Jay Jays was a pleasant place to find a meal at affordable prices. Our waitress was really nice and made good recommendations on what to get. We ordered the cheese fries to start with their homemade ranch. They were tasty and filling, but be advised they are made with processed cheese slices and bacon. I had the pecan chicken and a dinner salad that counted for my 2 sides. The chicken was thin and so tender I could cut it with my fork. I would recommend it. The chicken fried steak looked and tasted like it was heated from a pre made frozen variety. We did not try the pies but they looked delicious. Breakfast time and Jay Jay Cafe has been our go to place for many years. The service here is very good and friendly. Coffee refills keep coming. Breakfast is made to order always hot and fresh. On the menu I like the waffle the best. The pancakes can be thick, but my husband gets them and really likes them. The eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon is very good. I had the biscuit with gravy last time instead of toast and the biscuit was tasty. They also have omelets, but I have not tried one of them. Coffee is very good I seem to drink more coffee at diners. Jay Jay's was right where we were, and we hadn't dined with them for quite a while. So Jay Jay's it was. The cafe wasn't too busy when we arrived. The interior was warm and inviting. After looking over the menu, and enjoying a cup of Jay Jay's awesome coffee, we placed our order. My wife LOVES LOVES LOVES French Toast. She ordered the al a cart French Toast with no meat on the side. I ordered the Combination #4 with two eggs over easy, sausage patties, hashbrowns, and a biscuit covered with sausage gravy. Oh my, our tummies were going to be in heaven soon. After a short wait and time to gulp down more coffee, our breakfast entrees arrived. And wow were they good, no great! Food was really good, I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken strips were juicy and seemed to be hand battered they had a really nice crispy layer. The waffle was Texas shaped and had a nice crisp to it as well and tasted really yummy. Service was great! My server was very attentive. I went on a Sunday around lunch time so it was kinda busy but the noise didn't become unbearable. I frequent this place often for breakfast. Friendly customer service and everything tastes home made. The soups are really good! My favorite dishes are the chicken and rice (served Mondays) and chicken and dumpling (served Wednesday). I usually get the soups or the chicken fried steak or chicken friend chicken breakfast! Just get the gravy on the side if getting it to go, otherwise it'll be soggy. The home fries are so good! Management is always so nice and if the order is wrong, the immediately make it right! We went after 1 pm on a Saturday and while somewhat busy, we didn't have to wait on a table. We were greeted at the door and our server was prompt in greeting us. We both had breakfast items: I had the Classic Combo (eggs, bacon, home fries, and a pancake); my wife had the ABC Omelet (bacon, cheese, onion, mushrooms, topped with avocado). For the most part everything was pretty good. My eggs were a bit cold though and the bacon seemed a little thin cut). The "home fries" were good and had green peppers and onions. The coffee was just so-so. The service was very good, prompt and you could sense the staff were happy in their work. Our waitress was very attentive. The atmosphere needs updating, but it appeared clean and organized. As other reviews I read stated, it's a homey, comfort food, neighborhood kind of spot where regulars and wait staff know each other by name. I very rarely leave reviews. This experience was all around bad. I used to come here pre covid and it was great. Our server was present he sat my wife my daughter, my mother in law and myself and put menus down no greeting we said thank you and asked how are you doing? To which he replied good. It's customary in this line of work to possibly say something like good how are you or thanks for asking. Really rubbed me the wrong way but everyone has off days. Came back asked if we needed more time with the menus and brought our drinks. We did need more time as the drinks were fast. He seemed kind of bothered by it and gave us more time. We ordered and my mother in law ordered her dish with home fries which traditionally come with onions and peppers she asked can i add grilled onions to it to which he stated it comes with it..... she knew that she was asking in addition. Basically guy was not very polite. Order came out messed up and the food was terrible. Two dishes supposed to have whipped cream did not and had to ask three times to get a sufficient amount and the bacon was as if it were pre packaged it didn't taste real. He was irritated by that. My chicken fried steak was the only real edible thing. I told the cashier the food was trash and the service was also awful she apologized and then I told her we would bit be back she said Ok. We were one of three tables this was not busy at all. They just don't care and the food quality was absolutely awful. We were going to get two pies bc we used ti love the pies but we thought it best not to chance it. Im just very disappointed and as someone who used to be a server I could never imagine barely giving a crap. Being put off that you have to wait tables? Sausage and scrambled eggs tasted as expected. Pancake was good. Cons: price. With tip, short stack combo ($9.49) and coffee will set me back $15.51. Nearly $16 for breakfast. There were no senior portions on the menu. Everything was in "twos". 2 pancakes, 2 sausage, etc. for reference, Old West has portions of various sizes, which saves me considerably. For those of you who say take the extra portion home--I usually do, but it sits in fridge a week before I finally toss it. Will I go back? Probably not. read more

Two weeks ago we had lunch. The food was great, but the young lady who served us was amazing. Yesterday we went back for breakfast. I asked to server to hold my pancake until I was ready for it. When the food arrived, my pancake was the first thing he was about to give me with two syrups and three butters. My wife told him, remember you were going to hold that until he was ready. So he took it back. He gave me the rest of my order and told my wife hers will be out shortly. I had over half my food eaten before hers was ready. Mind you, only one other person was eating. The dessert looks tasty in the case right when u walk in. Once arrived we were seated quick and drink orders were taken. The waiter was pleasant when taking our order however he forgot to ask or bring the muffins or rolls ( a regular reminded that he forgot). I had the Eggs and ham steak and substitute a pancake for toast. Another person substitute a pancake for her toast as well. Everything was brought out in a decent amount of time. My family and I have been eating at Jay Jay Café since day one at all of their locations... Fielder Road... Bowen Road... In Green Oaks. The owner and manager at the one at Green Oaks today wanted to argue with me about my eggs in my food not being cold... Again keep in mind we've been eating here for years and recently only one this manager is on duty and the owner we have problems with the food being cold... 3 to 4 weeks ago my brother and sister-in-law were with my wife and I and all of our food was cold and this guy had an attitude about it other people around us complained about the food being cold or certain items or dishes being cold. Today I was taking my mom there to eat like we normally do every week and my eggs in my chicken fried steak was lukewarm but the eggs were literally ice cold almost like out of the refrigerator... Our waiter asked us if everything was OK I asked if I could have my eggs remade she said no problem... Then the manager owner comes over and says this and I repeat... " what's the problem here? Real loud so everyone can hear... When I saw you come in I made your food because you always say it's cold... Your food was not cold I made it. I have tolerated this guys rudeness for months... Because my 75-year-old mother likes their waffles when they're hot because sometimes I will warn you they won't be. It's very sad I don't see this business going to make it in the future if this guy is an owner manager. The new chipotle location that open next-door to them should've just leased out their space as well.
