A bit disappointed... I usually do some research before choosing places to eat and this was no different - I was excited to give this place a try because of their vegan options. Once we arrived at the restaurant (after driving around to find a parking spot for 15 min) we decided to stay here and use their beach. First, the restaurant manager explained that the beach beds with shades are for the hotel guests only. That's ok - we chose two in full sun :) Second, the waiter that was supposed to be serving us was told to bring an umbrella and towels - never happened. Third, the manager told us that usually visitors are expected to spend $50USD/person, but because we are here in late afternoon (arrived at 3:00 and service was closing at 5:00), she is going to make an exception. Well, here is the truth, if you are here all day, you will spend that with no problem - drinks are $10USD+, guacamole $10USD and everything else is in that price range. However, if you are here for barely 2 hrs, you need to drink and eat A LOT. Our waiter ended being a pure disaster... obviously, he liked a group of young ladies in the crowd more than other customers... Reality check lol... The best thing about this place was killer drinks and the view :). Sorry, had a better experience at so many other places in the Tulum/Akumal area. read more

Good tasting food but spent $28 USD on a nacho bowl and green smoothie more expensive than San Francisco!

We stayed at the lovely Sanará and dined at TRC every morning and a few afternoons and evenings. Entirely aware that this property and restaurant are geared to eco-chic people of privilege, we allowed ourselves to be washed away by the experience. It was wonderful to have healthy and delicious food at the same time. Often gluten, dairy, sugar and grain free food can be good for you but not exciting to actually eat. The Real Coconut turned these past experiences upside down. The ranchero eggs and avocado toast were daily favorites, as well as the frappuccino. Also delicious was the plantain bread, omelette and pancakes. Lunchtime shrimp tostadas and malanga fries were incredible, and the guacamole and fresh coconut tortilla chips were yummy. Note, the bagged chips were not so much. Not sure if they were stale or what, but they weren't crispy and flavorful like they were fresh in the restaurant. read more

I don't understand the high ratings for this place. The food was ok and the service was lacking. I was never given a menu or even approached. After 20 minutes of waiting, I went up to the counter and ordered there. For some reason, it then took about 30 minutes for the smoothie to come out (and this place wasn't even that busy!) and 40 for the tacos. The tacos were a bit bland, nothing to rave about. Once I was done, I waited patiently for the check, which never came so I ended up going back up to the counter for it. I was surprised when I saw the total included a pretty large tip. Tip for what? There was no service! There are so many great restaurants in Tulum. I highly suggest skipping this one. read more

Love love love this place. It's dairy free, gluten free and grain free and everything taste delicious. There are amazing juices, bone broth and other healthy drinks including the most incredible decaf latte with Coconut milk. My daughter who doesn't like healthy food loves it - the "fried" fish tacos were a favorite. You could do a whole cleanse - spa vacation with this food. I would eat three meals a day here if my family let me. They have a really beautiful musician that sings at brunch on the weekends and some nights. The vibe is very chill compared to the "scene" on the strip. The service was super fast - and I'm from New York!! We went on Indian night and had wonderful Indian food. Health food in an upscale setting. Worth it to check it out just for the views from the patio. Try to get a bed on the beach if you can. 100% gluten free so safe for celiacs. i have been to this place a few times and in the past i had good experiences and food. i live in cancun, so i am familiar with GOOD service in mexico, and have lived in NYC and LA, so have a good sense of GOOD healthy restaurants (i.e. the butcher's daughter or cafe gratitude). today i decided i am never coming back to the Real Coconut. we arrived, got a seat, and were kept waiting 20 minutes because it was the owner's birthday and the entire staff stopped working and went in to celebrate. i am not saying do not celebrate, but leaving your customers waiting while you throw a little party? as a courtesy for the lack of attention, the hostess offered our drinks "on the house", but at the end she still put them on our tab. we ate our food, finished and asked for the rest of our food to go. claiming they have a 'zero waste' campaign to raise awareness on the use of plastic, they were charging $35 pesos per container.... but the container is not plastic, it is biodegradable. this made no sense to me. paying $75 dlls for a meal and being charged for a container? it was not even plastic, so what does using a biodegradable container have anything to do with plastic? i felt was cheap way to cover their costs for the container (which, owning a food business, i know can get pricey), it did not raise my awareness, and it kind of pissed me off. i of course did not pay this and the food sadly went to the trash. (i hope they are composting the food and not just wasting it). on top of this, they automatically added a 15% tip, which is a pretty good tip in Mexico. tip in this country is optional and subjective to your experience for a party of 2 - not obligatory. clearly this establishment is clearly profit-driven, masking itself as environmentally conscious. the food was OK. healthy, but to be honest nothing very special. i would suggest skipping this place and spending your money in another of the truly good restaurants in tulum! read more

I'm not gonna lie, the super crunchy, healthy, vegan thing is not my deal, but this food was amazing. Granted, I've been eating like it's my job for a week, but starting the day not hating myself was not the worst thing. I had the huevos scrambled with no-actual-bread toast and avocados with cherry tomatoes and small salad, and my lover had the huevos rancheros. Both were awesome. I could have eaten here every day of my trip. In fact, I ate three meals here in less than a week. I wasn't staying at the hotel, and I'm not a 5 star high end restaurant frequenter. Others have complained of the service, but I had great experiences every time- even befriended one of the waiters who was kind enough to show us some great spots in Tulum Pueblo! This appeared to be any other ocean front restaurant on the long stretch of Tulum beach- but let me tell you, the quality and variety of the food was far superior to anywhere else I ate. This is uber fresh vegan/vegetarian inspired cuisine with a distinctly Mexican twist. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, every meal we ate here was satisfying, filling, and dynamic! We even came here, disgruntled and still hungry after a very disappointing meal at the ultra-hip Jaguar... In all, back at home in the snow and far from the beautiful beach, I dream of meals at the Real Coconut! read more

This place is PERFECT! It was our favorite breakfast spot while in Tulum (we came back multiple times), and if you're a healthy foodie this is your heaven. The view of the beach, as well as the decor of the restaurant itself are just gorgeous - I want my living room to look like this one day. The food was epically delicious -- we tried the cheesy toast (on plantain bread and made with coconut cheese), the coconut yogurt with super seed toppings, the plantain pancakes, the ashwandaga/reishi mushroom hot cacao, and the smoothies, all of which were so good I'm still dreaming about them. The service was also friendly and attentive. We ened up befriending the bartender who gave us a few other excellent recommendations for places to go in Tulum. After the meal they brought us little paleo chocolate chip almond butter cookies which are to DIE FOR! (guys... any chance you'll share the recipe?) *sigh* this place is perfect. This place definitely has potential; a beautiful setting, an obviously thoughtful and delicious menu, but very inconsistent. We dined here several times during our last visit, and while one night was remarkable in all categories (atmosphere, quality of food, menu offerings, service), the next times were severely lacking and left us disappointed. They've been open long enough now to have fine-tuned things, but clearly there are issues. Some of the staff is visibly disengaged and/or not trained... I hope next time (we'll give them one more shot) they will have sorted things out. read more

The Real Coconut is amazing! I ate here EVERY. SINGLE. DAY of my time in Tulum, even though I did not stay in the hotel where the restaurant is located. Health is one of my top values and it is very important to me to eat healthy even while on vacation (especially when I'm living in my bikini!) All of the food is gluten free, sustainable meats, free-range chicken, fresh seafood. You cannot find a restaurant as healthy as this anywhere else in Tulum. I love how conscious the menu is and I tried many things, everything is delicious! My favorites were the guacamole with their homemade coconut flour tortilla chips, the roasted cauliflower (AMAZING), and the salads with chicken (although I often had to ask for extra dressing because they were pretty dry, but the dressings are really good!) The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the service was not consistent. The food is top-notch though and that was worth it to me! Highly recommend and will definitely go back next time I'm in Tulum. Shoutout to the junior manager, Clementine, who is SO sweet and generous and really cares about the quality of the food served there as well as the customers! Truly disappointed as I was really looking forward to coming here for lunch. The food itself was fine (ok, not amazing. My husband ordered a quesadilla that literally came in the form of tacos...) , but the service logistics were terrible. We sat down when it was not crowded around 245pm on a Tuesday, nobody came to offer us the wifi password for over at least ten minutes to open the menu, I ended up having to ask a guest. We ordered three mains, three drinks and one bottle of water. The waiter took our order and repeated the order which I was impressed by. However, our food came, and we just never got our drinks even though a party who sat down after us got theirs. Finally I asked the waiter, and the water came - not one bottle but two, which we did not order. And then two of the three drinks showed up when we were basically finished with our meal, and mine just never came. I asked for it, several people had come asking what I ordered, I told every single one of them what it was. I finally lost it when another person came and ASKED AGAIN what I ordered. At that point there was no point in getting it since we were done eating, so I said I don't want it anymore. No apologies from anybody, and there was an 18% tip added to our bill. read more
