Get the fish and chips! OMFG they were soooo F'ing good AF... yes, double F worthy. It's almost a given that an Irish Pub is going to have killer Fish N Chips, but this one was amazing. The fish was crispy and flakey and their tar tar sauce was great. But those fries (aka chips)... I got the garlic fries and I'd go there just for those bad boys. I also had an amazing Shrimp Cocktail and they came with a healthy amount of delicious horseradish so I could make the cocktail sauce sing to me. The fish were plump, cold, and dense... which isn't good for a partner, but it perfect of shrimp. Drink wise, after a few days of wine drinking, I needed something of the non-wine variety and this place fit the bill. I had a delicious espresso martini which contained Guinness so it did that thing that Guinness does. So cool. The Everywhere Elixir was a great drink...refreshing and balanced with some ingredients I hadn't had before. I'd get it again. And if you like Guinness, they have a printer that prints designs on the beer's head! So cool! My head didn't fit so I couldn't try it. Once I figured out there were two sides to this place, it made a lot more sense. I ended up sitting at the bar on the "left" side where it was much more lively than the right. It was early in the evening so it wasn't overly busy on either side, but it started filling up by the time I left. The bartenders were great and worked together to make drinks and bring food, and clear plates. It was an all around great experience. If I ever go back to Paso Robles, this will be on my list again! read more

Such a fun place with great food! They have a huge space I can imagine gets filled up on weekends or game nights. Came here on a Wednesday night and had the room almost to ourselves. Everyone from the hostess, the servers, and the bartenders were super kind. We both got the Short Rib Jalapeño burger, hers was lettuce wrapped. We got side salads instead of fries, she got french onion soup and I got the chili. To start off the salads were good, nothing special but not bad at all. The chili was exceptional, very good flavor, meaty with chunks of ribeye, and a ton of cheese and red onions just how I like it. The French Onion soup was delicious, covered in cheese, and very rich. Now the burgers.....they were phenomenal tbh. The cheese was so melty and mixed with the aioli so nicely plus a little kick from the jalapeño. The patty was cooked nicely leaving it juicy, and the short rib on top was perfect. I would come back for this burger! They have some fun cocktails too, we both got a smoked maple old fashioned. This was my second visit to Pappy McGregor's in about six months. It had been recommended by friends who live in the area, and my first experience was solid enough that I was looking forward to coming back. On my first visit (evening), we walked in without a reservation and were quickly seated at the last available table. The place had a lively atmosphere, and it looked like part of the space turns into more of a dance floor later in the night. I had the French onion soup, raw oysters, and the pot pie, all of which were good. The pot pie in particular is something I would recommend. This most recent visit was for lunch on a weekday. There were plenty of open tables, and we were seated right away. Parking was easy, which is typical outside of busy weekends. The experience this time around was more mixed. We wanted to order oysters Rockefeller, but they were completely out of oysters, which was disappointing. I ordered a black and tan, which tasted fine, but it came with a design on top that I wasn't expecting. Not a big deal, just different from what I had in mind. For food, my girlfriend ordered the blackened salmon and said it was good. I went with the corned beef and cabbage. The corned beef itself was flavorful and served over mashed potatoes, which were well done. The cabbage, though, wasn't what I expected. Instead of a more traditional preparation, it was grilled with char marks and topped with au jus. The texture came out a bit rubbery and didn't really absorb the flavor well, which made that part of the dish underwhelming. Service was okay but not great. My water ran empty at one point, and I had to ask for a refill. We also ordered boneless wings as an appetizer and asked for extra ranch, which didn't come out until we reminded the server. The biggest issue, though, was something I noticed from our table with a partial view into the kitchen. An employee had their shoe up on a shelf that appeared to be holding clean dishes, which didn't come across as sanitary. I also saw food being adjusted on a plate by someone who didn't appear to be the cook. I can't speak to what's happening behind the scenes in terms of handwashing or procedures, but visually, it raised concerns. That part of the experience honestly left a bad impression. Between that, the missed items, and some inconsistencies with the food, it changed how I feel about coming back. Ok this place is a gem. I cannot get enough of how sweet the staff was and how amazing the food was. Not to mention they accommodate dogs in two different patios. Ryland was our server and is a national treasure. She helped serve us and our extra needs with ice for our dog due to the heat. The food was amazing. It was hearty and hit the spot well. 5/5 Stars Had such a great time at Pappy McGregor's! This place gives off total Irish pub vibes--even though I've never been to Ireland, it feels like the real deal. I started with a whiskey sour, and wow--it was incredible. You can tell they use egg whites because of that silky foam top. It was one of the best I've had. I also did a pickleback shot (Jameson followed by pickle juice), which is always a favorite of mine, and they nailed it. For food, I ordered the tomato bisque soup, and it was next-level. The croutons were perfectly seasoned and crunchy, and it came with a grilled cheese sandwich that had crispy melted cheese on the outside of the bread--so flavorful and satisfying. The atmosphere here is awesome--cozy, lively, and welcoming. There's a separate bar area if you're just grabbing drinks, and they also offer patio seating, which is a nice option on warm evenings. The staff was super friendly and everything felt really well-organized. I even ended up buying some merch--a hoodie for me and a trucker hat for my partner. Both are great quality and a fun way to remember a great night. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Paso Robles and looking for a laid-back, delicious, and fun experience. read more

First time here and love that they're open later than most places in this area. The waiter and bartender were cool and made the experience fun. Short Rib Jalapeño Burger 5/5: seriously delicious. The beer cheese smothering the burger was phenomenal. If there had been an egg on top, this would have been dangerous. Garlic Fries 5/5: garlicky just how I wanted with a snap to them like a baby carrot Guinness 4/5: they use this really cool laser to create designs on top of the foam. I booked a reservation for two for dinner for 6 PM this evening. I received the confirmation via the Tock app at 9:16am. I missed a call from the restaurant at 11:43am. The restaurant called me back at 11:45am. I answered the phone, and the person on the other end of the line said that they were confirming that I was going to be there this evening. I said yes I will be there at 6 o'clock. She said we're looking forward to seeing you and we hung up the phone. At 4:03pm, I received a text that said this is a reminder for your reservation at Pappy McGregor's Gastropub today at 6pm. I replied '1' to confirm the reservation. I immediately received a text afterwards that said, your reservation has been Confirmed. We look forward to seeing you! We arrived at the restaurant at 6 PM. The place was very busy. I I told the person when we arrived that I was there for dinner, and I had a reservation at 6 o'clock. He took a look at his iPad and said that he had no reservation for me. I showed him the confirmation of my reservation, and he again said I don't have a reservation for you under your name. He then said I need to talk to my manager. At that point another guy came and talked to me and explained to me that they had a large party that was there and couldn't accommodate us. I explained to him that I had a reservation and a confirmation for my time. I said we will just go find another place, but that for future reference for future patrons, it would be nice to accommodate the reservations. At which point, he just looked at me and said we're doing the best that we can. He had no desire to make any accommodations for us or for the fact that we were waiting to eat that evening. I would like to point out, that while they said that they showed no record of my reservation, I received a text at 6:06pm, that said good news your seats are ready. This was about the time that we were leaving. At 6:09 PM, I then received an email, that said that my reservation have been canceled. I find it interesting that they claimed that I did not have a reservation, but how could it be that I received a text that said my seats are ready and then a few minutes later to have an email that says my reservation was canceled... This is very poor service. This shows me that if you are not a local, your business is second rate to local patrons. So to all of you yelpers out there, I would recommend NOT even stopping by. As a bar/nightclub: pappy's is meh. It's one of the only late night places in the area, loud, mostly dancing, prettt sure they have a cover, and is always packed at night. The drinks are fine, but nothing to write home about. I'd skip the late night scene, personally. However, as an Irish pub to grab food- pappy's is totally underrated! We love their meatloaf and fish and chips; they're fresh, hot, and fairly priced. No one really talks about going to Pappy's to eat, but we were surprised that we enjoyed it! I asked for a Bloody Mary, and I believe it got to the bar in less than 90 seconds, compliments of Nejai's deft hand. And, ohhhh, WHAT a deft hand! The balance of savory and spicy is a work of art. They are using well vodka, but do not let that deter you. It is a premium brand, whose name escapes me at the mome. But Nejai isn't wasting glass real estate with the requistite planks of faded celery. Nah, nah, nah. The ONLY vertically-inserted comestible you're gonna find is an entire length of crispy bacon!! But, you may sniff it before ya see it bobbing in all the tomato juice. LOL! Chose this place because yelp said it was the best place to watch the soccer game. First, they don't turn up the volume on the TV because it's a "house rule". Also, my husband ordered the lamb burger and requested it done because it was a ground meat but was told it was only cooked medium. He asked if they could cook it throughly. the reply was, it would only be cooked medium. Our group was asked to leave after only a couple of drinks each because staff said we were "too drunk," which was honestly confusing and frustrating since none of us were intoxicated or causing any issues. It felt like the decision was completely arbitrary and handled poorly. There was no real explanation, just a quick cutoff and push to leave. The staff came across as overly aggressive and not interested in actually assessing the situation fairly. We were respectful the entire time, and being treated like that put a bad taste in our mouths. I've been a Yelper since 2010, was Yelp Elite for three years then cancelled my Yelp account and started over. In 15 years, I've never reviewed only the food let alone only one entree. But in this case, Pappy's OG Mac & Cheese is the absolute hands down most delicious Macaroni & Cheese we've ever eaten. Three cheese blend + garlic + crispy onion straws all encasing what appears to look like crescent shaped raviolis. So unique, so much flavor, this OG Mac & Cheese caused our party of 7 at lunch to return the same day for dinner so that the few of us who didn't have that lucious delight for lunch could order it for dinner. Always dropping by at the perfect time. We both got a Wagyu burger. It was perfectly prepared! The prices here are very reasonable, too. My fave thing, it's so simple, was real glasses for the water. It felt upscale, so perfectly clean, heavy, cold & classy. The only bad time we had, when I took off a star, was bc when we walked in, the whole place smelled like fish. My only regret of my wedding night was doing my after party here. We had contacted in advance to pay cover for everyone and they said don't worry we'll take care of it when you arrive. We arrived and were willing to prepay for everyone on card but they would only take cash for cover. We gathered $$ and paid them cash to cover at least 30 guests but they charged everyone anyways Their ID policy is VERY strict and they wouldn't let anyone in without an ID, including several people in their sixties You could not order drinks without having every person who was getting a drink at the bar with you which was hard because it was so crowded Two of my friends got kicked out for going to the restroom together, despite going to separate stalls The bartenders were RUDE. They also closed an hour earlier than their actual hours- on a Saturday night We tried to show a local business some love and it completely backfired. Located in downtown Paso Robles, Pappy's is a popular place to go for food and drinks. Food is decent here, we especially enjoyed the Mac n cheese, bacon baked potatoes, chopped chicken salad and sweet potato fries. My favorite thing to do is visit here with friends and order a bunch of appetizers to share since they have so many. The service is real hit or miss, not great to say the least. They have a full bar inside and it is usually pretty packed. Behind the restaurant is also their attached speakeasy (called 1122). Ate here for lunch one time and sat in the back patio area (which is typically closed during the winter). It is super dog friendly so I was able to bring my dog, and there were a lot of other dogs as well! read more

I love a good pub, and delighted to have one in my town. Now, these may be fight'n words, but English or Irish, I don't care. Love. It has various rooms. A small primary room with the largest bar, a side room with another bar, and a front and rear side patio (with a bar). I wouldn't say deluxe, but nice and clean. Stevie once, Stevie twice -- wonderful waitress and bartender. First time at the bar with a guy friend, and last night, outside on the front sidewalk patio with the gf and pooch. Love her. A glass of Guinness both times, we ate last night. Wow. Perfect. Awesome Caesar salad with full crisp & fresh romaine leaves, and an unreal portion of fish & chips (2 huge filets of fresh rock cod) and fries. We split each, and I couldn't finish. Again, love. Food was good except the not your "mama's grilled cheese and tomato bisque " is confused. The sandwich has sliced tomato, bacon, with cheese and does not know if it is a bacon tomato sandwich or a grilled cheese sandwich. The soup at first bite seemed weird until I realized it too was confused because it had too much red pepper and that is the prominent taste the tomato just in the background so not really a tomato soup. My daughter had the Ruben it had too much vinegar on the picked cabbage which over powered the sandwich and the meat should have been chopped up more seemed too long and stringy the thousand island dressing on the side tasted too much like a tarter. However, the service was outstanding our waitress Stevie was excellent very bubbly and attentive loved her! I had high hopes for the food here, I would first like to say the parking was a little bit difficult on a weekday, however the area is very lovely. Coming to this restaurant my coworkers recommended; the ambiance was very lively, and the staff was very friendly. On to the food. The presentation was very nice and the portions were big. My chicken blt however was very flavorless, the chicken was grilled, but bland and no seasoning, and the garlic fries had a lot of garlic and no flavor. As for the fish tacos, the fish was nicely fried, but very bland. I was disappointed with what I ordered, I would come here for an event, to hangout, or to take nice pictures.
