Last minute, much over due, date night. We have been wanting to check out The Prewitt since it opened, and it did not disappoint. The signature drinks were well thought out, with homemade mixers, and complex flavors. Our entrees were perfectly portioned, able to finish them and be comfortable with room for dessert if you wanted. After dinner as we were leaving, we decided to turn back around and head to the lounge for after dinner drinks. We will 100% be back to The Prewitt, and love having such a great restaurant in Plainfield. read more

Stopped by for lunch with a party of 3 on a slowish Thursday. They were still the "soft opening" phase, I believe grand opening was the following night. The service was attentive and laid back which I prefer. We had the wagyu corn dogs and short rib egg rolls as starters and both did not disappoint. We each had a different sandwich and all 3 were very good and hardy portions. My fellow patron decided on dessert for the entire table even at my disdain. I'm glad he did because the biscuits with homemade apple butter were exceptional! Hats off to The Prewitt for a much needed break from the chain monopoly on US 40. read more

Went for dinner and show. We watched the Sax Guy and he was outstanding. We ordered the New York Strip, the King Salmon, the Chicken medallions and for dessert we ordered to share the Sticky Foot and the expresso cheesecake. Having grown up in Plainfield, I feel like Plainfield is the place that independent restaurants go to die. There just aren't many options if you want to go somewhere that isn't a chain. So I was really excited for The Prewitt. Not only because it's not a chain, but because it is an ambitious project that takes a historical space and redeems it for community use. My wife and I went to The Prewitt on our first date since having our daughter. I called and made a reservation day of (they weren't doing walk ins at the time I think). The renovations are amazing. There are a lot of spaces for sitting and sipping while you wait to be seated. Whether in the lobby, their bar, or in front of the stage, order an app and a drink and settle in. They were playing the Santa Clause on screen which was a fun activity while waiting for food. The bread basket is a thin crisp popcorn cracker with some butter. A little too much butter served for the amount of cracker. Not filling at all but a fun taster. I got the butterscotch rootbeer old fashion. Really fun simple syrup. I would have it again. The actual dinner menu is honestly disappointing. There just isn't a lot on there that is not a risk to order. I wish they had some more options that did not take something familiar and add something exotic on top of it. Of course I want most of the menu to be exciting and new. But there needs to be a level of familiar that mitigates the risk of ordering a couple new dishes. I would recommend ordering from the bar for some of the more familiar food, trying one main dish with a loved one, and enjoying a fun drink and dessert. I was very excited to try the Prewitt mainly for the nostalgia. I grew up in Plainfield and the movie theater was one of our hang outs. I loved when I walked in it seemed like I stepped right back into the 80's woth the ticket booth and restrooms right where I remembered them. My friend and I had a reservation for 445 on a Thursday and we were seated right away. We were in the upstairs dining area and it was very nice and cozy. Loved seeing the rooftop dining area and would like to go back again and sit in the area overlooking US 40. Loved the mural on the wall that looked like a hallway. It was so cool. Our server came out right away and she was awesome. Very attentive and knowledgeable. I could tell she had served before and asked her where and she said Coachman. I knew I recognized her and now I can't remember her name to give her a shout out (I want to say Sarah). She recommended some cocktails to us. I had the one twenty one old fashioned. It was delicious. My friend had the SBNTS and she enjoyed that as well. She then brought out a "gift" from the chef and it was popcorn crisps with truffle butter. The crisps were unusual and I didn't love them but the butter was tasty. I would rather have some bread. I have to admit the menu isn't what I'm used to so I decided to play it safe and get the burger and fries. My friend did the same. It was good. Was it $22 good no. It was no better than Bru Burger or any other high end burger place but the price was really steep. The burger patty itself I thought was somewhat overshadowed by the big potato roll. Definitely a eat with your fork and knife. The fries were very heavily seasoned They would've been much better without so much of the seasoning. I couldn't even taste the fries for the seasoning. So with one cocktail and a burger and fries with tip was a whopping $48. Most expensive burger I've ever had! With all that said I would like to return again and take the hubby and try the tri tip steak. It would be nice to have some more regular options on the menu like a steak salad and baked potato. The bottom line is I just might not be cut out for fine dining! We did have an overall good experience and the service was outstanding along with the cocktail. Oh and it was a week before Christmas so our server gave us a candy cane for an after dinner mint. That was a nice touch. The building is just awesome! read more

What a miss. Had a 6:30pm reservation, got sat at about 7:15pm. The hostess kept telling everyone the wait would be "a couple of minutes". Had their house old fashioned made with popcorn syrup, it just tasted like the popcorn syrup, couldn't tell if there was any bourbon in it at all. My wife had the "sweet but not too sweet" and it was indeed Far too sweet. I had the short ribs, they were way over cooked to the point that it was essentially bad pot roast and even worse it was just soaked in bbq sauce and that sauce wasn't good either. And to top it all off there was live music. That live music was far too loud. There is apparently an upstairs and downstairs, so theoretically seating away from the music, but it wasn't offered. I would never go back or recommend it to anyone. *update to respond to the business owner: we were not offered the rooftop seating and didn't know it existed and had to wait 45 minutes after our reservations to get the seated anywhere. And again most importantly, the food and drinks were all pretty bad. read more

This is my second visit to the Prewitt. I am very happy that Hendricks County has this restaurant. The food is so good and different. It is nothing like the restaurant chains that dominate most of Hendricks County. It is not the cheapest place, but you will have a great meal in a nice atmosphere. read more

This was brought to managements attention the very next morning, and their only explanation was we can't control the sewer smell and offered no solution to our issues. I had a girlfriend visiting from out of town and thought this would be a really unique place to take her to brunch. I had been following the renovations of this charming movie theater and having an open reservation for brunch worked out perfectly for us. Lets start with the aesthetics of entrance, very clean, simple and chic, the framed double doorway into the theater/dining area gave a dramatic entrance that made you feel like you were really stepping into an experience. We had a Christmas movie playing with a low volume as to not interrupt a conversation, such a cool way to pay homage to this historical building while dining. The menu was extremely clever using a script influence and the selection for brunch was plentiful. You are not going to receive a large dining plate with a traditional breakfast if that is what you are looking for, however you will be very satisfied in the serving of whatever you choose. I had the Bees and Gees, which was a lavender biscuits with chorizo gravy that had a few grilled onions and some micro sprouts of sorts. It was very delicious once I got over the initial punch of Lavender. The hint that I was expecting was overpowering because it was so unexpected, but it was a very wonderful dish. My friend had the dutch baby egg dish and was also very impressed. The only thing that I was a tad disappointed in, was the service. Although the server was delightful it took nearly 20 minutes to be greeted and her visit to the table while we were dining was like a pass by that didn't give us enough time to ask for another beverage. The bottled water was a nice touch but it was room temperature and not refreshing. Keep in mind that I understand it is still fairly new and she may be learning a new job, she was very lovely. It wasn't a flaw at all or didn't spoil our visit what so ever . The place looks cool and the live entertainment was good. The food, however, is way overpriced. I got the pasta in mushroom sauce and was served half a bowl of overcooked pasta, maybe five slices of mushrooms, very little sauce, and two tiny pieces of bread that were hard as a rock. For $21, I at least expect a full bowl with sauce and a decent-sized piece of bread. I was hungry again two hours later, which should never happen after pasta. The cocktails were also overpriced and served in the tiniest glasses I've ever seen (like maybe two shots worth of a mixed drink). Won't be returning. Would rather go to one of the many Mexican restaurants in town where you can get good food, decent portions, and an entire pitcher of margaritas all at a decent price. read more

We had very high hopes for this place and I am so disappointed. The menu is very upscale and quite limited - which implied that the service and quality would be top notch. Maybe we hit an off night, but our party of six all had cold or over cooked food. Our waiter never checked on us. We ordered wine and our waiter wasn't able to open the bottle - we wanted a second bottle right away (party of 6) he failed to bring it. I went there last night for the first time, because I heard they have trivia, which was a lot of fun. The atmosphere was great and the service workers were very friendly at first. For a restaurant that was as slow as they were I was surprised by the wait time. I was also feeling an underlining sense of misogyny from the service workers while I was sitting with my male friend. There were a lot of assumptions being made by every worker and they only made eye contact and spoke with him not me (female). The food was also EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. I got 5 medium size shrimp in my shrimp cocktail for $18! The Caesar salad was $12 when it was $5 quality. The food together should've been about $10. I was very disappointed and regretful when paying. I will never eat there again. The pink cocktail was delicious though. I now understand why the restaurant was empty. If I return for trivia, then I will only have drinks. read more

My fiancé and I were looking forward to a movie night and finally getting to go to try this newer restaurant. I've never been as disappointed in an experience as I was in there Christmas movie night. We walked in and the ladies at the front desk were bickering with each other on where to sit people. After we were given a table we sat at our table for 40 minutes before a server came to give us a menu and fill up our water cups. We paid $15 a ticket for a movie we couldn't hear and then they moved a large party in front of us so we couldn't see it either. We waited for our popcorn it was never brought when we asked we were told "oh sorry it's burnt so you probably don't want it anyways." Our food came out finally as the movie was already over. My fiancé paid $16 for a bacon and cheese only hamburger that came out extremely dry and almost burnt. The burgers were extremely small on the bun that it didn't even fill him up. It was crazy to pay $16 for that and it not even come with a side. We paid $61 for over done food and small portion sizes. Then on top of that we paid $30 for a movie we couldn't hear or see, not to mention it was a movie we had already saw before but were excited for a movie and dinner experience. I think a movie and dinner could be a great idea but the effort by staff and the overall experience was awful. We love to support local but it's hard to come back after an experience like this. I reached out to management via email about this experience the next day and still a month later have yet to hear back. I do not recommend wasting your money and especially not on there "movie night." read more

First time here. I stopped by with no reservation on a Thursday evening during prime dinner time and they were able to seat me with no problem. I felt like the menu was ample, covered all the bases but wasn't overwhelming. I chose the roasted half chicken which turned out to be a really good choice. My hostess, Heather, was delightful but when I asked her if I could substitute something for the mashed potatoes (diabetic issue) she had to go talk to the chef to get his approval first. I thought that was a little awkward. I was delighted when she came out and said I could have broccolini instead. The chicken was out of this world delicious! The broccolini was a little tough but since it wasn't normally part of the meal I can't complain. The atmosphere is unique and in my opinion kind of cool. Overall I thought $28 was just a little bit steep for a half chicken and no-salad, but certainly not outlandish, especially for the quality of the food. I really debated on whether or not to write this review, but here we go. We had an 8pm reservation for Friday night during Devour. Our party of six was seated promptly and were provided with phenomenal service by Brock who was our server. The drinks were very good and we all enjoyed every single cocktail as well as the ambiance. It took quite a while to receive our appetizers but they were also good; we got the Brussel sprout dip and the burrata. When it came time to order our entrees we were informed that several dishes were not available, my guess is because they had overlap with their devour menu. 2 of us ordered steaks, 2 ordered the salmon, one ordered the short rib bowl, and one got the vodka sauce pasta. It took quite a long time for the food to come out and our server was struggling to professionally cover for obvious back of house issues. When our food finally arrived, it was all awful. Steaks were under seasoned and quality was lacking. Salmon was also poorly cooked, under seasoned, and pale. Pasta overcooked, and part of the short rib bowl was unavailable and the mushrooms substituted. I got a side of Brussels sprouts which were also poorly cooked and under seasoned. To say we were profoundly disappointed is an understatement. This was more of a meal that one would expect at Applebee's or a similar restaurant. Due to the time we waited none of us wanted to complain and simply wanted to leave. The salmon also made my wife violently ill a short time later. This is not an accusation I level lightly, as I know there can be many causes. However, we have iron clad stomachs and the only thing that could've cause this was the salmon, which noted on the menu is cooked to medium rare level due to it being sushi grade. I can confirm, it most certainly was not sushi grade. We had been looking forward to visiting as we had all heard great things about this place. It's fair to say that none of us will ever make to drive from downtown to frequent this place ever again. TL;DR, go for a cocktail and eat elsewhere. read more

Doesn't help waiting at least 15 for drinks. Should've given up then but we ordered food and the food was not good. Steak couldn't have been cooked any longer, the potatoes were burnt but the carrots were pretty good. The ambiance is about the only thing good going for them. One of the most disappointing restaurant experiences of recent memory. Reservations were for 6:45, we were seated 7:15. The charcuterie preordered for the table was uninspired and very disappointing. Placing and getting our order was painfully slow. The food was pedestrian. Any home town cafe has more flavor and flare than this supposed elevated high end restaurant. The atmosphere is excellent, set in an old theater in Plainfield Indiana. Plenty of nostalgia. But the service and the food were more on the scale of a food truck going out of business. This could be an amazing venue. The head chef seems to lack the sophistication of truly inspired cuisine. There must have been an anomaly on this visit since most reviews are good. Maybe the kitchen staff did not show up. But we weren't the only patrons with a bad experience this night. First impressions are sometimes the only impression. And the fact this enormously bad experience even happened speaks volumes about management. read more
