I hadn't eaten at The Porch in a few years but did remember their blueberry cake French toast was really good. However, unfortunately that is no longer the case. Let's start with the good, we were seated immediately and our server was amazing and very nice. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and I ordered the blueberry cake French toast that came with bacon and I added hash browns. My husband said his chicken fried steak was too thick which made it very tough and it lacked seasoning. Also, his pancakes were overly doughy. My French toast was plain awful! They were old tasting and stale... the same with the hash browns. I'm sure they both were reheated which made them inedible. The only thing that was decent was the bacon so I filled up on that...thank goodness they gave plenty. The picture I included was taken when we were leaving so you can see the meal was barely eaten. I wanted to love The Porch Mansfield since it's close to home. The service was nice and attentive, and the portions were huge. I ordered pork chops with eggs, grits, and pancakes. The pancakes were lovely and the eggs were fine, but the grits were very clumpy. The pork chops were tender and lightly seasoned, but overall just okay. Unfortunately, halfway through the second pork chop I realized it wasn't fully cooked. I stopped eating immediately, but still ended up getting very sick and my stomach is still hurting a day later. While the service was good, undercooked pork is a serious issue and made this a very disappointing experience. read more

Our group of 3 had lunch at The Porch at the MANSFIELD location today, the reviews we read were positive so we thought "let's try it". Walking in the door, there were two tables, we were the third. The woman at the desk, unfriendly greeting, told us to sit whoever we wanted. Our server came out pretty quickly, she was polite and friendly. Took our drink order, brought our drinks, a few minutes later took our order. Waited almost 30 minutes for a burger, a porch club, side of mashed potatoes, and a bacon grilled cheese. Food was descent but no where near worth $67, (without tip) $4.50 for a soda, $5.00 for a small side of mashed potatoes. During our time of waiting, there was a family of 3 who came in, and right behind them came in a table of two. They sat down right across from the table of 3 who had walked in moments before. The table of two was attended to first, no worries as there was no hostess to alert the server. For whatever reason, the table of three was never greeted by a server and after 15 minutes of sitting there, they got up and left. After that, two different sets of customers came in the door, again, no one up front to greet them. Maybe that's a good thing, as our greeting was less than fair. The first couple to walk in, walked out after standing there 5 minutes, the other couple, a man and his young daughter sat down on the bench. Unfriendly front girl never came back out, server was the only other person we saw and when she came out she didn't acknowledge the people sitting on the bench so they got up and left. Working in the food industry is hard work, and even harder if it's your business. With that in mind, the high priced food aside, there needs to be excellent service from start to finish. I know our family will not be back, and I can guarantee the other 3 families won't either, nor will anyone else who they tell about their experience. read more

I was really impressed with the porch. I met a friend for brunch and wanted to meet at a spot that wasn't far for either of us. This place had good reviews. It's in a shopping center and was easy to find. The restaurant itself was a decent size. Not to big or to small. It wasn't a lot of people when we got there so it was quiet. Our waitress was really good and fast with a bubbly personality. No complaints there. I love pancakes so that's what I got with a side of bacon. I had 2 eggs over easy with sausage patties and home fries plus rye bread. I love to put butter on my toast most places put so little on it's like "find the butter" not here (see my photos). Wife had the 3 egg Denver omelette. All the normal toppings are on the top of the cooked eggs. A bit different (normally they are added to the omelette- folded and served. I chose The Porch as a restaurant to try while in Texas based off the reviews. They had fairly good reviews & I had heard it was good. It was definitely down home cowboy country style. The fried okra was amazing!! I had the avocado veggie burger, it was pretty good but more guacamole VS avocado. The Buffalo chicken ranch wrap had great flavor but excessive sauce which made it soggy. Fries were good! One of our friends loved the liver & onion dish. He said the gravy was delicious. The bacon cheeseburger was also a favorite with our group, as well as the Porch burger which was ridiculous in side but really yummy. The Porch French toast was cooked great & the waitress was able to cook the bacon a little more for us. The fried catfish was good, great flavor & wasn't over seasoned. They brought a Mac & cheese out for us to try for one of our sides but it wasn't cheesy & tasted more milky. The waitress came quickly to take my order. I ordered egg white create your own omelet with cheese, ham, onion and green peppers. It came with two sides and I chose home fries (potato cubes) and wheat toast. The food came out hot and fresh. Omelet was ok and home fries were crispy as I requested. We went here for lunch last week & the customer service was spot on. Greeted at the door & seated promptly. The waitress was fast & attentive, she checked in regularly but wasn't over bearing. Both my friend & I had the fried catfish lunch special. Great price with just the right amount of food. The catfish was perfect & not over fried, delicious green beans (had a kick to them, excellent!), good hush puppies, & the mac and cheese is the kind you grew up with. On point.
