If you are looking for an upscale experience and really good food. This is your place! We had the charcuterie board to start and it was a little of everything but no prosciutto. Then I had the goulash and it was very tasty and filling. The meat was very tender and soft, the flavor was excellent and very hot for a cold night. Talk about a comfort food! The ambiance was excellent, very quaint, spacious and welcoming. The service lacked a little bit. I had to request water a couple of times and we were never asked if everything was okay and if we needed anything. That is the only reason for the 4 stars. If you asked, would I come again? To start, it's a resort, so if you're penny pinching, don't waste your time. Also, it's a resort, so expect fake cordiality. That said, the decor for the lounge is traditional heavy dark wood resort-esque, comfortable seating options, and for the warmer months, opens to the restaurant patio which is quite nice. Great view of the Sun Valley landscape along with the resort pond with Adirondack chairs and manicured grounds. You get the whole white bread resort vibe with Larry, the oldest lounge pianist in the world, playing all the geriatric favorites (e.g., Moon River on repeat). I was tempted to request Row, Row, Row Your Boat but couldn't bring myself to do it. As for the food, it was amazing, I have to admit. We got the scallops and wife got the apple and crab salad. Scallops were decadent and the salad was crab heavy as it should be. Wife pecan trout was solid, cooked perfectly. My black garlic chicken had a crispy crust, perched on pureed parsnip, tasted great. For dessert, we had the delicious chocolate cake and lavendar muielle-foille. Overall, waite staff was good though the Keeper of the Table kept snatching things, first the last piece of bread (though I grabbed the second round before she could make off with it), then a plate with food we were still working on. Water stayed full, and wines were top notch. No complaints there. If you're up to some pretension in the clientele but good lots of white plate food, you will enjoy this place. read more

This was one of the best meals I have ever had. Instead of ordering just a couple entrees we decided to order several appetizers. The wagyu was perfect. We cooked on each side for about 4 seconds, seasoned with salt and wrapped it around the candied mushrooms. Delicate and so flavorful. The tuna crudo was fresh and the color was bright. We were worried the agnolotti would be heavy and ruin our progression but it wasn't. It was light with a light cream sauce and filling. Burrata and tomatoes were exceptional, simple ingredients executed perfectly. They tomatoes are warm and the balsamic is reduced. Last, we had the scallops. Cooked perfectly with a couple smooth purées. Our server was fantastic. It was her first evening and she crushed it! We sat outside and listened to the live music and it wasn't too loud. Had dinner there tonight. Ordered salmon and steak. Salmon was an eye popping $56, highest price in Sun Valley by far. My wife order beef tenderloin at $62, again highest price in Sun Valley. The food was good, but not spectacular. Split an average salad. I had a glass of French wine, which was just ok, and 2 margaritas, which were good. Got the bill. An eye popping out $237, with tip, $287. I like the Ram, but they have finally lost me because of their outrageous prices. Would not go back, better choices for the money in town. read more

Fondu is a must and with so many options. Beautiful restaurant. Impeccable friendly service. My family and I had a reservation here, but when we came earlier, they couldn't seat us so we sat in the lounge. Way prefer it. Loved being by the bar and other tables having birthday parties and the USC game was on. Get the fondu. Wow. Loved dipping potatoes a, pickles, bread, mushrooms, tenderloin, broccoli, and so many other goods. Dessert we got the cheesecake and a cake of some kind. Both so nice to share. We also got the octopus and crab cake. I loved both but the octopus better cuz the sauces were delectable. Jordan was our server. So nice and friendly. Told us about his life in New York. My friend and I came down to the Ram from our room at the Inn for a quick dinner. Most other places were booked, but we were lucky to find two seats off on the side of the bar. Everything was well spaced out for Covid restrictions, and the overall atmosphere was pleasant and not too busy. Our server/bartender Kira was awesome! She offered a tasting of different sparkling wines for my friend to choose from and then recommended some great food options. She took great care of us and made sure our glasses were always full. She made us feel right at home with her excellent customer service and kindness. Plus the fondue and dipping foods was an excellent choice for dinner! It was my first time having fondue (I think), but I will definitely remember this time now! Excellent everything. Drinks made correctly (which is getting harder and harder to find these days). I ordered the old fashioned and glad to see the large ice cube and black cherry. Food was priced on the higher side but great quality. Real Japanese grade a5 wagyu which we cooked tableside on a hot stone. A bit skeptical of the caviar (unfamiliar with "white sturgeon" vs beluga) so we didn't order, but would try next time given the positive experience with the wagyu. What a great evening at the Ram. Or should I say the bar outside of the Ram. Pro tip: we had a reservation at the ram, but you can order the same food at the bar without a reservation. More laid back and still gorgeous. Great ambience. We started with the crab cakes and the octopus. Both were very flavorful. We liked them both. Fresh bread they brought out was also yum. We then had the fondue with veggies and tenderloin. Fondue was great. Filling and the cheese mixture was top notch. Enough stinky cheese in that fondue to make it flavorful but very smooth. Dessert was the cheesecake and the bread pudding. Service was really good. We watched a football game during the whole thing. We'll be back to the ram next time we're at sun valley. If the historic wood paneling and original hand carved doors from the 40s don't impress you, the food and service certainly will. Celebrities like Arnold, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood have eaten here, not to mention the billionaires who flock here in July. I had dinner here as a part of an engineer conference so I was with a large group, then I joined another table and stayed at the bar until closing. The cloud soft bread was squaw and mild sourdough mini loafs, baked fresh and served hot from the bakery behind their bar. Butter was chilled firm and had seasoned salt on the top, my colleague scraped all the salt off when he buttered his bread and complained of salty butter which was his fault. The tuna poke starter was seasoned perfect, fresh, and they demonstrated they can serve poke bowls better than a dedicated poke restaurant. The steak tartare looked like a work of art, and bursting with a fresh garden and citrus aroma with savory buttery texture. I wasn't a fan of the crab cake. The frozen crab meat lacked flavor, and the seasoning overpowered the dish. The onion soup was fantastic though tricky to eat without having long strings of cheese connecting your mouth to your bowl. The crouton was a tad salty, but complimented the savory soup. I had the 30 day dry aged ribeye medium rare. I am 100% sure my steak was dry aged all 30 of those days from the flavor. The spinalis is my favorite part and dry aging unfortunately requires slightly trimming of the spinalis due to the dry age process. Though this is always the first part I eat. 10/10... An almost nutty earthy savory taste, with a close but not quite "liver" beef flavor to some bites. The fats are tender and the proteins are tender but not mushy... so the perfect texture. Salted perfect though they did provide an elk's horn cup of extra coarse kosher salt if needed. The next part I ate was the longissimus, and it was like eating a perfect prime rib that doesn't need au jus or horse radish. The veggies on the side were not worthy of a nomination. Carrots could have been cooked more, and the texture tasted pre-frozen. The mashed potatoes had crispy smoked bacon in and had good flavor, the texture was gummy/goey and not fluffy. The cheese cake dessert was a dissected cheese cake. The "cake" part was dry and powdery and the quenelle cheese cake piece was sour cream soft and it was like eating an uncooked ingredient instead of a custard. I was disappointed but I was just picking at it from somebody else's plate who didn't like it at all. Service was professional and polite. The servers truly have genuinely kind personalities and it showed. So the really good entree and service made up for the mediocre small dishes. My overall experience including the time at the bar results in the hands down 5 star rating. That night there was depressed crying, profanity, and obnoxiously loud shouting and the servers handled everything with an understanding. Looking forward to coming here again. read more

Elagantly Excellent Service and Food for a Reasonable 'Sun-Valley' Price. Stayed at the Sun Valley Resort for a conference over the weekend, and on my last night in Sun Valley dined at the upscale Ram restaurant attached to the Inn. Admittedly, upon first glance of the menu I saw nothing but $$$. But after a few days of living the "High-Life" and paying far too much for everything, the options seemed a bit more reasonable. Especially if you order their 'Heritage Option' of the day, bolstering some of their best menus options for $25 Special. Just so happen, the day I visited Ram the Heritage Option was an Aged Prime Rib with Whipped Idaho Potatoes and Charred Broccolini. First off, the service was excellent. Attentive and informed, my waitress Brenda and her fellow servers were charming and quick with every action. When I first sat down at my table, I noticed a slight wobby in the table as I leaned forward. Without batting an eye, one of the service staff noticed the issue and quickly came to my table to fix it. In addition to never letting my glass of water get below 50%, the service staff and especially Brenda did everything with a smile and grace. Top notch service from a top notch restaurant. After ordering, I was treated to a loaf of fresh pumpernickle and sourdough bread, served with rich creamy butter topped with smoked kosher salt. An Excellent tease to the main course...The Prime Rib. Cooked to perfection, served with a beautifully seasoned au jus, the prime rib was excellent! Enhanced by the creamed horseradish and complimented by the whipped potatoes and charred broccolini, my meal was the perfect capstone to the weekend. For excellent service and tasty food, I highly recommend checking out the Ram Restaurant. At the very least (and those on a budget), it's a wonderful place to relax and be pampered for once. read more

Be prepared for a 2 hour experience as service is good although the kitchen is slow. This restaurant is in serious need of a refresh into the new century in every way. The crab cake although ample crab was downing in an overly sweet mango sauce that killed what could have been great crab flavor. Warm tomato salad - um, just pass. Absolutely not worth the money. We expected The Ram to be a classy, upscale eating experience. Instead, it is overpriced, with a limited and expensive menu. Obviously, with the captive audience of the Sun Valley Lodge and Sun Valley Inn, they do not put the effort into the experience you would hope. While our waitress was friendly and mostly attentive (beverage refills had to be requested), the language barrier made it difficult to discuss the menu with regards to a food allergy. We started with the Hamachi Crudo at $25. While it was tasty, it was only 6 tiny bites, not even 2 oz of yellowtail. For our entrees, my husband and I both ordered the Friday "Heritage dinner", stuffed sole, only to learn later that it contained my food allergen. Instead, I ordered the duck, with farroto and acorn squash, in its place. Both my farroto, and my husband's haricots verts (yes, a fancy name for green beans), were under-cooked. The flavor of my husband's basmati pilaf was overpowered with the taste of coconut. The portion size for the sole was maybe 3-4oz of fish with roughly 2 tablespoons of crab stuffing..... For $34. The cost of the entrees would not be an issue had the taste and quality been on par with what you would expect from a restaurant established in the '30s in an upper scale resort town. Naturally, duck tends to be more fatty than other birds and fowl. That said, the flavor of my duck was so overpowered by that flavor that, indeed, an hour later I still had the taste and texture of duck fat in my mouth. Our meal total, with food, drinks and tip, was over $200 for two people. Again, it is not about the money when the taste and quality warrant. Please, do not waste your time or money. We went because it was in the hotel and we didn't want to get bundled up to go back into the freezing cold. In hindsight, we should have. read more

I cut my hand on a shard of glass in a booth, our meal took an hour and a half to come out, then the manager tried to blame it on two of our party being 3 minutes late. He didn't even apologize for my injury and made remark at us on our way out. In summary the manager was a TOTAL ASSHOLE. But our server was very nice though and the food was good. I wanted to give "The Ram" a 10, but I'm limited to 5. If you want to feel like a celebrity movie star, the service and ambiance are that good. We are visitors and this was our last night in Sun Valley, so we wanted a place where we could dress up. Hubby wore a suit and tie and I wore a glittery outfit. In a few days is our 47th anniversary. If you have an anniversary, birthday, special occasion, or really, really want too impress a date or business guest, this is the place. The ambiance is incredible, with hardwood paneling and a baby grand piano, which was played through dinner. It is Christmas, and we looked out on a winter wonderland of lighted trees. I had lamb and hubby had the New York steak. I was embarrassed, but the lamb was so good I could not help chewing and sucking on the bones. We will remember this place for a long time. It is not for every night, but when you really want to do it up right, come here. read more
