Can't recommend this place enough. On a date night we enjoyed a couple cocktails: I had the manhattan and private jet, love both. My wife had the Margo and rising sun, both great, although the Margo was a tad too sweet. We shared the empanadas, lamb meatballs, shrimp tostadas and oysters. The ambience is nice, the dining chairs are comfortably padded, and the lighting is dim. Our waitress was Taylor and she took good care of our group of 8 ladies. The menu is nice and changes frequently. I opted for the 6 oz petite filet, served with whipped potato and green beans, which were more of a garnish than side dishes. I ordered my steak prepared medium and it was slightly over cooked but still very tender and delicious. The bread was a little dry and unexciting. I shared the Caesar salad, which was chopped and had a nice dressing. Downstairs is a store with wines for sale, fresh pastries and gelato type ice cream. Parking lot north of the building. We then shared as a primi the strawberry and burrata salad with arugula, pistachios and a balsamic vinagrette. Unlike some other places, the burrata really was burrata and delicious. It was perfectly accompanied by the strawberries and the balsamic. For our mains, one of our group ordered the seared branzino. Its skin was crispy and the fish inside perfectly cooked, not dried out as sometimes happens in other restaurants. Fortunately, I was given a taste and it was outstanding. For the other mains, we ordered the duck breast. We were given a choice of temperatures for the duck. The chef suggested medium. We wisely took the chef's suggestion and the duck breasts came out perfectly cooked and delectable. It was accompanied by roasted Brussels sprouts, blackberries, a corn veloute and a red wine demi. I would order this dish again in a New York minute. Throughout, we were ably aided by our server, Chelsea. She was terrific and if things got a little backed up, the floor manager stepped in and kept it moving. Finally, we had a decaf affogato for dessert. My husband and I had a date night and made reservations at Up Cellar. There is no signage outside to tell you where exactly this restaurant is located. It is actually part of the Pizza & Libations restaurant, just up a long steep flight of stairs. We were taken upstairs after waiting in the P&L lobby for about 15 minutes. Our server was a very bubbly girl who approached our table quickly to get our drinks. I viewed the menu and had a slight panic because it was totally different than what is posted on the Up Cellar website. When I viewed the menu on their website, it showed they had a chicken entree and a mushroom pasta entree that I was excited about. I do not eat beef or pork and choose my restaurants carefully by viewing menus prior to making reservations or visiting. I asked our server about those dishes I found on their website, she replied that the menu has changed and other people have said the same thing about the website not being updated with the new menu. I was quite frustrated at this point. You would think that a restaurant with expensive prices like Up Cellar would update their website!! I told the server my dilemma and she suggested baked Mac & cheese with lobster. I had no other choice so I agreed. I did get French onion soup and also ate some of the bread that was brought to the table. The French onion soup was good. The lobster Mac & cheese was just ok. I ate maybe half and the server boxed up the remaining for me. My husband had the NY strip that came with potatoes and a wedge salad. We had the apple pie for dessert that was ok. On the drive home, I started to feel strange. We got home and I ran to the bathroom to vomit my brains out!! I believe the lobster or the creamy sauce in the Mac & cheese was off which caused me to be sick . The meal started with cold rolls that tasted and looked as though they came from a kroger bag. Then butter was served in the disposable type of packs. Come on, how hard is it to serve fresh bread and butter on a plate. The atmosphere and the price of the meal deserves this extra touch. I had the lobster bisque, wow you could smell it from the kitchen door, a strong fishy/seafood smell. Overall the taste was good just really a strong smell. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and had to wait in their small foyer until exactly our reservation time. Kind of annoying, but we let it go. Our waiter was great and very personable. The cocktail and bread were excellent. My wife ordered the duck, but it was raw. Instead of firing a new one, they just heated up the one they undercooked the first time. I have held reviewing this restaurant for some time in order to let my initial expression mellow. First, the owners of this upscale eatery of transformed the once sleepy rural crossroad village into a true destination for dining. Taxman Brewing and Pizza & Libations have a well deserved following in the Bargersville area. Up Cellar is on the second floor above The Pizza & Libation restaurant. A true obstacle to any handicapped or elderly person is the fact that the only means of reaching the second floor restaurant is via a long steep stairs. The ambience is perfect for a romantic date or evening with your significant other. The night we dined our server explained that she was pinch hitting from the Taxman Brewery down the street. Obviously, the pacing of cocktails, appetizers, entrees and desserts is far different in an upscale restaurant than a sports grill. Delivery of the meal components were very slow and dirty dishes not removed before delivery of next stage of the meal. This was so evident that it detracted from our enjoyment of the evening. The food was a diverse range of outstanding to poor. The crab cake appetizer was indeed the best I have had. The molten lava cake dessert was very tasty. However, my pork chop and my wife's skirt steak were very dry. We certainly will continue to visit the brewery for casual food but we feel that an upscale eatery is in need of major improvements. read more

This was a wonderful surprise. Parking is very easy and just across the street. The entrance is shared with the pizza place, so it's just a bit confusing, but the person at the door was very helpful. The music and lighting fit just right with the food. The stairs are a little steep but easy to get up. The bone in ribeye was just about as tender as a waygu steak. It was very flavorful and good. Mashed potsotes are on the top of the list. Baked mac and cheese is very creamy and wonderful taste. The wife couldn't get enough of the gnocchi. She doesn't eat much but almost finished the plate. It's located in Bargersville Indiana by the railroad track look like there's a fun pizza place as well as a coffee shop deli next to it you can easily walk by and not know how to get in you just go through the door that says 75 where the pizza shop is. then they take you up a long flight of stairs to get up upstairs it's a very elegant setting place. Easy it reminds you of a speakeasy. We ordered the wedge salad and split it and glad that we did even splitting it was a large salad. I also got the shrimp cocktail which was amazing. My wife got the fillet and I got the ribeye both were fantastic and came with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. we splurged and got dessert and my wife said the cheesecake was one of the best she's ever had. Went for Father's Day to celebrate his first. Finding the entrance was hard, no signs outside let you know where to go so went into the market area which helped us to know to go to the host stand. They share a host stand area with the pizza place downstairs. Opening at 5 and reservation was at 5, promptly got seated and attended to. AJ was our server and she was great. Good convo with her and she seemed knowledgeable about items when asked. It's only 18+ when making reservations, when we left we saw people had to make new plans as they had younger children with them. The atmosphere was great, dark and chill like a speakeasy would be. Husband said his old fashion was delicious - he's very picky on that and gave kudos to the bartender. Husband also loved his wagyu steak. It was about $80ish for the 14oz which is a steal, probably because it's from the Louisville Kentucky farm versus overseas but still delicious (we've had Japanese and Australian before). The shrimp were amazing as well. I had the filet, unfortunately I had to send back due to being very rare versus medium rare. Mashed potatoes were also good, but the garnish they use on top overwhelmed the plate. Dessert not pictured was a cheesecake with blueberry compote and berry cobbler with vanilla gelato (cobbler topping wasn't normal topping but once mixed and soaked up berry sauce it was very good). Ok so this place was so yummy! The service was great. The ambiance was great. They had a busy week and were out of a lot of things but they still had plenty of options. The cocktail special of the night was yummy and so pretty with the rose mold ice cube. The lobster chowder was good but didn't have much lobster pieces in it. I saw just one piece. The chopped salad was so good with the lemon vinagerette and goat cheese. Amazing flavor. I ordered the 6 oz filet which came with carrots and whipped potatoes. It was overcooked but still good. We had to wait a bit for our table but it was worth the wait. You enter at the door that has 75 above it. It is a speak easy style so not very obvious where the entrance is. P&L is next door. Whoa! Let's just start there. The decor is to die for! Celebrated my birthday here with hubs. We started on the patio with some cocktails. The patio was empty and the weather was beautiful. After we were seated we were treated with a complimentary bite from the chef. A bite of sushi grade salmon with some caviar. The salmon was smooth against the briny caviar. In a word; decadent. Next we had our appetizers: Wagyu tartare and crab cake. Wagyu- absolutely delicious. The combination of the briny capers, creamy sauce and soft beef on top of a salty crispy chip is a creamy opulent bite. The crab cake had no filler! It was coupled with a sauce that had a lemony punch but still very velvety. The combination of the fried crab and grapefruit that accompanies provides the perfect amount of punch. Dinner: Me- Wagyu sirloin: perfectly cooked medium. Great sear and velvet texture. Hubs- Wagyu ribeye: first time over cooked. Upon re-fire, was cooked just as he asked and well seasoned. However it was very thin and based on texture and beefy flavor, it resembled a prime cut. In the opinion of these two seasoned eaters, it fell short of expectations for the price tag. Sides: Lobster Mac: excellent, noodles had perfect amount of bite and they hold up to the creamy cheese and smoky element. Creamed spinach: good. I would've liked to have a little thicker sauce and a little more Parmesan punch. Dessert: Bananas Foster: everything you want. Case closed. Our server J was awesome! There is so much potential at Up Cellar but there is always something that makes the experience less than ideal. They have an amazing bar but you can't wait at it before your table. They have never sat us on time as per our reservation but the place has several empty tables and you can get more common cocktails downstairs but not upstairs. The food is inconsistent, sometimes it has been amazing but sometimes it is lacking. Wait staff continue to serve like it's their first day. We went on a quest to find a new restaurant in Bargersville that had been recommended to us. We decided to go during Devour so we could experience a special menu. I was surprised to learn that it was in the same restaurant group as Taxman and Pizza and Libations downstairs. When we checked in downstairs I was surprised to see that we had a large flight of stairs up to get to the actual restaurant. That could be a challenge for many people. We were promptly seated and waited on. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with dim lighting and several wine walls. I started with a delicious cocktail called gold on the ceiling. The first course was a tasty crab cake with lots of crab filling. I had the skirt steak as my entree. It was cooked to the requested level and just the right size for a small appetite. Unfortunately it was a little tough. My dessert was the chocolate molten lava cake. It was a good dessert. My main complaint with our meal was the pacing of our courses and sometimes we were left waiting and other times the next course was delivered without removing the prior courses dirty dishes. So my wife and I ate here for the first time in February and were very impressed. That being said, we took my Mother with us for a special occasion on April 4th and had a totally different experience. When we were there in February, the steaks came with a side of potatoes. Very nice! That is something that most upscale steakhouses don't offer. NOW, we learned, everything is ala carte. "We just changed that sir, there are no sides with your entree now." I ordered the ribeye as I did last time. This time, it was not a good cut at all and had no lip cap. You would think paying 60 bucks for an ala carte steak that it would at least be a cut with a lip cap, and that the quality would be Prime. Not even close. In addition, the first 3 wines that I ordered off of their wine list they were "out of it". What? All in all Up Cellar, do you want to be an upscale steakhouse or do you just want to charge prices like an upscale steakhouse and cheap out on everything else? For our $380 for 3 people (and only 1 bottle of $52 wine), I can get A LOT more bang for my buck at real upscale steakhouses. As residents of Bargersville, it upsets me to say that we won't be returning now. read more

I'm not going beat them up, I do like what they are bring to the south side of Indy in Bargersville. The restaurant, atmosphere, and service is immaculate. Modern with an emphasis on upscale dining. The food; it has potential. Total bill was not what I would say worth it. Either the price needs to be adjusted or the quality needs to be raised. We had the Wagyu Tartare. It was beefy and fatty, topped with greens which is expected, but bland. It needed some seasoning ie. salt and pepper would go a long way, maybe some extra sauce that was on it and some tang to it. The chips used to scoop it up was certainly over seasoned and soggy. It could have been used as a mini tortilla, it was that soggy. We also had shrimp (4 pieces) cocktail. Tasted like generic blanched jumbo shrimp from kroger or meijer down the street. It came with cocktail sauce of what tasted like ketchup. The garlic rolls they had was decent, tad bit doughy, but not bad. Main course: The fathers day wagyu ribeye was a 14oz 1/2" thick char grilled. This was the only redeeming dish we had. Thinner than most ribeyes I'm used to, but it was cooked rare, topped with some shrimp, and was delicious. The wife had Wagyu Sirloin. It was alright, more dry than the fatty "wagyu" it was labeled as. The crust was charred harder than the ribeye, but the right temp none the less. Lastly the sides, wedge fries and Mac and Cheese. Fries was good, can't complaint. Mac and Cheese leaves little to be desired. The pasta used was just not the right kind or has been over cooked, a bit chewy. The cheese part wasn't really cheesy and was dry. There's good flavor, but the dish needs work on the texture and consistency. We understand they've only been open for about 6 weeks from what we're told, but this is our first impression. It has potential and we may give it another try in the near future. We like what this place has to offer, just needs a bit of work on the food. read more

The food portion and presentation is way overpriced. A 6oz steak came with only one small scoop of potatoes, no garnishes or other sides. A salad was add'l $12 and up. For two people on Valentine's Day with one cocktail each, wine, dessert it was almost $300 without tip. There are some good choices much more reasonably priced on the south side now to go to with outstanding food quality and value. Some of the nicer steak houses in downtown Indy offer a better value. My husband and I went to Up Cellar last night for my husband's birthday. The atmosphere is great - speak easy vibe. Our waiter Nathan was incredible. He went through the menu, explained how the food is locally sourced, make recommendations for steaks and dessert. Service was very, very slow and our server seemed less than enthused to serve us. She spent a great deal of time hanging out with the table next to us and chatting while our entrees came out separately (~5 minutes apart) and our drinks were empty.
