission should help eradicate some of those extra calories consumed. After 2am: DUDE, I'm SO trashed!! LET'S GET ONE OF THEM BACON DOGS! WHAT ARE THEY CALLED?! DANGER DOGS! GIMME LIKE 8 OF THEM! Tomorrow: Accident. In pantalons. Sucks.

This review goes out to all my Bacon Cart peeps! Shout outs!... Thanks to the girl who kicks my craving on the corner of 23rd & mission at 3pm on any given day! To that guy who sold us the bacon dog right after we stuffed ourselves silly at Bissap Baobob, gracias!! Estoy llena! Bacon Dogs are the best thing ever! Especially at 2am =)

    The Cart [Late Night, 04/02/10]

We were driving back from the (awesome) Bill Maher show in Santa Rosa... and with all the boy's talk of pot-bellied pigs as a potential pet and his incessant ranting and raving about how cute/smart/fun they were, I was lured to the Bacon Dog Cart. The thought of eating pork wrapped in pork brought an irresistible craving. (Don't judge...) We drove around searching for the cart for about 10 minutes before finally spotting it in that one corner of Mission and 23rd street, right by the home of the heart-attack-inducing Tortas Cubanas. When we finally spotted it, my heart skipped a beat. (If you have trouble finding the cart, forget the fact that he's right on Mission St between 23rd & 24th next to "That's It" - just look for the bright white light emanating from the cart that gets more brilliant the longer you stare.) Being the ladylike person that I am, I took exactly 2 seconds longer than the boy to scarf down my bacon dog. And then, seconds. That's how good it was. I asked my husband afterwards whether or not he was ready to stop eating pork at the cost of keeping a pig as a pet. His response was, "No! But I'll tell Corky pig stories before bed, walk him around the neighborhood, and teach him tricks." "What tricks?" I replied. "Sit, stay, roll over, and play bacon. They're really smart. You should watch that video on YouTube." Nice.

How can something so wrong, be oh so right? The smell of bacon wrapped goodness wafted through the air, making its way into Dalva, dragging a large group of us out to see where it was coming from. BACON DOG CART!!!! "Do these guys know who we are?" I asked the group surrounding me. "Do they know what we have done for them? Seriously? Do they know who we are?" Then I did what i had never done before, the jew bought a bought a dog from the cart, and literally inhaled it in 2 seconds flat. This experience alone justifies my 5 star review, and I'm pleased to be able to help the most popular restaurant on Yelp. Oh, glorious bacon wrapped weiner....till we meet again.

The menu is a greatest-hits tour of German comfort food. The deviled eggs are a must to start your meal and the wienerschnitzel is my personal go‑to as it is crispy, moist, and so flavorful every time I've had it. The jägerschnitzel is another standout if you are feeling something a little lighter and saucier as it rich and savory in all the right ways, and the sausages are always banging and perfect alongside a big stein of beer. It's the kind of food that feels made for long conversations and slow sipping. What really elevates Suppenküche, though, is the people. The staff are super friendly and clearly know their stuff, always ready with a beer recommendation or a menu suggestion and the patrons tend to match that vibe; if you end up at the bar or sharing a table, which is pretty common if you come with a small group, you're likely to find yourself chatting with someone new before long. There's honestly no better way to make new friends in SF than bonding over schnitzel and a great German beer at Suppenküche.

There's a few extra options to add as toppings: extra cheese, extra meat, peppers, avocado, mushrooms, etc. as well as burgers, hot dogs and a good range of sides. I decided to try the Boca burger cheesesteak sandwich while my partner got the turkey. The first thing we noticed was how amazingly soft the bread was, a big difference compared to other cheesesteak restaurants. The sandwiches also aren't huge and overfilled.... which surprisingly is what we prefer! We were able to eat everything and didn't feel like we had taken a bomb to our stomachs, which usually happens after a big cheese filled sandwich. On top of that, the sandwiches were delicious. The grilled onions were good and the cheese melted well and got into all the bits of the sandwich and meat fillings. Our food came out piping hot but not so bad that we had to wait too long before we could eat. The shop is small but there's indoor and outdoor seating and it's close to a few parks and bars that will let you bring in food. Service was quick and the workers were nice and friendly. Definitely a great replacement for the cheesesteak shops we've been losing lately, we're definitely returning!
