I wanted to love The Porch Mansfield since it's close to home. The service was nice and attentive, and the portions were huge. I ordered pork chops with eggs, grits, and pancakes. The pancakes were lovely and the eggs were fine, but the grits were very clumpy. The pork chops were tender and lightly seasoned, but overall just okay. Unfortunately, halfway through the second pork chop I realized it wasn't fully cooked. I stopped eating immediately, but still ended up getting very sick and my stomach is still hurting a day later. Our group of 3 had lunch at The Porch at the MANSFIELD location today, the reviews we read were positive so we thought "let's try it". Walking in the door, there were two tables, we were the third. The woman at the desk, unfriendly greeting, told us to sit whoever we wanted. Our server came out pretty quickly, she was polite and friendly. Took our drink order, brought our drinks, a few minutes later took our order. Waited almost 30 minutes for a burger, a porch club, side of mashed potatoes, and a bacon grilled cheese. Food was descent but no where near worth $67, (without tip) $4.50 for a soda, $5.00 for a small side of mashed potatoes. During our time of waiting, there was a family of 3 who came in, and right behind them came in a table of two. They sat down right across from the table of 3 who had walked in moments before. The table of two was attended to first, no worries as there was no hostess to alert the server. For whatever reason, the table of three was never greeted by a server and after 15 minutes of sitting there, they got up and left. After that, two different sets of customers came in the door, again, no one up front to greet them. Maybe that's a good thing, as our greeting was less than fair. The first couple to walk in, walked out after standing there 5 minutes, the other couple, a man and his young daughter sat down on the bench. Unfriendly front girl never came back out, server was the only other person we saw and when she came out she didn't acknowledge the people sitting on the bench so they got up and left. Working in the food industry is hard work, and even harder if it's your business. With that in mind, the high priced food aside, there needs to be excellent service from start to finish. It's in a shopping center and was easy to find. The restaurant itself was a decent size. Not to big or to small. It wasn't a lot of people when we got there so it was quiet. Well I tried to have lunch here with my mom but wee ended up leaving and going next door to Hideout Burgers. We wanted to try a new place so I chose this off of yelp. But when we walk in I thought we walked into an India style restaurant with curry dishes because we were seated by a nice Indian man and it smelled like curry really bad , not the good kInd but the kind that makes you sick to your stomach. I chose The Porch as a restaurant to try while in Texas based off the reviews. They had fairly good reviews & I had heard it was good. It was definitely down home cowboy country style. The fried okra was amazing!! I had the avocado veggie burger, it was pretty good but more guacamole VS avocado. The Buffalo chicken ranch wrap had great flavor but excessive sauce which made it soggy. Fries were good! One of our friends loved the liver & onion dish. He said the gravy was delicious. The bacon cheeseburger was also a favorite with our group, as well as the Porch burger which was ridiculous in side but really yummy. The Porch French toast was cooked great & the waitress was able to cook the bacon a little more for us. The fried catfish was good, great flavor & wasn't over seasoned. They brought a Mac & cheese out for us to try for one of our sides but it wasn't cheesy & tasted more milky. I remember a time when it was full of pies, and you had to wait outside until a table opened up. I will give it to the wait staff, they are very friendly, almost too friendly. But that's all I can say that was good. I laughed out loud when I saw the ham steak. Nothing had any flavor. Could not tell if I was chewing on a bite of bacon or eggs. Coffee was hot, very strong, and old tasting. The home fries, or should I say cubed French fries were plain nasty and over seasoned. The porch is a really interesting place. Clearly, it's a breakfast and lunch destination that happens to stay open for dinner and serve their breakfast menu all day. Gone two times... both for dinner. The dinner is OK. I am always intrigued looking at the nanny amazing breakfast items, and I can never bring myself to order one of them because I always have my heart set on their chicken fried bacon. Let me tell you about chicken fried bacon... If you are a bacon lover like myself, this must be the reason pigs were created. There can be no other explanation. They take full strips of bacon and dip it in chicken batter. Then they fry it nice and crispy. All that is missing is some cream gravy in which to dip it. Ask and ye shall receive. On our last visit I tried the chicken fried chicken, and my companion had the chicken fried steak (notice a trend?). I have to say back the chicken fried steak was exponentially better. The chicken appeared to have been pounded out then, almost like a scallopini. It was slightly tough. Overall, the dinner menu is not inspiring but rather pedestrian. What it offers is a lot of stuff that's just not seen in cool joints like this such as liver & onions. The desserts that are in the case near the entrance really make me want to save room... Though I have not succeeded. The breakfast menu has a lot lot lot of imaginative items on it, so give that a looksee. Remember, they serve the breakfast menu all day. read more
