Stopping into Swan Dive Consignment, we were greeted warmly while I looked around and the honey sat next to the shoes. Starting off, the age range is definitely on the 40+ end, but I loved their vintage and resort wear sections. You don't always see a quality vintage section in consignment stores and this one was definitely thoughtfully curated. Taste wise for my resort wear, I tend to look for either specialty Hawaiian brands like Ava Sky/Fighting Eel or midlevel designers like White House Black Market. I did come across a couple summery items that peaked my interest without tags, but of the tags I did see, they were only slightly above what I would consider the norm. All in all, I'd be interested what their non-COVID impacted inventory looks like and I'd likely return if we were in the area again. read more

I consigned 7 items and was told that if any didn't sell, I'd have the chance to pick them up before they'd be donated -- they gave me a date to call and check. When I called on that date, I was told there wer still unsold items and they wanted to keep them a bit longer. They gave me a second date to call back, and on that call I was told to come in and get what hadn't sold. When I arrived, I picked up 2 items and was told 3 had sold, but staff couldn't tell me what happened to the other 2 items, so I asked for a callback. On that call, I learned two of my items had already been donated -- despite what I'd been told earlier. When I asked about the discrepancy, I wasn't trying to make a scene, just get clarity. Instead of acknowledging the mix-up, the staff member defended it as standard policy and cited their volume of consigners. A policy on unsold/undonated items is completely reasonable. But if that's the policy, communicate it clearly upfront -- and if there's a miscommunication, a simple acknowledgment goes a long way. I can't recommend this shop based on how this was handled. read more

I've mostly bought from the store, but recently took things in. Most of it she didn't think she could sell. That's okay. That's what I like about the store. It is thoughtfully curated. I love Swan Dive. I always feel welcome here and have found some fabulous clothes. I have also consigned my clothes which is lovely and gives me more money for new ones. Everything is easy to shop for, the way the clothes are laid out amd there is a 50 percent off rack where I have found some great shirts and pants. They also have lots of great boots for sale and sweaters. It is in the town of Larkspur which is charming and has outdoor restaurants and wine bars. I think the owner Anne has had the shop for the last few years. She is very helpful, gracious and makes sure you are taking care of. read more

Ann will not contact you when one of your items sells. If you want a check, you must contact her first. If life happens and you don't inquire about your items (which is what happened to me) she keeps the money. Contrast Ann's pratices with Good Byes in SF. The send a check when an item sells. If something does not sell, they contact you by mail or email. The amount of money is small. It is her practices. In an email today, "We ask that the consignors contact us to collect funds or retrieve unsold items since we have no way to handle this automatically." from Anne's email to me today. I have consigned many times with others and never have I run across a business that only pays if the consignor asks to be paid. read more

Have given this place MANY tries before posting this. I used to go there almost twice a month - before the new owner took over. I bought often and consigned MANY items there as well. I find the items there to be "slim pickins" and mostly in uber small sizes. Also- the owner has not taken one item from me (same high quality items I used to consign there - many that still have tags on them) the last three times I sent in my husband with clothing. I have then taken them down the street to another consignor who was elated with the items. THAT (Sugar on Magnolia) and What Poppy Wants will now be my GO TO spots - even though they are not as close. No reason is given. She went through 5 bags of items in less than 10 minutes and gave me 20 minutes to get back there or she was already donating it. Wanted to like the place. Oh well. read more

I usually have issues finding dresses and was so happy to leave with several dresses for all kinds of occasions and a complete skirt & sweater & leather jacket outfit that is casual but still sophisticated. Got shoes as well! The ladies were so helpful with styling tips and finding items I might have overlooked. The pricing was fair for the brands and quality. I used to enjoy coming here and found a few great items at good prices. The owner is very nice, however she recently hired a new, younger sales associate who is terribly unpleasant. It got to the point where she was so rude that I will no longer be giving this place any business. It is a shame but there are plenty of stores in the bay area that provide a pleasant and enjoyable experience for their customers. Rude employee made me feel insecure. I was looking through a rack of jeans, when the woman working said, "Excuse me, you're on the size 0-4 side, and the 6-8 side is on the other side of the rack." As a teenage girl who has struggled with her body image for years, that unwarranted comment hit me like a truck. She might as well have said, "excuse me miss, the plus-size section is over there." From a first-time consigner.... I live in Los Angeles and had an item I was interested in selling. A high end designer bag that I purchased from a resale store (no clue if it was real or fake, but fantastic deal). Through text messages and pictures, Gabby was able to confirm that my bag was in fact real and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. She was genuinely excited to help me, and as a first time seller, she gave me tips about shipping to ensure my product would arrive safely. The bag arrived at the store and after a visual confirmation, we had a deal and I was left amazed that the process was so easy. I am no longer interested in being duped & told my clothes are damaged, therefore 'donated' (to them) only to see that my white Donna Karan jersey gown was worn by the store's salesperson for her wedding...!! I hate to post a 1 star, but after a very bad experience, and an unanswered email sent to the shop regarding the bad experience, I feel compelled to do so. I have shopped here for years, not often as it is a bit out of the way, and the prices are always a bit high, and the stock is a quite frumpy, but if I am in the neighborhood I pop in. I did so a few weeks ago. The owner was not in, instead there were two salesgirls who couldn't be bothered to help, let alone acknowledge I was even in the shop. As usual, the clothes are frumpy, and the few "designer" items they have up front are way over-priced compared to other consignment shops, let alone prices on ebay. Anyway, I found a cute suit by a designer I like, it is priced $195, not too bad for what it is. I carry it around the shop, but salesgirls don't offer to start a dressing room, as one's attention is fixed on her newborn baby (bring your baby to work day?) and the other is dressing a mannequin. Mannequin dressing girl is talking very loudly, and is acting like she is auditioning for a reality show. Bizarre behavior in my book. Anyway, helped myself to the dressing room, I try on the jacket and notice a badly done alteration to the sleeves, then I notice the pants were also altered. I bring the suit to the front to view in better light and see darts were let out, the label is half hanging loose, and the waist band was let out, leaving a patch about 3" long, with lines of vertical sewing. Its the kind of patching you see on work-clothes, not a designer suit. Now mannequin girl asks if I want to try it on. I inform her I already did, then I show her the pants. She tells me the damage is probably a "feature", I gasp in horror at the thought that anyone would mistake such a poor alteration as intentional. I ask if there could be a discount as the pants are worthless and the jacket would need a $30 alteration to make the sleeves presentable. Mannequin girl tells me they don't discount designer items!! Well, the owner has discounted designer items for me in the past, and I felt it incredibly rude that this woman didn't even offer to call the owner or the consigner to see. Most consignment shops wouldn't take such a damaged item, much less price it so high, so to have this woman act so smug was very insulting. I left, and the next day I considered writing this all on Yelp with a 2 start rating, but instead I wrote an email to the owner. Eleven days later and I haven't even received an acknowledgement of the email, let alone an apology. There are lots of consignment shops in Marin and San Francisco that have better, more fashionable stock, nice staff, and much lower prices. I am sure I will never give these people my business again. read more

I'm giving this store a two star rating because of how frustrating it has been selling clothes there. First time I brought clothes in all was well. This last time though, it has taken me three tries to go collect my check and I still haven't succeeded! The first failed attempt the owner wasn't there (understandable), the second time was due to the awkward hours (Ah, I'll let it go), but the third time I came during normal business hours and there was a note on the door that said "Closed for Today". How frustrating! The owner could also be a little friendlier! Consigning here was such a hassle I will never do it again. read more

I grew up in Larkspur, so even though I live in Petaluma now I find lots of reasons to come back to town - and this is one of them! I love this little store. They do such a nice job keeping the space clean and the clothes are not too crowded on the racks. The clothes are always really nice, in really good condition, and I literally always find something. It's really hard for me to find clothes that fit me well, and are not too expensive, and when I come to Swan Dive the person working will always help me find the gems in this shop. And I end up the envy of my friends because of the cool pieces I find. Even though I don't usually shop consignment, I love shopping at Swan Dive. read more

Each time we travel from Portland, OR we stop in at Swan Dive. The owner Jeannie and assistant, Gabby are delightful. My daughter found her David Meister dress for prom there last year. She is meticulous when she picks items for the store, will let me know when items come in that would be fitting for me, and she is evening helping me go through my closet to consign or give away items that aren't absolutely flattering and reflective of my style. Because of it's location I have given her several opportunities to sell my nearly new high end shoes and clothing, with very little success. The owner of Swan Dive has done such a good job with her selection of really fashionable, designer cast away's. I love my black Jimmy Choos! She always takes my goods and sells a lot as well. I recommend this place to everyone but I do warn them to only go when the owner is there as her other shop gal ( young, long dark hair) is unpleasant, arrogant, cold and lacking of any sort of charm, warmth or personality. I love consignment shopping and think of it as treasure hunting. I rarely see the inside of Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. because of the abundance of these little treasure troves in Marin. I can find truly unique items at a fraction of their original price and get the personal attention that no longer exists in department stores. SWAN DIVE is my favorite. The new owner, Ann, is a real gem. Very knowledgeable about fashion and helpful without hovering. Great taste. The shop has a very sophisticated look. This store has been transformed! I've walked into Swan Dive several times over the years and ever since the new owner took over it is much more lively and stylish. The clothes are unique and reasonably priced, and I think they repainted and recarpeted because the interior is fresh. I went there yesterday for a dress for a party tomorrow I found the one!! It was only $30 and it's BCBG. I've bought five or six items there within the last year and I plan on going back every time I want new clothes. I'm a consignment digger, and compared to other consignment stores in Marin, Swan Dive is less expensive and has a calmer environment. I prefer it to any other. read more
