First time needing a rooftop box so I've been doing my reading and research. Was worried by a lot of things like will it fit the rack i installed on my car or will it be a reliable box. Will is very helpful and honest to help us. I was looking for a roof top for my car, cause I want to carry a Kayak. However, Will gave us the honest suggestion that my car is not suitable or recommend to install that due to my car is a 2-door and the top is narrow. Instead, we bring our van there to see the open and we ended up installed a hitch in the back of our van. They told us it will take approx. 2 - 2.5 hours for the installation, but we got the car back in 1.5 hr. We want to get a small kayak trailer but Yakama is out of stock/backorder. The wait time is about 30 minutes per person. If there are 2 customers ahead of you, expect to wait in line for an hour even for a simple question. ... but wait it gets better! They actually managed to install a wrong overhead rack on my car. I wanted a rack that I could easily take on and off. These guys installed a rack that is screwed to the roof and takes 30 minutes to install or uninstall. And that can't be undone. It's a new car, they drilled holes in the roof. I bought a Yakima rack online and put it on myself but the rack was really wobbly and the bolt that keeps the rack in the hitch seemed off. A neighbor on Nextdoor app suggested I go to The Rack Spot for help. Joe figured out the problem immediately and had it fixed in minutes. He tightened up some areas I hadn't got tight enough at home, gave me some tips to keep my bike rack in good working order and even showed me how to secure the bikes to the rack. They took a rack from me & gave it to another customer. I waited in line on a Sunday morning to get in the store. The woman in front of me had a ton of questions about how racks work, the best kind for her car, etc. The man working the front desk walked her through everything, mentioning numerous times they were too busy to install a hitch that day, yada yada. While they're chatting, I ask if he has any 3-bike trunk racks. He says no, just one that holds two, and points it out. I think about it a bit, then think, "OK, two will have to do." I grab the box and wait to pay. The lady finally wraps up her conversation with the guy, deciding she wants a trunk rack. But I had already picked up the last one, and I was waiting to pay for it. The man up front informs me that because she entered the store first, she had dibs on it! Even though neither of them said anything about it when I was in there. But suddenly, it's hers? That's not how stores work. It was completely ridiculous. The only reason I didn't argue was because I had to pick my bike up at the Bike Connection & knew they had 2-bike trunk racks in stock. Funny enough, the Bike Connection had recommended the Rack Spot to me, and they were also shocked by the dibs move. I'm sure these guys know their racks, but what boneheaded move. read more

I've gone to The Rack Spot twice now and have been very happy. The first time, they were able to install a trailer hitch during the crushing demand of 2020, when everyone was trying to get on the road during the pandemic. No one else had the availability, and Rack Spot found the time to get it done and help our family have a great vacation during a tough time. The second was installing roof racks on a Mini Cooper in 2021, not an easy task since the racks had to be as far apart as possible, given that I had to carry a 14-foot-long boat on the roof. They did a great job, and the racks have been rock-solid. I'm now going with them a third time to install a trailer hitch on a Mini Cooper, also not an easy task since the tailpipe is in the middle of the car, right where you'd need to put a hitch. I talked to other places -- the Mini dealerships in San Francisco and Marin, and a trailer place in San Francisco, -- but none of them were willing to take on this job. Rack Spot is taking it on, with a can-do attitude. To sum up, they're the best trailer and rack place I've worked with. Real pros. read more

Have used this place a few times to install car hitch, roof rack, and so forth. Since I am not an SUV guy, I needed a roof rack to handle road bike, paddle board, kayak, and so forth. I did some research and JP installed a system that would handle all my outdoor toys. My 2018 VW Passat doesn't factory roof rack so fortunately for me, JP knows his stuff and hooked me up. Luckily it wasn't an arm and a leg due to all the discounts and so forth. You need not go anywhere else for your roof rack systems!!!!! PS. The entire team at the Rack Spot is amazing. I was moving cross country and reached out to more than a dozen businesses, asking for help deciding what rack and box to get for the trip. Most businesses brushed me aside and refused to help pick out a system for my "naked" roof - they were too busy to even answer basic questions, like if they had something in stock. My experience at the Rack Spot was completely different. From the second I called, everyone was beyond generous with their time and advice. They were knowledgeable and helped me pick out the best system for my needs. They were so communicative and although also busy, worked me in and worked around my very tight schedule. When I shopped at The Rack Spot there were two employees on site - the store manager and an employee. Although they were both knowledgeable, I was put off by how rude they both were - especially the manager. The employee was trying to give me information (he was actually quite helpful at first), while the manager was yelling from across the store, repeatedly interrupting. They kept talking over each other aggressively which was so awkward and unnecessary. The manager also was never wearing his mask (this is during covid times, with posted mask policy on the door). For me this was very uncomfortable as delta variant is circulating and refuses to go away. He was also coughing and didn't seem to care about infecting his customers. The real problem for me was when I started asking about return policy - the purchase I was about to make was well over $1,000 so I wanted some peace of mind in case there was a problem, whatever it may be. At this point they both started getting up in my face: "Why would you want to return it?" "You don't believe us it will fit?" "Why would it not fit?" "What do you think won't fit in there?" "If I'm being honest we do take returns but if you use it you can't return it." "If there is a single scratch or sign of use you cannot return it" The last two points sound quite reasonable at first - but the issue is that you have to mount the roof cargo box on your car in order to get it home so there is no actual way of returning this product new. This is the point I was trying to clarify: if I mount the box on my car in your parking lot and realize there is a problem, or get the thing home and realize there is a problem, can I return it? I never got a real answer because they pounded me with so many questions to try to intimidate me that I just got fed up and left. I will not go back to this store. read more
