The RealReal is a luxury merchandise consignment company. The regular customers tag the company TRR. The TRR app is very highly rated. It appears to me the company has stores in neighborhoods frequented by people with the financial ability to purchase luxury items. There's several in NYC. Just like the many other luxury brands consignment shops in the Upper East Side I browse these days. I like to get an idea of the value of some of the brands I own. I recommend you go in with the items you want to sell and be prepared to wait for assistance if necessary. You may want to consider getting there when the doors open! I'm attached to the very few items I have spent a lot of money buying. I always ask my daughter first before I think of selling or donating my belongings. Typically she says to keep it! I sent my bag at the end of November, but the luxury specialist was really bad at communication. So, I asked them to change my luxury manager when I dropped the bag off, and they said they did. However, the new luxury manager never emailed me, so I don't even know who my luxury manager is. I reached out to customer service, but they told me they don't have the luxury manager's contact in their system. I was told I had to wait for the luxury manager to email me first, but as of today, 1/9/2025, it's been almost two months since I dropped off my bag. My bag still isn't listed for sale, and I have no idea what's going on. I've called and emailed several times for updates, but all they ever say is, "We'll write a note and share this with our team." The next day, I'll get the same response via email: "We will review this issue and get back to you." But no one ever gives me an update. I don't understand how people manage to sell their items on The RealReal. They're so unprofessional, and no one takes responsibility. All they do is pass the problem along to "the team." I even had an offer to sell the bag somewhere else, but The RealReal takes 30 days to return the item. Because of this delay, I lost the offer and wasted a month and a half trying to get updates. Despite all my calls, emails, and texts, my luxury specialist still hasn't reached out to me. Their service is absolutely horrible. I've been using The Real Real (TRR) for years, first the site then the UES store. this review is about the store mostly. - like any store in the ues, this one too caters to this clientele. I was selling personal jewelry and wanted to know what TRR's valuation. I met their jewelry expert after scheduling an appointment over the phone. I choose to meet instead of having all my pieces picked up and later returned after inspected, which I have done before and will speak about at the end. -they pick up in manhattan if you have over 20 pieces. Back to the store, after much research, selling and buying experience as well as speaking to people who work at TRR and that basically Chanel, Hermes and High end Brand jewelry are the only things that could sell at a fair-ish price AND, I knew that with the jewelry brands I had the price would be agreed upon before with them. I had the ring valuation. at the RR, he gave a similar price (about 15% less) Here is what I choose to sell this time, an H.Stern piece at a pre agreed upon price. It sold after about a year. In addition I chose to sell things I was not interested in dealing with and did not care at what price they would sell. They did then come to my house, picked up many things and then returned about 5 items including a tibi suit bought at intermix with tags (they said it was dirty I was annoyed as I know for a fact I try clothes on and I am sure that when/If return said clothes with a deodorant stain IE, they will clean it (I HOPE). and 2 pairs of shoes which they said had flaws. The website is decent but the store selection is catered to the UES customer. I don't mind going in if I have time, but it is not a store I am inclined to go (as a secondhand store I want to get a bargain, or find really cool vintage pieces. THIS. IN NEITHER. As a seller I want it sold at a fair price. I dont believe TRR services well Either (unless you have a Chanel flap, a birkin, ... very desired Brand items or jewelry) Personally I bought one designer item from them and my experience was good. I was pleasantly surprised at the fact they sell/accept some brands that are not known in the US market but are fantastic in their countries. Unfortunately the store doesn't reflect any of that. Been buying and selling with them for quite a while and never had an issue. That was until last week. The way it normally works is that a rep comes to my home, inventories what I have to sell, packs it up and takes it with her. It shows up on their website anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks afterwards. Quite easy and no big deal. I get my check a month or two later. Again, no big deal. The issue is that their reps change frequently. My new rep texted me no less than 10 times when she assumed her new position and insisted that we have a phone call to discuss my needs. Unfortunately, I really don't have time for that. Last week I bought a couple of things that I decided I really didn't want. It was too much of a hassle to return, so I called her figuring that she would be thrilled to hear from me and have the opportunity to pick up some things that I wanted to get rid of. Not so. She demanded to know what exactly I was selling and wanted pictures. If I wanted to take pictures of what I was selling, I would sell them on eBay and make all the money rather than the half that RealReal pays. After about 20 minutes of texting which again, cost me more money in lost income than I would have made selling the items, I told her to forget it. For me, it's all about convenience. If the process becomes tedious I'd rather dump things on eBay or drop them in a donation box. For now, I'm done. read more

I've been shopping with TRR at both their locations in New York City as well as online. I also sell with them and I've been doing business with the real real for 11 years. From the real real, Iv bought dresses, shoes, boots, sneakers, handbags, wallets, coin purses, blazers, jackets, shorts, pants, slacks, dresses, gowns, 4 mink coats & jackets, watches, rings from every designer from Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, JMendel, Ralph, Lauren Black label, Prada, and many others. Quite frankly, I don't understand many of these bad reviews . I think when people buy from a consignment store, whether it's online or in the store, they need to read the item and look at the photos . BEWARE! When an item says good or fair, you're not going to be receiving a brand new item it's going to be visually used. I understand problems with consignment stores roundabout, basically screwed me for everything that I gave them. They're a horrible company and I'm glad one of their stores closed. I'm shocked they're still in business but the real real do try to help their clients. I don't know their employees behavior in the very beginning when they opened, but I know now and for the last several years, they try to make their clients happy . They definitely are a multi million dollar business so I believe that many clients that sell and buy are very happy with their decision . Also, be wary, and think carefully, if an item is not to be returned. I think many times people jump at things without looking at photos, reading, descriptions, or sending real real an email with questions . I love the store. I love the company. I imagined a huge vintage paradise and I could try on fabulous clothes and assess fit without paying for returns/ shipping like I usually do.... No reviews actually reviewed the shop just random one-off experiences selling (but that because this location and I imagine the other ones in Manhattan are really only for intakes- I learned that quickly) In person shopping is vastly over priced and pretty much hideous "white elephant" type of clothing. The Jewelry is nice but I really wanted the vintage shop experience and this is more of just where they take-in and not sell a large quantity. Many people came in with vintage clothes in bags to sell. Seriously it was like 2 -3 racks of pricey Chanel/ (not classic looking more like the trendy one-off pieces) and all priced around 4-14K. Absolute scam of a company. I dropped off my AP Watch at this location and as a thank you for consigning such a high priced item I was issued a $200 credit on my account by a in store manager. This manager told me that the credit will never expire however, he lied! The credit had an expiration date of 2 months and after it expired I reached out to the online customer service representatives and they refuse to believe the face that I was told the credit will have no expiration date so now I lost $200 because the store manager LIED to me.
