My friend and I ordered two simple canned drinks a Corona and a Suncruiser and were told the total was $13. I handed the bartender exactly $13 in cash and even counted it in front of her. When I asked, "Are we good?" she told me, "No, it's not good." Confused, I asked if I had given her the correct amount, and she confirmed that I had, but again said it "wasn't good." When I asked what the problem was, she responded, "You've never worked in the service industry before, have you?" The clear implication was that she was upset I had not immediately given her a tip. I found the entire interaction incredibly rude, condescending, and unprofessional. A tip is optional and should never be demanded or used as a reason to belittle a customer especially when all the bartender did was hand us two canned drinks. I have worked in customer facing jobs (bartending, serving etc.), and I would never speak to someone this way. I also want to emphasize that this has not been my experience with the other bartenders at Pine Street, who have always been kind and welcoming. I did bring the interaction to a manager's attention because this kind of behavior reflects poorly on an establishment that I otherwise really enjoy going to. I hope management addresses it.

We arrived just minutes after 5pm on a Thursday, with only one group ahead of us -- about a 5-minute wait before we were ushered in. They do check IDs, so bring one, or find somewhere else to drink. After the secret knock and moving a book in the entryway library, the door opens into a 1920s-style bar: heavy, dark wood, and very limited seating, with just 8 seats at the bar and two larger seating areas for groups. I believe our bartender's name was Matt -- the last of the original employees since Eleven Twenty-Two opened eight years ago. He was great, walking my girlfriend through the menu when she asked for recommendations, and sharing some great insight when we asked about the bar's history and the mixology behind the drinks. She started the evening with a Mexican Firing Squad -- very margarita-like, with tequila, lime, house-made grenadine, and Angostura. I wasn't quite as adventurous and wanted to keep things simple, so my first round was a martini, stirred and dry. The fun didn't stop there, since we had 90 minutes to relax before our dinner reservation. Round two was a Slow and Foamy -- a lemongrass- and fennel-infused vodka with egg white. It was an interesting drink; flavors you wouldn't expect to work together, worked together beautifully. It's an in-house creation by the female bartender, whose name I didn't catch. Torn between a Sidecar and a Manhattan, I went with the Sidecar, since I hadn't found a good one anywhere else in Paso. Matt poured a really nice one -- not too sweet, with a sugar-rimmed glass and well-balanced simple syrup. Like every drink that night, it was beautifully balanced. We finished with a Banana Daiquiri -- their unique take on the drink, without the slushy ice or fake banana flavor. This was probably the best drink of the night for both of us, and we shared it. It's not cheap, but a night out for drinks never is. That wouldn't stop me from bringing out-of-town guests here -- they'd love this kind of historical, speakeasy-style setting. From the purse hooks underneath (always such an appreciated detail) to the footrest the host offered so I would be comfortable on a bar stool to the mixologist who made the best drinks, our experience was 5 star. We had the smoked butter pecan old fashioned and a grasshopper (aka dessert in a glass) and both were the perfect exclamation point to a lovely evening! My husband appreciated the decor of tufted walls and the monkey sconces are a fun touch. All the details are perfect. Definitely visit if you're in town. No photos because they take your phones, but you can get one in the library before you enter if you ask. Cheers!

We struck up a conversation with the couple on the other side of the fire pit and had a great time getting to know them and talking about recent travels, kids, their amazing dog, etc. our server was a bit slow but probably not her fault as there were several groups there and I only saw her taking orders. Drinks were very good and we enjoyed the experience. We have been here before and it's a good spot to check out the views and sunset etc. We will be back.

The steak was cooked nicely and had a great crust on the outside, very flavorful with just the right amount of saltiness. The Brussels were some of the best I've had even though they were so simple. I ate every last one! The slaw was ok but not a ton of flavor, it was pretty light on the sauce. We also got an order of bacon wrapped jalapeños with cilantro ranch. They were so good! We destroyed them in seconds while burning our tongues on the lava-like cheese. Worth it!

Overall, Fish Gaucho is worth a visit for its downtown location, unique Spanish-inspired atmosphere, and solid food. We had a party of 7 and the bill had over $50!!! Added regardless of how the night went and without any prior warning. This is not OK. If you want to up charge Dayton front. If you want to hit me with a 20% service fee tell me up front. But when you do not and you put me in the patio with no Air Conditioning and charge me over $50 without my consent. Shame on you. This is a 3.5 star place but I had to down graded it for single financial issues.
